[Adopted] Volks Super Dollfie ~ SD, SD13, SDGr, SD16, SD17 & FCS - Part VI

Aug 4, 2012

1. I'm guessing we got moved? >.> Oh well... Subscribing to the new thread nonetheless...

2. Ditto....subscribing too! ;) Tick-tock, tick-tock....still patiently waiting for word on Yukinojo...threads come, threads close, time marches on....and still we wait. Anyone wanna celebrate the 6th part of this thread by joining me in a chorus of "Someday My Prince Will Come"? LOL!

Juli DC :)

3. The old thread closed? So confused, haha!

Anyway, I wanted to say "hi" since I've never actually posted in the Volks thread before!~

Here is Issei, my Ryoya! He was my dream doll, and I was lucky enough to be able to buy him back in 2010~

4. Cute boy you have there! Cheers for another Ryoya!!! I love mine to bits... I'm still working on modding his lips. XD

5. Ooh, what a pretty Ryoya, Miku_Miku! I just sold mine recently... Couldn't make him work for me, but he is a super beautiful sculpt. :)

fransyung - You'll have to take lots of piccies once he's all done!

Speaking of which, I've gotta get pics of some of my boys one of these days. I'm thinking that when my FCS 38 head shows up, I'll do a family photoshoot.

6. @Fran, I am intrigued - what will your boy look like? Ryoya's lips are one of my favorite features on him already. :fangirl: I don't know that I've ever seen one with modded lips before. (And Miku Miku, I love the way yours looks in glasses!)

I have a driveby spam link this morning! Kimo (SD17 Shiro) and his Limhwa friend Stavros finally got down to the beach at Santa Cruz, to shuffle through the seaweed at low tide:

http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...Volks-SD17-Shiro-amp-Limhwa-tan-Mano-img-hvy)

This guy is just too cute and too much fun to work with. I was terrified of getting sand in his joints, or scratching that fancy Shadow resin on barnacles, or faceplants into seaweed, but he came through like a trooper. That's one of the reasons I love Volks guys - they're so solid! They take almost any adventure you throw at them.

7. Well... The last time I worked on his lips to remove the black commas, there was some stain left. So I worked on it one more time last night, and then sprayed him with MSC. ^^ The lips are now sealed. And I'm still thinking on painting on it. Not modding them, though. Just modifying the colors, maybe. XD

8. Jennynemesis- I love beach photos! I live so close to the beach, and I still haven't done a shoot there yet. I think I'm a little scared of weird looks from the Pismo Beach tourists.

I'm also waiting on my Yukinojo... I just would like to have a ballpark estimate of when we can expect him!

9. @fran, ahh, a mouth-corner-ectomy. ^^ Now that his lips are sealed, I hope to see him again soon.

@tetradeka, I would pull teeth (the good ones) to see some Volks boys on Pismo Beach! Especially Nouveau Yukinojo with his nouveau muscles, in those little boxer-briefs. Do it! :D If tourists look at you funny, pretend you don't speak English.

I ran into a grizzled wetsuit-clad local & his fizzgig of a dog while I was photographing Kimo & Stavros in that secluded cove-- dude was more concerned with the tide than he was with strange art-projects on his beach. He didn't even seem to notice there were two giant dolls lying on a towel behind my tripod. California is great like that-- you can almost always rest assured that you are not the weirdest thing people have seen all day.

10. I emailed VolksUSA and they told me they had no estimates of when they expect him :(

11. ROFL... XDDD

About my Ryoya... I will surely post his after-surgery photos. XDD

12. Hi!!! 8) I've had my F38 head for quite awhile now, but he's only now finally going off for a faceup. :D I'm so excited!! >u< I can't wait to see how he turns out. He's my favourite Volks sculpt~~~ :aheartbea!!! I'm hoping to be able to get him a SD17 body, but until that is realised, he'll be sharing my in-coming Hahwa's body. :3

13. Ah, Ryoya spam... always a Good Thing. I do love that face.

Here's mine, Cassian. Youngest of my trio of stage magician brothers. (Cordell and Cammeron are a Date and a Kamimura-)

14. What a delicate beauty! Mine never looks that ethereal. <3 Ryoya, Masamune & Minoru are all of-a-style who would make a great lineup.... all those slim slouchy bodies, pointy noses & sharp cheekbones. Do you have a pic of all 3 of them together?

15. Not yet... I really do need to get off my butt and take a few of the brothers together someday.

16. Uwaaah another Ryoya... Along with Date and Masamune, would be the Three Musketeers! XD

17. Does anyone have a photos of Reisner and Williams together? I often get them confused and I am not sure why.

18. I can't provide pics but I think a good place to start is to look on here and Angel Den at the pictures of SD13 Cecil. Reisner is more like a matured version of Cecil. Reisner has a more pert mouth shape, more swoop & point to his nose, a sharper chin and cheekbones, and more of a cat-eye shape.

Williams is not based on anyone, but he is part of the same story line. Williams has a fuller jaw line, a broader, larger nose, fuller lips, and a squared off eye shape.

fransyung may still own both of them, maybe she can post her boys. *pokepoke*

19. Williams is the love-child of SD13 Tony and a Soom Namu. :fangirl:

20. Brightfires~Beautiful Ryoya you have there....love his delicate faceup.

Jenny~Love that shot of Kimo. I am thinking of taking my Levi to the beach once he arrives too!

21. LoL... I heard that... XD Here's Ethan (Williams The Young Ensign) and Nathaniel (Reisner the Desire for Revenge)... Again, sorry for the absence of clothings... XD They look similar because they were created by the same sculptor...

22. And here my twin Reisners so you can see the difference between the Young and the Older Reisner... Nathaniel on the left doesn't have a scar but his eyes are larger. Nathanael on the right has a scar on a closed eye, and his open eye is narrower than his brother. ;)

23. Nice comparisin shots Fran!!!!!

24. Thanks, Carmen... And one more to show the pretty scar... XD plus DarkRu's older Williams, Faldio, who claims Nathanael as his property... ;) But of course he can only get close when Nacchi is sleeping like this.

25. [IMG]

Here is a slightly older pic of Shinji, will have to get him another type of outfit. Waiting on his Leekeworld wig to arrive. Think I put this outfit on him backwards:doh

26. LOL Namu with that nose!
I love both boys. I am not sure who I love more. I saw Williams and Reisner at a meet up once and I couldn't tell them apart, it was really embarrassing. I was trying not to oogle them.
Fransyung- thanks for posting such beautiful pics.

27. If you can recognize a Namu's nose in a crowd, then you'll be able to spot a Williams! He has that big hefty nose. Reisner has a pointy little profile, and I think chubbier cheeks.

And if you still can't tell em apart, just ask the owner. No cause for embarrassment-- nobody recognizes every sculpt. (I've been staring at Volks dolls for 7 years and I still can't tell hardly any of the female or Yo sculpts apart!)

28. Gah, Williams and Reisner. I've been gradually falling for these guys for a long time now. Amusingly, the more I like them the less I like Cecile. I guess it's just an example of tastes changing over time.

29. I love that big nose of Williams! I'm not quite sure why, but there is something about him that keeps pulling me back in to wanting one.

And your boys look great, fransyung~

30. so many williams pics... i never really liked him that much but you guys are making me like him!!! subscribing to this whole thread has just been really bad for me haha. i'm just starting to like all these molds i didn't think about before.

31. Williams and Ryoya are two of my most favorite boys along with Reisner!
I really enjoyed those spams above and in the previous page <3
Here have some more Ryoya and Williams ;D

32. this might be a dumb question to ask, but is anyone aware of any posts with good body comparison photos? there are so many volks bodies now, and it's hard for a non-owner like myself to figure out which ones are which, which ones are how tall, how many joints they have and where, what they look like unclothed, etc. :(

i kind of have a good idea of sdgr girl vs. sd13 girl and sd girl now, but i was doing a search yesterday for sdgr boy body pictures and couldn't really find one, i guess because "sdgr body" is not a very specific search term. i also don't know what sd16 and sd17 look like in comparison... :(

33. You're welcome... ^^

And eleniel : I'm missing Cecile. >.> He is needed to complete the circle~ XD

34. This is the first time I'm posting in this thread... hello everyone! ^_^

Well, I am obsessed with Ryoya. =o=
He was my first encounter with Volks obsession, and I could deal with giving up on Williams as an unattainable back then, but when I saw Ryoya come out, WOW.
I literally just fell in love the moment I saw him sitting cross-legged in the promo photo, with that adorable slouch and boyish smirk.

When I heard about his price, I flat-out declared it was INSANE, and I wasn't about to sell an organ for him.
But he just kept on haunting me like an ex. :/ (An abusive, attractive, very appealing ex. haha.)

I ended up buying him from ebay a few months after he was released at an even higher price - and I just wanna hit myself over the head for even trying to walk away that first time.
Have never loved a sculpt so much. I totally don't regret it. Gosh, I'd get 10 of him if I could.

(Eventually, I got Williams too. =o= *facepalms* )

Just thought to share my own grail, Endo, my Ryoya
[IMG]

Love your dolls. :3
<3 Anj

35. It's nice to see Endo again, Anj... Where have you been? XD I see that he finally has his own face up now? XDDD

36. turbow~ Gasp!!!! Gorgeous boys!!!!

propertyoftheuchiha~Ryoya is one Volks doll I regret not getting.....Love your Endo. He is beautiful!!!!

37. Whew... I'm back again >,<;;;
So much wonderful photos while I'm absent O_O and the discussion room moved too...
Love all the Ryoya, Reisner, and Williams btw XD

@fransyung: sorry nee-san Fall always afraid of Nacchi when he's open his eyes :sweat

@turbow: what kind of body did you use for your boys? O_O *curious*

38. @DarkRu - They are on Crobidoll B-line boy bodies :>

39. No matter what I do... he always ends up looking like a bully. (>_<)

40. There is nothing better than browsing the beautiful photos in the Volks thread. *happy sigh* I just love this place so much.

Miku Miku: RABUUU~ Your Ryoya needs cuddles now. Especially in that sweater.

JennyNemesis: How do you have such gorgeous boys? Seriously, every time you post pictures of them, I just want to come over to your house and be a crazy, pervy doll lady with you. And that NEVER happens. XD Your tan Shirou is to die for.

Brightfires: Love your Ryoya! I agree, he looks very delicate and sweet.

fransyung: Your Reisners! They look amazing! It's astounding how even the eye placement is perfectly identical in both. (And your Ryoya! He does look like a bully! Dangerous and beautiful!)

turbow: I can't get over how different your Ryoya looks! There's something so soft about his faceup that makes him look unlike any Ryoya I've seen! Maybe it's the lack of the obvious smirk. I adore him! <3

propertyoftheuchiha: Speaking of that smirk... Augh! *faints* That silver wig of love and those dark eyebrows... I'm in love~

I am so long overdue on the gushing of everyone's fine dolls. Threads behind. Please take this kind offering I leave to you of my Morning Star.

41. Wah. The Morning Star always slays me. :staggering backwards, clutching palpitating heart:

Mmmmkay, here's a blast-from-the-past, resurrecting the conversation about when Volks introduced headplates. I have a new-to-me arrival here--a pre-headplate Lucas.

When he got here yesterday, he was toting the paperwork from the Hiroshima Showroom Limited Lucas (a.k.a. Lucas 3rd), from June 2003--yet he is pre-headplate. My (AFAIK) Hiroshima Chris, released in the same June 2003 event, is also pre-headplate, though I don't have his papers to verify exactly which Chris he was to begin with.

Hmmm, so it may be that at least some Volks dolls were released without headplates as late as June of 2003. I just love trivia like this . . . anybody up for a discussion of ancient Volks peg-and-socket hands and feet?

42. Ahh, Cynthia! I was JUST looking at your gorgeous Lucas in the database thread! Talk about be-stilling my beating heart! I love how his coloring has mellowed out to an almost-tan! Combined with his hair and eyes... He's perfect!

And I think you're right -- I've read in various places that even dolls from 2003 were created without headplates. I'm sure we can get some folks with other Hiroshima Chris and Lucas dolls to confirm.

Lucas. :aheartbea

By the way, the Morning Star sends his love. ;D hehehe!

43. Slain. Slain, slain, slain. ;)

Usually my pictures come out on the cool end of the spectrum (it's the combination of cool-toned paint on the living-room walls and the blues in the big painting I use as a backdrop) . . . but this guy's faceup is so warm-toned that it does make him look beautifully Sunlight, in spite of me. In person, he isn't quite as mellowed as all that, but I love the way the camera warms him up.

I am sooooooo lucky!

If headplates were only phased in sometime during 2003 . . . hmmm, then I suppose they would first have turned up on heads that were newly sculpted in that year? Headplates might only have been added to the older sculpts as/when they were reworked and released as Renewal versions?

44. Cynthia, perhaps Volks just was very slow to redo the Lucas sculpt for that release? We already know they didn't bother to update Bianka/Rose from Momoko for their release because Bianka and Rose don't have magnet headcaps like all other LE's released at that time.

45. Cynthia: You are definitely lucky! I love the creamy colors of older Volks dolls, especially coupled with warm faceups. Love, love, love him!

Kim: Volks should pay you for storing all of this knowledge in that noggin of yours. XD Seriously! If I had more time, I'd totally compile everything I've learned just in the past few weeks in regards to older sculpts and put it all in one place. (Who did or didn't have faceplates, who are the exceptions, who had magnets, which newer dolls don't and why, etc...)

46. I actually don't think they've switched all of their heads over to magnet headcaps. My F33, who was a brand spankin' new sculpt when I ordered him in 2007 didn't have magnets, and I am trying to remember if my F38 had magnets when I ordered him in 2008 around the same time Bianka/Rose were released. I only had him for a week so I don't remember much about him beyond disliking him straight out of the box. He was just entirely too happy and smiley and pleasant looking with ne'er a smirk to be found.

My bet is there are FCS heads who still come with the rubber band system, and any of the standards who didn't have renewal in 2010 or more recently.

47. -drools- Your boy is gorgeous!

And that is really interesting information about how he's from 2003 and doesn't have a headplate. I wonder if all the Lucas/Chris/Kai versions had late headplate starts? I have a Lucas (in Picadilly Circus), which is the 2nd release version, and he doesn't have a headplate either. I'm not sure if he's ever had one though. I haven't found anyone else who has this version of him.

And speaking of Lucas, I can't wait until mine returns! He's about halfway down the commission list now and I'm getting so antsy! I have to do a few more things to his body before he returns though. I bought the attachment piece from VOLKS (to make the head easier to put on and remove), but it doesn't fit perfectly into the body's neck hole. The body's neck hole is oval shaped and the piece is a perfect circle, so I have to dremel the neck hole to make it fit. x.x Hopefully it's not as scary as it sounds.

48. Oh, and I just wanted to add that, because I was so curious about headplate information on my Lucas 'in Piccadilly Circus', I emailed VOLKS USA a while back, asking if they knew if he had come with one, and this was the response I got:

Thank you for contacting us about this.

Unfortunately we are unsure of whether or not those dolls
came with head plates. It has been quite some time since
their release and since VOLKS USA was not established at
that point we are not as familiar with them.

49. Well . . . we could all volunteer to do a group Sumika Times blog entry on SD history, ne? :aangel:

Kim, I'd bet that you're 100% right--Volks doesn't bother to resculpt and make new molds on a routine basis, only for Renewal (and FCS renumbering) releases.

Does anybody have a SwD Lucas? I wonder whether those had headplates yet--presumably it's a new/reworked sculpt that would have been cast from new molds, not the old un-plated Lucas mold. SwD Lucas was released (twice) in December of 2003, once at DP 10 and once at Seoul Dolpa 2.

The next Lucas/Chris release was the Black Cat/White Cat pair in 2006. I'm assuming that those were renewal versions of the sculpt, and so would have the headplates, but can anyone confirm or refute?

Now, of course, instead of working on my fall class syllabi, I'm wanting to go around the house and snatch all my Volks dolls' wigs off to see which have headplates and which don't.

50. @Cynthia, you guys should ask Nathankatt - he has more Chrises and Lucases than I have hairs on my head. Maybe he can help!

@Timchener, come over any time! I'll have a pitcher of margaritas ready. :D PS. The secret of life is to spend at least 1 hour a day indulging your Crazy Pervy side.

51. Black/White Cat Lucas/Chris do have headplates, and magnetic headcaps. I've got both of them, and can confirm that.

52. Yep... I don't have either in my own collection, but I've heard my friend Mino grump more than once about her guys' coming unglued. Apparently her Lucas is absolutely determined to lose his. o_0

53. Cynthia~ Your Lucas is so lovely. Brings back so many memories of when I first got into the hobby in 2005!!!!!

54. Baby, yes. You can count on it, if I'm ever on that side of the country, I will be knocking on your door with half-dressed boys and my chest heaving anxiously. ;D

55. That visual made me laugh! Half-dressed boys. haha
