What are your dolls personalities?

Sep 17, 2022

    1. Let's imagine a toy story szenario. How would your doll act as a character?

      As an optional guide line:
      What are their likes/dislikes?
How happy are they with their outfits/faces?
What do they think about you?
If you have many dolls/which ones do they like and which don't?
What would be their catch phrase?

    2. I'll have a go for some of them, at least, I'm unlikely to go through all fifty-something of them. I don't really figure in their world though so what they think of me doesn't come into it.

Sera is the eldest sibling/cousin, and nominal guardian, of my Victorian family of SD-sized children.
She regards her role, as exasperatingly akin to herding cats, but is generally good natured, if a little overwhelmed, at times. She's petite (shorter and slimmer than some of her younger siblings, even in heels) but can be quite forceful and determined.

Phige is next, 14, one of the cousins and considers her life to be sad and tragic, depsite the fact that she's an indulged only child and the only one fo the cousins who isn't orphaned and being raised on a limited budget by an older sibling. She dresses in dark colours, favouring black, purple, and red.

Jean-Claude, at thirteen is the eldest boy. He believes himself to be the leader in al of their games and "adventures" although the others don't see it the same way. He's short for his age and resents the fact that Alphie, who is three years younger, is visibly taller than he is.

Edith is twelve. She's sweet, and good tempered, and she sees herself as arty and romantic. Her preferred mode oif artistic expression is dancing (even though she shows no talent for it). She also see's herself as a cirly girl, despite her hair having no natural curl whatsoever. She adores her fat, pampered cat.

Nesta, at age eleven falls firmly into the "snarky-older-sister" category. She's interested in fashion, and appearances and, as a result, she is the bane of Hannah's life.

Hannah, also eleven, is a scruffy tomboy, she's far rather be climbing trees and playing rough-and-tumble games with the boys than doing embroidery and obsessing over clothes with the girls. She prefers plain clothes, without frills and ruffles, in colours that don't show the dirt.

Cressida, aged ten, is Nesta's best friend. Sweet, quiet and loving, but more forceful than she seems, she has slid into the role of peacemaker between opinionated Nesta, and tomboy Hannah.

Alphie is also ten, tall for his age, he towers over Jean-Claude, is quiet and sweet. A thoughtful and friendly little chap, more of a follower than a leader.

Bobbin is nine, an average little boy, friendly and smiling. Willing to go along with whatewver games the others want to play.

Meri is also nine. She's one of those skinny, gangly girls, on the tall side, with long, thin limbs to go with her skinny frame. AShe has a likeable personality and fits in well with any group.

The twins, Elphie and Bracken are nine and while robust, rambunctious redheads they have a slight air of otherworldlyness to them - They can sometimes travel "between" and slip through into The Elfwoods, where their self-sufficient lives as part of a thriving forest-community are very different from the slightly impoverished middle-class Victorian childhood they live back home with the rest of the family.

Nettle is the eight-year-old cousin of the twins and hails from The Elfwood originally. She followed the twins home one day and just settled in among them as if she'd always been there. She's sweet, but her attitude tends toward the spolied-princess-only-child that her upbringing in The Elfwood accustomed her to.

Maudie is around seven, she's cheerful, chatty, and outgoing and everbody is her friend.

Arin, also seven, is a slim serious, deep-thinker of a child, with a sometimes wicked sense of humpour - It is he who convinced Nettle that she could never be a real princess unless she could pee through twelve mattresses (they never did find out how Nettle managed to move so many mattresses all by herself...).

Little Marina is around five or six, hapy and personable, if a bit shy, she's happy to join in with the older children's games, although she doesn't always understand what they're talking about, or even what game it is theyre playing.

More twins, Charlie and Lottie are/were younger members of the family, but seem to have faded out of the awareness of the other children in recent years - perhaps it's that they're more of The Elfwood than their older siblings/cousins so their presence is less obvious. Nothing really stands out about them except for Lottie's unshakeable fondness for pink.

Raphael is the youngest of the family, she's around four and small for her age. She's also of The Elfwood, thoough shows no signs of being aware of it. She's a cheery and mischievous little thing, but she spends more time with her friend, Claudia, from next door, where they make pests of themselves round Claudia's big brother, Ikarus.

That's my main group of dolls - I haven't the energy to go through any of the others who are all from different periods and places.

    3. Ooh let's see who we've got...

Ara: Cheerful, adventurous, and energetic. Does he have a massive gash on his face from his own shenanigans? Yes. Has he decided to knock it off with said shenanigans? Goodness, no. Where's the fun in that? He considers himself a charmer, though he also enjoys goofing around with his sister and cousins and sometimes gets in their hair.

Nova: Ara's bestie and voice of reason. Understated and sweet. Her immediate family is big and busy, and so running around with her friend is a breath of fresh air. Rather sentimental.

Tian Ni: Bit of a Mean Girl type, though she's not an outright bully. She's got the sharp wit in contrast to Ara's goofy teasing. Loves to dress well and look good, with a distinct love of pastel pinks, blues, and minty greens. Been slowly getting more accepting of her own appearance. Takes her work seriously, though, don't write her off for the frills. Best friends with Ara's cousin on the other side of the family, Monday; together, they're a fun prep + emo/goth duo.

Suha: The overshadowed younger sister; it's even in the name. She's figuring herself out. Unlike Ara and Tian Ni, whose futures are set by birth, it's up to her to decide what she wants to do. Which is a lot of possibility, and very overwhelming. Trying to strike out a bit, but hasn't strayed too super far.

Beryl: Suha's girlfriend, apparently. Her backstory is that she's an android escaped from her creator; why, though, or who her creator is, remains unknown. Even she doesn't seem to remember. Anxious and on-edge most of the time. Keeps to herself and tries to stay out of trouble, though she's pretty protective of Suha.

Unnamed Gal: Still vague; see lack of a name. So far, somewhere around like, cool and perhaps a little distant, serious, but I think there's a touch of like, Instagram influencer in there. Very big on the aesthetic, especially the like, cozy, dreamy look.

    4. Silent and prone to long periods of absolute stillness.
Some might call them cold and unfeeling, or just unresponsive.

Me? I call them "inanimate".

(Okay, okay. I know what you mean. You're curious about the characters rather than the resin... I'm just being a snarktopus... But it really is funny to me just how easy it is to anthropomorphize these little resin minions of ours. They seem to have an unusual amount of "personality" to them, rather we're the sort of collectors who see them as simple objects or as something more animistic. The anthropologist in me is fascinated by that.)

    5. Oh I love this question!

      HANA
Hana is a leader, she's outgoing, and the type of person who's very used to getting her way. She can be impatient, and she isn't the type of person who's going to put up with anyone else's crap. Though she can be a bit icy when it comes to new people (and has a very exclusive "inner circle', she doesn't tolerate bullies and generally has no issue standing up for people in less powerful positions than her. Dance is her life, and she can have quite a bit of tunnel vision about it.

      ARLO
Arlo, he's just doing his best. He's gone through a lot of his life with his head in the clouds- lot's of "what if", which really is just part of the nature of being a transracial adoptee. He's used to having to assimilate, he tries to blend in and not make waves, even though with his family being who they are, it's a bit impossible for him. He's definitely a caretaker, it's in his nature to make sure everyone around him is okay. He does not deal well with conflict - so being best friends with Hana can be challenging because she doesn't let him sit in that comfort. Can be a bit brooding at times.

      ORLA
Orla is often a voice of reason. She's been in a 'mom' role to her younger sister's since she was a teenager, and has a really strong sense of responsibility, and right from wrong. She tends to see things in a more black and white nature, rather than giving people the space to be grey in her own personal life, which is a bit ironic seeing as she moonlight's as a tarot reader and see's first hand the nuances of the universe and people on a daily basis. She is a very social creature, when she has the time, and while she doesn't come from the easiest background, she incredibly optimistic.

      OLIVE
Olive is the youngest of my gang (just coming up on 18) and she's very much still figuring it out. She has gone through most of her life trying to be the 'golden child' - great grades, doing all the extracurriculars her parents wanted her too. But she lives with a lot of anxiety and fears. Music is the thing that brings her the most peace, and the one thing that really makes her feel confident.

    6. Oh I have so many dolls :XD: it would be terrible for other people for me to describe them all. Maybe you might find it interesting to hear about
character elements I fall into repeatedly:

      Kindhearted gentle introverts
Extroversion as a mildly evil/frightening characteristic
      Caretaker personalities
      Happy thriving children
Patience as a virtue, strength and flexibility, resilience
Loners, sadness, fearfulness (in minority but important to me to represent)

I think my dolls as characters acknowledge my own private mental and emotional world while also trying to represent a world I actually want to live in. Thusly: I imagine they are not too unhappy with me, and they remind me when they need more attention. They feel happy and loved when I take time to do things with them but they don't need me, they have each other. I don't specifically imagine negative relationships between them though some of them have more negative personality traits that will affect their relationships. I focus on creating groups of friends, best friends or lovers instead.
My dolls characters don't exist within any kind of linear narrative so they don't need conflict, and I will therefore not have it with them :XD:

    8. I have 17 dolls so I'll keep this short, but you can read more on my doll profiles on my profile page if you're curious! My dolls' characters are my roleplay characters, not seen as doll characters, so what they think of what I do with them or me in general is irrelevant.

Opaline: playful, a prankster, never takes anything seriously. She is a phlebotomist and bass player. She likes creepy dolls and oddities and has a pet hairless rat. She is in a band with Brendan and Cooper.

Pepper: outgoing, goofy, cheerful and ridiculous. She is in school to be a kindergarten teacher, currently working with children with behavioral and emotional problems. She is a gamer and skater. She is closest to Elsa and annoys Brendan.

Elsa: quiet, reserved, mature. She is a barista in a cafe and a ballet dancer. She enjoys music and art. She is Amir's niece.

Sally: adventurous, laid back, blunt. She works at a doggie daycare and is in school for business and animal care and plans to opeen her own doggy resort one day. She likes outdoor activities. She is Charlotte's roommate, Johnny's sister and Brendan and Jamie's cousin.

Charlotte: creative, sultry and a little bit mischievous. Is a tattoo artist. She loves makeup and going to concerts. She is Sally's roommate.

Harriet: snarky, sarcastic, can come across as mean. Works in a clothing design shop doing basics/errands. She likes collecting random weird things and exploring abandoned places. She is Cooper's close friend. She does not like Lily because she finds her "too emo, too hyper".

Bambi: too friendly, upbeat and ditzy. She works at a local theatre and is a bass player for a metal band. She likes hanging with friends and going out. She is in a band with Jamie and friends with Charlie. (ordered, not home)

Lily: hyper, enthusiastic, sometimes insecure. She works at Hot Topic. She likes drawing and going to the mall. She is Cooper's sister. She wants to be Harriet's friend and doesn't understand why Harriet doesn't like her.

Cooper: sweet, affectionate, but a little bit naughty. He is a bartender. He loves music and travel. He is Lily's brother, casually dating Brendan, good friends with Adam, Nate and Harriet, and in a band with Brendan and Opaline.

Brendan: larger than life, trouble, protective of friends. He is a pro skater and stuntman. He likes doing stupid stuff for attention and parties. He is Jamie's brother, Johnny and Sally's cousin, in a band with Opaline and Cooper and another band with Charlie and Vic, dating Cooper, Adam's "hetero-life partner" and close with Nate. He is annoyed by Pepper.

Adam: loyal, bit of a leader, caretaker. He works at a skate park. He likes getting drinks with friends and getting dirty. He is Brendan's "hetero-lifepartner", and very close friends with Cooper and Nate.

Nate: dumb as a brick, always positive, likes making people laugh. He works at a movie theater. He likes riding fourwheelers and dirt biking. He is very close friends with Brendan, Adam, and Cooper.

Johnny: joker, kindhearted, strong. He is a firefighter. He likes joking around with friends and playing on the farm. He is Sally's brother, Brendan and Jamie's cousin, and close friends with Charlie and Vic.

Jamie: chill, easy to get along with, takes charge when he has to. He is a programmer and drummer. He likes playing with his kids and time with his wife and friends. He is Brendan's brother, Johnny and Sally's cousin and close friends with Charlie and Vic. He's in a band with Bambi.

Charlie: immature, inappropriate, uses too many pop culture references. He is a pizza guy and frontman of a rap/rock band. He likes racing and video games. He is best friends with Vic and very close to Johnny, Jamie and Brendan, and friends with Bambi. He had a crush on Pepper but has since gotten over it. He's in a band with Brendan and Vic.

Vic: shy, determined, gentle. He works in a cabinet factory and is a guitarist, but has dreams of becoming an addiction counselor. He likes skating and taking long relaxing walks. He is best friends with Charlie and very close with Johnny and Jamie. He's in a band with Charlie and Brendan.

Amir: artistic, devoted, confident. He owns a coffee shop and hookah lounge. He likes painting and time with his family. He is Elsa's uncle.

    9. I have (currently) 75 dolls. Going through all of them would be a giant TL;DR for people (and rightfully so). They're alaos all characters from the novels I write so there's a good bit of background for all of them. But some of the highlights would be....

Moswen: My first and still favourite. He's a genius but he does dumb things sort of on the regular because he doesn't always think things through all the way. He's incredibly loyal and loving and his family means everything to him. He's also go the most bizarre karma in the known universes and it tends to eventually rub off at least a little on the people closest to him. Moswen has some cultural negatives because of a genetic twist he has but he shrugs it off because his family loves him and that's all that matters to him. He is Awh'anise and a Shal-hazal Spirit. Balancing Karma is the novel.

Quinlin: He was crowned pissy b*tch of the universe from day one. He has a permanent scowl and is generally one of those rough personality type people. If he calls you a friend (and that's a big if), he will not only help you move, he'll help you move a body, bring his own shovel and back up whatever alibi you concoct with absolute conviction. Quin was born blind but doesn't let that hold him back from doing everything he can to live his best life. He's a studio musician. Blind Desire is the novel.

Haniel: My little fashion disaster. Ever wonder what brown corduroy pants, a 2-tone blue bowling shirt, acid green running shoes (that light up when you walk) and a dark purple velvet top hat with a day-glo orange feather in the brim looks like when worn together? Haniel has that covered. He wears what he likes without thought about whether the colours/fabrics/patterns go together or not. Did I mention that he's got baby pink hair and he's a demon? He's a happy-go-lucky personality with a really, really strong protective streak. He hates bullies and tends to eat them (he is a demon). Quinlin is one of his parents. He's in assorted short stories in the Big Mystic Smoke World.

Ondraeden: Emotionally handicapped because he hasn't had a lot of interaction with others due to the fact that he's the Elder God of Fear & Nightmares. Everything fears him to some degree (including the other gods) because he is fear itself and all fear originates/emanates from him. The only one that doesn't is Valerian, his husband, but there's a special reason for that. Ondraeden is arrogant, egotistical and high-handed (he is a god) while also being sweet, kinda dorky at times and thoughtful. Metamorphosis and The Dire Heart are the novels.
