Shopping Where to find the Dollfie Dream sewing books?

Jan 16, 2025

    1. Are there any alternatives to Amazon Japan to finding the Dollfie Dream sewing books?
I tried to order several doll sewing books through Amazon JP, but they rejected my prepaid card, and PayPal is not an option on Amazon JP. I rarely use my debit online because it almost always rejects (my bank is weird), so I didn't try that and would prefer not to. The total cost of 3 books was going to be like $110 and the prepaid was supposed to be my "fun money" so that's an extra reason. Don't like spending my meager savings

I found the one book on both Amazon Canada and USA but the cost is ridiculous, $64 on the USA site or $94 on the Canadian site (before shipping!) for a book that sells elsewhere for on average $15-$20.

No unsold listings on Mercari or Mandarake last I checked either, and not available on Volks USA or Int/JP.

Any book stores that carry it and ship overseas? Used is fine too if there's other used goods stores I've missed.

    2. Have you checked Rakuten? They have ebooks through Kobo Reader, and while you may need a VPN, it is VERY easy to use. I've never used them for physical books but ebook wise, its very easy to order from them. Otherwise may be worth checking ZenMarket or other intermediaries between Japanese shopping sites and US/Canada

    3. Have you tried cd japan? They sell books, and I know some people use them to get the Otome no Sewing books when they come out. I'm not sure how widely available the Dolfie Dream books are in general, but i think they might have a proxy service too. Depending on where you are in the US, you might be able to find them at something like Kinokuniya, if there's one near you. I know there's one in NYC, and i think there's a few others too. Again, I'm not sure if they'd have the Dolfie Dream books specifically though, but could be another place to check if one does happen to be close enough for you to get to.

    4. Several are available through Rakuten at $15-ish. I've purchased books through Buyee from rakuten before without issue!

Yes - cdjapan is good too! But shipping might run higher..? - Book

    5. Is eBay an option? I had a look on there just now and I found a few of the Dollfie Dream sewing books listed there. I like to use Mandarake mainly but I have found some harder to find books and magazines from Japan via eBay over the years ^_^

    6. Dollyteria has books, no idea if there's anything for DD but it wasn't mentioned so far.

    7. I've used mercari through buyee to buy books from japan, from a quick search I was able to find one listing of the maid pattern book. Buyee also has an option to get email notifications when there is a new listing under a specific term, which would be good if you can't find a specific book :thumbup

    8. Thank you for the recs! I don't think an ebook would work for a sewing pattern book because I need to be able to trace the patterns at size, but I'll check around for physical copies

I haven't tried CDJapan, I didn't know they sold books! Thanks for the rec!
I've never heard of Kinokuniya, I live in Canada so I doubt I have access to that one, though.

Which version of Rakuten's website did you find them on? I don't get any results on Rakuten Canada and I don't see any other Rakuten websites show up with google.
For CDJapan, seems like cheapest shipping is airmail at 18$ CAD, which is a bit pricey for one book, but I'm used to high shipping rates at this point...at least it's not 30$ like it is most of the time :sweat

I just looked over on Ebay, but the prices are rather high imo, it seems like 30-40$ USD on average which is 57$-ish dollars for me in CAD unfortunately

I checked Dollyteria, not sure if I was searching correctly but no DD sewing books came up for me

I did check mercari, but unfortunately I'm not looking for the maid one specifically. I'll definitely keep checking it though, since the other books did have some sold out listings, so they might pop up again sometime

    9. The japanese one. Like I said, I've purchased through buyee

    10. Can you use Etsy? I've purchased from pomadour24 in the past for one off copies. They only carry in-print items. Shipping is expensive but about the same from other international sites (just how much it costs unfortunately). They have two of the dollfie books in stock:

    11. With all the current options available, I think it's cheaper for me to use a Japanese website (probably CDJapan at this point most likely), because the price in Yen to CAD is cheaper, even though the shipping is basically the same as on Etsy.

The average price on the Japanese websites seems to be around $20-$25 CAD but the Etsy listing is $33 CAD.

Thanks for the recommendation though, I honestly forgot to check Etsy even though I use it a lot.
