(way more than) 30 day tiny? - new faceplate

Jan 2, 2010

    1. I think there are glow in the dark resin being sold somewhere.

    2. She turned out gorgeous!!! I LOVE the light blue one :<3
Question though, are you drilling all the holes for the arms and legs?

    3. =0 I admire you deeply

    4. Wonderful! Thanks for the great posts of your doll making journey. She turned out fantastic. Thank you for sharing this experience with all of us. I learned a lot. You must be very happy.

    5. I wrote to Donny to ask and he said that he uses a quick-setting resin for his glow-in-the-dark casting. He invents his own resin formulations, though, so I think he's way ahead of me in terms of technical ability!

I am casting with nylon rods in place so I don't have to drill as much. I have a hard time drilling straight. I do have to do some cleanup at the joints, but it works out ok.

The production sample came on Monday.

I really like the quality. The resin is really nice and the seams are sanded!

I'm taking orders for her now, if anyone is interested. :)

    6. She is stunning!!!! I agree, the resin is beautiful *o*
      Will you be selling more after this order period? I might not be able to get her this time around ;A;

    7. Congratulations! I love that little girl. I must say, if I wasn't spending every penny I have on my new house right now, I would've definitely bought her (not that that is going to help you right now). But she's very loveable and her price is really good, so I do think that many will want to have her.

Just a question: how do you ship them? Do you have a company box and if so, where did you get them (if you don't mind my asking) and did you have to order a lot or could you order them in small bulks?

I'm not at all dying to find out how the business side of the process goes. Nope. Not at all...

    8. Hi, Armeleia!

I have no words... you did an excellent job, congratulations!!! :love:love:love

Unfortunately I can't pre-order her right now :( Will you open a new pre-order in the next months? If so, I'll pre-order her with all faceplates for sure! :))

      Best regards :)

    9. I don't know if I'll be selling her again in the future... it'll depend on how well she sells this time. The production costs are a little daunting because I have had to commit to a minimum order. If I lose money, I won't do a second order. Orders are going okay so far, but after the initial little flurry, I haven't had any new orders. The business side of the dollmaking/selling is a bit stressful! :dead

Instead of boxes, I am just shipping in little sewn pouches like sleeping bags. Most of the places I've looked at for custom boxes have been really condescending and have had big minimum orders.

      Keepin' on keepin' on! :<3

    10. She is so tiny, couldn't she fit into one of the little gift boxes they sell at craft stores? Those little white jewelery gift boxes are only $1 a piece I think...

    11. I kind of know what you mean. The distributors I looked into had a minimum order of 500 boxes. *laughs* I'd be the luckiest girl alive if I would be able to sell that many dolls. But sewn pouches is a good idea too! I thought Domuya sent me one of their Flexi -bodies in a sleeping bag (no box), so it isn't that uncommon.

Hopefully more customers will come your way soon. <3

    12. Chin-up chicky - IMO I think that once the first one's start arriving to their homes you may find the flurry will increase. Especially when there is that wonderful thing called "In-Stock" and then ships within the week its rather refreshing ;)

Cant believe I'm getting them LOL I feel so privileged almost have your little masterpieces be IN MY HANDS!!

    13. I do understand you very well... I hope I can find the money anywhere before december 3rd... I'll cross my fingers (though I think it's gonna be near impossible) :sweat

Anyway, I hope you make a great bussiness!

      Best wishes :)

    14. I started a new face. :) She will be an elf.

    15. I just saw Starling on your blog and even though I commented there, I just have to say how much I love her! :love I've been saving money for casting funds, but some of that may have to be repurposed. I can't wait until she's finished so I can see her on a body!

    16. Starling is lovely! also saw the pics in your blog, i like a lot that nose :<3
      and yay! for elf ears!

    17. Oh, I love her face! That nose is great. I can't wait to see her finished.

    18. Oooh she's beautiful. She seems maybe more mature than Inkling? Cute ears :))

    19. I'm really inlove with her (our) left eye. I really love the point that it comes to and the eye crease.
And her ear is just to die for!!

    20. great ! She is beautiful :) Her ears are soo longs ! It won't be a problem for casting ?

    21. I've been alternately very motivated and very lazy. I finished the elf faceplate and I'm ready to junk mold so I can do the different expressions, but it's so cold here that my silicone won't set. I've been wasting time playing with junk faceplates and making new faces. :)

The newest is on the left... it is really crooked. It already doesn't look like that picture anymore, but I haven't taken any new ones. I like the second one a lot. It's very kitty-like in some ways, though it's not intended as an anthro.

I'm reworking the girl body to have double-jointed knees... but I've been kinda lazy and I haven't made as much progress as I would have liked! Also making a small-bust torso. I like the big bust better, but this is okay. I'm still evening it out and smoothing:

    22. Oh man... I was sorry when I realized I'd missed your first Inkling run, but I like this new girl even better. The nose and lips are just perfect. :<3

    23. Ooh Aimee - your first face on the far left looks like my Alexis <3 - well if i squint a bit...... I'm loving Starling tho and the widdle boobs are too cute... though I think it'll be a battle of jealous resin with them side by side!!

Too cold for silicone to cure??? Bugger that - now you know why Australia is where you REALLY want to live right? LOL Can you put it in a warmed room or perhaps find a way to pump warm air into the pressure pot instead of cold? Maybe if you degas - pour and then cure without pressure in a low temp oven....?

    24. I thought I’d give some pics of what’s been happening with Starling’s body. :) Please keep in mind that everything is in the fat, ugly, lumpy stage, so this doesn’t really give an accurate idea of what things will look like when they’re done.

New elbow joint… double-jointed! She can easily touch her face… and it’s a very stable joint. :)
The new knees look very ugly from the front at the moment because they are still just globby for function. I’ll slim down them and get the nice muscle shapes in. They also look particularly bad because I cut off about 1/2cm from the bottom so I can redo her ankle joints… so her upper leg looks too long. It won’t when it’s done… and she shouldn’t be much taller. Oh, you can also see the start of the swivel joint at the top of her thigh.
It’s the first I’ve actually strung this leg… and I see that I need to cut the stringing channels further. But overall, I like the look and function of the joint. Now I just need to clean it up and do the other side. Then it’s on to the ankles and thigh swivel…
      [IMG]
And the last change is pretty small… I am tweaking the headback so that the edges of the part that go down onto the neck don’t show from the front.

I also started some new hands… and some people have requested high heel feet so she can wear Barbie shoes, so I might try to make some of those when I have a chance. I need to find some Barbie shoes to test with though since I don’t have any.

    25. Looking good! Congrats on deciding to venture into double jointing at this scale :)

I see the sculpting is rough at this stage and that there will be sanding happening, but there is something niggling me about the shape of this left leg, as if the places where there are anatomical bulges should be on the opposite side, lest this is actually the right leg; especially the way the shin curves outwards at the bottom.

The elbow looks great, and the knee too especially once you cut the slots longer. I'd consider building something into the sculpt of the upper half of the knee to prevent it from bending further than 90 degrees, especially since there will be no rotating in that joint.

    26. I love the double jointing design you have done for the knees its great! I love the way you have made it so you cant see the double joint when shes standing, so clever ! Her elbows look nice too.

    27. Ow! The second of your new faces is especially adorable! I've been following Inkling for so long and I never thought she would get double joints. It's especially important for her elbows; it adds so much more expression. Keep soldiering on through the globby stages!

    28. Looking good! I love the posing with the new elbow, and I think the thigh swivel plus the double-jointed knees will add some great poseability too.

    29. i love the kittenish one, and the fairy eared one with the small bust. the doublejointing is fun isnt it? i like what you got the arm doing....you make me think about starting a doll fund again....

    30. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading through this thread!! She has turned out fantastic, you did such a wonderful job on her. Starling is lookin really good too. I like how you are handling the knee joints on Starling. It looks a lot nicer in the unflexed position than others I've seen, and that's including what I've done lol.

I had to giggle though. I sculpt in the 7-8 inch range normally for my faeries and the comments on the comparison pics with everyone saying how tiny she is and my first impression was how Giant that head and hand was. My bjd that I'm working on is around 10" and I thought She was huge hehe

Thank you so much for sharing your inprogress work, it is very inspiring :)

    31. It was great being able to read through this thread to see the work you put into making this girl. It was very inspiring and I learned a lot. It also shows I have A LOT more to learn, before I even attempt something like this. Can't wait to see what you do with Starling.

    32. I'm still working slowly on the second version body.

It's almost done, I think, I am just working on stabilizing the joints and really making sure that the legs are the same length, etc. This isn't the default lower torso - it's a chunkier version that does with a chunkier faceplace I sculpted. :)

    33. Wow she is looks so pretty and so small! What a job!!!

    34. Love Love Love Her!!

    35. she's coming along great!!!
