@MilkyTea SO adorable! I love their cute little open mouths. They remind me a little bit of Volks Hinaichigo but with an open mouth~ >w< Here I thought I was safe this season from Volks...

According to AngelDen, yes, they do, but the original release faceups make them look very different. There's a one-off release of Mika that was done this past spring that shows her looking much more like Ken.

 

Yua and Ayu are live on the Volks site! I am now waiting for a little Yua girl

 

Congrats! I also ordered Ayu and Yua-- first Volks clickwar I've done in a while and way more stressful than I remember Setsu-chan didn't want me to add Yua to my cart or complete checkout but I got through in the first 5 minutes by some miracle~ Looks like there wasn't that much need to rush, but I didn't want to risk it with such a cute WS YoSD haha, they seem to sell so fast!!
In love with the fact that Ayu has 16mm eyes! I guess Yua should be able to take that size as well. Such huge eyes for a little tiny doll!

 

So one can order from the volks site and they will ship? you don't have to wait for the USA lottery? I've not ordered from the volks japan site before

 

Volks JP site ships internationally. You just make an account and put in your info; as long as you're able to purchase things internationally via card/PayPal etc you're good to go. I purchased both of mine through the JP site, it's much cheaper than purchasing through Volks USA as well (on top of no guarantee you'll win the lotto entry)

OneMoreLight, I believe Yua and Ayu are the same sculpt (that's how it's usually done), so the eye size should be the same. Yua reminds me a bit of LTF Flora with her big, wide-open eyes. So cute.

My order is timestamped at 10:02, so hopefully she'll be in the first group sent. The last time with L&L, I wasn't able to order until the next morning, so they weren't shipped until a couple of months later when they got the second batch. Felt like forever. This time I set three warning alarms.

Elf-ears, we'll have to get a pic of the girls together so it's the skintonee set. I'll make sure she's part of the crew I bring to the panel at CCI

 

This was my assumption, since Volks has a long history of doing this. Yua's defaults are 14mm but as far as I can tell she should be the same sculpt as Ayu so I'll give her 16mms eventually.

It's interesting to get a Yo directly from Volks with zero clothing included...all the others have had at least a chemise or undies/top. Luckily she didn't stay naked long. She did come with her adorable wig, I'm glad that was still included. It suits her very well.

 

Congrats on a cutie! Love her dress. Do you happen to remember the designer?

 

Thank you, I made that one several years ago for my grey-blue Bambicrony when she was still actually blue. Alas, no more...time is no friend to french resin, so this girlie claimed it.

 

Does anyone know if the yotenshi can use magnetized wings from other companies or had any luck making diy ones? I think it'd be cute to have an angel and devil yotenshi set!

I'm so excited, I was able to nab a YoSD Dai/Mako! From what I can tell, that sculpt is pretty rare, and I already love Dai/Mako in MSD form. Been really wanting to get some YoSDs so I'm super thrilled!

 

That is awesome! I also think that's a rare sculpt and don't think I've seen very many. Please post photos when it arrives! That face mold always reminds me of blowing bubbles. So sweet.

 

Finally posting a pic of my girl

Hinaichigo has been my grail tiny since 2009 and I finally got her last month. I am not into tiny dolls at all — she’s the only one I’ve ever badly wanted! I love her so much!

Today some new items for her arrived from DDE, a wig, dress, shoes.

The teddy bear I am almost certain is from Muffy Bear. Someone gifted one to me when I was like 10 or something and I think the mini bear came with her. Mini Muffy belongs to Hina now

I would like to update her face-up but it might be some time before that happens. Same with sewing some clothes for her. She was so floppy when I got her (pretty sure she still had her original string) but she stands and poses so much better now after giving her some fresh string.

Excuse the not so good lighting in my room (it’s raining out now), hopefully I will have some better pics in the coming weeks.

A question about her left hand -- I don't recognize it as Volks. Is it an SQLabs, or -- ?

She didn’t come with her original hands, but two other sets.

One set is clearly a matched pair — when placed together the fingers and thumb form a heart.

The pair she has on now? Yea now I am not sure. I had assumed there were a set. However while looking this small up, I found that Volks has a pair where both hands look like the “I love you” in sign language. Only one of her hands is like that though (the one on our left, her right)

Now I have no idea what set the other hand is from I can take a better picture of it later.

I’m really curious about this other hand now lol. Or if any of her hands are even Volks.

EDIT:

The resin matches are close enough that I didn’t even notice that these two hands were likely from different brands.

The hand in the pic, Hina’s right, seems to be YoSD hand 03 from Volks. Her left hand is SQLab YHD-12. The other pair of hands she came with seem to be YHD-11, also from SQLab.

Now that I am having a closer look, the Volks hand is definitely a little bigger. Oddly, it’s also a worse resin match — it’s definitely newer than Hina. The SQLab one matches her yellowed resin much better.

I am totally unfamiliar with SQLab, but found the pics and info on Luts website. The resin definitely does not match my Kid Delf. Even though she’s an old doll now (bought her in 2009) she never had a pinkish/peach tone in her resin like the hands do.

 

@Leenah, thanks for responding, and all your research. I have a couple singlet SQLabs Yo hands (but different poses), so when I saw your Hinaichigo's hand I was pretty sure it wasn't Volks, so SQLabs was my next guess.

with that, does anyone know if the VolksUSA store ever carries yo-sd hands? Or are these something I’ll have better luck looking from Japan?

 

@Leenah Volks JP/Global only tend to stock them after a Yo-SD release – the doll will come with a sheet with a QR code link, which other people can use. Volks don't seem to mind if people order the option parts.
Yo-SD hand parts also often crop up in Japanese secondhand sales

though it occurred to me that I should probably try to source some older ones anyway since Hina is a pretty old doll (from 2007). I’ll have to do some research to figure out which ones would work/what I want and go from there. I’ll have a look at some second hand sales from Japan for sure

 

Oh gosh that is kind of tempting for me to try... SD13 Shiro was my first BJD (still have him!), and it would be fun to have his Yo version, too. And yeah, I also wonder if it's updated joints, though it isn't a deal breaker for me.

 

Best Selection lotteries are dolls from when they were originally made, so I believe there will be no updates to any parts or extras unless obvious damage has occurred – the Shizu and Claude I have still had their outfits sealed in their original packaging. Shizu came with both the normal and heel legs, which used to be standard for GrG releases, but is no longer the case.

The only time I can recall when a Best Selection doll had items replaced was a version of Ami or Jun whose pleather skirt had degraded over time and was replaced.
This degradation is the one thing to be aware of with Best Selection dolls: my Claude's enamel-style pleather shoes were fine, but the elastic straps (like a hair tie) on Shizu's sandals had degraded beyond the point of use. Pleather in particular doesn't seem to keep well in humid climates like Japan, and I've heard keeping it sealed without being able to "breathe" also shortens its lifespan.

 

Wow yes thank you, I had no idea! My lapse from the hobby started before they were doing those. That's kind of exciting, they've just been sleeping in a warehouse somewhere.

And yes I am in Florida and can confirm humidity destroys pleather. It degrades much faster in a humid climate.
