Oh, I hadn't thought that-- but aren't Midi hands just the same as regular MSD hands? Y'know, the Mickey Mouse gloves?
@JennyNemesis, after I saw your post last night, the ol' grey cells started rolling it around in my mind, and like eleniel and reitaism, I came to the conclusion that your Shiro might've gotten Yo-midi hands, too. Check out this DoA sale post for a Yo-Midi Reisner (second pic) -- http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...mal)-870-*QUICK-SALE-PRICE*?highlight=Reisner Chubby hands! Either someone at Volks goofed, or the seller decided to move it on, and very carefully re-wrapped him.
They could be Midi hands-- I guess they're not as big as I thought they were at first glance, I mean they just sorta startled me. ^^ But they are definitely not the same as the regular Yo default hands... broader at the base, longer length, thicker fingers. Here they are with Nava's regular Yo hand on the left... does anyone recognize them? And here's the two of them gesturing near a disembodied SD10 hand, which is so much larger I'm not sure how I managed to think it'd ever fit on a Yo wrist. I've already changed his hands out, anyway-- Nava only ever wears one default hand at a time, so Shiro can share the spare, and there's 7 or 8 other pairs to choose from (thanks to SQLab). Little dude sure is cute!
JennyNemesis, congrats on getting your Shirou, so sweet! Regarding the hands those are the Yo-Shirou hands specially made for him (Tsukasa also has special hands). I guess to keep the tradition with special hands the Tokyo Boys series (You can see their special hands are listed in their Dolpa page http://www.volks.co.jp/dolpa33/volks_sd02/)
Ahaaaa.... the pictures really don't show their hands too well, but I think I can see Shiro's special hand in the shot where he's carrying his sister's cat. OK, so they're just really odd-looking Yo hands that I wasn't prepared for! Thanks so much for the info Motiko. : Now that I think about it, of COURSE: Their special hand-poses are mimicking those of their SD13 counterparts. Tsukasa and Isao had special hands (which are now basic), and Shiro's were the scoop-shaped old style. Yo-Isao did not get special hands, but I see Yo- Tsukasa and Shiro have their special hand poses. Yo-Isao got a special wig, I guess that's why no special hands. ^^ Silly me for not thinking of that myself. By the way: can you (or anyone) read the Songs of Boys story text that's on those sales pages? They never released an English version, and I'd love to know what it says. (On Shiro's paperwork I see there's an excerpt of dialogue, and am dying to know what these chibis talk about...!)
Congrats, JennyNemesis! He's adorable and has those beautiful Shiro eyes! That's so funny about the hands though. If you want to try any other hands, Kaga's got an extra "bird" hand.
Thanks eleniel, I would love that! They always write such cute, sentimental little interludes for these guys. And thanks Kellyhime-- we do have a spare bird hand here (Nava never wears them both at the same time, unless he's doing his Nixon impression). We're quite spoiled for tiny option hands, in fact. But he chose to move into one of the fists & one of Nava's original defaults. I thought the pale lavender Shiro-eyes were a little starey at first, but I think I've come to like them; a pale-eyed goth look already suits him. :3 His 'welcoming' is a two-man Gallery show, of course-- I do believe they're already inseparable. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php/677037-BFFs-(Volks-Yo-SD-Isao-amp-Shiro)
JennyNemesis Ok here you go: Hey! Long time no see! Are you doing well? Chibi Tokyo Boys Story ~ The Song of Boys~ From the sky above the city, sunlight filters through the foliage. The boys are back! Shiro, the oldest son of the Tachibana family and his best friend Tsukasa! After the many days they spend together after school, sharing their hopes, the sunlight seems to glow with dreams and friendship. Tsukasa: hey, should we go back? Shiro: Yeah, to the park! Tsukapyon (nickname), do you want to talk to him? Tsukasa: yeah... Four years earlier, a new chapter starts! Chibi Shiro and Tsukasa finally debut! Tiny but enthusiastic, Please expect more of the Tokyo Boys story of friendship!
OMG thank you so much! eleniel you are the best. That is too cute... It sounds like them getting up the nerve to go talk to Chibi Isao for the first time or something. ^^ I hope someday they release another book in the Another Yourself series that continues all the Tokyo Boys story bits.
Aw, Jeez guys: I never meant to post & run – certainly not a bombshell like that I heard that Volks would be including Yo's in their FCS several years ago (at the last NYC Dollpa), but that orders would be very limited – only through Japanese Dollpa events, or as a "Sato Exclusive." I assumed that because Sunlight Skin was available for the other sizes, that you could order it for Yo's, too. I think the best people to ask (after the Volks Japan eMail) are those on the MP who advertise themselves as a "Personal Shopper" of sorts for the Japanese FCS's. I used the Search tool on the Japanese site, and there was nothing found for "FCS". I checked the Volks USA site and found this page: http://volksusastore.com/onlinefcs Again: I can only assume that you can chose Yo-heads for the Midi bodies, as well as the Midi-sculpts. If anybody is pre-registered for this year's Dollpa in L.A. maybe you will have more FCS info available to you. I hope that Volks give attendees the opportunity to order an FCS doll again. It certainly would seem that they timed the on-line FCS so that attendees could pick-up their dolls at the event. oriscany: I made a sweater & hat set for a friend's BiD: The arms are longer than a Yo's by a quarter- or a half-inch. But some people like it when the sleeves cover a doll's hands. The heads are also smaller, even with a wig on. Here is a shot of my Lillie wearing the hat I made for the BiD: Iplehouse Baby Sized "Turnip" hat -2 by Mandasmac, on Flickr Keeping in mind that Lillie doesn't have as big a head as the 4-Sisters Yo's: You can see that it doesn't even make it down to cover the full curve at the back of the head. I made the hat a whole inch shorter to fit the BiD head. It would definitely need some sort of hat pin or bobby pin to stay on a Yo.
reitaism, I know you were interested in Una, did you manage to pick one up? They are pretty reasonable on yJ! right now- especially with the yen to dollar. Did anyone else go in for an Una? I think her new make-up is absolutely divine. Someone at Volks must have heard the complaints about mount commas because they are gone now! I always love seeing Una(s) about!
I did not pick her up u_u;; My money is so tied up elsewhere. maybe down the road I'll find one for a ridiculous price and bite the bullet :\ but yo-una has always been a rarity it seems....
It's been a long time since I looked at the Yo discussion thread--everyone's wee ones are so adorable!! It makes me miss my little Ayumu, who is currently away getting a faceup. ; ~ ;
Yo-Shiro thinks he has picked the name Taki, so I'ma go with that unless he changes his mind later. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php/677883-Hi-Taki!-(Volks-Yo-SD-Shiro) Little dude has style and poise! But he doesn't seem to be as good a dancer as Nava is-- I'm not sure if it's just because he's strung differently, or if there's some difference in the normal-legged Yo body, compared to long-legged Nava. Taki is my first regular-size Yo. ^^ Since he's brand new, I will assume the body has the same engineering as Nava and I just need to tinker with him a bit. I think we will be emptying out the Yo-sized selection of rock-star clothing at Tata's Paradise soon.... we'll need a black leather jacket and some fishnet sweaters...
I just won a Y!J auction for Una 2nd makeup. ♥ I saw a friend's pictures of hers and all of my resistance failed me. I've wanted Una since her first Yo release. I thought I could be strong and resist... but that was not to be. I'm hoping to have her at my home soon~!
Hi everyone! I just won my first YoSD off of YJA, which I'm very excited about. She's a Nono on the origin body with fist hands. The fist hands have some interesting seam lines on the knuckles. Is this normal?
Congrats!! be sure to share lots of pictures of your new little one with us. ^^ And as far as seams go, I'm afraid I don't know. 8( If all-else fails, pictures may be helpful?
Thank you for the input ! Glad to hear this is normal!! I will definitely post a bunch of pictures of her when she arrives
Whereabouts on the knuckles are the seams?... I have a pair of fist hands that I don't think has seams at all, but then I don't have a very nitpicky eye for seams. ^^ Not unless they're really bad. Here are Nava and Taki getting all up in your face (as they are wont to do): http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...ys-(Nava-amp-Taki-Volks-Yo-SD-Isao-amp-Shiro) <= in gallery (A Tsukasa really would make the bad-boy trio, but they'll have to be patient till I track one down!)
I have a dolly visitor that is staying to be a sewing model. I finally got around to actually sewing something today for her and I thought I would share with the thread
My YoTenshi arrived today~! ♥ I'm so thrilled to have her. I'm not used to this size yet. I'm amused by everything. X3
Congrats, MilkyTea! She's adorable! ^^ I love the YoSD size, but I'm extraordinarily partial to VOLKS YoSDs - just something about their aesthetics. Your little girl looks a bit like the Four Sisters sculpt. o 3o
That's because she is the Four Sisters sculpt. ♥ Una is the whiteskin release of Four Sisters. I guess now they're "Five Sisters!" ;D (Or maybe she's a cousin, haha.)
Congratulations! She is darling. I love the new make-up too. I wound up caving and picking her up too... but you already knew all that from Flickr! Gotta love Una~
MilkyTea OK. I don't feel so silly now for thinking how similar she looks. It's curious that they should rename the sculpt, unless it's because she's a limited WS...?
It is a common naming convention for Volks to give NS and WS versions of the same sculpt different names, like Lucas and Chris, Kurumi and Miruku, Tohya and Kohya, Iris and Johanna, Alice and Lorina etc
Just like how Megu, Nana, Sara, and Kira all have their own names, so does Una. :3 Her default eyes and wig are different--not just her skintone. As @Kim mentioned, Volks commonly has different names for the same sculpt with different skin tones. (✿◠‿◠) Haha, yes, I did already notice! O(≧∇≦)O I hope you're enjoying your (additional) Una. (I'm always surprised by how many similarities we have between our dolls. There seems to be some part of our doll-related interests that are on the same "wavelength", so to speak. ヾ(o✪‿✪o)シ )
This little sweetheart arrived last week (July 3) I have been wanting her for about 5 years! Just love her face! Shizuku full2 by Rosanne, on Flickr
Just some drive-by Yuuya spam. I haven't been able to play with him much. Life takes priority over dolly fun times. I'd really love to get him some more clothes and stuff. His wardrobe needs expanding... Yuuya says, "Hisashiburi, minna-san~ ✌" by zaely mallow, on Flickr
Kyaa, Yuuya is such a cute little devil. : Where do his horns come from, are they Crobi? I just went on a Yo-clothes supply binge myself, but now I have to take pictures of all of it in the few daylight hours I have left. ^^ I love Tata's Paradise's selection of tiny rock-star-worthy separates!
JennyNemesis isn't he adorable?! I love him so much! His horns are actually from LeekeWorld. I'm still trying to find Yuuya's fashion. I kind of like him in semi-cute things and over-sized clothes, but I'm always worried about making him look too cutesy. I don't think he's a fan of it.
Yeah, it is sorta difficult shopping out there for any Yo who doesn't like the overly-cutesy baby looks or sailor suits! But it hasn't actually taken me that long to gather at least a beginning wardrobe, at just a few companies. I thought it would be harder than it was. ^^ 1:6 is a common enough doll size that you can find random stuff on eBay that just happens to work. (Nava has a lot of Ken clothes that someone was giving away for free at a swap-meet, so I've already saved a fortune on him!) This is a jumble of clothes from Bratz, Volks, & Dollmore.
I think your sense of style for your dolls is great, JennyNemesis~ They are always very distinct! You definitely do a good job searching out the particular things you like for them. Yuuya is very cute, spindlewood ♥ I'm sure you'll figure out how you prefer to dress him at some point. :3
Thank you so much MilkyTea! My Yos aren't babies, they're sort of ageless sprites... so I like putting these grown-up rockstar styles on them, because it just makes them seem like little sawed-off versions of their bigger roommates. There are so many great doll clothes out there. (It's storage that's the problem now. xD) My recent binge at Tata's Paradise included a perfect little Yo-sized microphone & stand. Add Nava and his B.C. Rich Warlock guitar, and we have a whole lotta metal going on up in here. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...nd-(Taki-amp-Nava-Volks-Yo-SD-Shiro-amp-Isao) => more in gallery!
Awww, that little guitar is so cute, JennyNemesis! X3 I know it's not supposed to be cute, but I can't help feeling that it's cute when I see a BC Rich Warlock so small!
Oh my GOODNESS it is so cute. The Most Evile Pointy Metal Guitar Evar, in chibi form! : I have no idea where it came from; someone in my building left it in a box of 'free moving-out stuff' in the lobby, many years ago, before I even started collecting dolls. I never had a doll-related need for it until Nava came along, et voila, they were made for each other. (There was also a tiny green BC Rich Mockingbird in the box, which I gave to my guitar-freak boyfriend at the time. Since he doesn't collect dolls, I wonder if he'd maybe give it back (because Eleniel is right, we do need a second guitarist now xD).) Haha, yeah, I'm pretty doomed, right? We need bass & drums! Well, there is always that Tsukasa to chase down, but I dunno if Volks is planning a Chibi Yukinojo....
Hi all. It's been a while since I've been on the forums, so forgive me if I've posted in the wrong place. I'm currently on a study abroad trip in Japan (yay!) and I happened across a second hand sale the other day. I was able to find two yosd bodies at what I thought were EXCEPTIONAL prices there and on impulse I bought them (one assembled, one not). On inspection, I saw that there were little "VS" symbols engraved in the body parts that I am attributing to volks. My question is, is there any way I could tell if these are legit and not recast? There was no certificate for either (the bodies seem old, and I assumed the owner kept the certificate for the heads). I can post pictures a bit later as reference. T.I.A
I've missed this whole thread at least. in lieu of better pictures Gus is here for the first time with BOTH his sisters. (at least both my boys are the same size lol) Family by JD, on Flickr
This here fellow followed me home from the Austin show....now Kirk has a Sith to duel. Anakin by clochette62, on Flickr
So sorry for the late reply (classes have been keeping me busy...and lighting in my room here in Japan is not too good). Also turns out that someone hacked my photobucket account so I have to wait until customer service gets back to me about that.....
Little Chika has joined my family. Her name is Christabell, but she prefers to be called Cricket. Her sister, Mika, is on layaway and hopefully will join us soon. chika_volks by Melody Martin, on Flickr
Finally back in the US! Here's the picture(s) I took while I was in Japan of the dolls. Now that I'm home and in better lighting (and could compare them to my dolls), I can see that they are SEVERELY yellowed so I'm assuming they're really old. Is there any way to tell from these images at least if I got two really old Volks bodies?
Congrats Opal! Yukisaboten- I'd say if the weight feels right, they're probably just very old bodies.
That's good to know. I've never owned a volks doll so I can only compare them to my other dolls. Thank you
I have a 09 Tanpopo and those definitely look authentic! Did you get them from Mandarake? Awesome place! And congrats! I hope you find the perfect head for those bodies lol
Whoo! Yes! (Mandarake is awesome) I meant to only buy one cuz I have a head floating around, but I now have a body without a head. Thanks again!
Mogi, like his sister is happiest outside in nature. he also just celebrated Seven years with me! Mogi by JD, on Flickr
