Sep 15, 2009

    1. March 13-14, 2010
      Grand Prince Hotel, Kyoto, Japan

Please post event discussion here! :D

This event is open to Volks VS and VIP members. As with the 2009 event, Volks USA members will probably be able to apply as well. The deadline for VS/VIP members to apply is November 16.

      7:00-9:30 - Beauty Salon

      3/14:
      6:00-9:00 - Breakfast
      Hometown Dolpa Kyoto 7!

As for me, I'm definitely applying. The hotel is only a two minute walk from my apartment! :XD:

    2. I hope for a new SD10 girl and/or YoSD :D

    3. Is the dream FCS really 5000$?

Neverything you're so lucky that ye live so close XD!!

    4. Yeah but you so know they are going to require you to overnight in the hotel. ^_^;;;

      I don't know why they are even offering breakfast if that is the same day as Dolpa since unless they are holding Dolpa there instead of the same hall as last time, no one is really going to have time to get anything before they need to leave for Dolpa itself. ^_^;

    5. Yes it has been for awhile now though msd is slightly cheaper

    6. Yes, it was that much at the Tokyo Disneyland Event.

Thank you for posting this! I've been waiting for news of this event so I can plan to hopefully go. I had so much fun at last years event!

    7. Thanks for posting the info, neverything, and congrats on it being so close to you! :)

Izayoi - So, it figures that next year's event would be in Kyoto, right? ;)

    8. Thank you for all of the information, neverything!!! :D I hope you don't mind that I posted it on the News thread. :daisy

I really think (and hope) that this event is Alice in Wonderland themed!!! :chibi I've been waiting forever for Volks to release a version of Alice!! :dance I really hope I'm right! :eusa_pray

    9. Ehh that's pwicey T_T...but so many more options..does this happen once a year?

About the One-offs what kind of one-offs can we expect?

    10. Yes, so far it has only been offered once a year and usually to only 3-5 people I can't remember. I think the first year it was not so hard to get a space, but now it can actually be quite hard.

Again, I think you can have your dream FCS painted by any of the Volks artists so it's a bit like getting a One Off personalized to your taste cans clothes.

      I've never paid super close attention though because I prefer Yos and you can not order one. ^_^;

      Probably really nice One Offs, like the Tokyo Disney ones last year. I'd look through the gallery threads from that event since we had quite a few members who attended to get some idea. Probably this is going to be really similar to the Tokyo Disney event last year except hopefully different LEs to pre-order and it is in Kyoto not Tokyo. ^_^;

    11. Thank you for posting this neverything!
Volks is doing the dream FCS again? I wonder what people chose with that FCS...
I hope they release some beautiful limited!
Do they usually have themes for these beginning year events?

    12. Are they mailing info for this? I haven't recieved anything. :(

    13. I don't know if this belongs elsewhere, but since we can chat about this event, what are the pros and cons for an American going to this event in Kyoto?
All you veteran Japan travellers and attendees at last years Disney event, please weigh in! And talk about other particulars, such as ratio of prizes at the event to participants, etc.

      Pros -
Dolpa and all the fun shopping the next day

      Cons -
Kyoto harder for foreigners to traverse than Tokyo
      No direct flights to Kyoto
Expensive to stay at event hotel
Too many attendees to win a good prize at the event
      No one-offs except Memorials
      Sato closed for event

I'm not indicating that any of the above is necessarily true, so comments on above, and other considerations are appreciated!
I'd like to go myself, but wonder if it would be a big expensive trip (for 2) for naught!!! :sweat

      Alex

    14. Actually, I would both agree and disagree about Kyoto being harder to transverse than Tokyo. ^_^;;

Kyoto's streets are on a grid system while the best way to describe the streets of Tokyo is like spaghetti on a fork lol If where you want to go in Kyoto is near either a subway station, a train station, or you can figure out the damn bike parking, it's great to get around. The biggest problem with Kyoto is when you need to use their buses. The buses do go many many places, but they are often crowded and slow as molasses. When I go to Kyoto, I tend to walk in combination with the trains and subways.

Kyoto is a much much smaller city than Tokyo. Tokyo sprawls and you can easily travel for 30 minutes on the train or subway. Kyoto is much more compact. Despite there being several subway stops it's only about a mile or so from the shopping area on Shijo dori to Kyoto station. It's a flat easy walk. Things can be closer than you think in Tokyo, but again the streets curve and end suddenly making it much harder.

Where ever Volks holds their Yume events it is expensive to stay at the hotel they pick and would be true no matter where the location was. ^_^;; Personally, I would only stay in that hotel for 1 night and then transfer elsewhere. The biggest problem to me is Kyoto hotels tend to book faster than in any other city in Japan I've been to since it is a very popular tourist destination. However you can find affordable rooms there.

Technically, there are no direct flights from the US to Tokyo either. All flights to Tokyo fly into Narita which is about 1 hour from Tokyo by train or bus. ^_^;; For events in Kyoto one can fly into Osaka (KIX) directly from San Francisco and prob other cities on the West Coast of the US. You can also transfer for Itami which is closer to Kyoto. It's about 1 1/2 hour by train from KIX to Kyoto Station or a little shorter I think by bus.

Going to any event in Japan your chances of winning a prize are pretty small. *shrugs* that is just the way it is. I've been to NY Dolpa 3x and it's a much smaller event than a Japanese Dolpa and I've still not even come close to winning a postcard set lol Whether you win something or not is just how things go.

Sato is open the day of Dolpa. So if there is nothing you particularly need from Dolpa or you want a break and don't mind missing some of Dolpa you can go then. I went to Sato the same day as the Kyoto Dolpa this year so I could order a FCS for a friend. Or stay for a full week and go to Sato the next week end.

      One huge plus of Kansai, is it has a lot more interesting tourist sights a lot closer together than Tokyo. I love Tokyo, but it's really at its best as a shopping city. I go there to go to events, see good friends, and eat yummy food. All the best touristy sights are outside Tokyo like Nikko and Kamakura. Kyoto has actual interesting tourist sights. It's also a short and not very expensive trip to Nara. I feel like if you're going all the way to Japan you should try to find something to do other than just shop and make an attempt to do something a little cultural. ^_^;;;

    15. If I remember correctly, when selected for the dream FCS (I think up to 3 people can get to do this every year), you can request for any mold (including limiteds), any body, any parts, and any resin color for your doll. You may choose any Volks faceup artist to work on your doll. (Such as Mikey or Ciera) So for $5K, I think it's worth it.

    16. Did you get your Volks News? Is it possible that you've let your membership expire?

nathankatt, Kyoto is very easy to get around! All street and station signs are in English as well as Japanese. Some buses have no English, but the major ones that go to the tourist sites do. There is so much to see and do in the Kansai area, and in mid-March, the plum blossoms should be in bloom. And if you're able to extend your trip to the beginning of April, you'll get to see the cherry blossoms, too!

    17. Thanks for all of the details - thats the kind of info / debate I was looking to read.
For the Disney event, there were 2 sit down sessions, and you had to choose one over the other, correct? How big was each sit-down event - were there more people there than at a NY dolpa? Just trying to get the feel of the attendance size and of course, whether winning anything would be futile! I've been to a Tokyo Dolpa, and the amount of people putting in for one-offs and playing bingo is far larger than at a U.S. event, but those weren't 'formal' sit-down with a meal events...
      Alex

    18. Oh, I thought signs in Kyoto did not contain English! Thats good to know!
Also, I wonder if there will be limiteds for the hotel event, as well as limiteds for the Dolpa???
      Alex

    19. I agree with the people above. I went to Kyoto once in 2007, it was really easy to get around. You can land in Kansai airport and just take direct train to Kyoto. My sister and I stayed at the hotel that is exactly at the station, so it was off the train to my hotel in 1 min. My sister speaks no Japanese and she had no problem getting around.

I really hope to go back some day for it is just such a beauitful city

    20. The Disneyland event was huge, because it was the 10th anniversary. It looks like the Grand Prince event will be much smaller. I've never been to a NY Dolpa, but I would estimate there were easily 1000 people at each sitting at the Disneyland event. And they gave away.. probably about 30 seis and 30 reis at each sitting? But I don't think that's necessarily representative of how many they'll be giving away this time.

    21. I didn't go to the Disney event because I was attending two other events for another hobby in January and March of 2009 so Disney lost out. But...

NY Dolpa is like 250 people maybe 300 tops. Very few events of any type in Japan are that small. The Sato Owners Gathering Event on Sunday the 4th is considered very intimate and small because it is only about 100 people and I think there are no guests. (vs. some of the other Sato events which were limited to 100 but had guests.)

It won't be as large as a Japanese Dolpa, (Kyoto Dolpa is MUCH smaller than Tokyo Dolpa) but figure that Volks prob has a block of say 100 rooms and average 4 people per room.

Most train station anywhere in Japan have their names written in English. ^_^;; I HATE the buses in Kyoto. Many of them don't have English and it can be hard to catch what they are saying, but if you like to walk at all they are also easy to avoid. They're also just really really slow.

This hotel has some sort of concierge service out of Kyoto Station.

I don't think you should go based on your chances of winning a prize. ^_^;; No matter how big an event is you could just be lucky or you could just not be.

      Reasons to go are:

Kansai is a lovely area to sightsee
You can go to 2 events at the same time of the year
You want whatever doll the pre-order is going to be
You'd like to go to Dolpa

    22. I got the Nag Dolpa one...I'm guessing there has been one since?

      FML :sweat Gotta fix that.

    23. I just received a text from rkold who is in Japan for the Kobe cruise that the limited dolls for this event are going to be two new Yo's based on Alice in Wonderland.

    24. :D:D:D:D
*takes a few deep breaths to calm down*

Ok, bank account, are you ready for this?

    25. I know! I wonder what they'll look like! Maybe it'll be Alice and her sister~ I hope their outfits are pretty.

    26. I just spoke with Rachel, and said that they are two Alices in aqua and pale pink. She said the mold reminded her of the 4sisters Yo's in the eyes but that it has a different mouth.

    27. They do, they're so cute :D They kinda look like a combination of the 4 Sisters & Shyo to me! <3 They wouldn't let us take any pics, though...

    28. Just one addition on what I caught from the speeches at the cruise last night :)

The Yos on the sign were a sample of what would be available at the event. The theme is Alice in Wonderland, so there might, just might, be more character LEs announced as we get closer to the date!

      :eusa_pray:dance:eusa_pray

    29. Thank you for the info Kim! They sound so beautiful!!

    30. YAY!!! :chibi I KNEW it was Alice in Wonderland-themed!! :D The Yos sound so adorable, I can't wait to see pictures!!! :dance

    31. If people in the US want to attend this event please email VolksUSA and Volks International and let them know there is US interest in having this event open to US attendees. I would start doing it now so that they have time to open the event and it will then give possible attendees time to save for the trip.

The new yos in the promo pictures were super cute and I saw a few Japanese people take a few illicit pictures so some might show up on the internet. Both Alice twins had blond wigs that IMHO looked like mohair, the dresses were very pretty but did not look like the typical Alice pinafore set from what I remember.

    32. I think something was mentioned about needing to stay in the hotel to attend the event? Is this true?

    33. For the Tokyo Disneyland Event, Volks rented out the entire hotel and we had to stay in the hotel to attend the event.

    34. For both Huis ten Bosch events and Tokyo Disney you had to stay in the hotel where the event was being held. It would be reasonable to assume it will be the same for this event.

However, if you are just attending Kyoto Dolpa the next day you can pick your own hotel.

    35. >.< This means no more spending for me... gotta save and get alice in wonderland twins :D
      ~Pandora~

    36. rkold - Whats a good email address for Volks International? I emailed Volks USA and now I want to contact the Japan office - thanks
      Alex

    37. [email protected]

      :)

    38. Agh, now that I know this event is Alice themed, AND in Kyoto, I kind of want to go. :(

Just not sure if it could possibly work as far as schedule, etc. I wanna see those Yo's! ...Better yet, I WANT a Yo, lol.

    39. Pictures of limitied dolls and outfits are Here
I love both yo's dress!! They are so cute!!!:D

    40. [IMG]
...well, I think it is the time to save new clothes >///<
      I love the mad hatter!

    41. So nice to see pictures! I am excited to see bigger ones. The YOs look interesting. I hope they release some nice shoes :D

    42. puremilktea~ I know what you mean! I simply love the mad hatter's outfit!! Must. Obtain.
Sweetiemi~ I hope Volks releases so gorgeous shoes too~

Are the outfits going to be regular items and are they going to be a limited/lottery sort of thing? (please forgive my stupid question >__<).
The Yos are absolutely adorable I can't wait for more pictures!

    43. oh wow...the mad hatter outfit is awesome! I so wish I was going :3

    44. I can't tell from those pictures if I like the Yos yet or not. But the Queen of Hearts outfit is lovely.

    45. Alice looks like a Yuh and the white rabbit looks like a new sculpt... from what I CAN see... Not that it matters to me since I've been hunting for Yuh for like 2 years now hehehe...
      :sweat

I hope I can save enough money for this! I'd totally go!
      ~Pandora~

    46. Everyone who goes to the event and orders an Alice or a White Rabbit will get one. The outfits are limited so everyone who wants them might not get them. However, you have to buy the Alice and White Rabbit dolls to get their extra outfits.

    47. Are they going to release the Hatter as a doll as well???
Is that a William or a Reisner?

    48. Looks like Williams to me--

I want his outfit-- and the White Rabbit outfits. T__T

    49. He's Williams.
I would like to see more about the yosd.

The queen is new mold ?

    50. I've been trying to figure out what mold she is, but I'm not sure. I think she might be a Cristal on an SD16 body?

Is anyone else smitten by the White Rabbit? Because I know I am! :D

    51. Gah, I replied to the wrong thread! And I want both of the Yo's. T_T

    52. ohhh Cristal!
Time ago that I'm searching a head *_* looks like wonderful as a queen!

    53. That is a Williams wearing mad hatter outfit (for SD17????) I prefer that on SD13 more hmmmmmmmmmmm

the girl seems to be Cristal.

    54. The white rabbit reminds me a little of Ephialtes in 300. His face is ... weird. The little Alice is pretty cute.

I scoured the pamphlet to see if they mentioned what the other dolls were, but nothing.

The back of the pamphlet has a regular super dollfie logo for the Pink Cat outfit, SD 13 for the Hatter and SD16 for the Queen. So Hatter may well be an SD13 outfit after all.

    55. Here are some photos of the event flyer. Sorry for the quality, but I don't have a scanner...

monkeycancer, you are right about the outfits - The Pink Cat is for SD girl, the Mad Hatter for SD 13 boy & the Fair Queen is SD16 girl :daisy

    56. OMG! Thank you so much for the pics! :D
I really like YoSD girl and the outfits that she is wearing. (pink and grey)
Will those outfit come with the dolls?

The little girl looks a bit like Yuh to me! :)

    57. Wow, I agree. Little Alice does look a whole lot like Yuh. I actually though it WAS Yuh until I compared the two, and the eyes are the most noticeable difference. Yuh's don't point up at the sides like that. But they're still all so lovely!

I love that Volks used Cristal for the Queen. She makes such a regal lady!

    58. omg i love the outfits and alice's wig *_*

    59. I agree the eyes are a bit different. And Alice is too cute >.< I want her X2
The white rabbit is cute too but I'm afraid I don't like his nose :( It looks a little silly. I'd love to get one of him just for the outfit though.

Is it me or are there two Alice's ?

One of them looks like Tanpopo :D
