The Dolpa 45 news has me so dang excited. After 6 years of waiting, I'll finally be able to get my grail doll - a VOLKS Charlotte! Her faceup looks incredible, too.

Money is definitely tight right now, but I think I'll have to make it work. Or else I'm going to regret it for another 6 years...

@01KE Have you tried searching for it on Mandarake? If you can find a sold out listing for it you can set an alert to be notified if one ever comes back in stock.

That is so exciting that Volks is accepting pre-orders for their dolls! I'm pleasantly surprised by the news ~ and it gives me hope that maybe someday they'll do the same for their pirate boys (as unlikely as it still seems)

 

Which pirate boys? Since they just had one for SD17 and SD10 Williams and Cecil last year.

 

Technically it was just the SD17 ones that were a preorder. The SD10 ones were a really weird system that was ‘preorder, but if we get too many orders it will switch to lottery’ - I have no idea what it wasn’t lottery to begin with because obviously they were extremely popular. (Basically everyone who ‘ordered’ received an email notifying of the change and whether they won or lost) I was lucky, but a lot of people missed out.

...I’m still a little sad I didn’t get a guaranteed sd17 Cecile from the earlier preorder though, but I just wouldn’t have been able to afford him (and if I did, I wouldn’t have been able to get the SD10 version who went on to become one of my favourite dolls I own). I had hoped that a preorder would mean there would be way more of him in the wild, but... there really isn’t. Every now and then I search for one out of curiosity what his price is and I can never find anything other than his hat. I think I saw the Will on Manda or Dollyterria for like 300000 or something, which really surprised me.

Sooo basically, my advice would be that if anyone is hoping that even if they don’t preorder one of these three girls they’ll at least be easier to get later due to more being made than usual, don’t be too sure

And doll tax, cos I haven’t for a while, and I love how devious my Cygnus always looks for some reason.

 

@Cloudedmind Ah yes, I wasn't clear. Really I meant the SD10 versions and/or a Cecile Scarface option. It was tempting for an SD17, but I really wanted a regular scarface boy, and keep missing out on the ones who end up on auction OTL

@Insane-Chan Maybe Volks will do a scarface version in the future now.

All I want in my life is a scarface ver. of Reisner to release again in a way I can actually get access to him. Volks you'd make me so happy if you did that.

@Cloudedmind Though lets be real if they did that I'd hop on that Williams so fast. Especially a tan RG? My heart could not handle it.

@petiteballerine Lucia is very sweet. This was the first time I finally figured out how to add a photo to a discussion thread. I have Mia also, she is also a sweetie. If I didn't already have Lucia, I would want to get her though the pre-order. Maybe she will have a different face-up?

Quick question folks! Based on the price that Volks International has up, how much do y'all think Lieselotte will cost at VolksUSA?

I am trying to figure out if I can swing two (I've always wanted a boy and girl twin set of them), but know that it'd probably be better to plan to go through VolksUSA. My only issue is that the only other person who could maybe help me get my twin is in CA so taxes. So just trying to look at the numbers and figure it out. Actually, if someone in CA can give me an idea of how much tax on a $1000 + doll has been I'd appreciate that too! Thanks for the help.

 

@Gunter von Christ I believe the tax rate is 9.5%.
VolksUSA was tending to tack a little on over the JPY to USD conversion rate to allow for fluctuations and for a while it was cheaper for me to buy from the international store than ship within CA but I’ve noticed on more recent clothing releases at least it seems to even out a bit better.

 

It's 10.25%, sadly. It's actually a little cheaper for me to order from Volks International anymore due to LA having a super high tax rate even for CA + the JPY:USD exchange currently rate being in our favor. Shipping a full doll internationally might get pretty expensive though, so the price difference is probably fairly negligible.

About 1400-1600 each, there might be a little overhead due to the collaboration, I think the lowest will be 1450 USD

 

I'd say around $1045 plus tax for Lieselotte. Usually their exchange rate is 100:1.
Definitely order from VolksUSA if you located in North America. It will save you from the custom duty. Lol.

 

Even if you order from the international site, we don't play customs fees on dolls here in the US.

 

Canada and Mexico can also order from Volks USA and I believe they do pay customs fees.

 

It's been a long time since I've paid attention to Dollfie news. I've just been busy with school so I've only been checking what sdgr girls they have for the monthly oneoffs. Unfortunately there haven't been any sculpts that I'm in love with yet. I was hoping that Mytyl would be rereleased, because oneoffs are such a long shot, so I'm surprised they are doing Lucia since I had the impression that she's not nearly as popular.

I'm excited about the new head. I agree that there's so many cutie heads and not enough mature heads. Although maybe that's because they don't offer the sdgr girl body in fcs. But I'd love more like Sophie and Angela. Or Cinderella's headsculpt! I really like her and Rapunzel, but I don't like how hard it is to get matching option parts for special skintones. That was the main reason I decided against Cinderella. I really want both leg options!

And if they're releasing Lucia this time, does that mean they won't be releasing another sdgr girl until next year?

Just got an email from VolksUSA, looks like online FCS for April (1-10)! Maybe bad timing for some with the release of Charolette, Lieselotte and Lucia coming up. I'd really love to see that new F-97 come up but Sato exclusive for now.

 

Probably it has nothing to do with SD16 Full-choice.. is it? I'm wondering when is SD16 FCS happening

 

I'm excited for the USA online FCS! I'm guessing SDM and SD/SD13, but we shall see. That new F97 is SO precious, but USA FCS doesn't seem to get the newest sculpts, so maybe later. ^^

@01KE ~ I don't know about Japan's FCS, but if you are wondering about USA's online FCS, the SD16's seem to be available only once a year, around October. Of course, nothing is set in stone, since there is no official schedule. But based on past releases, I would be very surprised to see SD16 girls again before fall.

Bit of a long shot here, but does anyone have the "Another Yourself" SD photobook? If you do, could you take a look in it for me? Supposedly photos of the SD prototype, the one-off doll that Enku sculpted for his wife, are in it. I'd love to have confirmation if this is actually a photo of it.

I'm a little suspicious since his name is misspelled and IMO that doll doesn't bear much a resemblance to his style, even to how Enku did faces in his garage kits from the 1980-90s. I think he has a really strong and easy to identify sculpting style so I'm super curious if that's actually her or not.

 

Hi, @Astro! The photos of Enku and the prototype are legit -- they've both been cropped. The prototype is referred to as "Mr. Enku's original ball jointed doll" in Super Dollfie Encyclopedia 2006, which was included in the Another Yourself 2006 book set.

Thanks for the excuse to dust this puppy off. Time to sit down and get nostalgic!

And also excited about another crop of online FCS temptations. Once upon a time online FCS was a "probably never" dream; I'm happy Volks continues to offer it to North American fans. Let's hope someday they'll offer it to their global members as well.

 

Woohoo, thank you so much! I knew that was definitely a photo of Enku but since they both looked like they were removed from their context I wasn't sure if that photo of him went with the photo of the OG SD, and if that was actually her. What an exciting thing to see, I didn't realize there were actually extant photos!

 

I'm currently debating if I really want to spend so much money on pre-ordering Lucia... her head sculpt is gorgeous but I'm not 100% sure if the SDgr girl body will fit into my collection. I've owned an SD16 girl before and ultimately sold her since I got overwhelmed by her size xD
The good thing is that there are still a few weeks left before I have to make my choice!

 

@Ayanami - haha, I am the opposite. I really want the sdgr girl body to go with my sdgr guy I love to bits, but not sure about the head. it's very young-looking for her character.
Sometimes, you just don't know until you have the doll in your hands. Nyle wants his Brina, but will he love her when he sees her?

 

@petiteballerine I also own an SDgr boy - he's a Date Masamune 2nd Version and was actually my grail doll since I've joined the hobby! But he's a loner and doesn't accompany my other dolls so his size doesn't matter that much.
Lucia on the other hand is supposed to be a character from the storyline of my DearSD Coco... so the question is whether the SDgr girl will look fine next to my chunky DearSD I've seen some comparison photos on Instagram and the scale seems to be a little bit off?

I haven't paid doll tax in a while so I figured I'd share my F38, Arcus! I finally sat down and took a couple of pictures of him and my MSD F21 (who you can see peaking into the shot). Gosh I love his face and wish I could do him some more justice but I fear my photography skills are very limited.

Forgive this definitely/probably dumb question. I've been out of the hobby for quite a few years.... is there a current guide out there with what sculpts will be available for fcs in the us or is it something they announce closer to date? Back when I first got into the hobby my favorite volks sculpt was sato only. I'm assuming that applies to the online fcs? Also, what's the price range in usd on average for the sd16/sdgr girls? Thanks so much!!

I have a new doll coming home to me!! Have not wanted a doll until I saw this one, and he is on the older side for age, but I always wanted a F16 and this one grabbed my attention I even discussed it with my hubby. I always get his opinion before I buy a doll that is over $150+ and is not a IT doll ( have too many of them ). Can't wait to have him home, I know exactly what wig and clothes to put him in once he arrives.

 

Hi all! I just got my sd17 body yesterday and the hands stump me. How do you string the wrist balls/hands onto the arms? The s hook doesn't seem to want to fit like normal!

I have a Yu Morisawa body (same body as Lucia) on the way, I actually wanted the body because I thought it would be different but still go fairly well with my DearSD Megu.

It states that only one item per person, that mean I can not get both Lucia and Charlotte. If that is the case I can only get Lucia

 

@Saintstar I think it's one of each item per person. At least that's what I remember reading on VolksUSA. I don't know if the international site is different.

 

Cygnus is SD10 Cecile Propaganda apparently! He has a really expressive face that can look so different from photo to photo; out of all my dolls he feels the most alive.
I’m glad you like the pics because I’ve been worried my pics of him are very samey lol so I need to try to take some more varied ones.
His wig is a silver one from msire on Taobao. It’s extremely soft, so I end up patting his head a lot. I like it so much that I have two more in alternate colours (dusty pink brown and black) on order right now.

For doll tax I’ve been discovering new and exciting uses of the clasping hands, like the fact that they can perfectly cup this pokeball keychain (I forget where it came from, though...)

Does anyone know if f-16 (or other sd13/gr) takes high or low dome eyes? Is there much difference? Is there a chance high domes will not fit?

 

Low dome eyes have fit the best in my f-16. I would say high domes might fit but the eyes would have to be on the smaller side (18mm didn’t fit well, for example). Zouks have fit the best. For most of my other Volks heads, it hasn’t mattered whether the eyes are low or high, Hope that helps!
