Sewing What are you currently sewing for your BJD Vol 14

Dec 15, 2020

    1. Adorable , both! @Cryptid Love the detailed hand stitching on the jeans and fine little buttons and lace on her dress, and the flannel is :cheer

    2. I feel like I post here too much :sweat But I learned the theme for the meetup I want to attend, and realized that I didn't have anything to fit that theme, so I've been sewing my butt off the last few days to get something together. I'm pleasantly surprised by how well it turned out. Here, have my 10 piece monstrosity that I completed in 3 days. Leggings, top, waistband, jacket, hat, "boots," scarf, and wrist ties.

The jacket and boots are beaded, and the top has little jingle bells :cheer

    7. It's been a minute since I've had time to sew for dolls but I sat down and made Asa some lingerie today :)

    8. Thank you @Lillith !

I guess I've gotten back on a sewing track? I made a short yukata today (I wish it was long! But the piece of fabric was too small for that...). I'm still figuring out the obi so it has a more lolita-like styling for now to keep it closed :sweat the pattern is from undead threads.

    9. I finally finished this Christmassy dress for Milly. It involved a lot of new (to me) techniques like lining a sleeved bodice and making plackets. The pattern was adapted from two different Otome no Sewing dresses.

Next time - there will definitely be a next time, because I love this style of dress! - I want to use a thicker fabric for the yoke. This version has a yoke made of sheer voile and you can see the seam allowance through it. The frills around the yoke could also be finer and more even. Still, I'm happy with the finished dress, which isn't bad by any means.

    10. This is so pretty! Not the easiest fabric to work with but it's come out great

    11. @wakakusa That's a great dress! She looks so pretty in it.
Another option for the voile is to add some fusible interfacing to it. That way you can avoid the extra bulk in the seam allowances that a thicker fabric would cause.

    12. My SDM isn't even here yet and I'm already sewing things for her :sweat

A little dress and apron set with the patterns in the Volks sewing book. The apron is actually based on the design of the SD one rather than using the MSD pattern because I preferred the pintuck details. I also improvised with the closure and made tapes from the same fabric to tie it rather than snaps. The fabric of the dress is leftover from the Elizabeth OP I made the other month, and the apron fabric is scraps leftover from some cushion covers I made a few years ago. I want to make a matching bonnet too but I think I'll wait until she's here so I can make sure it fits properly.

Maddie has inspected her new little sister's dress and we are excited for her arrival! Hopefully if shipping times are good she'll arrive before Christmas.

    13. Lovely work. I hope it fits when she gets here. I just got 2 SDMs this year and have found the older MSD sized patterns can be a little big but I haven't tried any of the ones from the Volks books on them yet. I've been working with vintage patterns from old Dolly Dolly and Dollybird magazines.

    14. Still on this outfit (and on four others). I sewed the hakama skirt, but I definitely didn't understand how to iron it yet.

    15. So I've put together a dress with full lining. The tutorial I'm following, for human sized clothes, recommends aligning the darts/seams of the layers, and stitching in the ditch to secure them in place.

Is this necessary for doll clothes or can I leave the lining loose? I want to make this dress to a high quality, but this seems like a lot of extra fiddly work :sweat

    16. I've been winging a pattern and mockup for a tunic for one of my dolls, which I decided to make into an even more complicated test than it needs to be by deciding to hand sew it in the evenings before bed, instead of using my machine to sew it >< And I've got all the pieces cut and edges finished one a pair of pants for different boy.

    17. I bought a Dividing Line BJD for a granddaughter for Christmas, and made an anime inspired outfit for her....

    18. She's so cute @MB Lilac ! The little bows on the edge of the apron are an excellent choice, I might steal the idea :sweat I'm sure your granddaughter will love her :)

    19. Thanks! The bows on the apron are silk ribbon, since it's the only ribbon that will make such tiny bows.

    20. What's everyone's Sewing plans for 2025?
I'm waiting for a body to ship ATM, but I hope to make a 5 piece summer capsule wardrobe for it once she arrives.

    21. There's a pattern in Gothic&Lolita Bible 22 for an Angelic Pretty dress in human and Dollfie size, so I want to make a matching set for me and Maddie in red polka dot.[IMG]
Other than that, I've got a few fabrics in my stash that I should use to make simple skirts and dresses. I'm also toying with making some old-timey nightgowns for my girls.

    22. I was expecting this sailor set come out a lot better (good thing there is a collar covering the bodice :abambi:) but it's done and that's all that counts.

    23. First thing I’ve sewn in almost a decade. I still have to hem the bottom but I’m proud of it!

    24. @Pen-Pen, nice job & they're gorgeous!

@Violet Kidd, I love all the shifts on stripe directions. Great size proportions for the dress style.

@cobaltconduct , its still a super cute set!

    25. I made my newest girl (Asleep Eidolon Kiir) her first new dress of her own. No more sharing with the other mature tinies! :dance
I hope to be able to use this as an under dress with a skirt and bodice, but for now it works as it is.

    26. Got a basic shirt and shorts made for Polaris last night; now she's at least not sitting around naked anymore, even if the stitching in some parts is a little wonky. Still figuring out how to best size these patterns, as the base size seems a little big on her. Next major sewing project for her: making a tail.

    28. I just got a Minifee so of course all the MSD clothes I have don’t fit him so I whipped up this pair of leggings real quick so he wouldn’t be naked. The shirt is a mesh see through type of material I made probably a decade ago.

second pair of pants done! (Besides the waistband)

And first pair of shorts. Now I’m done. :sweat

    29. I've been working on a pajama set for my 1/4 scale girl! I'm almost done with the shirt, but I think I need to take in the pants a little more. They're a liiiiittle bit baggier than I want them to be.

Beyond that, I have lots of plans for her wardrobe! This little lady is going to keep me very busy when it comes to crafting, I expect. :)

    30. @issniovg Oh how cute! I love it when people make PJs for their dolls. Makes them feel more like real little people. :)

    31. Thank you! One of the first things I made for one of my off-topic dolls was a little housecoat, so it felt a bit like continuing a tradition.
