Aesthetics W.I.P full body redo (part 1) IMG HEAVY

Jul 12, 2016

    1. So, I painted my Doll Chateau body as my first whole body workup. It was really sloppy with a lot of big goals, so I decided to try again. Rather than keep reworking the Elizabeth doll, I figured I would try the new little Soom Yarn (AKA Tundra) that I recently got my hands on from the amazin @Quiet and Insane . He had come with the cutest little faceup, but I wanted him to have a different personality. So, going with his name, I decided on a design. This is still a W.I.P, so I apologize for the mess and lack of limbs...I just ran out of sealant but wanted to get some feedback. The photos don't show of the smaller details (there is small bits of glitter inside the larger snowflakes). I will be adding creeping frost over parts of him as well. Ok..let me know what you think!

This is his original look. I had added some little accents, but this is the idea.

I was not prepared for the hours it took to get all this paint off T.T

      It is done...FINALLY!!

OK so let me give some backstory. Before you see his results.
I did all my colors with pastels and the white is acrylic paints. The phone didn't really capture his back, but he has falling small snowflakes that go from his left shoulder down to his right hip. The glitter is almost invisible because its really fine, but in person you can see it. Still need to do the arms and frost. The tail is the same color, but I am using only acrylics to really make it stand out and look a bit "poisonous". The body blushing is light blue, so a bit hard to see, but it adds that frosty look :D

    2. Looks amazing so far! I was wondering what brush size you are using because if you want a crisp look snowflake, you may want to use a smaller brush (like a 1 to 000). Other than that so far so good!

    3. I am using a SUPER small brush (at least I think it is xD) but I think it is the acrylic paint consistency. Despite the layers of sealant I have used, I am still nervous that it will wipe off everything else...maybe if I use water to wash it off?

    4. He's absolutely adorable! I love the winter theme you're going with. I don't know if this will be helpful or not, but if you wanted to get some fine snow flecks you could try the toothbrush paint splatter technique where you put some diluted white paint on a toothbrush and run your finger along it. It makes some really nice snow!

    5. OMG I NEVER thought of that!!!!!!! I may try that on his arms or tail!! Thank you!!!

    6. Ahhhh, Tundra looks great! :D I do apologise for the hours of scrubbing to get his old blushing off, I tried to seal him as best I could to prevent staining.

    7. Well, you did a darn good job!!! Not your fault at all!!!! Meant he was secure lmao!!!!!

    8. Hahaha, well that's good then. I'd feel terrible if he'd ended up being stained.

    9. I love the snow on the forehead, it looks really good!

    10. Thank you so much!!

    11. The blue is so pretty~ Maybe a little bit of dark blue in select spots would make the blue you have now pop a little more.

    12. Good idea!!! i will try that!!!

    13. Maybe you could use a bit of acrylic medium to add to the paint for the snowflakes. I really like Liquitex, but I've never used them on a doll. I just thought it might make the paint for the snowflakes move a bit easier on your brush while preserving the pigment. It should work just fine if you're using Acrylic paint as it is for the coloring. :)
It's looking so amazing so far :) I can't wait to see the finished piece :)

    14. Good idea!!!! I will try that!!! I want to try to air brush my next blushing/paint job and I can use this for that as well!!! Thank you!

    15. I am absolutely loving this! He is just so sweet and the blue is gentler then the red. <3
      Really like this idea.

    16. You could try flow aid for finer lines. It thins the paint, plus I think it make it so it doesn't dry as fast. You can paint in thin layers this way for depth, and so it won't appear "clumpy".

The blushing is really cute though! I love the frosty theme.

    17. Oh thank you so much!!!!

That is a wonderful idea!! I am debating on getting some dolls to practice on, but I will take a look at flow aid!

    18. @rain2sunshine Doll Family sells heads just for this purpose! Here's one that's in stick for $20. Both Doll Family H and A sell heads for under 100. I have one I use for practice faceups~
It didn't occur to me to link it before, but here's what flow aid looks like. It took me a bit to find it the first time I went to buy it, so I thought I'd share. Sometimes it comes out fast. I've been considering getting a dropper to be able to control it more.
