What was the first doll you wanted to buy? Did you get them? If you got them do you still have them? If you didn't get it would you buy it now given the chance? The first doll I ever want to buy was dollndoll Bonny. She has such a cute face! I never did get her but if I came across her secondhand and I had the money I would totally buy her!
The first doll I wanted to buy was a LUTS Senior Delf Kara. I definitely wouldn't buy her now. My tastes have changed since entering the hobby and I'm happy that I did more research before I got her. I think she is a lovely sculpt just no longer my cuppa tea
The very first doll I wanted was a Boy and Girl Freya. I barely knew ANYTHING about the hobby when I stumbled across her. I saw a Mint On Card ad on Facebook and was like "What are this?" I found her because I was hoping the clearance dolls would be cheaper. (I was a newbie suffering from price-tag shock! Lol!) Later, when I finally did decide to get a doll, I consider getting her, but didn't. Just a little too pricey for my taste. And would I get her? I don't know. I'm cant' decide if I love her face anymore. I'm sure, though, if I found her for the right price at the right time, I would deeply consider buying her. I will say that her company picture inspired my future doll choices. I feel in love with yellow resin and red wine wigs!
Mine was an AoD Gu - I'd been looking at a few sculpts online and knew that I wanted a doll, and a 60cm doll at that, but wasn't sure which one. Then I saw a friend's doll at a meetup, asked what scuplt it was, was relieved that he wasn't expensive, and bought my own the minute I got home I still have him (as of 2014, and I bought him in 2007, so he's unlikely to be going anywhere), and I'm pretty sure I'd buy the same sculpt again, or at least one that's similar; He fits well with the rest of my collection. I think now though, I'd have bought him secondhand if I could - All of my dolls apart from him were either from DoA Marketplace or Closet Child.
The first doll I wanted to buy was the first one I did buy, a Bobobie Sprite on a male body. I'd seen plenty of dolls before him, but was looking specifically for a doll that could reasonably take on one of my OCs, and that sculpt was the first one that looked right, so I bought him a couple of weeks later. I do still have him, though I've switched him to a new (shorter) body so he's better in scale with the others in the group. And there's a good chance I'd buy him again; it'd be a tough choice between Sprite or ResinSoul's Song (which wasn't available when I made my purchase).
Way back when Soom had Sabiks for sale I was thinking about getting one. It didn't work out, and I don't feel bad about at all it because my taste in BJDs has changed quite a bit since then.
The first doll I ever wanted to buy was a Soom Idealian Danube (is that the name...?) and I didn't get to buy him. I had seen pictures of BJDs before I wanted to get into the hobby but when I finally did and looked around for the doll I would want, his ordering period had just ended. It was a good thing too that I didn't. After seeing him some more and with more experience, he wasn't as good for the character I wanted him to be as I thought he would. Also that he was from the Idealian 51 line which, at the time, would not have been such a bad thing. But because I'm a small person and 70cm dolls are way too big for me, had I gotten him, I might have either dropped out of the hobby because of the expense of getting a doll that wasn't good enough or then I would have been too afraid to get Souji who is a Dollclan's Kien on a 70cm body because then all my props would have been not to scale for other adult dolls. I got a Souldoll Chiron instead which I still love and still have and allowed me to continue with the hobby.
I think while I vollied between a lot of companies and molds, one of my first doll loves was an Iplehouse Claude. ZO.M.Gosh. STILL love that boy to this day. Sadly, never purchased him tho. :/ I think I have him somewhere in the way way way back of my mind as a must have. XD
The first resin bjd I ever wanted was a Soom Rosette Camellia Pure Girl- very cute!!! But I sold her because my tastes changed- I like a more mature look now.
Mine was actually the Obitsu Haruka - I'd seen people paint them up as male or female quite nicely so could see the potential of it. Haruka was the first doll I actually bought, I had to that point no other dolls of interest as most of them that I had seen were all heavily anime styled. I got to know a few other companies and doll styles after attending a doll meet at a convention not long after I got Haruka.
Wow, I don't know if my answers will really be on-topic, but I'll give them anyway. The thing that finally pushed me over the edge into the BJD world was Marina Bychkova's Enchanted Dolls. I don't own one and if I ever have thousands of dollars that I don't know what to do with, sure, I'd love to have one, resin or porcelain. The first BJD I did wind up buying was (is?) an OOAK polymer clay art doll, a faun named Ophelia from Angels by Noemi (Smith). She is gorgeous but really more of a work of art than a standard doll you dress up and "play" with. Edit: I forgot to mention that I also preordered Ruse #2 from Heartstrung Dolls. Those are both kind of Off-topic I guess, so.... on to the next doll I bought, which was the Dollmore Catish White Vert Reaa - bought her on Ebay from Dollmore and I should have her in August. So.. the next doll I bought and received.... you can read about it here. Hooo boy. Sorry if this is a little off-topic - please advise if so! Thank you.
The first doll I wanted to own was Soom's Beryl. She was sold out by the time I found out about her, but I did eventually get a Beryl through Soom's Free Choice Event
The first doll that I really wanted to buy was a Mei, but the first one I bought was Doll Leaves Acorn. I fell in love with her face instantly and bought her on impulse and only sort of regret spending that much money at once.
The first doll I wanted to get was a Delf Dark Elf Soo. I ended up not getting her as my first doll because I decided to get a Delf Juri 06 instead: buy the body, get the head for free... and at the time I was assured Dark Elf Soo would be available withing a year as a compatible head for the body I was buying to get the Juri head. Well that NEVER happened. I kept putting off getting Dark Elf Soo because she was a basic doll and would always be around and I would spend all my money on limited dolls. Then all the Delfs were pulled from the market! Just this past year my husband got me a Dark Elf Soo from the marketplace. She even has the default faceup from the company! Even if she is a bit unevenly yellowed, I love her! It took six and a half years, but I finally got my Dark Elf Soo! I'd like to get her a tan sister someday... and maybe a Little Fee version as well. I love her sculpt so much!
The first doll that actually convinced me to make a purchase was DC Stacy! But.... based on DC waiting times, it'll still be quite a while until I'm actually able to hold her in my hands...
The first resin doll I wanted to buy was a Pipos Bao, and it took me quite a while but I do have one now. I'm really glad I was able to buy an original one; in most cases I think more joints is better, but I was in love with the version I first saw in...2008?
The first BJD I ever wanted to buy was one of the first dolls I had ever seen, an SDF Ethan (limited edition, I think back in 2008?). I believe I missed the event only by a couple of months, but I was an extreme newbie then (and very young), and it would have been too much money for me anyway. I kind of would still like to have him, but I'm not sure if he fits any of my characters anymore. It hurt to see him surface in the marketplace a few times when I had no money!! Maybe one day I'll end up buying him, though - the 2008 version if possible. He sort of gives me a sense of nostalgia when I look at pictures of him since he is the first doll I fell in love with. EDIT: Oh wow, there are some in the marketplace right now, even. Too bad I just ordered a Migidoll Ryu and don't really have any plans for an SDF Ethan yet.
The first doll I was tempted to buy was a customized Volks by Satoko Ohno up for auction on Ebay in 2004. I had never seen an entire bjd up for auction before--just a head now and then (there were very few bjd items listed in those days... maybe a wig or two now and then, but that's about it... and a customized head every few months). Whole dolls were just not available, usually. (There were limited sales that you had to use a buyer to obtain, and some kits, but that's about it.) I made a bid, but was not serious... and the doll went for well over a thousand dollars, so it was way over any amount I had even considered paying... but I understood it because bjds were just so hard to get and Satoko Ohno was a very popular customizer. What that did for me was make it easier for me to consider spending $600 on a bjd (even though I still thought it was an insane amount). So I started to research and look around to see what was available. I wanted a boy, preferably large sized, because I like more mature dolls and there were more outfits available for large sized dolls, and I liked elves--so when CP had their selling period for their limited Elf El--I bought through Liria. He was my first bjd and I still have him.
Migidoll Miho. I'm poor enough that layaway is a huge deal for me, so to this day I still don't have him. I do still plan on getting him someday, but he has dropped on the priority list a little. ^_^ Maybe next year.
Mine was Pipos Baha. She's the first doll I bought and what got me into the hobby. I never really noticed BJDs until I saw her and Heero(who wound up my sister's first doll). I saw Baha and knew I had to have her. I still have her and love her as much as when I first saw her.
Iplehouse Luo was the first doll that I saw that really got me loving him, but one look at how much he cost and I knew I'd never buy him. After that I saw these two fashion type BJD's at Dollmore that I really liked but again they were so expensive I just couldn't go there though I did think about getting their blank heads a lot because I was told I could. The price even for a pair of heads though was so much in the end I just could not justify it. Then I saw a RS Dai and I just flipped over her. I spent the next year thinking I would be getting her but before I did I got several Miro dolls, a couple of smaller RS dolls used, and other heads. Dai actually came late to my collection even though I think she was the first doll I really, really wanted that I could see affording. In the end I still spent as much as I probably would have for that Luo but at least I have a whole collection of dolls to show for it not just one. I'm pretty happy with how it worked out in the end. Other than a couple of bodies for my floating heads and maybe a better head for my MSD guy I feel I'm pretty much done now. I actually just got the last girl head I wanted so he's all that's left unless I decide to get a RS green mini or a deep purple SD sized doll at some point. That's about the only thing that could tempt me at this point I think. I do like the RS green though and I love deep purple so I have thought about some doll in one or the other shade but it's not a must do thing. Just a maybe someday thing. The RS green doll I could see happening down the road but getting the other would mean Miro would have to get a new sculpt that I'd like and that might or might not happen, who knows? So far their sculpts I haven't been too crazy about them. The two ladies I've got are the only dolls of their that I've really liked so I think that them coming up with another doll I'd want to buy is a pretty remote possibility. I do like their bodies and the fact that they will mix custom colors but I'm just not all that keen on most of the heads I don't have so that limits things a bit. Probably a good thing for my wallet...:P
About 3 years ago (before I started this hobby seriously), I was tempted to buy DOC Kirll because he was such a cute boy with devilish eyes! Hahaha! But I didn't really get him. But now I think about it...I may get him later from DOD directly or second hand market. My love for him is still the same...Just I found "more love" dolls afterward...
2 years ago, First doll I wanted to buy, LUTS SDF Eveline.. she was the one that started me with loving all other bjds.. I got her straight after I got the money! Took me 2 months to gather that money x3 so glad I brought her home~
the first doll i wanted to buy was an AngellStudio Gabriel. she just had this really sweet face and they way they photographed her was very flattering. i ended up never getting her though and though i still like her now, i don't as much as before.
Hoo boy, this is tricky. Let's see... The first BJD company I ever got interested in was Luts, but oddly enough, I didn't fall in love with any of their dolls at the time as much as I did with the company itself, we're talking mid-2007. I think maybe An or Ttori were options, but since I was 19 and could barely wrap my head around any purchase larger than $150, I gave up on the spot. A few years later, I found DollZone and considered getting one of their fullset dolls, either Raphael or Luke, though I was leaning more towards Raphael because of the fantasy aspect. I absolutely loved his medieval/flower-themed outfit. But that was it, I loved the outfit, the doll himself? Not so much. He looked a bit too... I don't know, strange, I think? For my tastes, even back then. But if I have to say the first doll I seriously was planning to buy, I'd have to say Luts Kid Delf Nana, around last September. I was desperate to find a smiling, or close enough, doll, and at the time I still hadn't really ventured out into the world outside Luts (ironically, my first doll is definitely not smiling. So much for that!). And Nana was cute and versatile enough for a first doll, or at least that's what I thought. But then I started having doubts about her somewhat pouty-looking mouth, her single-jointed knees (this was before the Multi-Body was announced), and Luts started increasing their prices for faceups, so I got a little demoralized. I don't think I'll ever go back to either Raphael or Nana, but I'm still glad I found them. They helped me fuel the excitement for this hobby, and that's something I will not forget. ...And who knows, maybe if I win the lottery... Never say never, that's what I always say.
The first doll I wanted to buy was Peaks Wood dolls, and the Luts Zulu dolls. I don't have them but I hope one day I will.
Funnily enough, my first doll (the doll I've only received recently) was one of the dolls I had been wanting. It's AOD's 'Yo'. However the other two dolls I was interested in are: DollZone's 'Hid' I'm sure I was looking at one of the Doll Chateau adult sculpts that looked somewhat skeleton-like. I'm not sure, it was a couple years ago.
Resinsoul Mei in white skin or Fairyland Chicline Lishe. I wouldn't buy either one now. Lishe perhaps in ltf form. Oh and I never owned either one, my first was a Doll Leaves Dan.
DreamingDoll Misora... I've moved on from DDoll but I still think that she (or Airi whom I still kinda want...) would have made a great first doll. Sometimes I regret not just buying her.
The first doll I wanted to buy is CP Delf Lishe, I'm just completely fall in love with her. I couldn't afford any bjd then as time goes by I had forgotten about her and move on. Not until recently that I rediscover bjd and fall in love all over again with Lishe. I was lucky enough to found my holy grail Delf Lishe with the face up I adored for sale and I caved in. She cost me an arm and a leg even for a second hand, but she's worth every dollars with no regards. She is just breath taken.
The first doll I wanted to buy was Pukifee Bonnie. I haunted Flickr for ages and finally broke down and bought her a little over a year ago when DDE had her in stock. She is my sweet Hero and I still have her and I still lover her. She is sitting right next to me know while I make her a new outfit. She has couple of friends now!
This is a great topic! When I first found the hobby I was most interested in the Dollshe Bermanns and any of the Unoas. The Bermanns would sell out in 12 minutes after being posted (back in 2005ish?) and both sculpts were too expensive for me so gave up the pursuit. I'm kind of glad though, since then I've learned that I like smaller dolls (smaller than msd) and I've even been gravitating toward off topic dolls (like Blythe). To this day I still have soft spots for the Unoas and Bermanns so who knows, maybe I'll cave in one day and grab a unoa that pops up on the market from time to time
The first BJD dolls I ever saw were Volks and they got me intrigued, but because of their rarity and price tag, I never really considered buying one. Years later, I discovered Fairyland dolls and fell head over heels in love with them - particularly their Pukifees with the multi head. The Pukifee MH Bonnie was my favorite - and was the first one I ordered. Still haven't gotten her yet (since FL takes awhile), but I have managed to acquire several other FL dolls in the meantime.
The first dolls I saw were Volks back in 2006. Way too expensive though. I bought an Obitsu Gretel and an Obitsu Haruka. My first resin was a Bobobie. I finally did get the Volks boy I wanted!
The first doll I saw was a Feeple Chloe (not sure which version). I thought she looked really versatile. In some photos she looked very mature, and in others she looked like a young girl. I decided that I wanted her because of this. When I saw the price I was I explored further and found the Minifee version and decided that price was better for me, but found she didn't quite have the same level of maturity to her face. I think it's because it's just a bit wider, and that throws it off, but I still wanted her. Then I found Celine while continuing to explore and became torn. I joined DoA while I was waiting to order and saw Juri 08 and learned I couldn't just order her. She would have been my first purchase if I could have. Instead I ordered both Chloe and Celine Minifees (which ended up being more expensive than a Feeple Chloe :P), and funnily enough since then I've gotten a Juri 08 off the MP, and she'll be here before they arrive.
I first got into dolls in 2001/2002 when a friend of mine showed me a picture of an SD Sara. I thought she was really neat, because my mom and I collected dolls when I was younger (porcelain and Am. Girl and such) but I wasn't in love with her. I kept thinking about them and eventually found the Volks site... and there was Shirou Tachibana on the home page. He was already sold out and unobtainable. I checked eBay every so often, and started looking at pictures of CP dolls, but was a little too chicken to try a shopping service, but Shirou was my first love. Finally, the eBay thin panned out and in 2003 (or 2004? I can't remember anymore) I saw one pop up for less than 2k. He had been modded to have dreamy eyes, and didn't come with any fullset items, but he was only like $600. I was the only bidder. I found out from talking to the seller that she would be in Dallas (where I lived) in a couple of months for Akon, and I could save on shipping if she just brought him with her. I even invited her to stay at my house since I was going to the con too! (I also talked her out of leaving his jeans with me. X)) Oh, the wait was killer!!!! But once he was in my arms I knew he was perfect! I accidentally damaged the mod when removing his face-up for the first time, so I removed it entirely and have given him serveral face-ups since then... he's definitely due for a new one since I learned about thinning the paint. >,> But I still have him, and he's still my favorite!!
The first doll I wanted to buy was a Dollfie Dream Sasara, but the first resin doll I wanted was a Dream of Doll Calla. Sadly, my tastes have changed rather drastically and I'm no longer interested in DoD's aesthetics, but it's still nice to go back and look at the resin girl that started it all.
DOD Elf I-Ra, and i did get the chance to own her! I didnt click with her like i thought i would but it was really nice to have my grail doll for a little while.
The very first doll I ever saw and fell for was a Narae sculpt around 2006, paired with an Unoa Lusis in a picture on someone's deviantArt page. I still have neither to this very day. Narae is still pretty, but I've changed my tastes a little since then, so I don't know if I'd buy her unless I somehow found her very cheap (fat chance XD). However, I think a Lusis may be my grail doll, like so many other people. She's just so precious! If I had money I'd scoop her right up.
Iplehouse Carina was the first doll I had the urge to buy. I had known about dolls for a few years but Carina was the one that made me actually want a BJD of my own. I bought her two months after meeting my friend's Carina and I still have her. I doubt I will ever part with her!
The first BJD I ever wanted to buy WAS the first one I bought. Elfdoll Rita. I still have her and will never get rid of her.
I had seen a lot of dolls while I was just a sort of casual observer in the hobby, but the doll that really made me want to jump in to take the plunge was the Iplehouse Byuri in "The Addiction" line. I remember staring at her, then the price, then her again trying to make the wires cross as to how I could scrounge up the money for her. I wanted to go for it, but she sold out and that's the end of that. My plans have currently shifted since then, but I really don't think i'd mind owning her in the future!
Volks SD13 Mimi! She was the fifth BJD I bought, but she is the first one I KNEW I wanted for sure. And I still have her. I still love the anime look for my BJDs. april, this sounds almost exactly like the situation where I got my first BJD! I was watching a fullset Volks Kohya auction on ebay, but just couldn't make myself shell out over $1000 for him. When the auction was over, I went to the Volks website and bought the most masculine SD13 in stock that I saw there, which was Volks Link. I don't remember if I even considered him before then. He's perfect for me, and is still my favorite. And I remember seeing and wanting Satoko Ohno's faceupped heads too, and they no doubt influenced me toward buying a Volks first. Linda S. galatia9
On a whim, Lati White Sp. Belle. I'm really glad I adopted her because it lead to my whole Lati addiction.. There wasn't really any thought behind her other than she was too cute for words. I was curious about BJDs - and specifically Latis - after being in the fashion doll community and seeing so many Lati photos within my circle of friends.
My first loves were Dollzone Raphael and his mini-me Baby Raphael. I saw pictures of them separately and was already starry-eyed, but then I spotted the portrait of them together and started pining hard and researching and scouring the internet...and now I have my Raphael as well as triplet Baby Raphaels, haha. (And I wouldn't say no to quads or quints, either. Curse you, Raphael addiction!) No matter how many dolls I own, I suspect those buggers in particular will always have their tiny resin claws dug into my heart.
Pretty sure the first BJD I saw that I really wanted was one of DIM's girls...Marianne, maybe? I do know the first BJD I ever saw was a Dollzone boy. Xi? Yi? Something like that. I think. My memory's not that great. I could be wrong. Although the first one I bought was a Angelregion Dana. Probably. XD
The doll I first wanted to buy was Loius from Glorydoll. Especially I loved the Halloween version. I can not tell why exactly, but that moment I really fell in love with that sculpt. Up to that moment the company stopped, so I could not get him. So I got another first doll, then a few more, and I really like them. I still like the Louis sculpt and think that the company was making very special dolls but I also would say that there are many other great companies who make amazing dolls.
The first bjd I ever fell in love with/wanted to buy was Angel Studio's Lan. I first saw her as the model for their 1/3 western dress/deer girl outfit. Unfortunately they had to change the stockings/leggings which ended up being a huge regret to me. I wish I'd ordered it before the material change le sigh... '''orz
The first doll that I wanted to buy was DOT Tender Shall. When I saw the prices, I couldn't believe it so I stopped hoping that I can even own one and I also stopped looking at BJD-related pictures. Years later, after stumbling once again to some BJD pictures, I started searching for BJDs again. And once again, I started loving that very same sculpt. Probably because Dream of Doll was the first BJD website I have visited. Sadly, I don't like that sculpt now as much as I used to. So I crossed out that doll in my wishlist.
The first doll I wanted to buy was a Migidoll Miho. I did not end up getting a Miho and I sadly still do not have one but I hope to get on in the future.
i think it was the school A head from volks... but i wanted to buy a doll before that, just didn't have anything specific i would like... most dolls looked samefaced to me at first, especially volks ones
The first doll I actually wanted to buy was a RS Gang, and I still would like to make him my first purchase. A long-time character of mine saw him and perked up as being "his" body, and that was the first time that had happened. Almost purchased him at a convention too, but chose not to because of the expense. Now that I'm in a better place financially, I plan on getting him within the next year!
The first doll I wanted to buy was a Dollshe Saint. I did purchase him (I actually have two Saints now), and I love them so much! They were everything I had hoped they would be and more. I wanted many of the Soom LE dolls around the same time (I was looking up many, many companies per day at the time) and I have all of the ones I had missed out on before I joined the hobby.
the first doll i really wanted to buy was a dream of doll shall, but since was just discovering bjds and only wanted one as an artist model i thought she was too expensive and got an obitsu instead. now many years (and dolls) later i still think she is lovely but i have found that msd sized dolls are as big as i want so even though i don't get the sticker shock when i see her anymore, i'll never bring her home.
The first doll I ever wanted to buy was Dream of Doll DOT Azera. I quickly realized he was not the right one for me though, at least for my first. I am still fond of him, but I do not know if I will ever buy him.
For me, I think the first doll I wanted to buy was the first one I saw - Volks Chii! But the first one I seriously /tried/ to buy and actually put some effort into researching was Customhouse Siwon - but as a girl. I've got a boy Siwon now who's about to go off for a faceup, and hopefully once I find someone to swap bodies with me, I'll finally have that doll I was dreaming of back in 2005. XD
