I've wanted to have a doll-scale xmas tree for ages, but I can never seem to find any in-stock trees that are the right size! They're always either way too short, or just normal sized, nothing in between. If we assume the average human-sized xmas tree is 7ft, and I'm looking for a roughly 1/3 scale tree for 60cm dolls, that would end up being about 2.3 ft tall. There's lots of way shorter trees than that, but so far I've only found exactly one 3 foot tree, which might be a bit tall (and it only comes pre-snow-flocked). Something like 2.5 would be ideal, but even 2 feet would be fine. I've tried amazon, but for some reason every single listing is ALWAYS sold out?? I should mention I'm not looking for real wood trees, just artificial! Is this just a totally uncommon size that nobody makes or something?
Try Walmart and Target tiny trees are a thing and I've gotten a few smaller doll sized X-mas trees over the years from both those places.
I have definitely seen small artificial trees of all sorts of smaller sizes at Target. A lot of people get them for their offices and whatnot. If Target isn’t in your country, you can still look at the website to get the maker and model number, then see if anywhere more local has it. Also see if searching by inch height helps at all. 2.3 feet is an obscure height, but you might find something more easily by looking for 28” or 30” tree.
Michael's has some other small trees in store, but if you want a "real" looking tree, probably not. Most of the small ones I've seen have been pink, silver, or white (or some other color)... I checked Wayfair real quick for you, it does look like 2' and 3' are more common, but they may have something for you! Trees at 1:1 often vary in size, also, so you could have some wiggle room there. Bed Bath and Beyond or Kohls might be worth checking, too (I'm assuming from Michael's if you're in North America, apologies if not!).
If you're in the U.S., Hobby Lobby has trees in every possible size you could want. Here is a green 24" tree (also has 18" and 36" options in case your dolls want some variety). They do also have tiny ornaments if you want to decorate it.
I'm in Canada so Target and Hobby Lobby aren't available here as far as I'm aware. Does Hobby Lobby ship to Canada at all? That 2ft tree looks nice and I don't mind a somewhat shorter tree, it seems like it would be similar to a full-size 4 or 5 ft tree in scale which is what I usually have for myself anyway. I've never really seen anything bigger than a very small desk tree when at places like Walmart but I could definitely look again this year. Guess I'll have to bring a measuring tape with me this time. I don't know if we have Kohls here but I'll definitely check Wayfair and Bed Bath and Beyond! Didn't even think to check those places honestly.
I sometimes buy a live small tree in a pot of an appropriate size for my dolls - usually at a flower shop. It's not every year that you manage to find the right size tree. Like this: Léon's Xmas tree III - the angel of the east window by Arengil Tajedinápravá, on Flickr
I second @Arengil’s suggestion, if you have a garden or balcony that is to keep the tree outside when not in use. There are many dwarf conifer species you can get at garden centres but traditional pine or fir looking ones can be expensive. If you’re very green-fingered you could also ‘rescue’ a seedling or very young sapling growing somewhere it shouldn’t or somewhere you know it’s just going to get damaged or trod on. Could make a nice little story out of that! Garden centres quite often have loads of Crimbo decorations at this time of year as well so you may find a nice artificial one. Remember that some artificial trees, especially tall ones come in parts that you put together at home so you could just use the top part for your dolls if it’s a suitable size. Craft stores are another option as they may well have some undecorated mini artificial trees. I’m not mentioning any store names as I’m in the UK and I’m not a huge internet shopper so don’t have anything to offer there I’m afraid.
I know Ikea has there Christmas out. Through Ikea is only in certain places but I've seen small trees.
Do they get any taller than that one? I don't think I'd consider that correctly scaled since most xmas trees are somewhere between 5-7ft and in my mind should be at least a little taller than the doll, assuming the doll represents an average-ish height like 5'6" or 5'8". Especially in my case, my dolls are supposed to be short, so the tree being shorter than them would look odd imo. I'm wary of real trees because I detest bugs, I don't like bringing real plants into my apartment. I'm not really familiar with tree care, but my apartment gets basically no light (windows are small and high up) so I don't know if it would live very long. I also like the long-term-ness of an artificial tree, I can pack it up and store it when not in use and take it out when christmas is close to use it for pictures and decoration. I feel like with a real tree I'd either need to care for it year round or buy a new one every year? I'm also pretty bad with plants. I've never had a plant I bought in the past live longer than 5 days We have a few IKEAs around here! I didn't know they sold xmas trees but it makes sense that they do. I'll try browsing their site and see if there's anything in the right size.
That’s totally understandable and yes it sounds like conditions at your apartment are less than ideal. I don’t even know if it’d be possible or practical to try and make one using the garlands that are designed to look like conifer. It’d probably be quite finicky and messy to do but it’d be made to your specifications. I wish you the best of luck in your search and hope you find what you’re looking for.
@ashefaust There certainly are, but it's not easy to find an appropriate tree. I don't know how it is in your country. I'm describing the situation in the Czechia. I hope you get lucky with your xmas tree.
I'm not sure where they sell real trees here, I think I'd have to drive out to a farm maybe. I guess technically a tree could really be any size, so maybe the perfect one is out there. I actually did get one from the dollar store before for some smaller off-topic dolls, but they only had 15-20cm trees. I don't think I have the skills to stick a bunch of them together, and it would probably lack the wide bottom narrow top shape.
A farm can be a good option. Sometimes you can buy a small tree and gradually grow it into a larger one. Just please remember not to move a live tree from a cold environment to a warm one all at once. It needs to gradually acclimatize to the higher indoor temperature.
I am seeing a couple 2.5 foot trees on online only listings. So far at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Amazon, Wayfair, and Target. I did a search for that particular height, but the words "pathway", "desktop", and "apartment" might also turn up something in your size range. A lot of trees that size come with a pot of some kind at the bottom for stability and to hide the battery pack for the lights. Finding one without a pot can be tricky.
If you wanted a live tree that will change over time try a bonsai. A good bonsai will be content in a small pot and depending on the species may not need a lot of maintenance other than watering and occasional pruning. I kept a bonsai Christmas tree for many years bringing it inside as a table decoration only for Christmas. Alternatively you could try making your own artificial tree using the techniques from the craft/modeling community. There are a lot of materials out there that can be used to get different tree looks.
