Accessories What jewelry and accessories are you making?

Mar 15, 2011

    1. I see a lot of threads in this forum for sewing and furniture, but nothing for jewelry making, so I figured I'd make one! I've made a few things, myself, so I'd love to see what everyone else is making!

Post your pictures and ideas for necklaces, bracelets, rings, brooches, head bands, hair clips, hat bands, etc! Post your questions for help, and help others with their questions; but most importantly, HAVE FUN! Follow the rules of this subforum and please do not post about selling/trading, nor ask if anything pictured is for sale.

    2. I'll even start us all off. Here's a few things I've made, recently:

MSD sized Swallow necklace with seed beads.

MSD sized Doe necklace with seed beads.

MSD sized long Teddy bear necklace with seed beads.

    3. KitsuneClaws: Congratulations on your first BJD!

I've been playing with Charlottes and pearls lately, as well as some other stones. This piece is on my Fairyland Chic-Line Cat Girl!

    4. Ooooh, that's pretty neat looking!! I have yet to try making something so fancy. XD

And thanks for the gratz, dhawktx! I should get him on Friday, so maybe I'll get some pictures up this weekend. <3

    5. Before I sent Tegan away for a face up I made some pearl jewelry for her, a necklace and a headband!

      She looks totally different now!

    6. I love it, Glowbee!! Absolutely cute!

    7. The pearl headband is lovely, Glowbee.

I'm working on some necklaces for my Lucienne (BBB Pixie) before she arrives. It will be part of my first gifts for her.

    8. Be sure to share some pictures, NoloVineStrike! You're making me feel bad, though, I haven't made anything for my first before he gets here.... XD

    9. I've made two skull necklaces for my boy. But my hard drive isn't plugged in. I am in bed right now, far from it. But I will update with pics for sure. *subscribes*

    10. Here are some pieces I've made for my dolls.

First, a purple and black piece. I only made the top, beaded choker here. The necklace, and doll, both now belong to my sister.

      Silver and green choker:

      And this teal/blue choker:

I've made a LOT more jewelry for dolls, but it's either not photographed yet, or was made for other people's dolls for swaps.

    11. Those are so nice Aya. I like everyones' pieces.

I haven't really figured out what my Marc likes...so this is all that I have.
      [IMG][IMG]

    12. [IMG]
I made the cupcake necklace and bracelets. :)

    13. I love that teal choker! Absolutely adorable! More pics are demanded. :P

      XpHoBiaX: Awesome skulls!!

Chiiruchan: How cute!! I'm a baker at heart, so cupcakes are right up my alley. I love her dress, too!

Thanks for posting, everyone! Keep them coming!

    14. I can share a few more of the pieces I've made...

A set of pink necklaces for an MSD for a swap:

A 'Blue Lolita' set I made for a BBB Sprite for another swap:
This is a 'headband' and a choker.

A black and white 'lacey' set for an SD for a swap. This one is a 'belt', a necklace (the half black, half white piece) and two bracelets:

Green and gold 'flower' necklace for a YoSD:

Green and white pendant necklace for a YoSD:

White and green choker for a YoSD:

All the Yo sized pieces were made for the same Yo in a swap. Working that small is hard, but a LOT of fun, too!

    15. Wow Aya, you're so talented!! I really like your work. I wish I had a girl doll now lol!!

Thanks Kitsune! I used Halloween rings and a dremmel tool to drill into them. I have a good handful of the little skulls.

    16. Thanks! I've been doing human sized work like this since I was 12, and was taught by my aunt and uncle. It's a lot of fun, and REALLY relaxing!

And...boys can wear similar stuff, too! Pattern and color choice can really make a difference from 'effeminate' to 'more masculine'. The purple on the female doll, was actually made for that doll when I was using her as a boy. In the end, she just wasn't working for the character, and so got to be a girl again, and sent to my sister instead. The necklace went with because it didn't fit the Resinsoul boy who took over the character. Eventually I'll make him another one of his own. Of course...he's also my gay boy, so purples, that are on the 'girly' side are great for him. But I've also got a more masculine boy who will get a few more masculine pieces. Really, if I can, I want to find some tiny shark teeth, or tiny fake claws and things to work with for him. If I can't find any, I may just have to make some. Because it's HARD to take a shark tooth, or a fake bear claw and bead it to look like it belongs on a girly girl.

Eventually, I'll be making some tutorials, too, on how to do the different types of bead stitches, so those who don't know how can learn. Much like my aunt was happy to teach anyone who wanted to learn when she taught me, I'm happy to pass it on, too. I mean...at one point there were entire Native American tribes where the knowledge of how to make their traditional beaded jewelry died out because they couldn't teach it to the younger members, and continue to pass it on down generations. My aunt actually got adopted into a tribe (I totally have no idea which, though...Can't recall if I was ever told, or if I just didn't listen, because I was starting into my teens and didn't care) because she taught those of the tribe who wanted to learn how to make beaded jewelry again. She was able to teach them the original 'stitches' that their ancestors had used, because she knew them, by looking at pieces made BY their ancestors and recognizing the different stitches. Knowing that it happened to a people to whom it meant so much makes me realize that it could happen again, if people choose not to pass it on, or to only teach those who will pay to learn. So I want to make tutorials to pass on to anyone with a will to learn.

And that totally branched a little off topic! Heh.

    17. I have real bones lying about that I want to use for my boy. I have a collection of snake and rat vertebre, as well as fox femurs and turkey neck bones. XD

My boy is a little small for most of those, but the snake ones would work just fine. I mostly work with wire, instead of thread. I would love to seem some tutorials though. (Plus I need to get back to making bone jewlery...it is relaxing)

    18. I found a tiny little peridot stone for my doll Peridot, and finally found some tiny figaro chain and thin wire to make her a little necklace. Now she has something green to wear.

    19. I would LOVE to see some dolly bone jewelry! My dad has a collection of snake bones that I am SERIOUSLY tempted to raid for 1 or 2 of my 27cm dolls! I'm 75% sure he wouldn't mind if I did...heh. Hmmm...Now you've got me seriously thinking about it. Really, my water demon boy would look AWESOME as his 'evil' self with some bone jewelry...his 'tame' self wouldn't have any, but it'd make for some cool accessories for those times he 'escapes' from the magic bonds that make him 'tame'. ^-^

AutumnMoon: That's a really pretty, and simple piece. I really like! And the scale looks PERFECT for your doll, which can be REALLY hard to do!

    20. I <3 bone jewelry! I have a bag of rat bones waiting to be made into necklaces at the moment. I'm also planning on making jewelry from some honey locust thorns a friend gave me, I just need to get some fine grit sandpaper to polish them up a little. Some of them have lichen on them, so when they get a really fine sanding and waxing, they'll shine like silver.

I've also been making piles of doll-sized kandi, mostly singles in bracelets, necklaces and rings. (I have a new guy who's reeeally into wearing piles and piles of kandi at all times. XD) So far I've made only three cuffs for dolls, one of which took what felt like forever because it's made with 10/0 rocailles and done in peyote stitch in this design:
      http://kandipatterns.com/patterns/animals/two-ponies

Here are the simple ones I've done so far. I'd have made more, but honestly, there's no more room on his arms for him to wear them. XD

    21. :) I've been making a lot of things lately...

I just made this headdress today (huge soft spot for headdresses... ...) I think my girl Marivit looks quite pleased.

    22. I adore that blue flower beaded headband, Ayas-Shadow!! You do gorgeous work! As for suggestions for you and for XpHoBiaX, I suggest going to a Halloween store when it's the right time and buying those little firm foam skeletons. Cheap and MANY little bones to work with! The garland of them that I bought fell apart when I moved recently, so when I picked up all those little feet, fingers and femurs, a plan formed in my head to use them for little jewelry for my demon bjd!

      Absolutely gorgeous! Well done!

    23. Ayas-Shadow I really love your works! I've been wanting to try out bead-stitching for a long while now but I tend to botch things up far too frequently that I almost gave up! :( Seeing your works now makes me want to try again!

      ...well one day anyway hahaha

Here's a beaded flower headband I made today after going through several tutorials from some of my books :)

      I didn't realize I placed the flower on her head a wee bit too high on this shot >_<;;

A photo of it on its own (man that wire-wrapping took FOREVER to complete) *_*
      [IMG]

    24. Thank you. ^___^ I made her some other stuff too-- this is her in her full regalia. I want to find my metals again, I have the urge to make some armor-y things. :c

    25. I made armor for my Marc, but I already posted a new topic about that. (http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?436039-Making-Armor-%28with-Pics!%29 )
I don't know if that counts for accessories anyways.
I want to make a couple more pieces of armor in different colors. I also found some snake vertebre that I will use to make another necklace for my boy. They are the perfect size!

That head dress is fantastic! I love the beaded headband too!

    26. Oooh, gorgeous! Did you make her clothes, too?

Sure, armor can be in here, too. Why the heck not. :P

    27. OK, well...here's the pics from the topic I have.
I'm waiting on his eyes to get here, still. lol
      [IMG]

    28. Your armor looks awesome! c: I definitely think armor counts as accessories. :)

I didn't make her clothes nah. I can't sew at all besides making crude repairs. XD I mixed an HZ outfit with a coat part from another outfit. :3 Thank you though! X3

    29. Thank you DekuPhantomme. I will probably see about making different colors and styles of armor. So I will be posting sometime soon! I will also see about making little swords for Marc as well. Ones that will match his armor.

    30. Eee, little swords! I would love to see. x3

    31. Chyeah~! X3
I have a couple ideas floating about in my head. Hehe. I have a couple mismatched femur bones I could saw up and use for a hilt. That will have to be done outside though...I hope it's sunny tomorrow. @___@

I could also mold one....gah so many ideas! lol

    32. I did this beret for a swap.
As I don't have MSD doll at home, my Munny is modeling it for me :)

    33. Cute! i love berets. I have a hard time making them, though. As odd as that sounds. The Munnie is cute too.

    34. I re-made some jewelry bought at Claire's into an Egyptian Collar for my Euclase--
      [IMG]

The original was a bracelet using most all of the beads that I re-used, strung using jelly-elastic on gold-toned eleven 10-hole spacer bars. I used 8 of the spacers-- two at the back, two at the top of the shoulders, two at the sides of the chest and two in front. And I used tigertail to string the beads. The trickiest part was figuring out how many beads to put between the spacers in the two rows closest to the neck--on order to make sure the spacers would fall in the right position and lay flat on his body. I was continually trying it on him to make sure...

... And while I was at it, I also made armbands and wrist-bands out of beads on eye-pins strung at the top and bottom with beads on jelly-elastic. And raided more Claire's jewelry and chain from Michael's for the head-dress.

Then I found a gold-toned necklace at Claire's that I adapted for my Euclase (the necklace is still available at Claire's the last time I looked--the bracelet was from last year). All I had to do was re-attach the tops of the gold "leaves" so that they were closer together... to fit the SuperGem neck instead of a human's... and remove the extra chains from the ends... This made another type of Collar, with chain hanging from it over his chest and shoulders....

Here it is worn over the other collar... but it probably would be better alone (I was just being lazy).

    35. Wow! All of you guys' jewelry is lovely! I really need to make some myself! I'll post them up here as soon as I do!

    36. WOW April!! O_O I don't know what else to say! Those are amazing!

    37. Thanks! I wish I'd thought about the colors and patterns more for the beads on the collar, but I only had a limited amount of beads the right size... Maybe I'll re-string it someday... or try making another one...

The gold one was pretty much exactly as it was from Claire's, only shortened at the neck and with new clasps... I think it makes a great easy-to-alter Egyptian-like collar for large-sized dolls. :)

    38. april: VERY creative use of an existing piece! Kudos! And I love both the Egyptian collar and the way you made the bracelets with the beads on wires - very fresh looking technique!

    39. XpHoBiaX: I'd love to see tiny swords!!!

      Sandra: Awesome beret! So cute!

April: Those are simply amazing... O_O

PrincessTomato: Can't wait to see them!

Keep them coming, guys! All of these pieces are so inspirational!

    40. april: I love the look. I want to make something like that too.
Ayas-Shadow: I would love to have your skills.

    41. Sandra- I -love- that beret so much... absolutely adorable!

      April- Fantastic work!

    42. I love all of this bead work, its so delicate. I might have to start beading for my BJD.

    43. Oh wow, this is one of the mos beautiful pieces I've seen. Are you going to do more Egyptian work?

    44. I saw a stand of bracelets and necklaces at a store yesterday and thought about buying a few for my doll.. then remembered he's a boy and doesn't wear much jewelry. But it looked fun while it lasted! XD

    45. seed beads really are the perfect size for dolls and are also so easy to make things with even off of the loom. me and my family all love making jewelry and its the perfect thing for christmas prezzies to each other and friends, (just very time consuming esp if your making a lot of them) but they look amazing on the dolls as well as us 'fully growns' some really good colours to work with are gunmetal silver iris blue black and then pastels with aqua and turquoise even pink (shock horror) along with pearl. for some ideas for people anyway. good luck everyone with your designs and will be good to see more1

ooh another thing is if you have soft wire and a wooden spoon and clippers you can make chain mail links really easily then all you have to do is link them up together for rings or necklaces or even Armour if you like, but its easy to sit there and not realize your doing it whilst watching TV and so on!

    46. I love making jewelry, not only for people, but the little people too (dolls).
I made this pendant the other day. If anyone wants one let me know :) I have 4 heart shapes left.
The colors can be changed to anything you want :)
Will need to know soon, I'm getting married in a few weeks and will have everything packed and ready to move soon.
      -hugs-

    47. awesome! i need to take some pics of stuff i work with on hanny soon! in the meantime i am going to subscribe!

    48. Is that a yarn wig? I love how soft they look after being all brushed out. <3

Oooh, we get to see more of Hannibal?

    49. KitsuneClaws: It's straightened yarn, brushed out, and attached to a fabric and glue wig cap.

    50. yep more of hannibal! lol actually i just got this necklace lengthened for him... i am thinking for putting some red beading down one side, kind of like a blood drip.[IMG]

    51. You might want to edit your post, any buying/selling/commissioning talk outside of the Marketplace could earn you a suspension. Link here.

    52. What a great idea!! I love that necklace, and I'd wear it myself if I could. :P

      Cute rings, Tokishone!

    53. I made a little Golem from the anime, D. Gray Man for Terence. He's cosplaying a bishie version of the jester in the poster that Allen has on his bedroom wall.

    54. Completely adorable... I've seen some of that anime, but not all. Did you make that hat, too?

    55. [IMG]

Finally I had made something for my doll >_<

    56. well this is something i plan on selling eventually. [IMG]it would probably look WAY better on a female, we will have to see ;)

      • x 1
    57. Very cute, superyeahookiki - I love it!

Wow, that's pretty cool, my lacerated soul!! It might look even better on a larger doll, too.

    58. i think so, i might have to use one of my cousins dolls to see the difference!

    59. That is really lovely!

    60. So I have been busy this morning. ;)

Bone armor, I am still fiddling with this. I also need to make a little cape thingy to cover the back.
      [IMG][IMG]

Some necklaces. Sorry for the blurriness. My fingers are real sore from getting poked and pinched from my tools. lol
