Sewing What are you currently sewing for your BJD Vol 12

Mar 27, 2016

    1. I made a skirt for my girl Fae! It was my first time trying machine gathering, and I think it turned out pretty good if I do say so myself!
[IMG]Day 3: 7 by Catt Law, on Flickr

I then found she looked too bare whilst I worked on the bodice, so I made her a little undershirt.

    2. Good job!

    3. Well done!

    4. It looks really nice, @Suri_boots ! My first time with machine gathering was an unmitigated disaster, so well done, you! :)

    5. Thank you everyone XD Oh jeez though, I'm the first post OwO

    6. Im trying onto a high waist skirt, it seems skirts are my favourite clothes, i wish i can do some large like this one.

    7. I just made mine a first pair of pants-- now I am working on patterning out a vest =^)
Hopefully I can find a nice dress shirt pattern as well to go with it.

Your skirt looks wonderful-- the gathering turned out very nice. :cake:

    8. Everybody's creations are so inspiring. I'm going to get back into sewing myself soon. I can't wait to share what I make. I am not a professional but its always nice to get feedback.

    9. I made a little black dress for my new Iplehouse Lahela over the week end. I hope to make her a long full skirt out of a bold African print fabric next weekend. The fabric is a black and white design called bogolanfini, it has masks and geometric patterns on it. I hope the pattern isn't too big for a doll.

    10. Nearly finished with Sanjay's sherwani jacket. Whew!!

Please excuse the mess in the background.

    11. He looks so smart in it. Well done.

    12. I love the work you've done with matching up the fabric, it looks really good!

    13. Wow! wow! wow! that is fantastic! Well worth the effort of matching the pattern. He looks so regal.

    14. Thank you!

Thank you! I'm really pleased with it! There were quite a few anxious moments worrying about cutting it wrong.

Thank you so much!! I'm so proud of it and I agree, he looks very regal - as a young prince should :)

    15. I bow to your elite pattern matching skillz.

    16. Here's Calli in my latest sewing project for her. She wanted something new to wear to an anime con we'll be going to in a few months.

    17. @Myths and Magic very nice kimono, love the obi!
      @maranwe Those look great!
I've been slowly working on the fitted upholstery for a new loveseat. Now I have to tack it all down. Household preparations:| for summer got in the way of dolly stuff.

    18. @SteamWitch
Thank you. Calli really liked the fabric when she'd seen it in my scraps.

    19. Pants!! I've finally made pants that don't look like they were crafted by a drunken monkey!! In the interest of full disclosure, I will admit that the front doesn't exactly close (damn resin dolly peen) but they stay up (yay, stretch denim) and all of my boys' shirts are on the long side anyway, so sewing win!!
      [IMG][IMG]
Link to the awesome pattern I used (with some modification, naturally)

    20. I'm currently missing 2 of my 3 doll's heads, but that ain't stoppin me from sewing >:l

All my bought clothes for this girl were pretty colorful, so I badly needed more black to her wardrobe, as its her main color :3 I still have stuff to sew, but this is a start!

    21. My fear with spandex for my own dolls is that it's going to look too "Halloween costume-y" or 1980s aerobics rather than an actual outfit, so I almost always go for the stretchy knit. ^^; But I'm also a neurotic mess!

I also tend to be sewing for much bigger boys, so I know that the drape is going to be different on a doll that size, even for a skin-tight suit.

    22. Ah, knit would also be more concealing of knobby joints too. 1980s aerobics brought that home quickly.

    23. Made my girl this dress today. I had the bodice planned out, but ended up winging the waist and skirt.

    24. Thank you! I feel like my sewing skills are sub-par, so its always nice to hear that i' doing better then I might realize!

    25. Very pretty!!

    26. Very pretty, nice small floral fabrics like that are hard to find.

    27. I just finished a shirt for my Senior65 Delf boy. This is a prototype for future shirts, and it needs some improvements (a little longer, some changes to the collar) but I'm very pleased with it for a first 1/3 shirt try!

... Yeah it's also bright neon orange because that's what I had the most of. LOL

    28. @BlackSheep I'm impressed with your t-shirt especially the collar. I know how challenging collars can be, but you made it look neat.
I made this stressed out denim mc jacket.., Collars for an MSD are a lot more difficult than I hoped, this is my first try so I hope to get better with more practice.

    29. @Serdtse Thank you, and also wow! That jacket looks amazing! *^* I tried to make something similar out of pleather before and it... did not go well LOL

    30. @BlackSheep Thank you so much. I wanted to practice on some scrap denim fabric before I tried a leather one.

    31. Made a corset and some skirts for my beautiful lady:

First time attempting a corset, it has no boning but i figured it wouldn't matter since it's on a doll. I did manage to give my finger a pretty nasty gash while working on it though, since I'm dumb and clumsy with scissors

    32. Meta: what sculpt is she? She is stunning and her outfit too.

    33. I finished a new outfit for my girl, Olivia. :D Everything is 100% handsewn, and I made all her jewelry and hair accessories as well. :3
      [IMG]

And here's a shot of the bloomers and socks~

    34. Thank you! She is a Resinsoul (or is it Bobobie? The two get me confused) Sophia

    35. Whooow!! :D There is so much good clothes! Everything is soo awesome!! I loved the flowered dress and jacket.

This weekend I dedicated myself to make pants to Emma, still I have to put some buttons at the ankles to close.

    37. Made a new dress for Aurora out of a sweater sleeve! Hand-sewn, because my sewing machine reverse lever should arrive tomorrow :P

      Please don't mind her obvious need for a new faceup ^^;

    38. I started making my new child a little cape shawl.

I still have quite a bit to finish...mainly the cape edging where it's pinned, and the ear holes =^)

Just doing some hand sewing here, as I'm not 100% great making tiny things with a sewing machine yet...that and it's relaxing!

      edit:
Updated with more images. I did some more of the edging this morning.

    39. Wow! Such awesome work here! @Meip , that outfit is gorgeous.

I made a skirt for Pippa and Peaches to share:

Durango got a pirate shirt (from a sock - not sure if I've shown it yet. Not awesome, but I'm learning. Also, note to self: toddler socks are a bit small for MSD shirts.) He also got breeches for the style of dress I'm coming up with for the guys in the children's novel cooking in my head. I made a hat with leftover sock, LOL!

And Kiki got a sweater. I loathed hand-sewing until this project. Now I want to do more!! Some of this was by machine, but I had to hand-sew the neck binding on, and I FINALLY figured out backstitch (I know, lame LOL!) I like this better than the super-wide neckline I made for Pippa's jammy top some time ago, but it's too small for my liking. I need to strike a happy medium.

    42. Those collars ... ! :aeyepop:

is there a tutorial for collars anywhere? Could you be persuaded to post one ... ?

    43. Very nice shirts! Do you find you ever need interfacing on MSD sized?

ETA: For collared shirts, that is

    44. I finished my straight jacket that I started 2 years ago. I love the dark brown leather straps against the tea dye job. Not professional but its finished. Also made bloomer bottoms, pants, and a hat. I hate sewing on snaps.

    45. Thank you for the nice comments regarding my boy shirts :)

I used a tutorial I found online. I first saw it about a year ago - don't recall where. Might have been on Pinterest.

I do not use fusible interfacing when I make bjd clothes. I think it makes the fabric too stiff.

    46. I'm almost done with a new sweater for Mori, it just needs some more snaps in the back.

    47. very nice. is that lace-lined or a print?

    48. Thanks:)
My boy loves his retro bowler shirts:cool:

    49. I'm trying to figure out the best top option for my girl. Nothing I've tried seems to feel right, so I'm still playing around with that!

    50. Thank you! It's a lace print on a stretchy, soft fabric ^^

    51. Well, good luck with buttons :) Sewing buttons is my least favorite part too. That is why I sew only clothes that do not need buttons

      • x 1
    52. I'm OK with buttons but buttonholes are my least favourite part - but button loops and false buttons over hooks or press-studs works fine in a lot of instances, so I often get around the need for making buttonholes.

    53. Are press-studs the same as snaps you have to set? (as oppose to sew on, each half has 2 parts that you have to press together through the fabric) I love those and use them instead of buttons for all my human-sized clothes, because I hate making buttonholes with a deep and fiery passion. Do they make them in doll size?

    54. http://www.concordextra.com/img_uploads/sewing-box-24-press-studs.jpg

The ones I use are the sew-on type. It would be nice if the ones you set with a tool were available in doll size (I think perhaps they are but I've never looked into it, and I don't know how much the setting tool would be)
