Where does Dollzone negative reputation come from?

Jan 22, 2009

    1. I'd like to buy a Dollzone Megi soon.. and as I'm doing more and more research I'm finding that the company has sort of a negative reputation. I was just wondering, why is this? Is it something to do with the quality of the dolls or something else? I just don't want to buy a doll (even one with a sculpt I love as much as this one) to find it has poor resin quality or something like that.
      Thanks in advance :D

    2. it might help if you say what concerns you have, what is it that you are worried about?

    3. That's the thing actually- I'm not sure. :sweat
I just have seen a few people mention a negative opinion they have of the company, for one reason or another. I just want to know what the reason is, in case it has something to do with buying a doll with many issues or something... sorry if that's really vague. *_*

    4. hmmm, i can't help you there. i know that there are many happy DZ doll owners, maybe it is the old " they don't cost as much" thing? i have had a few of their heads, and as far as i can tell they are as good as any other dolls i have, as a matter of fact, i am waiting for a head right now.

    5. Some people's negativity stems from something that happened when DollZone was a fledgling company. If I'm remembering correctly, DZ directly copied some doll molds. That was a while ago, and they are now totally making every one of the molds themselves.

Others have brought up that the price dictates the quality of the doll. While DZ's resin isn't as hefty as say, LUTS, it is in no way lesser quality.

It really comes down to you. I love some of DZ's molds, and I would gladly buy one if I had the chance. I've seen some beautiful dolls here from DZ. I think you'd do yourself right by getting the one you love. ^--^

      I hope this helped.

    6. Both of you have been very helpful! Thanks to both >w<
I think I will go ahead and go for a Megi.
      Once again, thanks!

    7. You're welcome! I'm sure you'll love her, Megi is such a pretty mold.

    8. Yes, there was ONE doll mold that was copied. That one was banned from DoA and rightly so.

Dollzone's current lineup is of lovely quality (I have a bunch!). Lots of people aren't fond of their quirky faces, but that's a matter of personal preference, really. I think they're a fine value. There are LOTS of highly reputable dealerships that carry them, as well, which is a plus.

Oh. and my Megis are both boys. They work really well in either gender :)

    9. Well thank you!
It's good to know the reason isn't related to quality. I love their faces @w@.

    10. I like Dollzone faces too. I perfer a little more maturity in my Minis, and Dollzone offers that. I could buy about 75% of their molds (without seeing the price) *but* their dolls certainly aren't the least inexpensive anymore. I could get a Custom House doll or a Luts cheaper, if I go for double jointed. The non double jointed body is only slight less than a CH.

Another issue is that they didn't have good product photos, which a lot of the newer companies suffer from this issue. If you look older photos that I've seen, they don't look as good as the ones now =3 It also takes time to develop a following. Which I think DZ is finally doing now that they're not the newest kid on the block ;)

    11. YES DO!!! We need more Megis in the world!

As Tsuki56, Zion, me and a host of others will tell you they are adorable flirty boys, who will take over your camera AND your wallet!

    12. Anoniemouse: (adorable name btw) Yeah, I noticed that companies like Resinsoul don't have pictures that do their sculpts much justice.

Toshirodragon: I believe it! xD He'll probably be a boyfriend for my bory (Juliette), if they end up getting along, hehehee.

    13. They should... Megis seem to cabbage onto everything cute around them! I just bought an AoD and the two boys are inseparable.

Dz dolls are the same height as Aod but sturdier looking and feeling, thinner thighs tho:lol: But I think Nicco's (Megi) droopy eyes are far more expressive than Tam's (AoD). So yeah, I wouldn't let past trouble cloud your decision to get a Megi, they really are very sweet dolls.

    14. My first doll was a Mo ( I recently sold him to a friend who also has a newer Mo) and I just got a Sleeping Xi at the end of this past year. Another friend has a Megi.

The resin on these dolls is very durable and smooth and their seams are sanded. They also pose well and can stand for extended periods of time (though I wouldn't leave them alone lol). Overall, I think the quality is very nice for the price and the face ups have improved immensely. I haven't seen the new bodies yet so I can't comment on them.

I think the only real complaints I've had is that the lower half of their legs tend to twist around and my friend's Megi's head often tilts back a bit (as if there's too much tension) yet he's strung fairly loosely. My Xi does it sometimes but not nearly as often, so it may just be a fluke. It's not terribly bothersome though and I think it's cute when my boy does that ;)

The past negativity about the company seems to have dissipated as time has gone on and as far as I know, the sculptor who made the copied head has not been with the company since the incident. I too had the worry about negativity and posted on the forum; I got plenty of supportive replies about the dolls and their quality :)

I think if Megi's the one you've fallen in love with, definately go for it! I assure you, you won't be dissappointed :)

    15. I think dollzone has gotten a lot of negativity first from the issue when they copied, but they came back from that and did things right. Secondly there's still negativity about them being "cheaper dolls" from some people who are usually elitists, but as of now their dolls are evenly priced with Luts, so it seems a lot of that negativity is slowly going away.

DZ IMHO is the BEST quality resin I own and I own dolls from several different companies which also happen to include Volks and Luts

    16. I have a Mo, and he's awesome. When I first got him I had trouble posing him, but a hot-glue sueding (super easy to do, and you probably don't even have to unstring to do it) solved the problem totally. Gorgeous faceup, smooth resin with no seams at all, stands like a rock. I would totally buy another Dollzone - Hid is on my wishlist, actually.

    17. I'd just like to add on too that the Megi has a personality right out of the box. Its an extremely expressive mold. I fell in love with it before I purchased my own Megi now named Adonis. He stood right out of the box and seemed to have a bit of a smirk going. Its not to say Megi's can only smirk though they're known for it, a different face-up can create a different look. And his droopy eyes are really good for a sad little face, like mine has been painted to by the lovely Buff.

The only problem I had was he was strung a bit too tightly but over time that worked itself out on his own. And like someone above said the resin is very smooth and beautiful. Its quite tough too. My boy has the tendency to flop back when I turn my head away and has many times bumped into the wall but we have no cracks yet -knocks on wood-

    18. I love my Dollzones ^_^ the resin quality is great

    19. I have a Megi and I adore him so much~

They have alot of versatility and personality~ :D

Me and Silvermasques have 3 Megis total~ Here's a few pictures to show what I mean! :D Constantine is mine and Miguel and Christian belong to Silvermasques.

    20. Oh yes, I own a Megi as well and they're such lovely boys! Mine took me a while to get used to, but once I got him all faceup'd and dressed properly, he's really grown on me, and I love his little smirk.

The main issue I had with the poor boy was that I didn't like his faceup (MEGI2), and until I wiped it and taught myself how to do faceups, I almost even hated him.. but now that he's painted the way I like him (with room for improvement, of course), I love him dearly.

I haven't noticed any problems in his resin quality, and the only real problem I've had with him is that he came very loosely strung, and his leg joints like to flip around on me when I'm dressing him sometimes.

    21. The same with my Wilka-- I paid for company face-up, but wiped it off after two weeks. The face-up was orange and not very interesting-- Wilka has some really great lips, but no lines, no gloss... boring. I was trying to learn doing face-ups too and my boy was oh so gross... My story doesn't end as nice as Sonja's, though. I decied to sell my Wilka^^; The face-up (or the lack of it) isn't the issue, though. As for the rest... I recommend DollZone. Their dolls are nice quality for the price:)

    22. I have a DZ Yi boy. My own dolls are a bit of a mishmash of prices but I still like my DZ boy and would recommend them.

    23. Yeah the company face-ups are pretty eh... questionable. I didn't like it at all when I got him since mine was part of the full set he came with it. I found it very plain and boring, there were no details to the lips etc. Which was really unfortunate considering Megi has some beautiful lips.

Here's a picture of mine to show what I was talking about before with expression. People who've seen him in person weren't even sure he was a Megi xD

    24. Mine is pretty floppy too... tighting his stringing will be a project soon! I'm also growing tired of his yellow in some lights face up... most likely I will wipe him and try it myself when I get some better lighting! hehehe

      Mine is a born flirt!

I kid you not.. this is his favorite pose!

    25. Two of my DZ girls have the company face-up, and it my case it's quite delicate and lovely (Orlando and LinLan). Two of them I did myself (Cherry and a Mo-girl). It may just depend on who is doing the face-up that day.

But the dolls themselves are wonderful, quite different from other companies and very distinct in style.

    26. Thanks for all the feedback! You guys are uber-helpful.
