Just For Fun What is the one thing for your dolls you cannot do without?

Aug 14, 2018

    1. Following our Back to Basics theme-- Just for Fun-- :kitty2

What is the one thing for your dolls that you cannot do without?

    2. Eyes

    3. Eyes. Second thing would be a wig.

    4. I agree with eyes. But I'd also say a face up. That's the thing that really makes a difference.

    5. Not counting the doll itself (and I'm kinda including the eyes in that category since most companies ship out dolls with random eyes right, right?) probably the magic eraser. Lol, the ways they can get dirty with even the minor amount of handling needed for photos - it's really gotta be the magic eraser.

    6. Something for the doll, eyes.
I love the blank sculpt Flickr group though so nude, blank bald dolls are a-ok with me but I like them to have eyes in.

Something for the hobby, camera. I can do faceups and make clothing. In a pinch, I could make some sort of eyes and a wig, and even some shoes but sharing the doll love online via photos is such a big part of the hobby.

    7. My big red pliers to lift that super tight s-hook at the neck and change my doll's head!
      hehehe =^.^=

    8. Eyes/wig
All my dolls have eyes and wigs, even just the floating heads

    9. My Volks hook that is made to pull up s hook inside head. Hard to change eyes for me if I can’t remove head. Forceps are close second for the hands and feet.

    10. A wardrobe
I know that sounds weird, but unless I can potentially put together a full wardrobe for a doll (at least 4 complete outfits) they just won't be staying! No idea why really, perhaps it has something to do with my own personal process of character building.

    11. Elastic ;)

    12. My first thought exactly

    13. A story. I wouldn't even have bjd's if I hadn't had a story in my head and a bunch of OC's to shell. Of course, I now own a couple who aren't part of the story, but without that first one calling out to me about how much he looked like one of my characters... I don't think I would have taken the leap.

    14. Resin. XD

But once we get past the doll itself (including wig/eyes), a character. My dolls without characters don't last long around here, they either get a character or get sold. The bond to the character is as important to me as the bond to the doll itself.

    15. Eyes/wig is always the first physical thing I get. But I won't buy a doll without a character. Keeps my numbers down.

      • Cake Cake x 1
    16. Tied between a faceup and wig. I can deal with a doll with the wrong eyes for a while but they feel sad until the faceup or wig is right!

      • Cake Cake x 1
    17. That special spark that leads to inspiration. If I can't see what I would do with a doll, whether its character building or crafting, or just styling them in something that pleases me aesthetically than I can't justify bringing them home.

    18. Hemostats. I can't do anything with stringing without a few pairs. (I could but I'd whine the whole time)

      • Cake Cake x 1
    19. My doll carrier. I used that one so, so much allready! I can get creative with anything else. Beads for eyes, wigless, naked, some even no face-up for 6 (!!!) Years allready. But I don't mind. Basic dolls are beautiful. I would take them anywhere with me, in my doll carrier.

    20. Eyes then a wig. If they have that, then the rest can come later.

      • Cake Cake x 1
    21. An artist to create and sculpt them. ;)

      • x 2
      • Cake Cake x 1
    22. Eyes. S faceup is beautiful, a wig is beautiful, but if they don't have eyes, then hubby says they can't come in.

      • Cake Cake x 1
    23. A bonding.

      • x 1
      • Cake Cake x 1
    24. I know it may seem odd, but carrying cases! I'd rather my dolls be nude and eyeless than not have a bag to safely store and carry them in

      • Cake Cake x 1
    25. Must be wig, because the first thing I buy after ordering a doll, and that is usually waiting for it (whether they accept it or not) is a wig :) I've only begun to create characters for my dolls, so I'm going backwards :D As long as I have something to put in the eye sockets, I'm good to go for a while, but I really want clothing probably as bad as the wig!

    26. I'll have to go with eyes if they didn't come with any...I've had dolls do without wigs so not too worried about that. If they already have eyes then I'd have to say character development as I do photostories with my dolls I'd like to try and work them into my existing story line.

      • Cake Cake x 1
    27. Names! I have spent so long thinking of names and it kills me having a nameless doll

      • Cake Cake x 1
    28. A wig stopper!!!

      • Cake Cake x 1
    29. I think elastic, eyes and shoes. As for the rest I can do it.

      • Cake Cake x 1
    30. A body blush! I feel they are incomplete without a body blush regardless of the size - especially a manicure! They look so cute with nail polish!

      • Cake Cake x 1
    31. The perfect wig. It just drives me insane. After five different wigs for my MSD boy, it was like "you all need good wigs NOW" if I brought a new one home.

      • Cake Cake x 1
    32. Sealant, as an artistic person I really enjoy to process of giving my dolls face-ups

      • Cake Cake x 1
    33. When the doll first arrives blank I'll put placeholder eyes in him if I don't already have them ordered. No one's allowed to sit on my shelf with creepy empty eyeholes. Aside from that characters are mandatory for everyone, otherwise I'd have no reason not to buy every pretty piece of resin that caught my eye.

      • Cake Cake x 1
    34. They absolutely have to have the perfect eyes I envisioned, everything else is more or less flexible

      • Cake Cake x 1
    35. Properly *sized* eyes. I'm not super particular about the color -- I mean, the right color is nice, but my permanent WIP doll has had eyes that are a little too vivid for over a year and I'm not terribly bothered. It's the size that gets to me.

      • Cake Cake x 1
    36. A basic outfit. While their bodies are beautiful I still live at home and most people here are unaware of how realistic their bodies can be (I own a lot of realistic big guys) and I don't want to get into the "dolls with private parts" conversation. XD

      • Cake Cake x 1
    37. Definitely eyes and wig-- my dolls typically don't go without. Floating heads alwyas have eyes in, even if they're temporary (Except for my faceup/practice heads.). I have so many extra wigs and eyes laying about that Im usually okay having them in something temporary.
I also won't leave full dolls naked either-- so if I get a body or doll in, they will have clothes on them.

      • Cake Cake x 1
    38. Eyes, wig, one full outfit and a chacarter. :) soo a lot of things. lol

      • Cake Cake x 1
    39. I need ALL the things!!! But oddly, the first thing I bought for my first doll was SHOES!

The other was my first digital CAMERA (my phone camera was too primitive in those days).

    40. Wigs and clothes. Even if I haven't purchased items to fit their wardrobe or personality, I have a set of clothes just for them to wear so that "no one is naked and cold"!

      • Cake Cake x 1
    41. I'd count eyes, wig, and faceup as part of the doll itself, so the thing I can't do without for my dolls would be lots nad lots of clothes.

    42. A box or storage of some kind, I must keep them safe as I'm getting them together. Then the next thing would be eyes and a wig.

      • Cake Cake x 1
    43. Anti-static dryer sheets.

Most of my gang wear artificial mohair wigs, and those things are prone to static-charged fly-aways like nobody's business. Without a dryer sheet to smooth over the wig, kill the static and tame the fibers, I'd never get a single picture taken.
