I think Tsukasa might be the winner for oversized default items. His pants are enormous to an absolutely comical degree.

Speaking of dolls in need of re-release... Come on, Volks, it's been seventeen years. :<

 

Does anyone have comparison photos of any of the newer SDGr boy hands (H-07 to H-12) with any of the H-01 to H-06 boy hands? Or with the SD17 default hands? Asking as I am thinking of ordering a few of the H-07 to H-12 hands from the owners' limited parts order from the DP43 SD17 boys, and haven't been able to find comparison photos. I can tell they are a bit more muscular and mature than the older SD13B/SDGrB hands, but would be interested to see if they might be slightly larger as well, and if they might look odd on an SD17 body.

Somehow I don't think I've ever shared this guy here on DoA! One of my grail Volks sculpts, F-57 on an SDGr body! I've loved F-57 ever since i saw all the blank heads at Mado, I traded a couple Minifee fullset outfits and a body for this guy! I just love him to bits, I think he's going to be the one to wear all the more tradtional style clothing!

I own a couple of hands from H01to H06, H07 to H12, and also SD17 default hands. Unfortunately, I can't take a photo of them now. But I do notice that H-07 to H-12 are not only slightly bigger than H01 to H06, but also slightly smaller than SD17 default hands. So the size of H-07 to H-12 is basically in between H01 to H06 and SD17 default hand. To me, they look a bit smaller for the SD17 body but I guess Volks is too lazy to make a separate set of hands for the SD17 body. And you also need the special joint ball if you want to apply H07-H12 onto the SD17 body.

 

Thanks so much, this really helps! Slightly bigger than H-01 to H-06 is perfect as my aim is for him to get slightly more grownup looking hands. It would be nice if they could also work for SD17 but from your description I think it might not be a look I like so I decided not to shell out for the additional wrist balls. Thanks for your help!

Ernest showed up yesterday too, though I couldn't unbox him right away haha. He's so gorgeous! I'm amazed at how subtle the colors in his face up are, I remember thinking he looked really pink in the promo pics. I did a mini shoot with him and Vincent because they are too dang fancy, so that'll be my doll tax for today.

 

Late response but I haven't gotten anything either about mine, though they did say February and so I just kept forgetting about them until now. I'm surprised someone got them early but I was expecting late February. I may wish I had gotten more sets of hands but i just had to get the peace hands.

I feel like I'm itching to buy a new doll lately and I still search for an RG Williams but I really should just wait until we see what the next dolpa brings. Back when things were normal I had big plans to finally go to the US Dolpa which would be this year but I'm guessing they probably won't do it with the current state of things, what do you guys think?

 

I just realised I completely forgot to specify in my post that I was talking about the International store re: Cecile/Williams hands and not VolksUSA - in case that’s what you were talking about because there was no estimate given for Int... (unless it’s very fine print on the order form that I missed, but I can’t remember where I put it now.) My friend’s hands were from Williams, also from International, and I actually double checked with them yesterday to be certain it was those hands that shipped in late December and not something else, and they were.

I...am starting to think I should maybe contact Volks? I don’t really want to, because if I have to wait then there’s nothing that can really be done anyway. But if is very odd to me that I would have to wait an additional month (and counting) for the same thing as I would have expected hand orders with a deadline to get shipped out together or at least very close to eachother. There is a message on the site from early January about orders being currently backed up and taking longer than normal so I’m willing to give it a little longer, but it’s still strange to me.

The only other thing I can think is that certain hand parts have backed up production and are taking longer than expected - since some of the hands we ordered are different.

I can’t help getting impatient though cos I want to do more photo comics with Cygnus but he needs more hands for that.

 

Oh yeah, I ended up winning from Volks USA so yours was a lot earlier then. I would definitely contact them in that case in a little while, just to ask. Yeah ours had an estimate right on the form of February so it seems like yours likely should have come by now.

Yeah, that's fair since they're so fun and expressive for pictures. I wish I did photo comics but photos in general are enough work for me.

 

Got a loser mail for Rigel. At first I was like "whoooooooooah, an email" and then I was even more sad. xD This was my first lottery with their new system.

Didn't expect that. Next time I'm warned, haha. It's really nice that this stortens the waiting time, tho.

 

I live here and, no, irregular fitting shoes are not normal. Mostly, when I see this occur it is on elderly lady with swollen feet due to health conditions or they are worn by people who need to shop the S/M/L section for economic reasons. In other cases, women's shoes here tend to go only up to size 25 which does not always fit those with larger feet. In that case, the Japanese women with larger feet need to look at men's shoes or opt for a size that is too small.

It is actually quite common for those with the means to have custom-made shoes made specifically for any health condition and size at specialty shops. And, that option exists here for dolls as well, but those handmade shoes are in the mid-hundreds of dollars.

This. Volks tends to gravitate towards fashion norms in Japan. I do not know what the fashion norms are nor do I particularly care, but I suspect sizing of shoes reflects the perceived fashion based on the particular designer's personal experiences. Age, gender and economic level will influence those experiences.

I understand and completely appreciate those with concerns about the sizing of Volks shoes as it is not always consistent, but the sizes of dolls the shoes will fit are in the description. If the description says that it fits SD10 and SD17 boys, they will run large. And, if a pair of shoes says it fits DD as well as MSD, well, those will be large as well. Unfortunately, one cannot always know the size when it comes to limited dolls, but in that situation it would be a stylistic choice based on the designer of the doll.

I’m glad Volks is sending out winning and losing lottery emails now, so at least there’s a definitive answer and no worries about your email being delayed or sent to a spam folder.

Are there any other winners here? I think they only had 44 of Rigel and Michele at Dolpa 44. I’m wondering if it’s the same for the online lottery.

Volks will have an announcement in March (next Volks News) about the 20th anniversary of the Full Choice System. There's some whispers on Twitter that maybe they will introduce SD16 girl and SD17 boy bodies as options. These are just rumors, but it would definitely be a popular option!

SD17 would be fun, but SDGr girls are much more appealing to me, personally, than SD16! I hope the SDGr gals make it as well, and that this isn't a one-time event with a geographical order limit!

Oh these speculations are killing me... Please oh lord, I can't afford a sunlight (or god help me) ebony SD17 right now. In hopes of my own self preservation I'm going to hope/pray real hard it's an SDGr female option for you fine folks, so I can continue living my financially stable life.

Oh wow, I really wish I could go to Japan for the Hinamatsuri. The event seems so interesting. I wanna see the Hinamatsuri-themed one-off dolls, and that photo shoot booth...! Unnngh...!! Someday... For now I'll just have to be satisfied with the social media pics I suppose.

Hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday today. It's freezing here in Texas and we're getting sheets of ice on the road. My Valentine and I had to spend an early holiday together instead. So bunkering down today itching to play with some dolls... my other Valentines haha

I just moved to San Antonio and as not expecting this cold! I'm glad I got out earlier today because it's snowing now and a lot of roads are closed, but I spent some of the afternoon inside with my dolls too.
Do you find the humidity here affects your dolls at all? I've never lived anyhere with such high humidity and am worried about it

 

@Nell : Welcome to SATX Nell! hehe sorry you are now experiencing the crazy unexplainable phenomenon known as "Wacky Texas Weather". I can't believe it's as bad as it is! But luckily I did the same and hit up the grocery on Friday so I could double quarantine this weekend. Hiding from the pandemic AND the ice storm.

When we are our normal blistering hot self, I haven't had too much problem with painting/maintaining faceups her in SA. I'm a native, so I feel like we are way more of a dry heat vs. a muggy humid heat like Houston or College Station (where I used to previously live for college) and I would have bad faceup/sealant issues consistently. I can honestly say I haven't had any major issues with my dolls in SA. I think your resins will be just fine. Just keep them away from sunny windows and use sun block during the summer time hehe.

Your Bianka is so cute! I should have done a cute Valentine's photo~ haha I just cataloged a bunch of excess doll stuff for sale instead. Definitely not "as fun" but needed.

I just made a pretty big Volks international store order since my moving costs ended up a little less than planned for and I finally get to get my boys some clothes I've been holding off on for months. The collection is growing and I don't want to start losing track. I almost re-bought a pair of eyes a while back so it is time.
