Just For Fun What was the most basic prop you've ever used in a photo with your doll(s)?

Aug 14, 2018

    1. We've used a lot of basic things in our hobby... How about the most basic thing you've used in a photo with your dolls? I'm sure everything including the kitchen sink has probably made an appearance at some point. Photos not necessary. It's all just for fun!!! :kitty1

What is the most basic prop you've ever used in a photo with your doll(s)?
(post a photo if you wish)

    2. The list of mundane things is too long really, but in my older photo stories people always got very excited about my electrical outlets as wall art. So I'll go with that.

    3. A leaf...

(Although that's not actually *my* doll's hand... That was Nezumitoo's Fuan.)

      Or maybe grass...

    4. Wire. It’s (ideally) never seen but it literally props things up. Seen - paper for a backdrop.

    5. A white bedsheet to double as both, a well a bedsheet (to hide that a doll box was in fact a doll box), and a backdrop. To be fair it was a terrible attempt to replicate a Bowie photoshoot that used pretty much the same trick, just with a much much larger sheet.

    6. Food shaped erasers! They used to be everywhere, and I thought maybe they weren’t a “thing” anymore, but then I found a whole sack of them at the dollar store so of course I bought it :) can’t ever run out of food erasers.

    7. Once I used a potted plant for a tree, I used a rock, ... and another time, a snowball =^.^=
Those are the most basic ones I used for "un-planned and un-prepared" photoshoots ;)

    10. A flower. I usually get some around valentine's and my birthday from my husband. Of course I immediately seek out the smaller ones to use as doll props. =P

    11. Colored poster board. It costs around $1 each, and makes a smooth, clean backdrop for when you don't feel like cleaning your whole house and setting up a full display to take a fast picture!

    12. An smallish hand towel makes a great bath towel for an SD

    13. Bed. The sheets make a nice neutral background without being boring, I think.

    14. A piece of faux fur I had laying around for a plushy looking bed or rug of sorts, works great for closeups too! :3

    15. I've used all kinds of random stuff for backdrops- bedsheets, paper, cardboard, random cloth scraps, various walls, windows, etc. But to me, a prop is an object that is more... interactional? Like the doll is holding it or posed with it or sitting on it. So I guess my most "basic" prop usage would be the time I took a picture of Cooper holding a nasty chunk of rusty metal I picked up off the ground.

    17. I'd say moss and clover are pretty basic.

    18. A decrepit cement wall as a backdrop. Good for a doll stand too.

    19. Dirty old windowsill and couch. Lol.

    20. A shoebox!

    21. The contents of my spare cloth cabinet and sometimes, even my sewing kit, have been used as makeshift props and backgrounds. In this old photo of Adhara, she's sitting on my remaining bolt of white cloth (smoothed out with some Photoshop magic) and holding the threaded needle for attaching lace to the hem of her dress.

    24. I routinely use an old drawing board as either a backdrop or floor in my indoor photos. It's basically just a big square of fiber board. In my outdoor photos, I'm a fan of our local boulder population.

    25. Fake roses and orchids. Look surprisingly beautiful if you take the right shot.

    28. A small stuffed teddy bear. Just let the doll hold it and it's instantly cute. ^_^

    31. I’ve used my window curtain as a backdrop, my hallway for long shots, and I’ve used a small umbrella as a prop with one of my dolls.

    32. Lots of creative use of things here!

Early on (this is one of my first photoshoots with my first bjd in 2004), I did the very lazy "grab something to put in the background" thing--grabbing a nearby throw blanket! And did the basic, "grab a small plushie" for him to hold... These were NOT great options!!! :doh (I've done similar things in subsequent photos, but just done a tad better!) (overexposed his white skin, too! agh!) :sweat

    33. We have a white Ikea table that makes a great solid backdrop.
Leaves are always fun, especially with tinies.

My mag-handed Fairyland kids tend to hold sewing needles and pins for me while I'm crafting.
