Basically the title Maybe there's a list out there, but if not, I'm going to have to start compiling my own list of monster man dolls that fit in the 60-65cm range. Mostly this started when I discovered I.O.S. and their glorious skull heads, but then I saw the new Ringdoll Frankenstein, and was horribly disappointed that he's 76cm and would look insane next to my 60cm girl. But basically, I'm looking for monster men. Men with skull heads, with snake bodies, with zombie/robot parts, exposed brains, tentacles, you name it! So far on my wishlist, I've got the I.O.S. skull boys, Dolly Planet Ex Machina Broken (is it Dolly Planet, or YuYu Studio? I'm unclear on that), and possibly the 71cm Skeleton, though he's breaking the size rule a little, as well as Miracle Doll Snake Demon. If anyone has more cryptid/monster suggestions that are at least sub-71cm, pleeeease let me know!
I know you were put off by the 76cm vs 60cm aspect, but that height difference reminds me of Belle and the Beast. Have you heard of Bloodwood? They've got mostly heads with lots of teeth in places where teeth shouldn't be, but they also have an eagle head if you want a more birdy-kind of monster. The necks are 10cm and scaled to fit in the 68-70cm range, so depending on the size of the head you could probably make it work for a 65cm body, too.
I have a 75 and a 62cm as a couple and it's a very cute height difference to me, especially if you display them sitting the height difference is less obvious. I also have a 60cm I'm pairing with a 75cm for that sweet sweet height difference as well. Fantasy SD men are tricky tbh, I know soom super gems have lots of fantasy parts but they're hard to come by and they pose rather poorly so many people do mods so they fit a different body.
Considering what Frankenstein's Monster was actually composed of, I think the height difference is actually somewhat appropriate? But if that's not what you're going for with your monster men, that's perfectly fair too. Granado's Merman is an option at 66.5 with very beautiful clawed hands, and Miracle Doll Lestat (65cm) is definitely one to keep in mind if you can find him. Island Doll Cheetah would make a very good Ogre, though would likely require a body swap to really lean into his monstrous side. He does have a very cute smirk though! And though they break your rule at 72 each, De Ath and Steward from Universe Doll are extremely nice to look at monster boys.
Ex Machina is by Dlace / YuYu Studio. He collaborates a lot which is why you sometimes see dolls from Dollzone etc. in the same style. Peakwoods has tons of vampires/jiangshi and other critters in the SD range. I think the boys are 62cm. I like that their monster dolls have beastly claws.
Mara Creatures Ramunder is 60cm I believe - it seems like their website isn't working but you can see some info and pics here.
Thank you SO much everyone, I've definitely added to my list from all these! I've never heard of them before but I'm thinking the Meal God head is a major candidate for me! Thank you for linking that, I don't think I would've found it on my own for a loooong time. I also agree about the height aspect working for Beauty and the Beast, which is sort of the theme I'm going for with my dolls, I'm just afraid of proportions Honestly this makes me feel better about it, if other people have this difference and it turns out cute! Granted, I did my initial measuring with a tape measure next to my SD girl and was like wow, oh no...but that doesn't really account for them looking proportional, I know. So maybe going up to 75cm will open the door to more sculpts without looking silly. Oh, I forgot to add Ramunder to the list! Someone has a project journal in here of him and I'm absolutely fascinated by it!
True! Honestly the only thing holding me back from one-clicking Frankenstein now is that he doesn't come with the clear headcap that shows his skull that's shown in the promo pics if that was included he'd be a no-brainer and I'd worry about proportions later. But I do love the Granado merman, he could make a gorgeous monster-man siren! I did see the Mr. Loong and I'm still eyeballing him hard! They're a little more anthro than my initial interest but I do love the dragon heads! Okay that makes more sense! I looked up Dlace and found them listed under there, so I'll have to keep an eye on their preorder pages. I'd legit sell a kidney for the broken statue version of the Ex Machina. I'll have to check Peakwoods too! Again thank you everyone, I'm really glad y'all chimed in about the size differences being cute more than out of place, I'm going to have to check more of the bigger guys (who might be easier to dress, tbh, it seems all nice suit sets are designed for the 75cm bodies). Still gonna debate the heck out of Frankenstein though, even if he doesn't have the clear headcap, I'm still obsessed with his robo-zombie body.
Height comparison!! by Indifferent Red, on Flickr Here is a height comparison between my 75cm boy (red hair) and a 60cm girl (pink hair) and a 48cm girl that someone else wanted to compare him to. IMO, the 75/60 is a doable height difference without looking weird.
Ooh thank you so much for posting this! I was afraid it would look like the 48cm vs the 75, which is a little too drastic for my plans, but with the 60 reaching about shoulder-height, it's definitely not quite as off as I thought it would look when I was checking via tape measure! Now I get to add 75cms into the wishlist, much appreciated!
I just went to go look at peakswood and put them on my "in the future" list. Its not dissimilar to the jointed claw hands from annother secret
