Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXXI

@I<3MySD Congrats on snagging her! I saw her on Mandarake and was very intrigued, but passed as I already have an F-03. I agree that her faceup looks very old Volks but the eye mod is really a mystery. I’ve not seen modded sculpts released as one-offs, but perhaps Volks was feeling adventurous? Anyway, she really is one of a kind!

 

Ah I am grateful you passed on her so I could bring her into my home!

I know that there was a recent Romantic Glance Williams that had very distinct teeth which appeared modded compared to the base, but that may be comparing apples to oranges! I wish that Volks had all of their one offs cataloged in general. There were so many from the past that are now just lost to time!

 

She is marvelous, @I<3MySD! What a mysterious treasure. Faceup is giving me Kyon vibes. I wonder if emailing Volks International would be helpful.

Is it normal for the information in your profile to be different from the regular VolksUSA Webstore and the event pages? I noticed that when I'm in the event page, my past orders don't show up and my log-in/log-out status is separate (e.g. I can still be logged in to the regular VolksUSA site, but I'd need to log in again if I go to the event pages).

Tried e-mail Volks to ask if this was normal but no response.

Hmmm.. I have f-28, just put them to each other, and from my opinion I don’t see any really visible difference.. same size head, same nose. Really. I was not sure, never noticed any difference btw them

Lorina 2 is a different sculpt. I currently own her, but used to have both her and Jo March and can confirm this. If you guys want the close up pics of both girls, I can try and dig em out so you can see the differences. I hadn’t before because I simply assumed it had already been done.

 

I would be very grateful if you could do that! Maybe I haven't searched hard enough, but I haven't found any side by side comparisons yet.

I apologize if my original post was confusing. Again, my original post was absolute speculation on the possible head/colour variations and none of it is confirmed fact.

From Volks website : Lorina 2 (March 2020) wording, the title is listed as "Lorina" and in the captions on her photos, she is called "Lorina 2".

On Alice : Listed as "Alice" and in the captions, it says "Head shape is the same as "Lorina", but the skin color is different."

I would hope that Volks would mention in the sales listing if either doll was a variation (aka Alice 2 or SWD Lorina 2) but ... ?

Could Alice's lipstick colour give us the illusion of Alice 2? I guess the mystery will be officially solved when the girls are received and people can confirm the head number inside. Could Volks' have used the wrong model for the display?

No, but the new Sweet Dream Lorina (always NS) and Beth (always WS) appear to be the same head sculpt. We will not have confirmation of this until someone can compare the sculpt numbers inside their heads.

 

I had never even known that there were two versions of Lorina So anyone else feeling confused you have a friend lol.

Yes, I thought it was one of the anime-type resin FCS sculpts too. Then I saw the back of the head and realized it's a DD head. This is possibly one of the early DDs that were strung and thus DDs were grandfathered in to DOA?

 

At least I wasn't the only one who thought that @Daniel Falls! And I'd assume it's the strung DD too

Yes. It would have been very fitting to release them in summer. Fingers crossed it will be either some sort of Fall or Winter event this year.

 

@Roterwolkenvogel Oh yes, those sales photos are terrible tbh. Completely covered the actual doll in frills. I'd assume there would be some DD collectors who'd love to own one of the first strung DDs. I wish the seller would post full photos of the actual doll.

Looks like a DDH-01 on a DD2 body to me. The knees are definitely not DD1 knees, so it has to be newer. I can't be positive it's DD2 without checking out the shoulders though.

Edit: the knee backs look very DD2, but the DDf-3 also has similar knee backs. I will assume they're not listing a very recent DDf-3 though for $10!

I don't think DD1 bodies are in particularly high demand! I notice a lot of DD collectors will upgrade the body if they get an older DD. DD1 body dolls also not too hard to come by and pretty cheap.

 

Switched around an outfit and wanted to share since I feel like I never do anything anymore.

 

Despite being in the hobby for almost 15yrs, I never really looked into Volks so please forgive me for sounding like a newbie... But what's the difference between Lorina and Lorina II? I tried looking it up but I'm coming up a little short. If this was already asked, I apologize.

Lorina II has an open mouth with teeth showing. That is the only difference.
If you scroll up a bit, you'll see a comparison photo of Jo (aka Lorina) and Lorina II.

 

I thought that was the only difference that I was seeing, but I wasn't sure if it was just a differently painted faceup or if the mouth was actually sculpted more open

 

Watching through this video Volks just posted:

• Red wool coat with newspaper
• Black dress with triangle collar and braid loops
• Blouse Collection

are all dolls that appear to be Lorina 2.

Stitch line dress does have teeth but isn't marked Lorina 2 and the teeth are also much deeper
The new dot dress Alice also is not marked Lorina 2 and has deep teeth like stitch line dress

So no SWD Lorina/Alice 2 yet that I can tell! They seem to have all the designs done though so who knows if they'll add a SWD Lorina 2 later.

This collection is so cute though! I wish they were more accessible! Hopefully all of them will be released eventually.

I also like how red wool coat with newspaper has one jointed ankle and one unjointed ankle in the photo.

lorina 2 has a more open mouth and teeth, she is from the junichi nakahara collab. Was created from this collab, to mimic junichis art.

 

ahhhh all of them are so gorgeous!! I hope this means that all these will be slowly released in the future

 

@nyaaain, thank you for the video! The clothes and accessories are very much like vintage Barbie's first wardrobe -- which was sewn in Japan. And Lorina II's ponytail wig gives her a vintage Barbie look (Swimsuit by beachgirl on DoA.)



Also, per earlier discussion about sculpt numbers, I checked the heads of my Alice, Jo March and Lorina II for their sculpt numbers. Alice and Jo are the same -- "92". Lorina II's is rather different -- ":153", with the two dots like tiny open circles.

Still unsure if I have to put her on sd16 or sd13 body ? Can I see if anyone have her on sd16 or sd13 ? I can imagine the size difference but how will she look good or not

Congratulations on your Suigintou arrival! Don't be too hasty to change out her face-up until you've lived with her for a bit. Also, Suigintou originally came on an SD13 girl body, and depending on the face-up style, looks in balance.

I have a Suigintou on an SD16 girl body, and at times I feel she looks a little "pin-headed", because her sculpt proportions are more youthful/childlike. However posing, wigs and face-ups can camouflage this.

Yes this is how I felt when I saw some instgram photo of her on sd16 i thought maybe because of the editting. I felt something was wrong but you just wrote it
I guess will go with her on sd13 body better for me
Also, about make up I am not sure, my biggest issue holding me down that most make up artist I might send to are located abroad and none replied to me if they are open for commission or not
I think I will try to style her first then decide if I should change her make up or not
