66cm+ Dolls Welcome Home Jamil :: Soom Heliot - 2022 Version

Ever since I've gotten into this hobby back in 2011, I have loved Soom Heliot. Unfortunately I couldn't justify his secondhand prices as I would have had to hybrid his torso because I didn't like the look of the old body (pre-2012).
Anyway, when Soom re-released him this April I jumped on him, especially because he was less expensive new than secondhand.

I did a 2 part layaway and paid him off in May. I got the shipping notice on August 11th, exactly 111 days from when I ordered him. That is a pretty special number because I also love LotR and The Hobbit.

Now onto the box opening pics!


First up the shipping box. I generally open doll boxes from the bottom, because there is less paperwork to cut through.


The company box is much simpler than it used to be. I have a Soom FC Chrom from 2011 and he still had the storm cloud box. But this is simple and elegant, very nice design.


Opened the box to reveal the body pillow, and his lower legs/hoof parts.


The hooves are BIG!


The horn. I went with black transparent because the character is a tainted unicorn.


The COAs come in a little booklet. I got one for the head and one for the body.


The pillow opened, revealing the lovely boy wrapped in some bubble wrap and the cushions.


Freedom! Gotta string his legs on, put some eyes in him, and get him dressed and wigged.


With eyes and horn in place. These are not the eyes I intended for him to have, but since they are so narrow the dark purple eyes just looked black. So he got light eyes instead.


Together in one piece! Soom changed the attachment method of the hooves (I've seen an original Soom Heliot way back when), but it is a very good change. Now the hooves have a resin hook at the top, unlike the old version where there was a hole all the way through and the s-hook rested inside from the bottom.


And finally here he is dressed. The wig is likely temporary as his intended wig turned out to be too big (Bhiner sent me the wrong size, a 9-10 instead of an 8-9). I want him to have red hair, but the blue/lavender/grey wig looks lovely too. So I am a little torn, do I try and get him a red wig or do I stick with this beautiful grey one? Decisions are hard!!

He is in Cream White, which looks very much like a pale normal skin. It's quite interesting but not a bad color for him. I only wish there had been an option for extra-pose thighs, but alas, he is as he is. I'm just a sucker for super posable dolls!

Thank you so much! Grey is a very dashing color on him, but I do imagine the character to have wine red hair, so I ordered a new wig in that color.

I'm excited to paint him, but I may wait until his new wig arrives (the torture) as I like to match the eyebrows to the wig... Though I could do some neutral colored eyebrows... hmm

Thank you! I’m excited to paint him, but I need to wait on his new wine red wig. The last one I bought got sent to me in the wrong size from Bhiner (first and last time I used them) and I couldn’t tell they ordered the wrong size from the photo… Ah well, he’s gorgeous even blank! I’m trying to decide if I should do his burn scars or not. Decisions decisions…

He’s actually my only blank doll at the moment, though I do have a few that could do with a redo

 

I got impatient so I painted him this morning, and I did give him a burn scar!


Luckily I did find a wig online that’ll work for him (I hope), it will arrive aroun the beginning of September.

I usually bulk order eyelashes for faceups from Taobao as they are cheaper that way, even with a proxy. Oh well, lesson learned abou bhiner!
