Hello all! I haven't yet posted really anything on here and I'm a major lurker. I like to do my research before doing things which is exactly why i want to ask a few questions first. Ok so i am sculpting a doll in the near future and I had planned on using La doll clay as it's really the only good sculpting medium my local store has. The only problem is I want this dolly to be in a flesh tone but i dont have the materials or the money to get her cast. What should I use to color her? I have herd of some people using MR Color but I am not sure where I would find that. I looked on amazon and they didn't have anything in a normal skin tone. Is La doll clay the best clay to use for this? Thanks ahead of time and if you have any other suggestions please feel free to suggest away!
It is often possible to mix in a bit of acrylic paint into paper clay to tint it. That might be an otion?
I wouldn't use LaDoll for a doll that's meant to be the final version, personally. It's a nice clay to work with and it's not -super- weak, but it's not a really durable material. Its surface can be painted, though, and probably should be as it's pretty porous and kinda "grainy" until you sand, paint, sand, paint, etc. to get it nice and smooth. If it's a doll that's mostly just going to sit and not be taken places, moved much, etc., then it might be okay, but I would go with something more durable like Apoxie Sculpt. It's about the closest you can get to "sculptable resin". It comes in white, peachy pink, dark brown, dark red, etc., so you can blend the colours if you want - or just paint it after.
