Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XVII

Well I finally made progress on my Tohya make over. Thanks to the owners in this thread who gave me fantastic advice on the girl body type for this head. I ended up not using the SD16 after all. The hands just seemed too big when compared to his head size. The SDgr body is working out nicely but there is indeed a small head gap in the back as warned, but I'm ok with it.

This dress is wayyyyyyyyyy too girly for her personality but I wanted to share where I was at with the face-up and hair cut. I'm still thinking of a name. But YEY I finally feel like this doll is mine all mine!!!!!

 

@Isenn @Kim : I didn't know Silver didn't make 10mm's I visited her booth at Dolpa 34 and asked for that size lol. You know she's professional because she whipped out her eye measuring tool(?) and was measuring the irises for me She and her assistant were very sweet! I read her blog before and I think she may have went through cancer treatment Through my limited Japanese, I overheard one of the customers asking her if she was all okay now and she is ^^ I'm proud to own two pairs from this artist!

Also, I was just about to place a big Taobao order and realised its that time of year again. Chinese New Year holidays I have nothing against CNY holiday but I hate that I can't place any orders and it seems to drag on for sooooo long Orz"

Actually looking at the picture some more I think the dress suits her. It almost feels like a challenge.

Granted I don't know what personality you have in mind for her, but to me there is an "I am who I am and I dare you to try and take that from me" feeling to her.

I just received Volks Irvin in the mail! Not a doll I expected to get, but I was on an elf kick and I really wanted a dark skinned boy to dress up in all the old gothicy Cadenza outfits I have lying around. So, yeah.

Somehow the Ebony skin color wasnt quite what I expected. I thought it'd be a bit more "milky" looking. Still interesting though. His default wig if def a fav of mine despite it not even a little bit fitting on his head (good job Volks). I'll have to get a wig stopper.

 

I miss my Irvin. I sold him to get another doll which I didn't bond with and sold later. I hope I can find him again someday.

 

I see what you mean. I admit, there was something interesting about sticking her in that pink dress. It clashed (in a good way) with the image I had of her. To answer your question, yes she was originally a boy doll. He is a 2008 Tohya model and I was lucky to pick him up on DOA with his full set. I purchased a female SDgr body here on the market place with the intention of making Tohya a girl. I like moody eyes on my girls.

@revien. I love Irvin. He is truly a beautiful thing. I have a Kaelin and I often feel the pull to get Irvin too. I love the mold and Irvin's skin color is special. Is that a beautiful Amakusa with him? Another boy with beautiful sculpting.

 

I seriously think I want one just like her. She's perfect a really amazing job.

I don't have any old Cadenza outfits lying about...if I did, the guys would insist on wearing them...but if there were a chance of bringing home those adorable elven ears & Irvin sculpt, I am sure I could come up with some equally clear excuse for doing so. ;D

Unfortunately my other boys just don't look Quite Right in frills and lace. Shame, really.

 

All the more reason to "need" Irvin revien. He'll just have to be the clothes diva of your household...

 

An Irvin needs no excuses. (At least, that's what I told myself with Jet. XD)

 

Irvin and Kaelin both look ridiculously good in lace.

 

Actually I've always wanted to make a Kaelin girl myself. I think he would make a gorgeous girl. I would dress her in lots of lacy dresses.

Kaelin is really cute too! I very breifly considered getting elf twins, but I prefer the normal and tan skins to white (even though white looks great in photos). If they ever re-released the sculpt in normal though...

 

I too like Kaelins & Irvins in lots of goth ruffles or other fancy clothes (like that forest-elf outfit Irvin came with). Their face has a sort of precious look about it, like they're not even in the same universe as bluejeans. ^^

I cannot get these Shiro guys to wear ruffles, that's for sure. Other people have had such charming adorable endearing successes putting their Shiros in ruffles, but all 4 of mine will nope right outta there. But I did get Kimo to try long hair for the first time:

A NS version of Irvin might be enough to get me to break my "That's enough of you guys. No more room at the inn!"-resolution.

I think Artemis would explode if I tried to put him in ruffles and lace. 'Just self-destruct, right there, into a defiant little pile of resin chunks and DoNotWant.

 

I've always loved your dolls and photos but you've truly outdone yourself with Tohya. You can feel the character of the doll almost tangibly through the photograph and I adore it! What a success! She's gorgeous~

Srsly Volks yes plz. This can only mean good things! Those bastids always have my number.

So who is the lovely one-off whiteskinned boy pictured in that news announcement? Anyone recognize him? I feel like I should. The faceup is unusual. I love how pale his lips are. All I know is he's a one-off. Google Translate did not spit back anything much more coherent than that.

 

A new storyline!? Volks! What are you doing, Volks!

Good eye @Nell ! I never would have thought Minoru... that faceup changes him amazingly! Absolutely beautiful.

I think one of the boys is Michele... So the other doll is new doll? Their clothes are so cute.

Oh, I don't have Twitter, so that's why I hang out here for intel. ^^ It's remarkable how different the sculpt looks in white resin, with a different faceup; I see the trademark square chin, but totally didn't recognize any of Minoru's other features. I love it when my eye is 'tricked' by amazing styling into not recognizing a familiar face.

 

I guess we'll start seeing photos Sunday night as Volks News starts delivering on Feb 15 in Japan. The mystery boys looks like Michelle but the other one … kind looks like Kei? I guess we'll have to sweat it out until the big reveal! And the one on the left looks like an SDGr body with the new arms.

 

@JennyNemesis That outfit looks amazing on him. I like the back drop in this photo too. The urban decay style works so well his overall look.

I tried boys and sadly I failed at them. However, I have to say the make-up and sculpts are just dreamy. I love this new storyline and it so much fun to see Volks do something different! I wonder what the plot will be...

I really thought that I was safe from any more Volks boys, but Rigel is adorable! Why, Volks, why are you doing this to me!?! Not only a chance for a DearSD, but a cute new boy as well, when I'm supposed to be saving for a trip to Japan in April!

According to a friend, these dolls won't be available for AE lottery :-( These dolls are only going to be available for dolpa and sumika lottery... T_T

I tried to make it work! So glad you appreciated the effort. Hahaha~ The Volks storylines are sometimes the best part of the characters they create! I laugh about half the time but I always buy into it in the end. Boy's Dormitory? Interstellar Academy? How gorgeous these dolls are? Sold.

I would love to hear other people's pitches/speculation for the official storyline! We have some funny people on this thread and I think between all of us we could come up with something pretty spectacular! (I'm looking at you, @JennyNemesis among many others! )

WOw, I want Rigel's WIG look at that tousled blonde perfection. And while I sold my Michele a long time, I've sort of had the hankering to get him back. Michele's my all time fave Volks sculpt. He always looks so shitty and mean with that sneer of his. Are those new SD boy hands?

 

Michele is my dream sculpt I wish I would have him but I don't have money at this time because I bought Creamy mami from my friend. *crying*
