Hello! Long time no post. I've finally found time to work on my very own personal made ball joint doll. I'm going to be following the Noah's Doll tutorial found here: http://www2d.biglobe.ne.jp/~dhnoah/make_00.htm I have Styrofoam, sawdust, paste, a drawn up plan, even elastic! But I don't have a part in step two. At the very bottom, there's a bonding agent in a yellow bottle: http://www2d.biglobe.ne.jp/~dhnoah/make_02.htm Anyone know what this is? Or how important it is to the process?
This may be an extremely stupid question, but I am new to the whole custom dolls. I understand all the ingredients except for the paste. Do you make the paste yourself or buy it? if so, where and what do you buy? again, this may be a stupid question, but I really don't know.. >_> must have clarification!!! XD
This could be another stupid question, but I also saw Noah's tutorial a while back and am wondering if you really need that sawdust paste? What is the purpose of this sawdust paste? Is it another option to, say, air dry clay? Could you just wrap the styrofoam base with air dry clay and start working from there? I searched for sawdust paste in this forum but didn't find much information :-S
Air dry clay is expensive. I've never done this before. I'd rather spend next to nothing on something that probably will suck and die in a fire half way through, than spend an arm and a leg on a learning doll that probably won't ever be finished, cast, or strung. Otherwise, it's just a base. Probably to make something strong, cheap, and give a strong base that won't collapse. Wood's pretty strong, look at particle board. Then you put clay over it to make it smooth. I tried to make my own paste, and it was HORRIBLE! Buy paste. It's a dollar at a craft store, I don't think it'll actually matter what kind, just something that makes the sawdust into a sticky paste like thing.
