Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XVII

Nov 12, 2015

    1. Pardon me if this is the wrong thread to ask this question, but can anyone with the original four sisters comment on their wig size?
I'm trying to purchase a wig for my SD Nana, and I'm reading mix things about her wig size. Some are saying 8-9 inches, others say 9-10 inches.

Please let me know I should be posting this on a different thread -Thank you!

    2. I would say 9-10 from my experience? I also feel compelled to add depending on the wig maker these variables can change. I would look into who you would like to buy the wig from and then see if you can find info on the general fit of their wigs.

Heck, I've even bought wigs directly from Volks that were too big/too small for the doll size they were indicated as fitting. In the case of a wig being slightly too big you can always add a cap or padding to help whereas too small and you're just out of luck (or in for a lot of stretching).

      Good luck! :3nodding:

    3. Michele is one of the last Volks Grails that I have... Oh my gosh, I really really hope I can get one. I need one! TnT My collection would be near complete! (last one Grail is Souseiseki but that one's a bit difficult.. =_= )

*keeps rolling over* So many dolly stuff going on!! It's like I can't decide which way to turn!

Aaaaand on a side note, I got my F-35 and he's pretty! He had a faceup but I cleaned it since he will be needing a more boyish one. I can't embarrass him by placing him on a girl body since I don't have any boy dolls... haha. He's gotta wait until he's all done.

    4. @hanaful they use 9-10, but I squeeze stretchy 8-9 wigs on my girl at times.

Kino got a new boyfriend. XD

    5. Arg. I want a Michele. They did such a great job on his faceup and he would make an adorable little cross dresser or girl.... >.<

      • x 1
    6. Ugh, the Michele. I'm crying. T__T

    7. Thank you! I'll stick with 9-10. I'm looking at Leeke's wig specifically, so I'll look into their thread!

Thank you, this is super helpful! And your dolls are lovely :)

    8. @hanaful when I had a 4 sisters I nearly always used a 9-10 (a really stretch 8-9 would work but I wouldn't count on one being that way)

      Yay I'm safe this round!

Unless they release some decent rock star appropriate clothing

    9. Thank you! So the consensus is that I should generally stick with 9-10 inches, it seems. I'm so glad I asked first before putting in an order for the 8-9 wigs.

    10. I'm liking Rigel. Is his sculpt the same as Chris/Lucas? Looks pretty close.

    11. I finally can contribute to this conversation! Look at this cute face. And...very bald head. I have no idea where to find a wig I like for this guy. 9-10 heads seem to be strangely elusive in mid-length styles. Or maybe he's not a 9-10 at all...that *is* what School A heads are, right? Anyway meet Cyan! And a foot that belongs to my Impldoll that I couldn't crop out.

    12. @persimmon_27 Aww he's really cute! Yes School A is a 9-10 but can usually handle an 8-9 as well. Have you checked Luts? I got a lot of wigs there in the past that fit that size range.

    13. Volks has plenty of 9-10 wigs, because they still make plenty of other melonheads. ^^ Iplehouse & Soom & other companies that make plus-sized dolls also carry big sizes. And Dollmore has like every size of everything.

@persimmon_27 he's adorable! Congratulations. School A has those big beautiful features that are fun to dress up and accessorize, but he sure has maximum eyesockets and maximum cranium.

    14. Hmm... My School A is wearing a fairly stretchy Monique 8-9. A plain 9 would probably work on him, but a larger 9.5-10 would fall right off. Their heads are big by "modern" doll standards, but they're not quite Syo-sized.

ETA: The only decent picture I have of said-School A in his 8-9 wig.

    15. Monique Gold wigs are super stretchy, so Mr Melonhead is also in luck there. Mine can also wear Jpopdolls wigs with the stretchy caps too.

      *coo* So pretty!

    16. They seriously are... I wouldn't have even tried an 8-9 on him if it hadn't been as stretchy as it is. But it really does have enough give to be a good fit.

The wig he had prior to this one was a much less stretchy 9 from... Soul Doll, I want to say? It was one I'd originally gotten for Jen back-in-the-day, so the memories are fuzzy. That one worked pretty well, too. Both it and the Monique fit well enough not to need a cap or wig-stop.

The 9-10s I tried on him were a longer style from Luts (Even with a cap that one wouldn't stay on his head. It was loose and heavy. A deadly combination for keeping wigs on heads.) and a medium-length style from Leeke. That one wasn't any more successful. "Sock on a rooster" is the phrase that comes to mind. o_O

    17. Brightfires, he's sooo cute! I love his soft expression! Yeah I discovered that Mr. Melonhead (the nickname stuck oops) can comfortably house my teeniest doll in his big ol' head...gonna need to take a picture of that. I checked Luts but the shipping to my area was like $30 D: As far as I can tell, Dollmore does that cheaper shipping that takes forever but I'm in no hurry. But they only have 8-9...hopefully that will work?

    18. How well an 8-9 wig will fit is probably going to come down to how much stretch the wig cap has... The only DollMore wig I have in that size is somewhat stretchy and does fit Yomi's head, but it's years old. I have no idea if their current wigs are made the same way or not...

    19. Oooh...I love School A heads.

I want a Michele so much. Not for stalking @eleniel with, mind you. Nope. Not that at all

    20. @CathyM how dare you tag me in a Michele post.... ;)

    21. OK, so Rigel and Michele's sales pages look like they say they're the same doll type-- but in the photo collage of them in the dorm-room, it looks like Rigel is noticeably taller. Are they both SDGr? Or is Michele SD10?

I see absolutely nothing I need in that entire newsletter, except.... except I think I see men's underwear in there. Ho yes! Unless it's really for girls and this is a cruel joke on my nearsighted eyes. It is SO rare to get Volks to make boy underwear outside of an LE fullset. I think they've done exactly 2 so far.

.... :mwahaha Well, YEAH you're going to have to take a picture of that!! This is something I gotta see.
Brings new meaning to "the brains of the operation".

    22. @JennyNemesis Michele is SD10 L-01 regular leg, Rigel is SD10 with L-02 (same legs as the old SD13 girls)
And yes they have guys underwear

    23. Well this terrible. I kinda' want them both. UGH I love a good ol' SD10 if that's what they are. They're beautiful.

    24. Guh, the way they've made up Michele and Rigel is killin me. It's a style I am a complete fool for. On one hand I am lucky, I already have a Michele but on the other hand Rigel is really cuuuuuute.

    25. @JennyNemesis @eleniel
According to the scan it's a new SD boy body. Second picture says page 32 has info on new body, which I'm guessing is the third picture that shows Rigel's body. I wonder if height's any different?

      • x 2
    26. Ah! That would explain it. Since I didn't think they made an SD10 Long-Leg model. Clever to make Rigel taller by giving him SD13 legs. But, then again....

Wow! That is news!! I see doublejointed elbows, and skinnier limbs, and more muscle definition. It's like they Graffiti-ized the SD10. And new hands, it looks like. Since they've been updating all their other bodies, I'd been wondering if the SD10 would get the same treatment. (Have they announced plans to retire the old bod?)

    27. @hanaful I'm pretty sure the new SD10 body is more or less the same size as the old one based off what I've seen (also I hadn't seen that particular link at the time I posted in here but I HAVE heard about the new SD10 body - I just hadn't seen pics yet)

    28. I'm afraid I'll need a ton of new clothes for Aidan. Gonna be expensive. Provided they'll do an international order for those samurai outfits ...

    29. Well this news is welled timed for me...a DWC 01 head "inadvertently" ended up joining me this week & we tortured all the other dolls yesterday borrowing their bodies for fit models. Going back & forth on whether its a he or a she...Since I didn't like the chunkiness of SD10, I was leaning towards saving up for a DT 13 body. Now I'll keep a close eye here as y'all do an excellent job of gleaning info & sharing it!

    30. Congrats to everyone who wants to try for a Michele! I'm not surprised that he's the next rerelease, he probably scored highly on the anniversary poll, since his secondhand price is so inflated. The SD10 boy body getting an update is timely, too, since SD10 got it with the most recent Charlotte/Lieselottes. And Rigel has that trendy Switch-like doe-eyed wide-lipped baby boy thing going on.

However, from my perspective, I'm a little sad to see more boys, 50% of whom aren't new, right after they had boys twice with Black Jack and Kiriko. I feel like the FCS heads are where the interesting new sculpting action can be found, but of course, those end up even more difficult to obtain than the limiteds. I'm looking forward to an F-67 girl, but how far forward is anyone's guess!

    31. Any news on the DWC winners?? :o They mentioned that they'll announce in the next Volks News which is this one, #67!

    32. Rigel, and that wig!:D

Yes, and I also must confess when I read boys dormitory, my mind went straight into the gutter.

A link to a picture of the new body. 『ボークスニュース67 続き』

    33. Those YoSD kimonos are adorable. Too bad I don't have any dolls that can wear them. I also like the blue and the pink dresses but I already spent enough on clothes this month so I'll pass. I think the only thing I really really want this round is Michele... I'll cry if I can't get him. :atremblin

    34. I was frankly expecting a lot more from a DP with a Boys' Dormitory theme. Like, actual boys' dormitory related clothing? I believe the only thing I'm eyeing up is Michele and Rigels socks lmao.

The blue ballerina-y set is pretty too, but I don't have a girl in that size.

    35. Hey, they ARE releasing boys underwear and not even in just boring solids! Boys dormitory?

    36. These dolls are the closest I ever want to be to a boys dormitory ever again in my life. :horror: +

Also: yay for more underwear. Volks can NEVER release enough shoes or underwear. Ever.

I have to ask- do their feet/shoes seem HUGE to anyone else? It really does evoke the ungainly look intended SD10 Boy age but I wonder if that is an actual change in foot size or Volks is just dressing them in huge shoes? :? Whichever it is... I dig it!

Thank you for the links to the scans, revien and insertcoin!:aheartbea

    37. @nakitaninja yes to both-- Volks guys have big feet, AND Volks tends to make their shoes oversized! I too noticed the aircraft-carrier shoes on those little SD10 boys. But y'know, big shoes make for good solid standing. The broader the base, the taller the tower. :D

This was one of the two boys' underwear sets I've got from Volks... Boxer briefs with a little stripe on top, khaki tanktop. <3 Couldn't be cuter, suitable for any boys' dormitory. (As modeled by Reika back in 2010, before he lost his default earring & before he got his distinctive eyes.)

    38. @JennyNemesis that outfit(?) is probably pretty accurate clothing for a boys dormitory. I suppose it must be a bit cold if he has a shirt on at all? Volks isn't releasing any tops with the new underwear so maybe this dorm is in a warmer location

    39. Too bad no tops with the new undies, but ne'mind, they're cute enough on their own. Still, it would be nice of Volks to make more of this basic item, the plain spandex-cotton racerback tank top for boys, in a size that's slim enough to fit SDGr. (If you're gonna keep making your boy dolls skinnier & skinnier, you should at least make more slim-cut clothing!) If they'd make this top in black & in white, I'd be a happy cavegirl.

It may be cold, or it may just be that Reika's a little self-conscious about being small-boned. I'm sure he kept his tank top on in front of the other boys in his dormitory back when he was in college. ^^

      • x 1
    40. I'd love it if they made the tops, underwear, or sets basic items. I occasionally wonder if my boys would wear them more often if Volks would actually release them. I have the pairs that came with the Ryoya and Kei sets, but those things are so soft and delicate - my boys would wear holes right through them. (And they do, I have an extra pair of Ryoya underwear because my first pair now have holes...)

My boys don't seem to mind too much though. Kei especially seems entirely content to sit around without underthings on - I think he worries underwear would leave a line under his painted on leather pants- but he's not nearly as modest as Reika. Kei's idea of a top right now consists of a leather vest - only closed at the very bottom - and jewelry. It's a modest look for him.

      • x 2
    41. Yeah, underwear doesn't fit under fitted pants too well-- so I file it to "For Recreational Use Only". It's mostly for my own amusement.

My other SDGr is of course not quite as modest as Reika is; Yuki would rather have a lace thong than some nice boxer-briefs. He and Reika never have to compete for the Volks clothing.

    42. I'm happy to see the SD boy body get a renewal but those shoes really do look huge. I almost wonder if they are giving them larger feet?

      • x 1
    43. Its probably just Volks making a "one size fits all" item again as they've been doing so often lately. My poor graffiti boys, how are they supposed to fit in SD13/SDGr/SD17/SDGOU size clothing? The shoes are so ridiculously huge. I have one pair for 13/gr boys and if you pick the doll up the shoes just fall off because they also fit 17/gou

      • x 1
    44. Yuki is gorgeous as always!:whee:

Why doesn't Volks just embrace that idea and make lace thongs for their more mature male dolls? They always hint around it but never actually make the fundoshi or other fun items for their boys. (though I suppose fundoshi would be super simple to make?) It's okay for the female dolls to have super sexy underwear and "pantsu" but the boys seem to be woefully neglected...

I totally think that is a direction they should move in!;)

    45. :abow: Amen! More recreational male underwear pleeze yes kthx. Girls already have everything.

Making a fundoshi at this size is actually pretty hard. I tried it on poor Shinji, and it took a lot of twisting and tinkering and shopping for extra-fine fabric weight before I could get something that didn't look like a big wadded-up diaper. I sure WOULD rather wish that Volks would make a ready-made slip-on model.

    46. @rianne I love how all the colors contrast with each other, his dark complexion and bright hair, her fair skin and fiery hair, its such a pretty picture to look at <3

@persimmon_27 Cyan's lovely! There aren't much short hair wigs that fit the 9-10, atleast not recently. It used to be more prevalent back then when it was a popular size. I sometimes purchase smaller wigs and stretch it out.. this isn't ideal, but its always worked for me and the melon head girls I have, "focus" on stretched the back if that makes sense? If you are good with styling short hair, Leeke has a decent selection, but stick with darker hair if you dont want the risk of wefts showing.

@snowgray I was hoping for more girls too! Not rereleases, but newer sculpts in the same vein as Belle, more realistic but still stylised. Im happy that Michele is rereleased, but I expected a rerelease of Lorina/Alice since Ive heard a lot of rumours about that.

@nakitaninja I thought the same thing about the feet! I think they've made it interchangeable with SDGR boys since the older feet rarely had masculine looking shoes, so they upped the size? lol at the thong idea, but Im pretty sure it will sell well XD I would buy one!

@JennyNemesis That looks really good! You've done a great job - I had to google what it was, and it looks authentic lol XD

Rigel and Michele look beautiful, but Im "safe". Im happy for everyone that is going to enter to get a chance at getting Michele, I know he's regarded as a grail by many. I might try my hand at the fullset outfit because I like how nautical it looks. I thought the body was the same as the SD boy body with the new jointed elbows in the current FCS (like Lieselotte and Charlotte's new SD body), but after I compared the two, they really are "SDGR"ized as you guys said. The torso is just about the only thing that looks the same as the FCS SD boy body. I really love the styling and the photoshoot by Volks!

I am obsessed with the samurai and corset petticoat clothing, especially the SD16 outfit <3 Im thinking it will be available for internationals since the last samurai-ish looking outfits were available too.

    47. That is unspeakably awesome!:fangirl:
      :aheartbea:aheartbeaHuzzah for chiseled butt cheeks!:aheartbea:aheartbea

Ya know, I didn't even think about the need for the fabric to be extra fine for the detail work but you're right- that would be very difficult to accomplish at that size. They never showed the back of Kondo but I think it was the nonbraided kind...? Does that exist? I know nothing about fundoshi (except that it is awesome) so maybe there's really only one kind?

[IMG]fundoshi reference? by NakitaN, on Flickr

I'd post that Kondo pic again but I think I've put it in this thread twice already for purposes of humor. :sweat It's here if anyone is curious about the reference...

I'd buy fundoshi from Volks even though I don't have anyone to wear it at the moment!

    48. @hanaful Thank you. ^^
@HardCandy13 Aww, thanks! I'm really pleased with how they turned out; I always fancied the idea of a palette-swapped couple. :3

    49. @JennyNemesis that's an amazing fundoshi you did! :thumbup

@nakitaninja yes, Kondo's fundoshi is non braided at the back. It looks exactly the same like on your reference picture. Also second re-release of Hijikata comes with the same fundoshi as Kondo. You may check Wiki there are many types of fundoshi. ;)
I also started to sew underwear and socks for my boys, because almost every time boys come without it, lol Or it's just too small for SD17 somehow....

    51. Thanks to you & @HardCandy13 too ! I only ended up taking 2 pix and never posting them, because I still think there must be a better fabric for doll fundoshi out there. This is almost gauze, and still a little thick. It might also look tidier if I were to sew the 'cup' onto a string and make a slip-on model instead of trying to do the authentic twist.

But it was still a fun experiment! Because hooray chiselled buttcheeks.

As Ksusha says, yes, there are different ways to tie a fundoshi. If you look for your instructions on YouTube, be careful not to fall down a rabbit-hole. A girl can easily lose track of a whole afternoon watching all those butts.

    52. I totally agree! about both the foot size, samurai outfits... and the thongs!:love + I can't wait to see how amazing your girls look in those outfits- especially Jawaher. I am so in love with her and hope she gets to try one on! :aheartbea I've also been waiting on those geta to be rereleased for FOREVER. There's a pair of those in my future for sure~

You know the limited experience I had with Saito boxers... well, they just seemed to get all waddy? waddie? wadded? At any rate, they didn't look comfortable. (Just had some lesser surgery done and on pain killers so linguistic nuances elude me. Words are hard, man.:sweat) The socks that came with him were waaaay tight too. Not "Smart Doll shoes and socks tight" = basically impossible to put on the doll but still a fair bit of work. I always admire people who can sew doll clothing well because of all those tiny stitches!

      a) We need more experiments like that and many photos of those experiments as well! :aheartbea

      b) Oh. my. god. Why didn't I think of that sooner?! I'm just gonna harness my inner Tina Belcher right this minute and go straight over to youtube.... :nosebleed

    53. It's way too easy to turn into Tina Belcher.

    54. It still looks very cool, I would like to see a front side too actually! In addition it's on Shinji! ;)

I didn't know you had Saito! And yes, I had the same problem with Saito boxer and with boxers of same fabric and design that came with SD17 boys. It's too small, so that's why they look pretty painful on them ;) I have probably only two big boys that came with good boxers, it's SD17 Shiro and SDGou Yukinojo! Also I'm just a beginner in sewing, so I took Chinese boxer 'Calvin Klein' as an example to made them, since they look simple enough. Ok, let's do some quick boxers advertisement ;)

From left to right: Chinese 'Calvin Klein', homemade, homemade, Shiro's default, Yukinojo default.

      @wherethelilacsbloom Your girl is pretty!

    55. Hello everyone ~ It's been a long while since I have posted on this forum. I have a question about Volks SD16. I am having a hard time finding hands for this doll size. I like to change my doll hands a lot. I see some that are on Dollfie World but are easily double their original price. Does anyone else know where I can possibly get the hands? Thank you ~

    56. Hi everyone,
I'm still new-ish here and just pop in to say hello. So many lovely SDs are here <3<3
This is my Shizuo (it was a cat day in Japan several days ago.=^^=) and Nagisa (FSC44).
Considering to put Shizuo on a SD16g body one day.
      Cheers!

    57. Wowww, what a wonderful underwear ad! :fangirl: It sure looks like they're expecting SDGou to fit normally into SD17 size underwear, because yowch! those are small on him. (And I'll bet they also pretend that SD17's underwear is for SD13 and SDGr too. ^^) When they made SD16 Yukinojo's boxer-briefs, they actually sized it generously enough for his SD16 bottom, but that was a long time ago. Being able to sew underwear would be a valuable skill indeed. :)

Your wish is my command, so here is the other side of the fundoshi.
