The Critiques forum is a place where members may receive constructive feedback about the quality of their work, so that they can better their skills. This is a mature environment where artists are serious about improving their techniques and their craft. Please note that market research, selling, buying, or any discussion of transactions is strictly prohibited outside of the Marketplace. Do not use this area for business or advertising. HOW IT WORKS Threads will be locked after one month to ensure that every artist receives equal exposure time. This prevents old threads from being resurrected long after the work has been completed, which is irrelevant and distracts from current threads that need input. If you are asking for critique, please: Post clear, appropriately sized photos! Your peers can’t help you if they can’t see your hard work! Try to offer photos from different angles for faceups, or a complete display: Front, Profile, and 3/4. Make sure that the photos you use actually show your work. Try to avoid obscuring details behind wigs/clothing/deep shadows/miscellaneous accessories. Prepare yourself for honest criticism. You may receive comments which are disheartening, but everyone is in this subforum to learn and grow together. Write any goals that you had for the piece, and let your peers know what it is you were aiming for. Ask for specific skills or aspects of your work which you would like to receive feedback/suggestions on, so others can direct their critiques. If you are giving critiques to others, please: Ensure that your criticism is constructive. Focus on specific technical aspects of the work. Effective critique includes both the good and bad parts. This offers a balanced approach that helps people to grow without being discouraged. Offer specific solutions. “Try lowering the left eyebrow 2 mm” offers clear instructions to your peers who wish to improve. Focus on the presented work and keep it neutral. Insults, poor attitudes, mean behaviour, and flaming will not be tolerated. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND We highly encourage members to participate fully in both roles: giving and receiving. We hope that everyone here will find their efforts rewarded, either by watching an artist grow or growing as artists themselves. Don’t be afraid to contact someone stellar to tell them how much you appreciate them! It is always nice to hear. Heck, you might even become close friends after a few exchanges! We definitely hope this is the case. The mature and honest environment of Critiques can be a really great place to find great minds and greater inspiration. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR ARTISTS! LET’S WORK HARD TOGETHER!
