Was your first doll a boy or girl?

Jun 17, 2014

    1. I prefer boy dolls, but I notice more people prefer girls

      • x 1
    2. Besides like and plan have boys, my first doll was a girl, a Fairyland Feeple65 Chloe. I got her last year. My first boy arrive have 2 weeks he is a MegaGem Shoshon da Soom. And i also plan get more boys, i have 3 girls already so probably the next 3 will be just boys.

    3. initially I preferred girls for the clothing opportunities - I love shopping for doll clothes and tiny shoes! But it gets a bit boring after a couple of years, so I'm now adding a few boys in there, even though they only wear jeans and a shirt/teeshirt *yawn* I guess I just lack imagination :XD:

    4. my first doll was a girl, because I love shopping for doll clothes, but i plan have boy :XD:

    5. I plan on having all types of dolls. My first one that is coming is a Ryu migidoll. I like the kid boys and might get one. I have many plans for each of them. My Ryu already has a pretty complex style I have plan when he arrives.

    6. My first was a boy. Girls are the majority here though.

    7. My first doll was a girl because I got into the hobby collecting Dollfie Dreams, where there are still currently no boy sculpts.
All my BJD are girls for now, but I'm still searching for the perfect man (er, dollie man) to join them.

    8. First five are girls because I wanted specific dolls, two of which I wouldn't have been able to get if I waited. My next two will both be boys, though.

    9. My first set of dolls will be all girls because I have specific characters and looks in mind for them. All-though, I do have a few boys on my list for later.

    10. My first is gonna be a boy (just waiting on him to get home~). Most of my planned dolls will be boys too :0 (I have way too many boy characters :sweat)

    11. Mine was a boy.

Naively I thought that as I'd only ever get one of these doll's, I'd go for a boy as they were so rare among dolls generally.

I currently have... {does hasty mental headcount} 13 boys (from SD13 down to PukiPuki size), 23 Girls (from Lusion down to PukiPuki size), and 4 RealPuki who appear to be of indeterminate gender (or at least, won't own-up to being either).

I like the boys but the girls are more fun to dress (an make stuff for).

    12. My first doll was/is a boy and he is still with me :) (almost 10 years ago). I was never attracted to barbies or dolls in general, but a boy doll was different for me because the only other boy doll I knew was ken but I don't like the barbie dolls~_~ so I got my boy...and many boys after him^^ I only have one cute little puki girl who I love dearly and she made me realize that variety is nice so I got another MSD girl (IH Soa) but I sold her soon after...I wasn't having too much fun with her and her body wasn't of my liking...I'd like to get another girl, maybe a 35cm one or smaller but I haven't found the one that calls me out(you know what I mean^^). My crew consist of 1 girl out of 20 boys probably haha (wishlists inc)

    13. The first one was a boy. And at that point I was convinced that I would have an all boys crew....
There are now two girls in my crew, with a third one on the way. But the guys will always outnumber the girls.
The variety is indeed nice to have.

    14. My first BJD was a boy (Volks Isao 2nd. ed.), who I still own, after 9 years. He was an impulse purchase, though I'd been looking at BJDs for a year. Then he immediately needed a girlfriend, annnnnd, we were off and running!

I used to collect fashion dolls, and although the male dolls weren't terribly inspiring, I felt the need to have a "complete" world with a balance of both male and female dolls. Although BJD males are mostly "pretty", they just had so much more personality, so I found myself collecting more and more boys, and then I'd try to even the ratio by collecting girls, too. :sweat

    15. The boys are what first interested me in BJDs, but my first doll was a girl.

    16. My first doll was a boy! :) I have many boys but only a girl (incomplete because I haven't finished from making clothes for her yet.) and another girl is still on waiting list.

    17. My first was a boy, and I thought I'd only ever want boys. For the first 5 years in the hobby, I had almost all boys, never more than 2 girls in the house at time and they never stayed long, usually under a year, or even less. I just couldn't bond. Most girl dolls felt too "cutesy" or generic or anime or young or...just TOO....something. Then something changed last summer and I suddenly have 6 girls and another on her way. Still have a lot more boys! But it's slowly starting to balance more.

    18. My first doll was a boy, too. I was really into yaoi at that time, hehe. Wow, those were the days.

But I never really bonded with him and sold him in the end. After that it's only been girls, except for one doll I bought as a boy but changed into a girl later on. Though I admire all those pretty or manly dolls out there, I don't want to own male dolls because I somehow feel limited in styling options.

    19. My first was a girl, but I do love my boys more and I think the longest with me is a boy :). I do have a variety though, but need some msd boys.

    20. My first doll was a girl but I was having a hard time deciding between her and a boy. As it sits I only have girls.
I like shopping for clothes for them and I tend to like the more girly sculpts. >.<
I do plan to get a boy at some point but it'll probably still be a bit for that.

    21. Wow that's a lot of dolls how long have you been in the hobby?

I have all boy things: my anime figures, stuffed animals, and random things n my house I give a gender to.....don't know why

    22. I am into yaoi that might explain things.....

    23. My first doll is a girl.

    24. Girl :aheartbea No boys yet! Maybe one day!

    25. My first doll was a boy but he is the only one. Soon I will have 5 girls and 1 boy, so he is quite lucky here~

    26. My first was a boy~ ^^
For a couple years I had only boys. It was difficult for me to find girls I liked enough to own. Even though I finally found the girls I liked, my favorite dolls to shop for are still the boys. XD; Boys 10 Girls: 8

    27. My first doll was a girl and my current collection is mostly girls as well. ^^ I had many boys in the intervening years, but except for 2 (and they're the same character in MSD and SD forms) they all ended up sold.

    28. My first 3 dolls were boys, haha!

I definitely prefer boy dolls. Even as a child, my toys were generally male rather than female. I'm not sure why! 14/26 human dolls are boys in my current collection, and 5/6 anthro dolls are male. I am also waiting on the arrival of another boy doll, and I have one more on layaway.

    29. Boy. Out of the 93 I own 68 are males, and 25 are females. 37 males are SD sized, 23 males are tinies, and 8 males are MSD sized. In the females I have 8 SD sized, 11 tinies, and 6 MSD sized.

    30. I like both, but I've only ever owned girls so far.

    31. The first doll I ordered was a boy, and the first doll that arrived to me was a girl. I have mostly boys though, they are my preference :)

    32. my first doll was a boy and even though i have more girl dolls boy dolls are still my favorite

    33. My first doll is a girl. I think it's because there is more clothing options for a girl than a boy and so I love dressing her up. But I do have a boy doll on the way and my plans have more boys than girls in it.

    34. Definitely girl. I don't know if I'll ever have a boy doll lol.

    35. my first doll was a boy. Nanuri 07 event. I love him still so much.

    36. The very first doll I bought was a Mystic Kids Lillian...she was so cute and perfect and I just loved her so much.

    37. My first doll was female, but my second was male, and I alternated back and forth for a while. At the moment, though, I do have more female dolls than male dolls - I seem to find it easier to create female characters, which makes it easier to justify buying female dolls. Also, I'm a bit fussier about what my boys look like. I'm not a fan of super feminine guys, but I'm alsonot a fan of super masculine guys. There's a sweet spot I have to hit to want a male doll, and it's rare to find it in this hobby.

    38. My first doll was a boy, like a few others here I also thought I'd only ever have one, well one turned into two, then a surprise 3rd when a friend gave me a problem doll they just could not deal with, I got her straightened out. I'm up to 12 now... le sigh... but I love them all!! <3

    39. My first was a boy and all that followed are boys. I now have 15 and I don't want any girls. Some of my boys are pretty/feminine looking and others are not. I don't feel at all limited for clothing though as some wear everyday cloths, some wear fantasy outfits, some are rockstars and dress as such and some crossdress:)

    40. A boy crossdressed as a girl for me! Pretty cliché, right? :)

    41. Technically by body, my first doll was female (obitsu 60cm). However, as the character is actually intersex, the body has been modified to being more androgynous.

Most of my dolls now are male, in fact all except my two obitsu 60s (who have both been modded to being androgynous, both characters are intersex) are male. Just find it easier to create male characters than female ones.

I am planning on getting one mini size female and two tiny size females though!

    42. my first doll was a boy. now there are two, and two more on the way ... and all the guys ))

    43. I've ordered two boys as my first dolls... I'm really excited to get them, I'm just worried boys will be harder to dress.

    44. When I started in this hobby, I'd only caught an intriguing glimpse of some BJDs, from a distance, at an anime convention. Later, someone on a Yaoi Forum was talking about these amazing boy dolls she wanted to get, and posted links to some websites. When I checked them out, I realized they had to be the same dolls as the ones at the convention. Since I'd never seen one in person, I decided to test the waters by ordering a small, fairly inexpensive one. So I went looking on ebay, and I found this cute little Customhouse Petite Ai who was relatively inexpensive. I don't remember the sculpt name, the Petite Ai's all had names of angels, ones that were all similar sounding.

Now I've always preferred boy dolls, I even used to try and turn my girl dolls into boy dolls when I was a kid. So I was planning on a boy, and all the information I'd found on them said that the Petite Ai were basically genderless, so I'm thinking, "Oh, that one is cute, such a solemn little face!" "It's nice and small, and not too expensive, it will make a perfect little boy!" "I'll name him Kestral.".....

      Right....

The package arrives, I open it, and I find myself eye to eye with this little, still slightly chubby, four year old... Whose little face looks like any minute tears are going to start welling up, and this quavering little toddler's voice in my head saying, "Hello, my name is Kestral, but, but, I'm not a boy! I'm a little girl!" 0_o

Here I was expecting a slim, five or six year old, adorable boy, and what do I end up with, a little, just barely four year old, girl. Try as I might, there was no changing her from a girl to a boy. Lol, that's one thing none of the doll sites warn you about, that these dolls definitely have a mind of their own! ^_~

Well, there was nothing for it but to try again, so back to the internet I went. This time I went for some that were a little bigger and older, three Volks MSD boys and one Volks SDC boy. I figured once my boys got here I could just resell the little girl on ebay.

Uh huh, sure. The packages arrive and I looking at three gorgeous, perfect boys. Then I hear this polite, beautiful, intelligent, boy's voice in my head saying, "Hi, I'm Peregrine Fox, I'm sixteen, and this is my brother Merlin Fox, he's thirteen. The boy over there with no eyes is Autumn Grey, Audie for short. He is Merlin's classmate and our friend. Oh, and please! You can't sell Kestral! She's our little sister!" 9_9

Lol, what can you do? ~_^

Anyway, since then a few more girls have found their way in, but the boys still out number the girls, probably by at least a four to one ratio. ^_^

Oh, and the fourth box, that was Lucifer, and he is another story, but I'll save that for another post.

    45. My first doll was a boy, but as a gift I got a girl with him. So I could say a boy and a girl, but I did buy the boy cause I fell in love with his face. :)

    46. my first BJD is a girl my next few will probably also be girls since the one boy I have planned is hard to come by

    47. My first BJD was a girl. And I had always planned it to be a girl. My second however is going to be a boy. (I've already ordered his body and head. Have yet to get them.)

    48. My first was(is) a girl and I'll probably be buying mainly girls, I don't know why but they just appeal to me more

    49. My first was an SD size girl. So were my second and third. My fourth was a tiny size girl. But I currently have my first boy on layaway. I would like to have an even mix of boys and girls in my collection, but I just don't seem to find as many male sculpts I really love. I always have an eye out, but the guy that's on layaway is the first male sculpt I have seen yet that I absolutely fell for immediately. (So of COURSE he would be limited and fairly expensive :|) I'm really looking forward to him and fully expect to enjoy my boy just as much as I do my girls. And I hope to find at least a few more boys I really like over time to add to my collection.

    50. I'm still waiting on my first two and a half girls. I don't feel any desire to own a boy doll. I do like the cute couple photos that others make, though.

I think all-in-all I will end up with 4 girls. Maybe 5 if I can't resist another tan event. (and god knows it could be 6 if I get another event head...)

    51. My first doll was a girl, because she was convenient. XD A friend owned a DZ body that wasn't working for a character she had and I loved DZ Helen. And so we came to an agreement, made a trade (funds for doll body), I ordered the head from MoC--and then I had my first girl! :D

    52. My first was girl, pukipuki Madeleine.

    53. First one was a BOY.

Second was a girl, but I do prefer the boys! Before bjds, there were just so few boy dolls. It's one of the great things about bjds--all the different boys! :D

    54. My first doll was a boy; now I own three boys. I do have girls, but I prefer boys. :)

    55. My first doll was a msd girl.
Poor girl is so lonely as one of my girls are never home and the other is a pet. I have three boys home right now, three sd boys on the way another female "pet" but a female msd body is also on the way to complete another girl. I plan to order two more msd boys before the end of the year.

    56. I prefer girl dolls but I notice more people prefer boys  I don't like boy dolls becouse they seem like girls.

    57. My first doll is a girl:)
Most doll I own are girls, only one boy, lucky him surrounded by girls!

    58. My first was a SD girl. And all girls since then lol. My first girl has been neglected for awhile but now I think she's gonna work into my band's story.

    59. I started with a pair of male CP/Delf twins... A standard, open-eyed Shiwoo and his Dreaming counterpart.

    60. My first doll was/is a girl, and it took me ages to find a sculpt I liked enough to buy (that was also affordable). I would like to buy myself a boy too but I just can't seem to find a head sculpt I like in the size range I'm looking for.
