Took a trip to Cardiff today and went inside the warhammer shop to look at paints. I'm so sorry if this topic has been dealt with, but the only thing I found that mentioned citadel gloss varnish is ok to use. Does the paint stain resin or is it ok to use? Any doll owners from the UK used it before? If you have, would you happen to have any pictures of the faceups? Thatw ould be so much help Love you guys! P.S. If it does seem like a silly question, I just want to make absolutly sure that I won't harm Gabriel when I do his new lips. First paint job you know! XD
i've been wanting to know how well they work too. i already have a ton of them, and thier ink too from my miniature hobby. i wanted to know especially about the inks, would they be harmful?
Citadel paints are acrylic, so you should be fine with using them on resin. I assume you want the gloss varnish to gloss lips etc - if it comes in a spraycan its probably not a good idea to use it on your doll as a basecoat or anything like that, as it will be glossy and is not meant for resin. - Therese
Thanks very much for the info! Yeah, I got a small pot of gloss for his lips. I did look to see if they had some sort of sealer, but they only seemed to have the gloss varnish in spray form. Thanks again! Big help!
the only thing I might be wary of is that citadel paints are not quite in the artists quality range. I dunno if that sounds like eliteism to you but I haven't been able to find out any information on the light fast qualities of the paints. I prefer to use paints that have been rated for lightfast just in case I get a paint job I absolutely love and want to keep. Also I have read somewhere that citadel and vallejo reds will leave stain on resin (i'll post the link if I could ever find it again) so I would be very careful about spraying first to avoid this. I'm into painting minis too but I've gotten annoyed at citadel paints drying up on me and just not behaving how I would like so I started buying reaper master colour and vallejos by mail order and am much happier with them I belong to a sculpting forum and was thinking about posting a query there regarding what selaers people use for their resin models. Garage kits are a big thing now and a growing hobby so it would be interesting to see what that side of the resin groupies are doing
Anything that isnt solvent based should be ok for dolls. I had heard on a diffrent web site of a woman who was making custom dolls and use to paint them with Testors model paints!! She switched to acrylic when she noticed the dolls yellowing and the paint bleeding into the dolls after YEARS of having used it!! Iam sorry but how dumb was that?! Any way, any acrylic or acylic compatiable product should be safe for your doll, but and oil or solvent based paint should be avoided like the bubonic plague! ops:
I used Citadel Colours for my first face-up, and I had no problems with it. Specifically, I used the Liche Purple and Chaos Black ones. Best picture I could find without going through the tons I have. Only thing is, I found it a bit hard to get off. But that might be any paint.
