Sewing What are you currently sewing for your BJD Vol 13

Feb 8, 2018

    1. For a long time I have been searching for fabric with a super super tiny butterfly design. Could’t find any and then decided to try printing on fabric.

I had an old white cotton sheet to use for the prints and for the back of the cushions I wanted to make. Found a butterfly picture on the internet pasted it 4 times in a Word file and then printed it on cotton fabric.

Now I could make some good to scale cushions for the new benches. After that I maybe making a softer seating also. Not sure though. Well, I am happy with the result so far so just have to turn the 3 other cushions, fill them up and close the last seam.

    2. Those butterflies look terrific, Lelycat, but how did you get the fabric to go through your printer?

    3. You can purchase fabric prepared to go through a printer from quilting supplies or you can use fabric ready for dye and iron it to freezer paper and run it through.

    4. Hi @El BJD this is how I did it:

I took an old white pure cotton bed sheet and cut a piece the size of my printer sheet 80 grams.
Then I applied glue on the paper with spray glue.

Now I placed the cotton fabric on the sheet and flattened it with my hands so that there are no bubbles, creases etc.

Along the top of the sheet with the cotton you apply a piece of masking painter’s tape ( about width 1 cm) – half on one side and other half on the back side. This is to let the paper and cotton go smoothly through the printer!

Then when printed take the cotton from the sheet of paper and you are ready to go!

It is great to make clothes for tiny dolls also cause now you can print real small designs.
( I am Dutch so I hope it is a bit clear in my poor English )

    9. Apparently it's time for another reminder for this thread:

This thread is for sharing outfits you are making for your own dolls. Not outfits you are making for sale or for a commission, or that are for sale in the MP or on an offsite venue. Such posts will be removed as found.

    10. @Anita2006 Your underskirt is so pretty, it could be an overskirt for another outfit! Great job!

    11. I just made a turtleneck (probably closer to a cowl) and pants kind of like jodhpurs for my Dollshe Arsene/Dollstown 17yrs boy hybrid Secernere. I used a neoprene-like fabric ("spacer") for the pants and some black thin tissue jersey with a metallic thread for the cowl/turtleneck. There are 3 darts on either side of the center crotch seam on the pants for a total of 12 (6 in front and 6 in back).

Old fashioned jodhpurs are a great way to give the illusion of curves, and I love how it makes dolls slightly pear shaped!

      I think I need suspenders.

    12. I'm re-sizing a doll dress I purchased at Cath Kidston last Friday! It has a really cute bluebell pattern, so I couldn't resist. :D I'm going to make a ribbon belt and maybe add some lace sleeves for a retro look.
It's for my new (and first, hehe) MSD, Myou Delia. I'll add a picture later. :)

    13. My Bianca's gown is coming along nicely. The dress itself (which has the shorter skirt) will have an underskirt for when she wants to be less formal. The longer underskirt will have a petticoat to help give it some fullness. And I'm making hanging sleeves out of the leftover sari fabric, for when she wants to be a 'fairy princess'.....

    14. Oh my goodness, that is absolutely gorgeous! I love how you made it possible to be casual and formal. I look forward to seeing the hanging sleeves!

    15. Wow @MB Lilac another stunning dress with multiple uses. She looks amazing.

    16. I finished altering Aika's dress the other day, and I'm pretty happy with how it looks. It has a kind of late-50's - early-60's vibe, to me, which is what I was going for, to match her story!
The dress was from Cath Kidston, and made smaller in the bodice side seams by an inch on both sides. The length and boat neck-line were just right. The belt is made from broderie anglaise lace and a pink satin ribbon.
Next I'm thinking of making some stockings.

    17. I love the floral print, it gives a nice spring time vibe!

This gown is amazing! I hope the fabric was already embroidered and beaded. You always make well fitting, detailed garments and I admire your skills.

    18. Yes, it was a small sari, and all the edges were already embroidered and beaded. But I did have to embroider the front of her bodice to match, and I beaded several of the edges. I finally finished the hanging sleeves yesterday....

    19. Wow, not only is she exquisite, the background setting is so perfect that I am definitely transported to another time and place. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.

    20. I love antique lilac! Right now I am making a Chinese styled gothic ball gown using red satin with tiny black flowers in the pattern, a full hoopskirt of red cause and black tulle, with metallic red french silk tissue for shoulder wrap and cloak, a hand beaded velvet panel for the corset front. So far that's it, because I am waiting for the gimp.

    21. Thanks! I created a little room setting on the floor in front of my dining room china cabinet, in order to take her photos...

    27. Nice combination of fabrics and trims Lelycat!

    28. Great outfit! I love the scale of the hat/fascinator.

    29. I am working on a jacket and pants since my newest doll hasn't got any clothes to wear because she is my first 1/3 girl in a long time. I got these Creature Conservation iron-on patches that were coincidentally a great size for a doll jacket.

No buttons for the front yet. I need to order some snaps. I kind of want metal snaps, but I am really tempted by KAMsnaps' color variety for plastic snaps...... or more the fact they sell buttons with unicorns tipped me over lol.

    30. I've used Kamsnaps for AG dolls but never tried them for bjd's, nowI'm going over to their site to look. Great jacket and pants, and I love that patch.

    31. Thank you @cthulhu

Thank you, it was nice to make from a normal size hat I crocheted before for 1/12 dolls.

    35. they look so cute, im still need to find time to make something, and finish one project as well :-)

    36. Awwww! Love these. Perfect little tiny prints... And I wish I could get my hands on trim & lace like that!

    37. Lol from one extreme to the other.

The very first "proper" (as in intended to keep - not just use for a quick photoset) sewing project I attempted for my BJDs was... A replica of a certain Union Jack monstrosity of an Alexander McQueen frock-coat. Complete with lack of closures and oversized safety-pin, since the original Rococco pattern didn't allow it to shut, and Bowie seemed to favour giant safety pins to hold it in place.

Talk about jumping straight into the deep-end. Lol - if I ever work up that sort of momentum again, I'm going to redo this one at some point. Since I definitely didn't manage to get a thin enough fabric to reinforce the incredibly delicate union-jack fabric I used for the outer. Whilst the pattern I came up with seems fine, the coat is just too bulky to hang properly.

      My next (second) project?

...A sock jumper. Or at least it will be when they actually show up. ...No this project definitely wasn't born out of some misguided attempt to save cash, the two pairs of socks that will be dissected for this project are rather expensive at $16 a pair! However... They've got the perfect grungy, poorly dyed/customised aesthetic for one of my dolls. An aesthetic that should look similar to the hideously holey customised top that Harley Quinn "chose" to sport in that awful Suicide Squad film... Only warmer looking.

    38. What a clever idea, I would never have thought of doing that. Sometimes it's difficult to find a fabric for a normal size project you have in mind, let alone a fabric with tiny print suitable for mini dolls.

This is stunning Martha, I love the colour and the beautiful border details. :love

Here is my latest creation for my Miss Fifi Muffet. :)

    39. You can buy packages of prepared fabric that will go through a printer from Amazon and Jo-Ann Fabrics, just to name a few vendors. Search by "printer fabric".:)

    40. You can also purchase the materials to make your own prepared fabric that won't bleed. You use regular cotton and a preparation medium, then fix the fabric to freezer paper to print it, let it dry, and treat it with the second part that fixes the ink to the fabric. The brand I've used in the past is called "Bubble Jet Set."

    41. hmmmm, print on fabric with printer? interesting idea, but i will stay on charity shops to looking interesting fabric for my projects. as im to lazy even to finish my two not finished projects. still have time till other doll will arrive :-)

i did not made a dress but i made patterns from this dress as its from porcelain doll :-) will see how it will work for my project :-)

    42. I've got one dress that's still in two pieces that I should be finishing, but instead I've been experimenting with different ways to gather a specific fabric I have to see what kinds of styles I can get from it. It's not really a fabric that's good for doll scale stuff, but it's so pretty that I'm determined to make it cooperate.

    43. I'm working on repurposing another old doll dress for my BJDs. I made the original for an old porcelain repro doll that was roughly the same size as my JID. So far I've finished reworking the skirts - all it took was picking off the old waistbands and sewing on new ones.
Now comes the harder part - the bodice and jacket. I've picked apart the entire old top, and managed to fit the new pattern pieces out of it. Right now, for modestly, she's just wearing the first test bodice, which I've marked all the changes onto....

    44. very impressive :-) will wait end of project :-)

    45. Hot off the press. I was itching to try an old sewing pattern I found from a vintage pattern making book.
Breeches for Dollshe David. I have some finishing to do but they are mostly finished. The only alteration the pattern needed was take in at the waist. I used the thigh width at the crotch (of a pair of pants that fit well) to size the pattern He can sit and bend his knees.

    47. I'm trying my first trousers. Tiny dolls (11cm) are hell to sew for *_*

    48. They certainly are! Best of luck with that!

    49. I'm better at starting projects than finishing them... I'm working on a dress and I might have over-complicated it for myself :sweat

Hopefully I'll be able to show the end result soon!

    51. Little birthday party dress and leggings for my first BJD, Iple Bono (no name yet!), received yesterday. Excuse the messy work desk photo (also my first BJD photo!) I crocheted the little bag years ago. Dress and leggings from @MB Lilac's patterns (thanks again!).

    52. I'm making a "welcome home"-outfit for my latest arrival Mike (SID Model Omar). He's currently sitting on my ironing board and the cats are extremely sceptical about this new flatmate ...

    53.
Usually mine don't care when I bring dolls to the living room ... except back when my first one arrived. :kitty2 I don't usually let the cats near the dolls, knowing Mr. Fuzzy he'd eat their wigs or something, or chew on the resin and poison himself. They're not the smartest cats in the world :eusa_sile
