Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXXI

    1. Dang, they’re beautiful. My wallet cries....(

    3. I think Anna and Elsa are cute! I would have expected a more "icy" and light feel for Elsa's outfit (I'm surprised by the silver glitter shirt under her dress, it's light blue and sheer in the movie), but I think they're lovely. The DSDs had, in my opinion, kind of an alien look about the face, so I'm glad these look as nice as they do.

    4. I love Anna's and Elsa's sculpts! Anna's smile is so cute. Her outfit also hits the mark. I'm slightly disappointed with Elsa's dress not being embellished with patterns on the sleeves or the bodice but that's nothing that cannot be customised.

It will be a tough mission to get them if they're limited to Japan and USA only again :(

      • x 2
    5. I like them a lot, but at the same time... not that much? They seem to have an overbite on the photos from Dolpa, and I'm not a fan of that. I think Volks did an excellent job on them, moreso on Anna in my opinion - her expression is perfect (but she should have more visible freckles, I think). I wish Elsa had more sass, her face seems rather neutral.

That's what I'm worried about too. At this point it is safe to assume they will be USA/Japan exclusive and be pleasantly surprised if they're not -.-

    6. Man, I love both Anna and Elsa so much. Anna has this cute smiley expression and Elsa just screams SMUG. I am not too into Frozen so if by some miracle I got them I'd probably ditch the fullsets and just make them OC's.

    7. I love Anna so much!! I hope I can get her somehow:atremblin
Either way, I really hope to see some repaints! I see a lot of potential in them.

Eta, @MsPatricius I actually love the little overbite, but I know it's not for everyone.
My favorite girls right now are my cocos and they have a cute little overbite too.

    8. They will be, I think.

I'm one of those people who was just left (no pun intended-) very cold by the whole Frozen "thing". I didn't care for the characters, the music or the story and honestly I find the hype surrounding it all baffling. I couldn't care less about the dolls from a Disney fandom perspective.

That said, just as a doll sculpt on her own? I like Elsa. I can see all kinds of possibilities for her that have nothing to do with questionable adaptations of the Snow Queen.

      • x 8
    9. Snow Queen is such a good idea! I have to admit I didn't like Elsa's dress materials or her hair...they seem odd to me. And Anna surprisingly looks really cute with the actual doll photo and seeing from the front. Her dress set also just looks like coming out from the movie that I'm happy about.

      • x 1
    10. Yeah that's how I feel. Hair is too poofy, not crazy about the materials for the dress...but Anna is spot on...and I'm probably getting anyway.

      • x 1
    11. I just realized that the DSD girls are Japan, USA and Mexico only!? Like, whyyyy Volks....and why you exclude Canada but still include Mexico!? Volks USA is always able to ship to both countries! Very disappointed and I really hope they don't do the same for the Gr and SD13 version like this

      • x 1
    12. …is it just me or do the proportions of Elsa’s head look really strange? The head looks almost as though it’s supposed to go on a different body, which is such a shame because her face is lovely and I was really looking forward to this release! After all this time, I suppose I might end up passing. In any case, I hope we get the official pictures soon. Thanks for posting these!

      • x 4
    13. I wonder if it's a licensing issue? They may not have the rights to sell/ship the Disney Frozen collab dolls to Canada and other locations.

      • x 1
    14. It's not just you! I think her head looks a little too small for the GR neck width-wise, and the neck too long for the head. She looks fine when viewed head on, but it seems really long in 3/4 views. I was a little surprised since Volks heads are usually pretty large.

      • x 4
    15. I feel the same too! Elsa's neck looks really long on this body.

so true. Because eventually when we get the doll we will change her dress or make up. In my opinion, she will be boring if she stays being the Snow Queen all the time.

    16. Booooo I hadn't noticed that either!

    17. I emailed VolksUSA and if I get an answer, I'll post. I suspect a licensing issue too. Perhaps that's why there is no International (Japan only) of the DearSD on the Volks International page. Too many different licenses to deal with. If that's the case, it will likely be the same issue with SD13 Anna and SDGr Elsa when they release.|

      • x 1
    18. It's a licensing issue for sure. The same thing happens in Japanese lolita fashion too. When BTSSB had a collaboration dress with Disney, they had to post a notice that they were not allowed to sell to anywhere but within Japan.

      • x 1
    19. I heard back from VolksUSA:

Thank you very much for contacting VOLKS USA.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Frozen DearSD Anna and Elsa are not available for customers residing in Canada.

We apologize for the disappointing news and thank you for your understanding.

I guess the future releases of the SD13 and SDGr will be the same. But I’m wondering if we’ll have an LA Dolpa this year and maybe the SD13 and SDGr might show up there?

    20. The more I look at the Frozen girls, the more I love Anna and the more 'meh' I feel on Elsa, haha. Anna's costume is stunning and she's so stinking cute.

I love Elsa's face-up and her shoes but that's about it. Her sculpt feels a bit too young to me, and her dress isn't quite the quality I'd expect from Volks (but that could be a Disney issue). Honestly they could've just tweaked Lady Oscar's sculpt and she would've been perfect. I still think SDGr and SD13 was a strange choice instead of SD16 & SDGr.

      • x 4
    21. Could you please ask Volks USA about the SD13 and SDGr too then? And thanks for sharing their reply although their "unforeseen circumstances" doesn't really say much :'(

    22. "Unforeseen circumstances" probably just means it's out of our hands because Disney. The licensor, in this case Disney, generally has final say in where their products can be bought and sold. It's also possible Disney has a preexisting contract with another company that limits them from allowing other companies to sell items from certain IP within a region. Example, there could be a company in Canada that has a licensing agreement with Disney that allows them exclusive rights to sell specialty goods and merchandise of the Frozen franchise.

      • x 6
    23. @yin801122 We don't have a release date yet for the SD13 and SDGr girls, so maybe this is something that will change in the future? Volks might not even know themselves. If I get anymore from VolksUSA, I'll be sure to post it here. :sweat

@Cloudedmind Yeah ... it's really hard to say. I'm chalking it up to something licence related and it was awesome that they wrote back so quickly! I was worried it might be the end of VolksUSA x Canada but it seems like it's just the Frozen girls.

Not sure if anyone else caught it but looks like 2022 is 50 years of Volks! :aeyepop: (Super Dollfie is 1999 .. er '98?) And I bet we'll see some awesome things this year with such a big anniversary! Looks like Shigi-chan has a new buddy, smaller and a female version of Shigi. I saw some photos over on Twitter and IG. Very cute! :love

    24. It's totally a licensing issue. Honestly I'm impressed that they're even allowed to sell them in the US and Mexico. Cinderella and Rapunzel were Japan only, and almost all Disney collaboration merchandise offered by Japanese companies that I've come across has been limited for sale in Japan only too. Using adjacent hobby related examples, Q-Pot can't sell their Disney jewelry outside of Japan, and as Insane-chan mentioned, BTSSB couldn't sell their Disney collaboration clothing outside of Japan either.
(And similarly, Q-pot can't sell their Tom and Jerry jewelry outside of the US >w<)

    25. @Astro The Japan only release for the first Cinderella and Belle is probably because that contract was through Disney Japan. The current contract is with daddy Disney. XP

      • x 3
    26. @Cloudedmind Yeah, I'm a little surprised they switched who they were working through? I think that would also explain some of why the Frozen dolls have had what seems like a much longer production period too, probably more back and forth *_* Shame about Canada tho.

      • x 1
    27. Same- movie is meh to me, but I love Elsa's sculpt. If there's a VolksUSA lottery I'll put in for her. I won't be utterly heartbroken if I don't win, but I'd definitely have regrets if I didn't try.

    28. ... Quite disappointed that I won't be able to get Elsa and Anna. Lotteries already made the chances slim, but I would've wanted a chance at least... :pout:

Ah well, guess my current dolls can look forward to more budget for me to spoil them in the coming year.

    29. Now I really want to know who will be the next Volks & Disney princess. LOL

      • x 1
    30. I vote Disney villain! Come on SD16 Evil Queen or Maleficent! (I know, it's not going to happen, but that is my wish)
Honestly, if it needs to be one of the Disney heroines, I hope for Jasmine or Belle.

I am also really liking Elsa's sculpt. It has shades of Liz in the features, but a little more mature. I love the new hands too.

      • x 7
    31. I would love to believe that they are reserving the SD16 Disney collabs for the villains. :mwahaha It's not like Disney doesn't know how much Maleficent merch they sell.

    32. Elsa reminds me of F72 and the Johanna mold. Looking forward to more photos of her.

Speaking of SD16 Evil Queens, Portia (SD16 Johanna by SDink). Don't let the soft pink fool you. :sweat

    33. Same, but I already own both of those faces so I can't really justify another one. Plus hybridization of the Disney resin is a PITA.

    34. If only Volks understood that if they made Aurora and managed to nail her killer eyebrows and pointy nose, I would absolutely spend like $300 to get the extra version of her dress in blue on top of the doll

Merryweather was right, blue IS better

    35. Jumping in the convo to say that a Johanna would make a perfect Aurora  She has that tall slender face!

    36. The frozen sisters look very similar to disney's
I love their sculpt except their philtrums are slightly short..

    37. I have mixed emotions about the Frozen girls. Frozen is very special to me, and I was secretly hoping the dolls were not going to be to my taste. They turned out way better than I expected, but I also can't picture them with my crew. So conflicted!

I know I am partial to regretting what I don't buy though  I ended up getting a Lieselotte after all! Switched out her eyes with some beautiful older GE-8(?) Zoukeimuras.

Faline is wishing you a Merry Christmas! :treecookie

    39. Does anyone happen to know the shipping schedule for the Galerie de l'esprit Lieselotte through Volks USA? It says "starting winter 2021" on the Volks USA site, but I feel like I saw more specific dates somewhere?

    40. @bronzephoenix starting in late January sequentially according to an email. We're almost there *_*

    41. Thank you so much, I'm getting antsy about it, too! :abambi:

    42. Last month I was lucky enough to find a Belle, one of my grails, on the marketplace here.
Sadly I ended up struggling with her a bit because my plans for her didn't work out. For one I feel like I can't really capture her full beauty on camera. The last time I took her out for pictures I ended up not liking any of them.
But I don't think it's only the pictures and also a case of me not knowing what look I want for her. For me she's one of the most beautiful sculpts Volks (or any other company) has ever released. So I want her to look great but I feel like I'm not doing her justice currently.

On Christmas I finally felt motivated to take some simple portraits to help me decide what direction I want to take with her. I've tried on a few wigs and also switched out her eyes for smaller resin ones from Ms. Stein.
Please excuse the crooked eye placement on the right. I didn't notice while taking this picture.

Somehow that eye change made a huge difference to me. She looks much colder compared to the warm gentle expression the larger brown eyes give her. Now I feel inspired to give her a much bolder look than expected. That will most likely also include a new faceup. But I first I need to figure out what exactly I want for her. Belle is a very versatile sculpt so I feel she could pull of a lot of different styles.

Have you ever struggled with styling a sculpt you really like or even a grail? I'd be interested to hear how you dealt with these situations.

    43. Congrats @laquaza ! I also have a Belle (who is my most beloved) but it took me several years to finally find her look. Faceups make a huge difference, but once I figured that out (after just messing around with shading and brow placements), she really came into her own. Belle is a gorgeous and versatile sculpt, I’m so happy you were able to bring one home! Good luck on your journey of discovery!

    44. Wow Miss Morgan looks absolutely amazing. I loooove the bold eye liner and brows :love. And that lip color fits perfectly.
Most Belle's I've seen look very sweet and soft but I had a feeling she wouldn't get overpowered by stronger makeup. So thanks for confirming. She looks so mature and glamorous.

And thank you so much for your kind words :abow:.

    46. I struggled with the same feeling with my Suigintou. She'd been my grail for years and years until I finally managed to get her secondhand (and the price tag was painful :eusa_sile). That's why I felt anxious and frustrated when I couldn't seem to capture the same beauty I can see in front of me, and I compared it with other Suigintou photos as well, it felt like my camera wasn't cooperating *_*

I think what helped is just giving myself time to enjoy her without feeling the need to take photos, however long that may take. Play with your Belle and change up her wig, eyes, style of dresses/clothes and don't give the photos part much thought. Once you find the style that you enjoy most, I think the photos will reflect her beauty perfectly then :) For me, I was also a little stubborn and refused to send my Suigintou for a faceup for the longest time. I insisted I wanted to give her one of my own faceups just like I did with all my other girls, but even though I was good at faceups, there were better artists that captured the look I wanted for her much better. I eventually swallowed my pride and sent her to R.Dean who did a tremendous job and I never looked back :D

      • x 4
    47. Thank you so much for this advice and also for sharing your story :3nodding:. I think that might be just what I needed to hear. Because it is definitely true that I focus a lot on photography and this situation is very frustrating for me.
Today I actually played around with her because I just received a new outfit. And I was having fun up until I took pictures *_*. So yes it might really be better to just not photograph her until I have found her style. Guess I am putting myself under more pressure than usual too because she is so special to me.

And I will definitely commission a faceup artist. I am currently learning to do faceups because I am sure it's something I will enjoy doing in a similar way to how I enjoy painting miniatures. But I am still a total beginner so I can't do justice to Belle currently. With my other dolls and my practice heads I don't mind but not for her.

I am glad to hear things worked out with your Suigintou in the end :love.

And here's some dolly tax so I'm not just filling this thread with long walls of texts. I still managed to take some nice shots today just none of Belle's face :sweat. So here's Lieselotte instead. I am so so happy I exchanged her eyes.

    48. My grail is fcs57 but I missed the pre order. I hope I could find him second hand one day.

    49. Hi everyone,

I'm sorry for this odd request but can you guys tell me if there are is any Volks doll which headplate shows a 06.11.?

I have one doll which numbers match with the day of my grandmothers death and I'd like to get the same for my mothers as well.

      • x 1
    50. If you can find an older FCS doll that was ordered in November 2006, the plate should have that on it. More info on FCS head plates can be found on the Creating Dreams website.

Good luck on your search - sounds like a lovely tribute.

      • x 1
    51. Ah, Thank you so much, that is of great help! ❤

Too bad there seems to be no Dolpa release in June 2006, that would have made my search a lot easier. But it's not impossible all thanks to FCS.

Here is a picture of my Victorique, btw. I also named her after her because of that as a kind of tribute.

I bought her with the money my grandmother gave me without paying attention to the plate in the first place. Goosebumps... o.o

    53. She should be pink fair I believe! :D

    55. Yes looks like she is pink fair, same color with Rapunzel :)

    56. I'm loving the Frozen girls and I can't wait to see more of Elsa (but my heart is still with Rapunzel, out of the Disney girls).

I've been looking at older Volks sculpts on Flickr and Mandarake and feeling so nostalgic for the old faces, too.

      • x 1
    57. I totally understand loving the classic sculpts! Some of my favorites are Liz, Jun Tachibana, Amelia . . . so lots of older faces for sure. :D I love seeing Volks' new renditions of older sculpts. Hikaru Genji one-offs are hot! :love

    58. Copying this over from the MSD thread because this one seems to get more traction. Hope that's okay!

I'm new to Volks (using the VolksUSA website for orders btw). When an item goes out of stock (say a wig in a certain color or white socks), will it ever be restocked? I figured that some outfits and items are limited and some aren't but wasn't sure which ones those are. (I'm looking at a a pair of 18mm eyes, socks, and shoes for MSD. Hopefully I can afford them around July of this year.)

Also, does the wish list do anything? I put a few items there as reminders for myself but I wasn't sure if Volks sent out reminder emails if said items become available.

One last thing I promise, but does Volks announce their sales or newly stocked items outside of their website? I've tried following their Instagram page but it's mostly pictures of Japan exclusive Dolpla SDs...

    59. Oooh, I'll have to look up the one-off models! Maybe Volks will re-release or update more of their old sculpts someday. I'm still hoping they create a SDC Tae/Anais/F06 in the future. :)
