    1. Okay so was thinking about some sales things last night and this popped into my head.

A friend of mine works at a resturant and wanted to see if her appearance would do anything to how much she was tipped. So she went to work on the first Sat. (their busiest night) and wore no makeup. By the end of the night she didn't make much on tips. The next Sat. she wore just some makeup, tips improved, and the next Sat. she got all dolled up and her tips were even better.

So I thought, wonder if this would work on my sales pictures as well. So this is where you guys come in. Vote which picture you would buy from based on ONLY the photo, not the product itself. Then please let me know your feelings on the subject/ why you chose that picture. Thanks guys!!!!

Thanks for looking/ reading and I can't wait to read all the comments :)

    2. most likely the first one. I like an image that looks more like just a simple shot, rather then one that could potentially be edited. The second one is nice, but i like to see the eyes directly.

    3. The second one is what I prefer to see in a sales thread, but I still think it's the "only a little makeup" version.

Your background is wrinkly, you should iron it. Add even more light, and make the picture bigger. It also depends on what you're selling. If it's the skirt/pants, zoom in on the skirt/pants.

    4. Definately B. It's well lit and has no distracting background or shadows.

    5. Usually for sale thread, I would like to get a nice close up picture of the face.

In my case, none of the picture would appeal to me. All the pictures are a little small for me to see the condition of the doll. So I would not be to tempted to buy it.

It would be nicer if the pictures were larger, in better focus and with better lighting so that you can see the details of the doll better

    6. I think that B would be the best... It has the best white balance and is, therefore, truer to the appropriate color of the item. (Are we looking at the doll or the clothes, I wonder?)

Interesting study in marketing psychology, though. ^.~

    7. Thanks for all the imput everyone.

Image B I intentionally put wrinkles in. That was for more of the "I tried putting a background, but didn't think it through" sort of thing.

Larger pictures would be nice I will agree. I really didn't focus on 1 thing (clothing, doll, face) because I didn't want that to be the focus, I was wanting more background and overall look of the picture. But yes if I was focusing on one thing I would zoom in.

      Anyone else?

    8. Picture A - the colours look cleaner to me and you can see his faceup more clearly. ;)

    9. I like B the most. But it's mostly the skin color (more lively than in a and c), the gesture is cool and the look and the whole head is kind of stronger looking than in the other ones. ^^

      Laoky

    10. I feel the same way.

    11. I'm probably way to paranoid, but I'd have to say A. I agree that B looks the best, but I think that if a sales picture looks too good, or if it's posed in something besides arms straight down, I would be paranoid that it's been shopped or it's posed a certain way to hide something the person doesn't want you to see. I also like the background in the first one because having it near something standard, like a sewing machine, gives me more of a reference for the size. I also think having the warmer tones in the second picture would be an attempt to appeal to the part of people that equates warm colors with warm friendly things they want to have around them. I'd rather get a doll that looks good even in kind of washed out blue lighting, rather than the emotional appeal of the warm tones. However, I'm also kind of paranoid and onto a few of the sales tricks.

    12. A. Putting aside color/contrast and all that. I think it grabs way more detail compared to the three.

But B. Has a less noisy back ground, not as clear, but it's easier on my eyes and I focus more on the product. I like the pose too.

      So B.

    13. Honestly if I'm buying a doll secondhand I've already decided I want that specific sculpt based on other photos. The only time the sales photos would affect my decision was if they were so bad I felt like I couldn't see what the person was selling, and even then if it was a sculpt I wanted at a price I liked I'd probably ask the seller for clearer photos.

For me, quality of photo is much more of a deciding factor with things like clothes or jewelry that are made by DOA users, where I can't really go find other photos of the item. If it looks crappy in the sales thread and the sales thread is the only place I ever see it I'm not going to buy it. With dolls, eyes, and wigs, I generally make up my mind what I want based on a combination of company and gallery photos, and the sales photos are only important so I can see that the seller has the item and that it's as described.

    14. I don't think any of the pictures will help you sell the doll or anything on him/her.

Start by taking pictures in natural day light,
and finding the macro function on your camera.

How ever i suspect you took these pictures with a telephone camera.

      Instead of getting dolled up,
you should put more effort in making pictures.
Put your doll in front of a blank background,
like you did on the last picture..
but put him/her about 10 cm from it so you don't get shadows on the background.
Put this whole set outside or by a big window and put off your flash.
      And your Macro on.
And you Image size to at least 600x800 so people can actually see something.

Take some full body pictures and some close ups.
And then make one of the closeups a sample picture and link the other pictures under it.

Good quality pictures make people trust the quality of what ever your selling more.
So if you are planning on selling anything,
make sure you get good quality pictures.

    15. Hmm, I prefer picture B. Largely because of the light/warmth of the photo, but also because the doll is posed, giving it life. For me, it's easier to see possibilities in it, than in the others.
But in general, as someone pointed out, if I already have my eyes on the sculpt, I perhaps wouldn't care much unless the doll appeared to be damaged etc. However, if I was shopping around and surfing the market place section for interesting stuff, the appeal of the picture would play a larger role - because it would have to sell the item to me, not only show that the item exists and is in a pretty good condition.

    16. B for me--- it's most... hmmm warm, positive? Cool blue-ish tone makes the stuff looking dead.

    17. A. The background is distracting but the representation of the doll is much more telling. The lighting is better (softer, there's less white unbalance) and so I can see more of him. He's not washed out.

    18. i'd say A.
in picture B, the colour of the background is too similar to the doll's colour and is kind of distracting, while the last picture is a little blurry.

    19. I voted for A, because even though the light is not invitingly warm as it is in the B photo, the sheer fact that the doll was in a "real" environment, and I could estimate the size, was the deciding factor. Too often there is so much editing and photoshopping going on, that seeing something real looking is actually a refreshing.

    20. I like B the most.

A looks a little rushed, like you just finished sewing and you wanted to hurry with the picture.

C looks like a mug shot -_-, your doll looks panicky XD

    21. I chose A because B looks as if the color is off and C is too soft focus and doesn't show the feet.

    22. I would buy from Picture B.

Although the doll looks to me, initially, like he's just floating in some pale, crinkly oblivion (lol. It's probably because of my monitor), the lighting is even and the items in question are very much in focus and prominent.

    23. I like the pose and background of A, but the coloring of B. In A and C the doll looks white skin and (I am assuming it is not from B) that could be a bit misleading. again for a sales thread I think multiple pictures are the way to go to get closeups and full body shots.

    24. I like A the most. Somehow it makes me trust you because I know the photo isn't just a random / offical photo. Or something like that, difficult to explain. ^^ ;
But I have to agree that your doll looks better in picture B but I don't like blank background. ^^

    25. Picture B. Its so cute, and the expression is perfect. The background adds more color to the body and the shot is very well centered.

    26. I am with Phanuel, so picture A.

    27. I'd say picture B - it's more professional and the lighting seems nicer, but it's not so professional that I'd suspect a scam. And the doll looks cutest in that shot! I would want a close-up of the face too, though.

    28. I think B looks best. It has the most creative setting and just the right amount of editing. Though I agree they should be higher resolution.

    29. I'm surprised so many people voted for B. Even though the background in A is a little cluttered, it's cleaner and doesn't leave the doll looking washed out, and the light is much better. I think having a photo taken against that wall color would look really nice. The poor thing just kind of blends into the cream/white of the other two backgrounds.

    30. B- The lighting.
      It seems brightest.
      I like that.

    31. I say A, because it has the best color, and the sewing machine in the background gives me a better itea of the size of the doll :)

    32. I would have said A, but the back ground set me off for some reason. So B would be the best choice

    33. A or B i think. C looks slightly off colour.

    34. I asked my husband and he said hes really happy with his Nikon D80 and thought the question should be "if you could just buy one lens, what would it be." He has lens envy and would love several more.

    35. A due to clarity, but I like the simplicity of C; however, C needs better focus. B's need a better view of the face and eyes (windows of the soul of the doll). Just my opinions. Amazing how the color of the resin looks so different in each photo. AnnMarie

    36. I prefer picture A, as picture B on my monitor comes out as a bit fuzzy, and with the background being almost the same nuance as the skin of the doll, it doesn't really "pop". While picture C is more cleancut, it seems a bit washed out, the details do not appear very well, however this could be the result of using too high compression when the file was saved.

While A looked rushed, it still feels more "real" and as others have said the light and composition makes it stand out overall. The doll is on an excursion, and just happens to be caught in the sneaking off act near your sewing machine? ;) For B, the composition feels overdone, like the doll was put there, and almost is pleading for the photo to be over soooon. Because that warm tone combined with the composition does not come off as a good "warm" tone to me. And C, feels a bit rushed since it seems unsharp.

However, based on basic photo idea, picture B has the best idea, showing a full figure doll, on a uniformly coloured background (preferably a contrasting colour that makes the doll "pop" though). Maybe a mix of A and B?

And Naiara makes good points, good quality shots, or just having pictures available in higher resolution makes it feel like one put more effort into the presentation, rather than a click-and-hurry-to-sell.
