Dec 29, 2017

    1. what an interesting chart i'm surprised luts is so popular tbh lol
my first doll is a loong soul and my second will be a myou, neither of them made the cut i guess haha

    2. Im new here, but just wanted to share too! My firs was MiniFee Woosoo really many years ago, when I still was a teen. It was amazing to have her, but because of financial problems, I was need to sell her ;c

    3. I'm glad I got a Maskcat as my first, they're amazing dolls and pose like a dream.

    4. My first doll came from Luts - a Kid Delf Hodoo :). It was during the time when there were few BJD companies and Luts was among the most popular out there (along with Volks and Dream of Doll).

    5. What interesting data charts! My very first doll was a DOT Camine from way back in 2006! And my second was a Delf Soo from Luts that same year. I still love the looks of Luts (and Fairyland), but with more options nowadays, I can finally get more anthro/fantasy and cartoony dolls! <3

    6. My first resin BJD that I bought was an Andrea from Gem, but the first one that came in was a Gem Windsor body and a secondhand DIM Flowne head!

    7. Interesting reeding, many of the company's on that list don't I know. My first doll was from Gem of doll ( Iris) , but she was not the first doll to arrive. she was though the first doll I payed for and what started my collection, I stil have her. :)

    8. I got Dollzone. Snow is just so pretty. There is this elegant and also sweet air about Snow that I really like. That also really match my OC so......

    9. This is such an interesting snapshot!! I purchased all of mine around 2009-10, well before this chart was compiled, and I remember the heavy hitters being Volks, Fairyland, Luts, DoD, and Soom. That holds up pretty well with the graph. I know DoD went defunct about a year prior to the list, so I can imagine it still caught a pretty good picture of how popular they were with first-timers. My first was a B&G, which I jumped on because of the relatively affordable price tag for a 60cm at the time, and I've only seen one or two of the same sculpt on DoA since then. I'd be so curious to see an updated chart of the last 5 years or so (maybe I give that a go on a free weekend )

    10. My fist doll I ordered was Dollzone Carter.
The first SD I ever bought was Dollzone Gray.

I'm more basic then I thought. :XD:

    11. My first doll was from Luts! I went into that purchase knowing I was being pretty basic by doing so, though!

    12. My first was a Happydoll Daisy, Happydoll are long gone now as is that doll, sold years ago. Interesting charts, be fascinating to see how today’s trends compare.

    13. mine was luts! given their price point and quality it makes sense to me to see them in such high proportion on the chart; imo it was a great choice for my first doll!

    14. My first doll was Impldoll Imara. I was fairly new to the purchasing scene so I went in blindly when I ordered her. She posed super well! After being in the BJD scene for a couple of years I realized I preferred males more, so she's no longer a part of my collection.

    15. My first dolls were Resinsoul Wu and Dollzone The Fairy.

    16. my first doll was my honeydelf madeleine from luts. also had looked at dollndoll and fairyland

    17. My first bjd and mostly all bjds were purchased second hand because I hate preordering. However my first bjd was from the atelier momoni pitusa line (sand momonita named Alma).

    18. The charts are an interesting timecapsule from a certain "moment" in the hobby. My first company/doll Angel Region was defunct long before. I bought my first BJD in 2004.

    19. Doll In Mind. I won him and it was some years before I actually bought a BJD. I collected other dolls. He was kept in his box for years.

    20. For me, it was a Dream of Doll Twing-key, an MSD. Unfortunately, I don't have her anymore, or any of my DODs...:doh

    21. My first was a Dollfie Dream Dynamite from Volks.

Why Volks? I wanted a Miku doll but at the time there were none available (except on the secondary market, which I knew nothing about at the time). I decided to go for a standard model, then buy her Miku Miku hair and turn her into Miku...

    22. Hey, same! My first doll was secondhand, because the company had gone under already (this was late 2011 I think?) but it was always going to be Angel Region. I had decided that way back around when you bought your first one from them. Mine was Ren. :)

The first doll I bought from the company (through Mint on Card, rest in peace,) was DollZone Raphael.

    23. It was Fairyland for me—Minifee Eva.

I'd admired BJDs for years, but didn't take the plunge until a couple years ago when I was randomly inspired by all of the Minifee content I was coming across on Etsy. I liked that they seemed to be a sort of mainstream, accessible option.
I spent weeks obsessing over which sculpt to get until I happened to stumble across a secondhand Eva and grabbed her!
I definitely paid too much for her since I was new to BJDs and also way too impatient to wait any longer lmfao. At least I didn't end up with a recast.

    24. How interesting! My first dolls were from Fairyland, Imomo, and Luts. Seeing the charts, looks like I’m not the only one!

    25. My first was a ResinSoul; I'm considering getting from a couple different companies outside of them that are still on the cheaper end - like Doll Leaves and Angel of Dream

    26. I got my first doll from Mirodoll in 2016! (Prior to the drama)

    27. From iplehouse first, then later on I ordered 2 or 3 from Alice Collection.

    28. I guess I had to start this hobby on intermediate mode :XD:

My first was from Souldoll - a Soulkid Katie.A

When I got my second, a Luts Kid Delf Bory girl, I remember thinking “maybe she should have been my first” because she felt more appropriate as a starter BJD.

I don’t mean the quality was less, rather that there had been far less quirks with the KDF than the Soulkid. She fit more standard sized MSD clothes and shoes better for instance, while my Soulkid girl needs Minifee sized shoes but doesn’t always fit MNF clothes. I also found that Luts sculpts are much easier to do face-ups with! Souldoll is definitely a challenge in this respect.

It’s interesting, albeit not surprising at all that Luts is way more common as a first doll company.

That said, I would have been curious to see what the answers would have been in 2008-2011. While Souldoll was never as common as a first BJD as Luts, Fairyland, Volks, etc. I definitely remember them being way more common as a first doll than the chart suggests. I think there used to be more first doll from Souldoll owners, at least in the USA, because you could get them from DDE. It was a lot less daunting to buy through them as a first doll purchase!

    29. My first doll was from Luts - A Kid Delf Bory that I put on layaway back in 2015

    30. Beginning my official BJD journey way back 2008, my first ever dorrie purchase is from Luts - a Kid Delf Hodoo.:3nodding:

    31. Mine's an Impldoll Avery! I fell in love with his charming smile and how it along with the scar across his face implied a fun, adventurous life. He remains my only boy.

    32. I have found this thread so interesting. Thank you for all the hard work. My first doll ordered was Paige from Iplehouse as I was heavily influence by Antique Lilac but she was not the first to arrive. That was a RaccoonDoll Bebe, Ellis who I called Ellie. I still have all my dolls and I love them all but I’ve now had to stop as I’ve run out of space

    33. It was a SD from Doll in mind. I bought him in late 2007 and got him in early 2008. A Galahad, that has never been popular. I think I've seen only one other Galahad than mine ^^' ( they must have been more, but their owners didn't show them). It wasn't really a good choice for a first BJD. His body was a nightmare to handle, and I hated his original faceup once I saw him in real. But I loved his strange features.
I don't own him anymore, I trade his head some years ago.

    34. My first doll(s) have come from none of the companies listed, although I see some are still quite large and popular today still. First non pet resin doll was Orion from Gem of Doll, first (or third?) dream valley dragons, and then dearmine is second. Most likely. And those are the only three companies I have purchased from at all at this point.

    35. My first was a Soom Teenie Gem limited edition sculpt, which is not the most budget-friendly, but very nice. I sometimes call her my 2014 tax refund. :)

    36. I bought Ade on Alice collections. He was a Gem of Doll style. First one I actually received though was Fairyland Lami in BW. I still have her and love her.

    37. New The first two dolls I ordered were from Raccoon Doll, Henry and Limited_Faceup Ivy. They are nearly complete and should be shipping soon. I also ordered Iplehouse FID Rex a couple days ago. I'm excited after weeks of preparation Henry & Ivy will be here soon!

    38. New My first doll is a Lillycat Ninon. And my next doll that I'm waiting on in a Lillycat Chibbi Moon. Probably my next doll will also be a Lillycat. x'D I think I'll need to revel in her artistry for a good while before I move on to anyone else.

    39. New That graph is so interesting!! I wonder what the results would be like if it was done again now, almost a decade later :O

As for me, the first BJD I ordered was a Ringdoll sculpt via Alice’s Collections (which is finally almost here), but the first one I physically had/have in my possession is from Angell Studio (if secondhand ones count, haha)!
