Casting Where do you buy your casting materials?

Mar 16, 2006

    1. I hope this isn't OT but. . .
I want to try casting the next version of my little stump girl but I can't seem to find anything to cast her with. I know I should probably use some kind of Silicon for the mold then find the resin but I can't seem to find either!

Any ideas of where to find casting materials would be great and I'd LOVE any brand recomendations or anything else you think might help~!

      Thank you!

    2. Where do you live? Is there a Hobby Lobby you know of? I was browsing our local Hobby Lobby, and I saw - behind glass with the expensive Prismacolors, paints, rotary tools, etc - a $70 casting kit by Alumilite. Its small, but I want to cast and mold my small Barbie-sized doll, so it might do for me! One might actually have to buy several kits to properly mold an entire doll of any size.

    3. smooth-on.com has a starter kit for $25 that includes a pint of silicone and a pint of casting resin, plus instructions and sealer. :3 I think it's called a super sampler. Speaking of which I should check my molds. XB

    4. thank you! I don't have a Hobby Lobby near me but I'll definatly check out Smooth-on.com ^_^

    5. If you're in Australia, check out www.barnesonline.com.au. They supply casting supplies to the Films & Arts industry and also to hobbyists.

    6. is http://www.craftsetc.com/ any good? i don't have a Hobby Lobby near me, unfortunately, but the Hobby Lobby site links to Crafts, Etc and says a lot of its products are sold there. has anyone used this site before?

    7. Crafts ETC is owned by Hobby Lobby. When you go into a Hobby Lobby to look for casting materials, you'll find allumilite products. *praticaly lives at her local Hobby Lobby*

    8. Dick Blick is good too (http://www.dickblick.com/) and REALLY cheap. I compared prices on a few things I was looking to buy on Dick Blick and some other places (for instance, the aforementioned Crafts Etc) and Dick Blick was wayyy cheaper.
