What is your favorite fantasy sculpt?

Oh--Fantasy sculpts are my favorites! My first 3 or 4 bjds were elves, starting back in '04 and '05, and for a while it was just elves and vampires, but then things got VERY interesting and the sky's the limit now. So many great sculpts!!!

What is/are your favorite fantasy sculpt(s)?

1. Dollzone Anson (and Memory)
I don't own it, but for sheer beauty, intricacy, sculpting, production, creativity... it's a total win. I love them, and have been tempted, but they seem so delicate. I'd probably be a bit afraid I'd break one!

2. Doll-Chateau Alberta.
Weird, quirky, imaginative. Doll-Chateau started out with an aim to make their own outrageous style in the bjd world and they have succeeded.
I DO own Alberta, in fullset because D-C's total styling is just incredible--the painting and the outfits. Alberta's outfit wasn't as amazing as some of their other dolls, but it's not so easy dressing something with four legs...

3. Soom Monthly Doll Sard.
Of course I own this guy. Not the fullset because the outfit was too expensive at the time, but I since got him another Soom outfit (Chrom's).
Soom had been making lovely dolls, but really took off with their fantasy sculpts, which was also the full-package, with excellent sculpting, fantasy parts, gorgeous painting and styling. And yet they still allowed for the very creative owners to take it even farther from there. A list of fantasy dolls can't really be complete without a Soom! They really make the best. And they keep making more and more amazing fantasy dolls in all sizes and shapes. The depth of their ability is just mind-boggling.
Sard was one of the first and he's just a classic! Hooves and horns and a big gorgeous guy. Just perfection, I think!

What kind of sculpt do you wish was out there that you have not found?
NOOOOOOOO!!!!! I have too many dolls as it is! (Yes, that is possible! I started in frickin' '04 and there have been just too many amazing dolls made over the years and I tend to get too attached!). Even now I'm on layaway for one of Soom's mini centaur Shale/Adamelli dolls. I sort of wanted a Drow from Soom, but I went for cheap and got a MiroDoll 68cm guy in black resin. I like Soom for the amazing fantasy parts, anyway. And now so many other companies are making incredible dolls with no limits to their imagination... I fear I'm going to end up being one of those hoarders they find buried under tons of gorgeous resin some day!!!

Of course, I'll still look forward to seeing and being tempted by whatever new fantasy dolls are created. And loving what owners come up with, too. That's one of the very exciting things about BJDs that never ends... the immense creativity everyone involved has--in sculpting, producing, designing, tailoring, making props, making photos... It's just never-ending beauty and wonder!

 

What is/are your favorite fantasy sculpt(s)?
I really love Soom's Wind Elves, Grey and Ace, from 2012. Or any sculpt that has big animal ears and cute animal feet. I also really love the centaur trend that's happening right now in the BJD world.

Do you own it? Do you plan on owning it in the future?
Unfortunately, Grey and Ace are no longer available and I wasn't in the BJD hobby until long after they were discontinued, but I might keep my eyes out for one of them in the marketplace. I do hope to get a centaur some day.

What kind of sculpt do you wish was out there that you have not found?
I guess there's already a few, but I wish to see more android-type dolls come out in the future (that counts, right? Sci-fi is a kind of fantasy, I guess?).

Soom Heliot Romantic head (Don't particularly care for many of Soom's fantasy parts though)

Do you own it? Do you plan on owning it in the future?
While I do have a Heliot head (Yay!) I don't think I'll ever be able to get a Moment. I don't like the idea of spending $400+ on a MSD or smaller,so he'll remain just a picture I like to look at,plus my aesthetic has shifted anyway so if I were to shell out that much for him it would most likely just be for the body and flower arms.

What kind of sculpt do you wish was out there that you have not found?
Far too many to list,but an example would be better/a larger animal variety of centaur dolls. I've seen the classic horse and deer type (and although they're actually not centaurs one company does have an okay Naga body) a lot,and while those are nice they always look a bit off to me or there for YoSDs.
Since I already know that the grand majority of them will likely never get released (or at least not in an aesthetic I like) though I can always cut out the headache of searching for them and dealing with companies by sculpting them myself. :3

While I would LOVE to own her, but finding her fullset with all the original blushing and faceup seems impossible. She would not quite fit in with my other dolls either... most of my SDs are under 60cm and have a very different aesthetic. Still I would not turn her down if the opportunity and finances presented themselves.

What kind of sculpt do you wish was out there that you have not found?
Two come to mind:
I would love to see something like Luna Tamer, but a bit more cat like and more savage looking. More cat like jointing in the legs, a more pronounced muzzle, bigger ears. Then I could finally inresinate my cat girl character! Idealy, I want her in a 60cm size.

I would also love to see a western based dragon doll. Most of the ones I have seen have a distinct oriental dragon aesthetic. I want to see scales and claws and wings, not the more furry looking ones that have been made. I am not very picky on the size as the age of the character I have in mind is not set, but no larger than a 60cm doll would be ideal for me.

Almost all fantasy sculpts I'm interested in are from DollChateau. Two of my favourites are Elizabeth and Amos.

Amos is supposedly a boy, but he's a girl. It annoys me so much that he looks 100% like a girl but the company insists he's a boy. .-. Come on! I would pick Alberta, but I like Amos' open eyes more, and I don't think it's possible to switch busts.

Sadly, no. Maybe if I have enough dough and I'm comfortable with spending it, I will. They're so beautifully sculpted and I would probably purchase them for artistic reasons more than well, just playing around with them. I'm going to illustrate the most beautiful intricate designs and patterns on them! Especially on that Elizabeth, ugh! :')

Sounds a little cheesy but I'd like to see a unicorn hybrid. Just like Amos, but with a beautiful horn. Maybe even made out of clear resin! Also, conjoined twins. DollChateau's conjoined twins look a little weird and don't have much freedom to play with, so I would like to see some twins that are joined either by the arm or or leg.

Pretty much SOOM's fantasy dolls. But if I have to choose, based on the fantasy parts, I pick SOOM Vesuvia -> http://dollsoom.com/eng/shop/item.php?it_id=1249033324
The scorpion tail and the heels, plus violet skin. Definitely one of the best sculpts SOOM has ever released.
For the tinies, SOOM Pyrol/Minette and SOOM Picro/Sammi are extraordinarily good. Using Axolotl as an inspiration never crossed my mind but wow they nailed it.

Do you own it? Do you plan on owning it in the future?

No. As much as I love fantasy dolls, I'm not sure how to work it out if I have one. But let's see a few more years ahead, I have this tendency to change my mind often if the sculpt amazes me.

What kind of sculpt do you wish was out there that you have not found?

Well, werewolf. There is a soom chrom, but he doesn't really do it. And none of other companies' wolves have either. They created a lot of great vampires, angels, robots, mermaids, etc, but their werewolves are so bland in my opinion. I want to see fierce wolves.

I own a Sard, and agree with April that they DO allow for owner freedom still. We both have the same doll with the same face-up & body blushing but they look so different.

What is/are your favorite fantasy sculpt(s)?
Ahhhh so many

1. Soom Beryl
The very first doll to get me interested in the BJD hobby. I love everything about her first release - especially the way her giant hooves balance out her curvy body and the contrast between her blond hair and pink corset (so sweet) and her bronze and green themed wings and hooves (so dark).

2. Soom Vesuvia
The first 'special resin' BJD I ever saw. But her gorgeous purple pearl skin wasn't what I loved about her most... it was that tail I still consider Vesuvia to be one of the most unique BJDs out there.

3. Soom Amber
The first doll I really regretted not buying. I passed her up originally because she didn't have as much contrast to her as Beryl did, but I ended up falling head over heels for her ethereal ghostliness. I think her hooves are unfairly disliked by a lot of people - her 'two joint' design isn't quite as easy to work with as the more popular 'three joint' design, but she can do some amazing poses that other dolls can't manage!

4. Soom Breccia
Another doll I sorely regretted missing out on. Originally I thought she was too sweet looking, but once people started getting her home and posting owner photos I was totally smitten! I love how delicate her fantasy legs are - unlike Soom's hooves (which have massive solid bases), Breccia stands almost on her tiptoes. It makes her seem so much more elegant!

Beryl - yes, in NS instead of her original CW.
Vesuvia - not yet, though I do own her tail (my Migma wears it). I do eventually want a Vesuvia head in Bronze or a darker tan.
Amber - yes! I collected all her parts in the original CW (except her antlers, which I didn't really like), and I have her body in bronze as well.
Breccia - soon! I ordered a bronze Breccia in Soom's most recent Free Choice Event. I'm super nervous about how she'll look in bronze, but I'm crossing my fingers I'll love her just as much as her CW version!

What kind of sculpt do you wish was out there that you have not found?
A male counterpart to Vesuvia (scorpion tailed).
A griffon (lion paws + eagle wings and taloned hands)

It seems all the overall unique fantasy dolls that I can find are from Doll-Chateau and out of theirs I like Ada and Russell

Well I would like to own the Doll-Chateau Russell but that depends if they release them separately instead of just keeping them in the event.

Unfortunately Ada was a limited so I missed out my chance with her. But I keep optimistic that I may find one in the MP

So many mythical creatures not enough space. Uhhh a Cerberus, Gorgons, Hippocampi, Ichthyocentaurs (basically marine centaurs),Serpopard (serpent leopard).

Basically I'd like to see a bigger variety not just the basic ones people know something to make you go "ooooo haven't seen that before" or something that you have to look up. Unfortunately they won't be made well I doubt they will and I can't sculpt things to save my life so I wouldn't be able to make one.

Flowne is next up on my purchase list! I love her elf head sooo much, and her soft little face is just the sweetest thing I've ever seen.The Soom centaurs I do have, except for the tinytaur which is my grail. I really want just a giant herd of centaurs x3

A better anthro dragon sculpt, or maybe just more original creatures

- I love dragons in human form that still look dragonish. He is just gorgeous.

No, I don't own one. It is probably a unobtainable grail doll, since they are no longer for sale.

What kind of sculpt do you wish was out there that you have not found?
Some sexy aliens, humanoid but definitely alien.

 

What is/are your favorite fantasy sculpt(s)?
From what I've seen so far, my favorite fantasy sculpts are FL Siean (if something as humble as elf ears even counts ), DC Alberta and Ada, and Iplehouse Grace's vamp version (which is weird since I don't fancy vampires usually) ... also Iplehouse Bianca vamp's wings. Bat wings. So cute! Also, Fairyland's RealPukis and the DreamHigh fairies ... but I'm not quite ready to dump that much money on such a small doll, even though I know they're worth it.

I don't think I'll ever buy a vampire doll because I go by characters and I don't do vamps, but Siean is likely to happen at some point ... so are the Pukis and the little quadripeds, once I finish with my "must have" list of pre-existing characters and branch out into MSD and smaller. (I need to set rules for myself or I'd end up with a forest's worth of little cute fantasy creatures I have neither characters, plans, or (strictly speaking) any use for ) So I'll stick to the SDs next door for the time being and go fantasy when I'm done with my main crew. I'm not fooling myself into thinking I can ever truly be "finished" with a collection, what with the ingenuity of doll companies and the incredible things they keep coming up with.


What kind of sculpt do you wish was out there that you have not found?
I'm drawing a blank here. I guess I'd like to see some pointy-eared MSDs, not the super skinny fairy kind, but of "normal" / realistic build (like Iple's JIDs, I guess) with pointy ears to be hobbits. I'd like that. Then again, hobbits tend to have curly hair that'd hide their ears anyway, so no need to bother

Yes, I own both of them! They were at the top of my priority list when I joined the hobby. With Amber, I was lucky and found a fullset on the MP right away. With Heliot, not so much. I had to piece him together, and it's taken about two and a half years to get to the stage he's at currently. His hooves are away getting blushed at the moment, and now all I need are his God Master hands. I might try to get a set of wings down the road too. What is/are your favorite fantasy sculpt(s)?
My first love with these was RS Yao, but as I digged deeper in world of BJD's I found few more. Soom has Shoshon and Ender - even if it could be under debate, if Ender is fantasy scuplt or not. Then there is already mentioned Dollzone Anson, and Otherside Ginkgo. (If Otherside dolls are banned/off topic, please just ignore, that I have mentionned it here.)

I own Yao (my Chandira), but none else of these. I wish I could sometime have any of others, but as the Sooms and DZ Anson are limited, it will probably not happen.

What kind of sculpt do you wish was out there that you have not found?
I wish for MSD sized and long-tailed naga, and more of those with multiple arms, like Soul Doll's Shiva. Also, more egyptian god-like sculpts would be nice (like Sekhmet, Bastet or Thoth).

 

Oh fantasy dolls, my greatest weakness! That's actually what I'm basing my collection on right now. I'm shelling characters from a story of mine in the hopes of becoming inspired to write more and so far I'm doing pretty well (ugh I've gotten way too many dolls!). So far my Doll Chateau Charles fits my dryad type creature, my SOOM Pyrol takes the role of the centaur, my Resin Soul Song is the elf I needed (I LOVE ELVES!!!!!), I'm waiting on a Resin Soul Ming to be both a satyr and a totally different character, and I have TONS of others that I'd love to buy because I will never run out of characters.

But of all the fantasy sculpts, I love elves the most! ^_^ And I hope to add one or two more to my collection...though I really shouldn't.

Doll Leaves Evan, SOOM Heliot, SOOM Zinc (all SOOM dolls are amazing though, right? I love that company!) Withdoll Fallen Angel Kyle (the wings are AMAZING ) I'm sure there are more but my brain just blanked out.

I'm torn between the Doll Leaves Evan and a second hand SOOM Ponolus right now but I think in the future I'll get him. I'd love to get the Withdoll Kyle because the wings are amazing! I wish they made wings for SD dolls because I could really use them for an unshelled character that I love.

A merman maybe? Do they make those?
More winged dolls would be nice too.

 

bjdod, Asleep Eidolon makes 1/6-sized mermaids. And so does Planet Doll.

Edit: oh, you asked mermen. I don't know if tjose firms do male versions, but I remember that some firm does. I can look it up.
