      I’m back, everyone! Did you miss me? Truffle the Dog, your Master of Ceremonies!

      It’s August again, and you know what that means, don’t you? Den of Angels’ anniversary time! Seven years! This forum has been here seven years now. It gets bigger and bigger, with lots of new members, new dolls, new ideas, and new friends. That seems like a reason to celebrate to me!

      (Also, my birthday is in August. I’ll be three this year! That’s even more reason to celebrate! Bring on the puppy biscuits!)

      This year’s theme is “Me and My Shadow.” That’s sort of what dolls are, sort of little shadows of your personalities and your ideas. This year I’d like to introduce my “shadow,” my brother Farinelli. He came to live with us last year when we rescued him from a bad place, but he was a little shy then so he didn’t get involved in the anniversary events. He’s really cleaned up and this year he insists on helping out. Say hello to Farinelli, everyone! (He’s like my shadow, but he’s also my bossy big brother!)

      I’m sure you’ve all seen the big contests that have already been posted up; the moderators wanted me to post them up early so you would all have time to get involved. Are you working hard on your entries? There are some pretty great prizes this year! Generous companies and DoA members are the reason we have such amazing prizes, so make sure you thank them if you’re lucky enough to be a winner!

      Even if you’re not busily working on entries for the major contests because you feel that they’re just a tad too big or you don’t have the time to dedicate, don’t worry! That doesn’t mean you can’t be involved! First off, members get to vote on most of the contests, so make sure you cast your votes for your favorites. It’s a great way to be involved and keep up-to-date on the fantastic talents we have on the forum.

      Also, the whole month of August will be filled with mini contests, discussions, photo sharing, and special DoA limited items! So keep checking the DoA Anniversary subforum for announcements and new threads. Some of these items are pretty amazing, so you really don’t want to miss them! (There’s one that’s very special to me, and I’m so excited for the release!)

      Thanks to everyone on Den of Angels for making it a fun and exciting place, even for a tiny dog like me! I hope you have lots of fun this August! Love and crazy puppy kisses, Truffle! (And Farinelli!)

      NY_Kitty: You're very close! My birthday is Friday, actually. Can you believe I'll be three years old??

      April: He does sing! Especially in the morning; he yawns, and it's all high notes. I think he can be a bit of a diva.

      I hope everyone is ready to have fun! I've made sure the month is full of great things to see and do. Watch for little contests and daily discussion threads. You never know when they'll pop up.

    14. Truffle, it's great to hear from you again! I showed Mac your latest photos, and he was very impressed! He says you look lovely, as always. :D And Farinelli looks like quite a character! I'm glad your caretakers (servants?) were able to rescue him from a terrible place. It's funny, because Mac got a new sibling this year, too! His new little sister, Sophie, is definitely his shadow, too!

      Greeniebone: Oh my goodness, Mac is looking sooooooooo handsome! Sophie seems very sweet, and she's very lucky to have Mac for a big brother, I think.

    20. Thanks for holding this event again this year - My Hubby had as much fun last year as I did - I am anxious to see this years talent turn out in the contests!!     21. You know the one thing I don't get about the contests? I understand we can't show people what we did for the contest to keep things fair, but a lot of us know what each others dolls look like so even if I don't tell a soul what I did for a contest as soon as voting starts and people see one of my dolls it'll be pretty obvious that's my work. Now yes the entire community does not know which dolls are mine but quite a few people do.

    22. Just because someone knows you did an entry doesn't mean they'll vote for you. :sweat

      Making the entries anonymous (or as close as we can) also means that people might not feel as obligated to vote for their friends, so they can vote for the entries that they really feel are the best. For this reason, we also don't post who voted for whom - we wouldn't want anyone to get mad at their friends for not voting for them!

      The rules are that you can't identify your entry or solicit votes. Not only is it against the rules, it's a bit tacky to try to guilt other people into voting or use your "star power" to get a prize. (Using the generic you, of course.)

A number of contests- Silhouette Contest, Shadow Faceup, Spoonflower Fabric, and even possibly the The Jungian "Shadow" Contest- have situations where dolls are not present or altered beyond their normal recognizable state. That's half the large contests where people may not have the ability to recognize a doll and the anonymity is of rather pertinent importance. This, of course, is addition to the facts that armeleia pointed out to you.
