SO, for a very long time I had been adamant about how I already had my grail and all this talk of grail dolls was silly and oh no it means something totally different to me, and then naturally that all came apart when I actually got the chance to purchase a Volks Saitou Hajime which had been a silent little pipedream of mine because I've always really enjoyed the 'character' of Saitou Hajime in whatever anime uses historical figures for their fictional versions of them. Plus, I've always really wanted a Volks doll which was something I wasn't super vocal about but, actually having held one now, posed one and just felt the resin, I can safely say Volks fans I totally get it now, LOL! I am beyond happy with him! Even though I have been going for larger/heavier dolls lately, I absolutely adore the size/weight of this guy. His body is a dream to pose and I can pretty much plunk him down flat foot and he'll stand. I usually have to fiddle a bit around the ankles but nope! He feels super solid and I can honestly say out of all my dolls, he is hands down the best sitter. He needs no support to sit upright and that's awesome to me. His fullset was great quality and I was so impressed! The shoes kind of fell apart when I tried to get them on but ... I expected that and shouldn't have even attempted to do so, I'm planning on getting him some black boots! The belt/swordholder was also delicate because of the pleather so I had to treat them very gently! I'm not entirely sure if I'm going to keep him in his original fullset or not. I'm going to see what it looks like with new boots and make my decision then! I'm also a bit torn on keeping the original face up/eyes too. I'm sure we will see! Regardless, I love him and he's already fitting in.
Congratulations on getting your first Volks doll! Isn't the resin and body design lovely? Volks clothing are also pretty good quality, especially the LE sets. Don't be afraid to wipe his faceup and customize his look, if it comes down to that. I've found that Volks sculpts really shine when they have custom faceups. It's so cool to see the reactions of first-time Volks owners, thanks for sharing your experience. Having had two Super Dollfies before and sold both, I still find myself pining for Volks resin, and the sturdiness and quality of the bodies. (One day, I'll have another one. )
Another Hajime owner! I think he's an underrated sculpt. Congratulations on getting him with his fullset! Don't worry about his shoes disintegrating – all but one of my Volks fullsets I've bought secondhand have had that happen (Prince Claude seems to have the sturdiest shoes). I hope you have a lot of fun playing with him
