Payment Who should pay the paypal fee?

Apr 20, 2011

    1. As a regular Ebay seller I've always been the one paying the paypal fee. So should I stick to this "rule" and tell the seller that he should be responsible for that fee on this forum?

    2. There is a long thread on this somewhere in the forum. Basically, unless something is mentioned in the sales post, paypal fees are the sellers to deal with.

    3. According to paypal's TOS, it's the seller's job to pay the fees.

However, I as a buyer have always offered to pay or split the paypal fees. When I was selling, though I expected to pay the fees, I had buyers offering me to pay the paypal fees on their own accord - which was a gesture I was very grateful for. Realistically, the seller accepting paypal payments is as much a convenience to the buyer as it is to them, if not more, because the buyer can just sit on his/her butt and click "pay" through a credit card instead of having to prance down to the bank and go through the hassles of a wire transfer.

So while you're not expected to cover any fees as a buyer, it's a nice gesture. And if they indicated in the sales post that they charge fees and you decided to go through with the transaction anyways, then sorry, but I'd say your sort of already agreed to pay the fees when you looked at the price and the selling conditions and agreed to buy.

    4. Indeed there is a debate thread (I think) covering this topic. IMO the best thing to do
is include the PP fees in your asking price already. Then nobody gets an unexpected
"surprise".... have I always done that? No. But I do now. Although the international
ones can be trickier. Either way PP gets their money...fear not.

    5. thanks a lot everyone! Now I know what to do if I ever sell something and what to expect in the future :)
I think it's a good idea too to include the paypal fee in the price~
