Which is better for BJD making Blender or Nomad Sculpt?

Jul 10, 2025

    1. I've used ZBrush before, and I've only used Blender when rendering, but I've never tried Nomad Sculpt.

I want to try something other than Zbrush,
but I'm not sure which one to start with Nomad Sculpt or Blender.

Lately, I've seen a lot of people using Nomad, and it seems simpler than ZBrush.

Between Blender and Nomad, which one would be more suitable for making BJDs?

    2. I’ve used both. I felt like Blender had a bigger learning curve since you need to know a lot of key commands and such, but that being said I enjoyed the actual sculpting process in it when I overcame those hurdles. Nomad sculpt was easier to get the hang of after watching a few tutorials. I feel like you can get started fast in Nomad. I also like being able to sculpt anywhere on the iPad with my Apple Pencil.

Overall I consider both to be good and Nomad has a cheap price compared to Zbrush (I think it was $20-$25? I forget). Then of course Blender is free.

    3. I definitely agree with Tsukiyono. I never fully understood Blender though. I ended up using zBrush for a while but it was Very expensive, and so complicated with features I didn't really need. it was hard to navigate (i know there's a way to set up your canvas to your preference but every time I had it set up it would decide to lose it all. very frustrating).

Nomad sculpt ended up being my preference. The features it has are what I want to use and it was much easier to get the hang of than blender or zbrush. Plus when it's on my iPad i can doodle sculpt on the couch with my cats lol.
