Weird notification from Flickr

Jan 11, 2026

    1. Has anyone else’s Flickr app prompted them to click on this weird notification? It said that they were temporarily suspending every account to weed out fake accounts and AI accounts. So all you had to do was verify through the link in the push notification.

It said to make up for the inconvenience, they were giving 3 months of their pro service for free. So after I checked out the link it’s now asking for card or PayPal info for the “free trial”. And I’m like, um no. :|

Is this just a ploy to get their users to sign but for the “free trial”, forget about the subscription, and in 3 months charge us for Flickr Pro? Will our accounts be actually suspended if we don’t provide money info? Cuz I’m not doing that.

    2. Please make sure to see the email name, scammers are getting very tricky with those things to almost a believable level, so whatever this is I will advise not to engage with it at all.

    3. It came from the app itself as a push notification, not an email. Which is why I find it so weird.

    4. Do you think maybe it was a private message that someone (a scammer) sent on Flickr? Then the app did a push notification to alert you to the message?

You can check your private messages on Flickr via desktop. Click on your profile photo (or whatever generic thing you have if you haven't set up a photo) in the upper right of the page and then select FlickrMail.

I haven't seen this suspicious activity, BTW.

    5. I found some discussion of this from other Flickr users (the first few posts are the only ones that are really relevant) that there's some accounts sending phishing PMs that sound like what you got the notification for.

    6. I’ll check like you suggested! I didn’t even know you could send and receive messages via Flickr. I only use it for posting photos here, so I haven’t learned the in and outs of Flickr.

It happened right after I uploaded new photos via the app. Like seconds after.

    7. I checked my Flickr inbox, it’s empty. Checked the notifications, nothing mentions the weird message. I almost wish I had screenshotted it cuz it’s as if it didn’t happen. *_*

    8. I just went and checked my Flickr, I've been there a few times in the past couple of days. I think you might be getting a scam message like other people have said. I uploaded pictures recently and this didn't happen to me.

    9. Good to know! I decided to email Flickr about it. Since it came from their app I figured they should know about it. In case they have some sort of breech. *_*

    10. It might've been a FlickrMail posthumously flagged as spam and deleted. You might've seen it before it got deleted.

I checked out the link lavenderbear provided to the support forum. I saw someone mentioned it was in FlickrMail and then it wasn't there anymore. It's been a while since I've seen that sort of thing, but I think I've seen that behavior on Flickr before. It's just a thing Flickr does.

It was probably a scam FlickrMail message. I haven't gotten any app notifications myself, but I don't think I would be getting app notifications from Flickr. I like to turn off notifications for most of my apps. To be honest, I wasn't even sure you could use the Flickr app for FlickrMail. I pretty much just use it to pull up a photo from my albums if I'm at a doll meet or something.

I did try uploading a photo and seeing if I got a FlickrMail. I did not.

      Good luck and stay safe.

    11. That is absolutely a scam. Flickr would contact you through e-mail if there was anything, and I will never believe in a million years they would give everyone 3 months free Pro  stay safe everyone!

    12. I don’t know much about Flickr specifically. But considering how many free trials I get offered for all the tech-y companies (like apple with their music) I figured it could be one of those kind of promotions. The way the message was worded was like just legit enough. But I since I don’t even want the pro account I was like no :sweat So glad I decided to ask around and google it. Cuz I didn’t even know you could receive messages from other people via Flickr. The message I got was masquerading as Flickr itself. It was the only notification from the Flickr app I ever got so I thought it really was from Flickr :doh But I emailed the staff and they confirmed it was from another user. Thankfully they have been removed from the site. And now I’m gonna just disable the notifications lol

Originally I thought it was Flickr being scammy but it was a rando. I was most concerned about getting locked out of my account :sweat I feel like I learned about Flickr and their features though, so I suppose that is the silver lining :arainclou
