Resin Comparison Volks resin match thread (lots of comparisons inside)

Thank you for starting this BabyTarragon -- this is very helpful. There is also some info in the "Hybrids of All Sizes thread". If you want to move info from here into your post or if you would like me to rearrange this just tell me... if i weren't such a technophobe I could work out how to "link to individual thread" and not clutter up the post with so many pix... (if anyone wants to explain it to me ...)

Here is a comparison pic I took of resins I had lying around (natural light, outside, overcast day). The Volks here is 2007 Volks pureskin:


Here is a second one (natural sunlight, indirect on a sunny day)

All the headcaps are from male dolls except the Soom cream white, which is from Beryl. The dates are unknown on Souldoll (from the old resin though), late 2007 on the pureskin 2002 or 2003 on the oldskin, July 2008 on the Crobi, April 2008 on the Unidoll and Soom Cream, and approximately 2008 on the Soom NS.

These are all things I have heard -- I have only a little experience with trying to match Volks resin and am new to the Volks obsession, so, take this with a grain of salt.) If anyone would like to confirm or contradict these and add pix that would be very helpful. (If I heard anything about proportions, I made note of that too.) I gave as much info as I was given (I'll add info as I get it).

I have quoted pix from other threads when I found them, since it seemed useful to have them all in one place.

-- AOD normal Y -- AOD's new normal yellow skin seems designed to match Volks. I emailed them and asked about the match and they said they couldn't guarantee it and I should do more research, but basically yes.
-- B&G NS matches Volks pureskin almost perfectly

-- CP Luts/ Delf NS: various report. I have heard that it was a "bad color match" and also that it was very good -- I imagine this is due to the infamous resin variations. You can find quite a number of pictures of this combination and comments on it on the "Hybrids of All Sizes" thread so I haven't repeated them here.

-- Dollkot "a bit paler than pureskin"

-- Dollshe was the wrong color (and the proportions were ridiculous with an SD17 head)
-- Dollstown looked great (and great proportions with an SD17 head)
-- Dollzone Normal Skin "yellow" matches Volks pureskin almost perfectly (speculation that an SD17 head would look strange)

-- Domuya NS -- I read that this was "a nice match," but I have a recent (2007 I believe) head on an older NS Domuya standard body and I would say it was "OK"... you can see more of a difference in real life than you can in the picture. This is an SD17 Alain head on a Domuya standard body -- it's a little bobble-headed, but not as much as I thought it would be (given that the Domuya standard is 60.5 cm and the SD17 much taller; you could also use a Domuya flexi perennial body, which is taller). It works without any modding.




-- Elysium and pureskin I found this match to be fine, but not quite "near perfect" -- see the picture of resin matches above. (I don't know how much color variation Elysium has.)
A report from the hybrids thread says this is "near perfect":

-- Fdoll (Fantasy Doll) NS is a little yellower (Volks School A head a little bobbleheaded and big for the neck)

-- SoulDoll resin is a little pinker (SD17 head fit with no modifications and proportions were good)

I'm glad it's helpful SueMe3. I've added a comparison picture to the post above and a couple of updates (on Domuya, Elysium) based on my own observations.

 

yeah thank's is really hard for doll owner when the batch resin color is swifting to another. My NS Elysium and oceanmoon is from the 2008 and I have hard to find to buy a body to have for both

 

This is an SD17 pureskin head on an SD13 Oldskin body -- the proportions are fine and the resins match really well (I don't even notice a difference unless I stop to think about it). The pureskin has a kind of luminosity or glow, but the actual colors are very similar.

 

SD16 Olivia on old style Souldoll boy body. Same info applies, relatively good match, no mods needed and is in good proportion:

 

I second that. I have put my Alain head on an Old Souldoll boy body and like it a lot. (By the way, Olivia makes a lovely boy -- I like her much better as a boy in fact!)

have to ask I see that you posted Crobidoll NS and Unidoll, it that picture they look like they match a bit does it do that in real life too? And also what head of crobidoll is the head-cap?

 

Hmm... they are both pale, but Uni is a bit yellower than Crobi -- Uni NS is really weird in that it has no pinky undertone at all. The best resin match I've found for Uni NS is AOD WS, and Soom cream works OK too. I think you could make Uni and Crobi work, but Crobi is better with Volks (oldskin or pureskin) or Soom NS.
The head cap is of Lance.

Anyone have resin comparisons with the Volks new UV cut pureskin NS? I have a Souseiseki and a Pearl in need of bodies but I want something relatively mature- at least for Pearl.

According to this thread the old (pre-2008) DIM NS also matches Volks pureskin, although the newer resin color is reported to be paler.

I am looking for a tall, about 70cm body for my Ryoya head. Would love to see a comparision with DollZone yellow. I can see laeticia's comment (thank you!), but I worry that a new Volks head won't be a good match with DollZone yellow-- from what I've heard, Dollzone yellow is too yellow comparing to Volks... I've actually seen a Volks doll with a DollZone doll during a doll meet-- the DollZone doll really was more yellow but it was about two years older than the Volks... Would love to see a comparision of new DZ with new Volks...

 

No, I've not thought about Dollmore Model I will check the body out! Besides DollZone, I was thinking about Spiritdoll...

 

I went looking for pictures of DollMore and Volks and the match was bad-- DollMore is lighter and pinker... Maybe now the colour is different than at the time you took the pic? Thanks though!

This thread is very helpful. It's one of like the only threads that mentions dolkot's resin in comparison to anothers. I see that the normal skin will work,according to this thread. But what about a white skin? I'm wanting a dolkot hara head on a volks dolfie dream body. It's my dream dollie!!

What's Volks pureskin like next to Fairyland NS? I'm thinking of making a hybrid of a Volks SDC/MSD head with a Fairyland a-line boy body.

Okay, I don't get the whole Volks system >: I'm looking for something I can use to hybrid (I'm poor :B and not a huge fan of Volks) my Volks whiteskin Kill_U 2nd head with. Dr.Seiji compared him with one of her own whiteskin Volks dolls and it was a perfect match so he hasn't yellowed, and he's frooom...2006, I believe. 60cm tall. What on earth can I use?

You might also take a look at Crobidoll's M-line body. I have my Volks Genji head on a NS Crobidoll body and it's a perfect match! No modding was needed. ^^

I'm trying to match 2009 Volks pureskin heads with mature (at least more mature than Volks) MSD bodies.

I tried 2010 Unoa and it's too pale, 2008 Unoa was grayish, 2007 Unoa too yellow. (just in case anyone was curious).
I also tried LeekeWorld 2010 and it was darker and more pink.

 

Can anyone recommend which shade of Dikadoll resin (n-yellow or n-pink) is better suited for the new Volks resin colour?

 

Probably N-Yellow. Their Pink is very close to DOD pink.

 

Bump for this thread before I attempt to make my own~

I'd like to see an SD17 Williams (since I'm actually getting one XD) on a slightly smaller body, like from 62-68cm. Especially if there's a match or fit with Luts SDF or SSDF bodies and also Spiritdoll 70cm.

 

Does anyone know if a Delf head would fit on a Volks SD13 body?

Hi, the info is wonderful! But, does anyone know if there's any resin color change for the new volks (i.e. the 2011 batch). I remember reading from other forum that the new skin color changes a lot compare to the old one.

 

UV protect pureskin, which is what all new Volks dolls are, to me, is a bit paler than non-UV protect pureskin. All pureskin, whether UV protect or not, has a different translucency than oldskin in that pureskin has a slight surface translucency that oldskin does not have. The colour difference between oldskin and non-UV protect pureskin is minimal. Non UV-protect pureskin in my experience is more prone to yellowing than either oldskin or UV-protect pureskin.

So, recent dolls I feel are a bit paler than dolls made 4 or 5 years ago, but other than that, any colour difference is going to result from yellowing which is based on how well the doll was cared for.

 

Does anyone know if Illusion Spirit Normal Yellow resin matches Volks? They said it does and I'm not sure if Williams in UV protect pureskin or just normal skin. I'd like to know before I order a body.
