Tools which compressor do i use for which process?

Jun 26, 2011

    1. ok, so, to preface, my grandfather recently passed away, and so now my grandmother is going through the process of cleaning out some of his stuff that she'll never use. she knows that i am very much into art and building things, so she allowed me to take some of the stuff. out of this, i got, among other things, two air compressors that Grandpa had. one is rather small (like, loaf of bread sized), and he used it for pumping up bicycle tires. the other is rather humongous and he used it for filling his car tires. she gave them both to me because she asked if i could use them and i figured that the bicycle one could be for airbrushing (i don't have an airbrush yet, but intend to get one) and the car tire one could be for a pressure pot (again, i don't have one, but will get one when funds allow). however, i figured i should check first. would the smaller one have enough power (assuming it can gert a bicycle tire to at least 50 psi) for an airbrush? would the car tire one (which can pump a tire to at least 450 psi) have too much power for a pressure pot?

Edit: ok, so i opened up the smaller one and the plug is... for a car charger. like, what you plug a cell phone into or something. does anyone know of an adaptor i could get for this, or should i just get a different compressor? the thing is rated for twelve volts of DC power at Twelve amperes (amps).

    2. I think the bigger one would be fine for a pressurepot. Sorry to hear about your grandfathers passing. For the smaller one, you probably don't want to run it at more than 15-20 psi for airbrushing.

    3. ok, thank you. to be honest, i was relieved when he finally passed, because he'd been battling with ALS for about six months. that's not to say i didn't cry like a total wuss.

i will be spending some time familiarizing myself with these machines, to be sure, so thanks for the advice.
