Where do your dolls live? Do you have dioramas, or do they sit on a shelf, in a box, on the bed? Show us their dwellings!!! Bonus: Tell me about the world of their characters, if applicable!!
My doll currently lives in his box, which is tucked up right beside my bed. He'll probably be there for a bit. :/ I have a display shelf in mind I'd like to get that I'll put him in, but I have to get rid of my old digital piano first, which is proving a more difficult undertaking than expected....? His character lives in a floating mountain chain called the Kongrong Mountains. It's home to quite a number of immortals, called sennin, and he's lived there all his life. Makes you get used to heights, haha!
My dolls currently are in their shipping boxes unless they're being photographed. I do have plans to put them in display boxes but progress is slow. Right now I'm building a diorama of their studio apartment in New York City where one is a dancer and the other works security in an illegal gambling club in Brooklyn.
My crew hangs out on my desk right now~ I'm gonna have to find a new place soon though, 'cause my desk is pretty much overtaken and I'm gonna need it for work. I'd love to make a bedroom diorama for Aelic (KDF Darae), but I don't think I'd have room for it...a smaller diorama for Tenshitenshi (Pipos Cheshire who isn't home yet) and Tadpole (soon-to-be Littlefee Pongpong V.2) is probably gonna be my next diorama project. Terrible photo incoming! I have a doll room... so far everyone is just on a shelf... until I can build the actual house in the room >_<
Mine are displayed on a table in my bedroom. It's about filled up, so I might have to find another. Or maybe I will just make everyone more comfy and sit closer together. I'm hoping this will limit the number of dolls in my collection....
Generally speaking, mine live in my home office. They've got their own furniture in there, and I do try to keep them confined to the one room, for organizational purposes. There are quite a few of them in the living room right now, though, because I do tend to play with them and sometimes it takes a few days for them to make their way back upstairs. As for the worlds of the characters, they come from several different storylines, most of which are alternates to the "real world" but with either SF or fantasy elements. In one of my storylines, aliens exist. In another, demons, angels and ghosts exist. In a third, sprites and magic exist.
They've taken over two shelves. One is for my tinies and their dollhouses, the other is for my MSD's and Yo-SD's. It also suits as my main photography backdrop for them and can hold some furniture but not much.. Which is both a blessing and a curse. I can find stuff that fits JUUUUST right... But then it's too big for that shelf. I'm sure it's a blessing in disguise though I would like to make some collapsable furniture that I could use in other settings and just tuck away like my benches. This is an old pic (last year's possible the year before's) fourth of july picture, it shows just how much room they actually have. It's not a whole ton but I can still fit a lot of props, move the furniture around and even put a Christmas tree up.
Delta lives on my computer desk with my off-topic dolls and figures, but for the moment Niko, Ras, and my as-of-yet unnamed angel character's floating head have staked out a cubby in the living room bookshelf. It's the perfect height for Niko to stand, however it's so deep any pics have to be brightened beyond all reason, ha. There's no room in this apartment for a full diorama, but I'd like to at least find a chair for Ras, and maybe a small table to put the tea set on. Their non-bookshelf world is an archipelago of islands that are still using whale oil and magic like a bunch of bumpkins while this hot new thing called electricity is taking off on the mainland. They've been using geothermal for heating homes and water, but generators have yet to gain acceptance. Ras thinks calling on the names of dead gods is a much more reliable power source, and all this copper wire nonsense is just a fad. Niko thinks it's neat, but knows better than to get into the subject.
My dolls occupy the top of my chest of drawers. I've finally gotten a scale chair for my MSD, and I've got a make shift table and set of shelves for them as well as a bunch of small chests, so I've set it up as a sort-of room so that I can display them. They're from the Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder worlds so they have bunches of dice and character sheets sitting around them too.
My big BJDs currently chill on my desk and occasionally get put on a bookshelf with my other, smaller dolls I have no photos since I move everything about too much though. It's really interesting reading through and seeing where everyone keeps theirs. I'd really like to get some furniture for mine when I can afford it, hopefully when I'm done with current projects I'll be able to. Great stuff everyone!
My full dolls live on my dresser where they judge my outfit choices for the day. No photos because my dresser is actually kind of messy at the moment (not the area they live on though) and it's evening here so the lighting wouldn't be very good anyways. I have two heads tucked away in my closet waiting for the bodies that will never come (or at least not anytime soon).
My dolls live on armchairs, shelves, top of the wardrobe,on the desk and so on xD we like to move them a lot with my friend x3
I have a shelf above my couch where my dollies dwell. I'm hoping to find a better place for them soon, but that will probably require a lot of cleaning and re-organizing.
They are currently sitting on the self on top of my worktable. I have secret wish I'll some day will be able to make them a cool bar/tavern diorama where they can stay nicely and safely.
My children sit up on my shelf for now, in the summer they'll all go into their carrying cases and bags and put stored for a while. Annabelle lives in her giant house in the forest with AJ and Emily, her lil kids. Dorian lives in the ocean, everyone else lives in the neighborhood though, fairly normal houses.
My gang lives in a glass and metal IKEA shelving unit. Here's the two "floors". Where We Live Everybody but the first- Their story is set in modern America, but with magic, elves, fairies, and sprites.
My crew have a shelf right now. One day I want to give them a room with room boxes for them. At the moment my MSDs are in 4 different storylines, so of course they don't all interact with each other. Though most of them take place either in Canada or NY, they mostly have common houses. The room box I'm looking forward to making the most is Braesin's flower shop. It's supposed to be cute and cobble stone themed with lots of little plants and flowers.
I only have one doll right now, but she lives wherever i can find a safe spot for her. Sometimes on my nightstand, sometimes on the couch. I dont keep her on her stand very often, but she does stay there if im working on something for her. I just keep her wherever i can thats close to me throughout the day.
Well, some of mine inhabit a large wardrobe in my room. I also have a set of adjustable multi-shelved displays set right next to each other as additional space for them. It's still a work in-progress, as I'm planning to eventually make it look like a living room or similar (with wallpaper or the like when I can get the arrangement all figured out). A couple also have their own space on my bed's headboard, along with some of my favorite Pullip/Taeyangs.
All of mine live in a china cabinet. The plan is to have each of the 4 shelves be a diorama. I'm still decided what ones I am going to do.
https://i.imgur.com/Wje87O9.jpg Here's a link to a picture I took just this morning of my collection. For some reason, using the insert image button isn't working...the image shows a red x.
I had the same thing happen when I tried to put up the composite image for a string of photos in a photostory. I wonder if the DoA has changed allowed images sizes. But that's a great crew you've got!
My dolls usually live on my computer desk or the shelf above my computer. I like to have them near me so that I can play with them.
Dioramas are waiting on my moving to slightly more spacious digs with more shelves... but I'm looking forward to it! Vince's only home is my room, but once I have some 'sets' up I'm sure he'll move around, and I'd like to get Pete and Billy a very simple little 'room' with a bunk bed-- their space will probably literally just be the bunk bed and some minimal decoration around that on the shelf. Marigold needs her 'hobbit hole' kitchen, and Party Martian and my various off-topic animals will spend a lot of time with her-- when I get around to buying her siblings, I'll also want to build their homes-- rather, I'll probably make one room each and they'll sort of be smashed together into one home, but as for what her 'world' is like and what I'll be going for, Marigold and company are seasonal forest spirits-- she's the spirit of autumn, and many of her hobbies revolve around the kitchen. She thinks of the other seasons as her brothers and sister but they're not really related-- two of them are going to be in a relationship and she won't see that as strange, it's just that that's the relationship she has with all of the others. They live in a world of talking animals and fairies and magic, which means that any odd fantasy dolls really fit in as a part of her whole story, especially those that fit with roughly a 1/6 scale. Jack and the FID-heavy crew to come... Well, Jack's already got the velvet upholstered settee that will feature prominently in his library roombox. His world is D&D-ish, and so the dolls I get in future who are in scale with him are going to live in that world... but I'm really looking forward to making some flexible sets and using the same group as my 'cast' to tell stories in different universes. Jack needs his library, but I'd also like to make a castle/dungeon backdrop that I can change out furniture/set pieces in to be different indoor spaces in that world, and a forest diorama for outdoor adventuring. His first friend is on the way now, but as I am trying to prepare to move, I won't be building them a set right away, I'll just work out something temporary for early photo taking.
I really want to see other's people displays for their dolls! Do you display them in cabinets? In daily situations? Do they have their own room ? Share your dollies living condition Mine are just standing on my desk sadly, I really want to get a glass cabinet for them but I'm out of furniture space
