Volks Renewal Service

Nov 12, 2025

    1. I've made a want post for a Volks doll from 2017 that I want on our marketplace and on some Facebook groups. In my naivete I said I wouldn't consider a doll with any yellowing. However, someone kindly pointed out to me that a doll that old would most likely have some kind of yellowing. They suggested that could send a yellowed doll the the Volks renewal service. Has anyone ever done this? Do you need to have some of the original paperwork, and do they serve overseas customers?

    2. I have a doubt that Volks doesn't offer it regularly for overseas customers because most of their services require a Japanese address, but maybe someone smarter can confirm or debunk this. However, since you're in the US, Satogaeri/renewal services have been offered at the LA Dolpas so that's definitely an option you could use. Your doll will need to have a headplate and birth certificate (if the model came with one originally). Here's the service's info on their Japanese site also (the dolpa link will have most of it in English though).

As for the yellowing itself - a doll from 2017 will definitely have it, but that doesn't mean it is something you will notice unless you have fresh resin to compare to. Pigments used have gotten more stable over the years and Volks' resin ages pretty gracefully. I wouldn't worry about it too much when hunting for your doll second hand :)

    3. I can't speak to the renewal services, but I can concur that the yellowing isn't necessarily super noticeable at that age! With my ~2015 Megu in Pureskin Fair, I only go "Hmm, you're the oldest of my dolls, that's for sure," when I dress her in purple and the contrast brings the yellow tones out.

    4. Depends on the doll. One off models have a certificate with a name needs to match the name of the person exchanging it. I think most other dolls are fair game for an exchange. The doll also needs to have its headplate. Since you are wanting to exchange a 2017 doll, I assume it's a limited doll with no certificate. A proxy in Japan should be able to do it for you.

More info in english is on this page:

This service is ONLY offered at Dolpa. To use it, you will need to travel in person to LA around next September probably.

IMO, it's a little pointless to exchange a newer doll since the resin will be back to the same color in a few years anyway. It makes more sense to me if the doll is closer to 20 years old and hasn't been rereleased. It won't be cheap, but you certainly can exchange if buying an evenly yellowed doll is a dealbreaker for you.

    5. My Mai was produced November 2017 and her yellowing is very minor; it's slightly noticeable when I use newer hand parts on her but not so bad that the casual observer would notice it.

    6. I'm a little confused. You can actually get a whole doll replaced? I was just think of having the face-up redone if it was damaged and sanding out yellowing.

    7. Yes, you can have the entire doll replaced. You can also just choose to have it sand blasted to take off the top layer of yellowing.

Unless the doll is on a body that is harder to get, it's likely going to be cheaper just to buy a used one that was more recently released to match the head. I would never ever renew an SD10 body, for example. A WS SDGr body could be worth running the numbers for though.

    8. I live in Japan and have done this a few time, they accept both faceup renewal and resin parts renewal, the price is vary among doll size and rarity, etc.

To do this with doll head, a head plate intact is the the must. Paper and document is a plus (If you have paper, they kind of skip most part of genuinity inspection).

***This have some exception though, some doll need certificate and the owner name that match the paper, or cannot use this service at all due to some copyright problem

I'm not sure if the oversea customer can take this service, you might need to ask Volks directly or find someone who live in Japan to do this.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.
