@Nell : haha! Today when I catalogued I found two sets of almost identical looking wigs, so I know the plight all too well. Definitely was tough to motivate myself, but after cataloging and posting it...I've already sold 7 wigs. I feel this wig weight lifting from my shoulders

I wanted to do a valentine's doll tax too, even though it's technically no longer Valentines day ~ This is an older photo but recently I set up Josephine (my Volks Pearl) between my two hunky resident SD17's Alest (F-38) and Ricky (Shiro). She is the only SD16 mature girl in the house, so I guess she gets to be more choosy about her Valentine.

Having had dolls in a country with about 70% humidity constantly, I think dolls do yellow a wee bit faster but as long as you keep them away from the sun and in a room that is as dry as possible (thank god for dehumidifiers), the only downside would be the yellowing/spotting of doll clothes or the peeling of faux leather. Gotta remember to air out the clothes once in awhile to prevent mildew or a musty smell from developing!

 

I’m a day late, too! Happy Valentines Day from my girls (and newly refreshed f-19)! Everyone’s dolls look so beautiful! I’m always amazed at how expressive Volks molds are, with just a tilt of the head or a slightly different angle. Love it!

 

Just to follow up with this - I've given @ekala the archive of the old VolksUSA site this evening after taking some time to clean the directories up. Included was the webstore with its historical record of releases, the Store Blog, the Sumika Times Blog, the Dreamy DD Blog, and part of the tea-nifty Super Dollfie Blog. Includes more than 14,500 official pictures of (most?) things VolksUSA offered from opening in 2006 through closing / management changeover shortly after March 2014.

It will take a long time to go through it all I'm sure, but hopefully TnK can house the historical record for us.

 

Hi everyone,
I received the Petale de Rose loot I ordered back in January today! Came super early, but I live in Cincinnati. Which is DHL hub. Got the Sd16 gown/shoes and the Sdgr/Sd17 uniform with
/cape/boots. On first glance the outfits are very well made. The burgundy fabric is actually a brocade, which I didn't know, couldn't tell from the pictures. The cape is also very nice and heavy. Nice decorative clasps. The lace on the sleeves are very nice.
Not ready to redress any of my SD16 girls or SD17 boys yet. So no pics..
But hoping that the rumors are true about an SD16girl and Sd17 boy FCS in March. Will buy dolls for the outfits.
Can't wait to see other peeps pics of these incredible outfits. Hope the uniform fit is nice.

This is a long shot, but does anyone know if a SDGr female head would fit on an Iplehouse SID female body?

 

@Akutenshi7 I suspect it might be too big as the IH head sculpts tend to be small compared to Volks...not to mention the resin match would be off, wouldn't it?

In other news, I've just received an old F-08 head from a friend as a gift. I was wondering, when she said she had the head, whether it would be oldskin and definitely an 08 - and it is! I'd remembered the wide, broad forehead when my friend used to have the head on a body, but now it's here, it's so old there is no headplate and there is no writing inside except a couple of tiny japanese letters. The headcap is much smaller and just cuts the top off of the head...

Once again, today's clickwar was a breeze! I forgot about it, showed up 15ish minutes late, and everything my friend and I wanted was still in stock. I'm glad that they've become so much less stressful!

 

Same! I was able to pick up the items I had wanted without any problems. A nice surprise ^ ^

 

I’m also excitedly waiting for the news on the full choice 20th anniversary but also trying not to expect particular things so I don’t set myself up for disappointment.I would love to see SD17/16 join the lineup, even if it’s only a limited time thing, because I want a sunlight/tan sd17 very badly. But I would also like to see SDCutes getting...any love at all, because they’re such a neglected line... (I’m not expecting SDCute at all though )

Anyway, my hand parts did finally ship and I just got them yesterday. I ordered them along with the Oath of Silver Coin visual history books which are just kinda nice to have, although it’s a shame the second one came out before the sd10 Cecile and Williams did. (Unless a third book is planned, along with even more dolls..) As for the hands, the only ones I have tried on Cygnus (Cecile) so far are the clasping (aka ‘gendou ikari’) ones, and I already know they’re the best ones.

I finally won a Tsunenaga Hasekura II yesterday (Tsunenaga girl here I come!) and I am layawaying off a Souseiseki right now and that means I actually now have all Volks molds I wanted! Gasp, this might mean I can have money for me again... Or more doll clothes

@Dybbuk Thanks! I must admit that he's the one my eye keeps wandering to in all the photos I took of them as well. :P I like how Volks positioned the eyes to side in this latest release of Williams. And I really love his face up, but I'm probably going to have to get it redone eventually since I want it to be a bit darker to match his wig.

@Roterwolkenvogel I just have this thing for black and white coordinates. And black and white doll clothing in general is just so much easier to come by and know the various piece will work together. Also, I'm looking forward to seeing how your Tsunenaga turns out.

This reminded me that this is the first time in years that I've taken a proper picture of my Date. He really needs his own shoot.

My incoming Date Masamune head I traded on IG was mailed to me on the 12th and it hadn't updated the tracking at all until this morning and for some goofy reason It went to Tennessee, which is funny considering it was going from Illinois to me in Indiana. I'm assuming it's probably due to the weather delays/etc but like post service let me have my booooy

I'd been meaning to purchase something new for my F-31 for quite some time and nothing really suited him until I saw this one and it was well worth the wait

Someone pages back brought up LA Dolpa and for a while now, I have been wondering if these Frozen ladies aren't going to be the exclusive for an LA Dolpa? Since 2015, we have had a Dolpa every 2 years and this year is the year (2019 was the last one) ... So I guess the question is, if it does happen, will it be in person or online? I'd love to be able to go to a Dolpa this year but of course, safety for everyone is the priority. I guess more waiting ....

Out of curiosity, now my fave f16 is sadly discontinued I was wondering what the reasons are.
Are heads made in the same master mold and the master molds just break after many years? Or are there several master molds? Just marketing wise if heads lose popularity?

 

@keii_chan I don't know for sure, but I think it's just business. They can make new molds if the mold breaks, as long as they have the master sculpt. But the Volks company is a lot larger than I think most of us realize; they also have an anime figure business and a model plane business. They are large enough to have branded branch stores. They run their business like a large business, and most large businesses will discontinue products that don't sell well.

 

It’s actually the opposite ^^; it’s a bit of a bugbear of mine that many people have the misconception that Volks is a huge company. The thing is they’re really not, they’re a family business. The vast majority of their staff are shop staff, and internal staff numbers are much smaller than people seem to expect (hence them being massively snowed under with orders and shipping taking up to a month). I only really know about this because I looked into the recruitment back when I was living in Japan because I had considered applying there for a hot minute but I ultimately decided to move back home. (Kyoto rent was a bit spicy compared to where I was before and I missed my cat)

So therefore they can’t really afford to keep everything in circulation at once, especially the more heads they add to FCS. It’s only natural that some would get retired - it makes more sense to me that a larger company would be able to keep less popular sculpts around than the opposite.

 

It is true, they aren't huge as far as number of employees go, and they are a family-owned business. They're miniscule compared to a company like Toshiba. But they are also a corporation that owns its own plastic manufacturing plant (it seems like they mostly manufacture plastic hobby kit parts). According to their website, they made 7 billion yen last year. Really, all I meant was they are larger than most BJD companies tend to be.

 

20th anniversary FCS details will be released Monday, March 8th! Other than maybe SD16/SD17 body options, what would you want to see added or changed?

 

Is this only Japan?

 

I'd love to see Yos available in FCS, but I don't think we'll even be getting SD17s lol. They'd have to release a bunch of new heads for that.

 

I'd love to see SDGr girl bodies become available! Especially the small bust/single piece torso bodies! Might be too much to hope for, though, haha...

 

Shadow skin and/or make any limited mold available please! Haha, I can dream...

 

International FCS even just this once...

 

Newbie question but is there any way to participate in a FCS event from outside Japan or the US? It seems I can't even access the FCS sites from Europe . So I won't even be able to tell a shopping service what I would like to buy.

Is the second hand market the only chance to get our hands on a FCS doll?

@laquaza nope, it's US, Japan or proxy for us! You can access the US FCS site using a proxy to pretend you're American because they do block IPs from everywhere else. However the US FCS choices are severely limited so not the best option to trawl through!
For looking up options, there are sites out there who compile the FCS sculpts and options and coincidentally someone I follow just posted her guide on IG which seems to include a write up of what's available (Iam not affiliated, it's just nice timing)


And honestly I am just over here excited to hear whatever is new XD a new FCS doll is the only one I'd consider adding to my crew... After my bank account survived me just paying the ransom for my Tsunenaga and paying off my Souseiseki, that is

(and okay one special international online FCS order option would also be dope but yeah)

I redid my f-19 Miko’s faceup this morning, anticipating whenever her wig will finally arrive. She looks a bit worried that maybe the post won’t deliver, lol.

 

I always feel like Volks does my girl Charlotte dirty ... like she's not ugly but so plain in comparison! Out of the 3 she catches my eye least, but i love her sculpt a lot. If I didn't already find one dirt cheap 2nd hand I'd be tempted... I wonder how well they will sell out being a 4th release. Probably well enough if they're getting a 4th release.

 

If I am interpreting Volks' tweets correctly, Charlotte and Lieselotte are going to be preorders. Which is wow.

I actually think Charlotte is the most intriguing one in this release? She's super cute. I may actually get her if she's a preoder

 

Really happy that everyone who wants Lieselotte or Charlotte will be able to get one for retail now!

 

It's a bit boring another edition of Charlotte/Lieselotte... They could have done a Charlotte in White Skin and a Lieselotte in Normal Skin or something like that!

I really wasn’t planning to buy any dolls this year but how to say no to this version of Lucia and Lieselotte when they are available as pre-orders? This is my favourite release of Lieselotte, and Lucia appeals to me more than her first version too

FCS news are up!

Sounds like there's a change that a head you design will become FCS No 100, one of models picked from the best choices (?) and an owner campaign to order parts (?)

The last two are where I am not sure on specifics, I am working with Google translate

 

For me who has never been able to acquire Lieselotte, I wouldn’t want her in any other skin tone. I knew waiting would pay off one day.

 

Even if these three dolls aren't for me, it makes me so, so happy to see so many people having the chance to get a guaranteed shot at their grail. I think it's fantastic news. I hope its a good time finance-wise for everyone who was after those three.

I tried not to get my hopes up too much about the full choice thing, I'm a little bummed it wasnt sd17 but I'm also secretly glad because it means I dont suddenly have to shell out sd17 money. I have no talent in sculpting or designing heads so it will be really interesting to see what kind of things get entered in that head no.100 contest. Looks like there will be a user vote on the 10 finalists.
Looking at the rules, it says its open to Global members too - and that one of the runner-up prizes is 10,000 yen off a full choice order. So if a GL person wins, do they get to do an online order at a discount...? Or do they just win that in points for the online store?

I was surprised that next Dolpa will have a one-off lineup of every sculpt...! I'm excited to see how they all turn out. I hope there comes a time when GL members get the chance to enter for one-offs again... I dont want to complain too much, especially with GL being so new, but after living in Japan it's really hard to not continually compare GL to VS, and VS gets so much more for only 500 yen more. I know this is obviously because there's more access to Volks stuff in Japan, but in some ways GL feels the same as the free membership tier they have that I was on before getting VS. I'd like them to implement more online GL perks in future - especially cos so many of the perks they wanted to implement require you to go to Japan which clearly no one can do at the moment lol. But they do seem to be heading in that direction of adding new perks though which is good.

 

Is there a time when the preorders open up? I’ve never done this process before but I adore Lieselotte and have to try. I also just ordered the GL membership so I hope it goes through in time or else I’ll need to find someone to help me....
