Hi! So I just got my first legit BJD recently, a 1/6 Bobobie girl, and I've noticed something odd with her pupils. They kind of disappear at certain angles, like those old changing-picture cards for kids...? At some angles, they look normal and you can see that they're circles, but at others they clip out of existence, even to my own eyes...?!: (image is i.imgur.com/8tI85e6.jpg if above isn't working) I've tried googling and searching the forums here but haven't been able to find any explanation...does anyone know anything about this? Is there a trick to avoiding it with my camera?
The pupils almost look like goat pupils in that picture. Do you have a picture of the eyes just by themselves? I wonder if they are too big for her head or if it's how they're made.
Hmm well I definitely agree they're too big for her, ha. It's just what she came with. I'm at work now so all I can offer at the moment is another view?: [backup link] You can kind of see that they've changed shape there from the image in the first post. But I'll try to get a shot of them looking "normal" when I get home in a few hours!
Hmmm I wonder if it's what they're made of. She might have come with a defective pair of eyes...because they still look weird in that shot!
The site says acrylic...but I have other acrylic eyes, and they definitely do not do this I am starting to think the side of defective somehow, too...Shame, since I do like the colour!
How the lens has been layered on top of the acrylic may be distorting the pupil. Try taking the eys out and looking at them.
I think it's something about the dome over the iris and pupil distorting the shape or the pupil. Going back and forth between the two pictures, it looks almost as iof it comes to a point (like a cone shape) instead of being a rounded dome, and the position of the point in relation to where you're viewing it from is causing the pupil to look distorted. I won't buy high done eyes because they have a disturbing tendency to make the doll look cross eyed in photos even when they're set in the sockets completely evenly. Teddy
The eyes my Doll Leaves Betty shipped with did that. The "lens" part of the eyes was a more-than-four sided pyramid shape and it made the pupils look really odd from some angles. I bought her some different eyes and they fixed the problem.
Ok! I was able to take some closeup shots and lo-and-behold...her eyes are indeed pointy...as some of you surmised!: [backup link 1] [backup link 2] Welp, I'm glad to know the issue now, instead of thinking something was wrong with my camera or eyes, haha. Thanks everyone!
i think it has something to do with the dome of the eyes, but that hasn't happened to my eyes yet, tho i make the dome a little higher.
that’s…really interesting honestly? The pupils kind of look like hypnotoad, where did you get them from?
Ha, I kind of thought that as well! They came with the doll, though I'm not sure if they're from Bobobie or if they were something from the seller, Denver Doll Emporium.
