I rescued and restored this little guy after someone in a discord server I'm in linked him. He had some really crazy yellowing but I thought a good sanding would fix it, and I was right! I'm usually not even a big fan of minis, but I'm really enamored with him.

Even his knee peanuts were really yellowed, and his faceup and face had UV damage too so that got sanded as well. I made a reel that shows some of the pieces mid-sanding.

 

@Astro Wonderful job! He looks absolutely amazing now and that faceup really brings him to life.

 

Hello! Long shot but I was wondering if anyone has seen any good SDC hybrids around? The bodies don't pop up for sale very often so I've put my Arashi head on an old Dollzone body for now (with a lot of help from sueding the neckhole) but of course it's not exactly ideal. Just curious if anyone has seen a good combo that is not MSD/SDM!

I did just see a SDC girl body on Mandarake, but it's already gone. Wish I could help, but my 2 SDC heads are on the SDC boy body and MSD girl body

I put another wig on Nonoo as well, I think I love it more than the short orange one, although it's also a very different look.

 

Oh wow, the new wig gives her a completely different feeling!

After hearing about how big SDC neck holes are, I checked my two head and...wow yeah. Volks, why?

@cobaltconduct I can try placing my sdc head on the body in list below, let me know if you are interesting to see any (The color will not match, but you can purchase the closer color for some of them)

- Lina Chouchou 1/4 Girl
- Soom 1/4 Boy (Boy and girl neck circumference are the same for soom)
- Dream of doll DOC boy/girl (Company already defunct though)

I also have Charmdoll and Fairyland 1/4 body but almost sure that thay are not good match

 

@xxxsaturnxxx your Gretel is so sweet! Thank you for the offer as well - unfortunately SDC boy heads have an even larger neckhole than girls (Volks... why?) T_T But if it's not much trouble, I'd love to see the head on a soom body!

It turns out that aside from the resin color, soom body seem to give a good proportion and also no gap. The neck circumference even a bit bigger than my original SDC girl's, so I think you can give it a try.

Hello all! First time posting in this thread.
I am currently waiting for an older Volks MSD girl I got here. ^.^

I had a question about VOLKS MSD dolls... does anyone knows is MSDs have heeled feet option? I would like to use heeled shoes for her in a future. I have been looking but I haven't seen much yet.

 

No, Volks never made heel feet for MSD, SDM, nor SDC. However, most heeled shoes meant for MSD (not the slim minis like Minifee) are made to fit the flat feet. Which MSD are you waiting on?

 

Recently added a second Mika to my collection and just finished giving her a a little makeover! A little curious about where she came from, the seller told me she was given to them by Volks USA a long long time ago and had never been "played" with by them, but they had no other information about her and did not seem to be a doll collector at all. She came with default Mika's wig, eyes and box, but wearing a different outfit (which doesn't seem to be Volks) and this is definitely not her default faceup. Her eyelashes and eyes were also taped in?



I did admittedly overpay for her (nowhere near the seller's insane original price at least but still higher than I'd expect for an old MSD) but I love her regardless this is one of my favorite sculpts and the only one I intend to collect multiple of

 

@lunar-dream304, your second Mika is a darling; I like to think you rescued her from her previous owner.

Does she have a head plate, and if so, what does it say? Her face-up might be Volks, perhaps an early Coordinate model?

Taped-in lashes and eyes is odd; I used to tape in lashes because I hated the gluing process, but I've never taped in eyes!

Coordinate Model or FCS doll is my guess too, but the Standard Model Mika box/eyes/wig she came with gave me pause. Since her lashes and eyes were taped in, I have to wonder if she was a doll they kept around as a display piece for fashions or something and needed the eyes to be easily removed and replaced, hence the tape. The faceup does look like one from Volks to me, but it's hard to say!

Unfortunately no head plate! I wish she did have one since it would be easier to figure out the year she was released, but the lack of head plate is also the reason I was able to get the seller to take a lower offer lol. All of the seller's other dolls are from 2004-2005 so that gives some hint as to when she was made, but the seller never told me when exactly they got her so it could have been much later than that!

I adore her so I suppose that's all that matters, but it does make my brain itch to not know where she came from a little bit

 

I took some SDC/MSD comparison photos last night - I've spent so much time looking for those myself so I figured they might be interesting for others, too

Arashi gaps a lot and sits too low without any hot glue help. Myu looks perfect, though, which I didn't expect with her huge head.

SDC girl heads are SO SMALL and the boy heads SO BIG. I'm truly baffled by Volks' choices with that line (especially with the neck size difference - 1/4 doll with 8.5cm neck hole is outrageous imo).

I thought SDCs fitting YO-SD wigs was a bad joke until receiving my Kaede - the boys definitely will not but here I see that there's a slight chance as the head isn't that far off from a Unoa head. I measured and got 18cm (millimeter here or there for error) for the circumference on the SDC girl so as long as it's a stretchy one, a 6-7 wig might fit.


Dollzone 045-002 body.
The small head and neck size will hybrid well with mature mini bodies (unlike SDC boys that are a hassle in that regard).


Huajing v4 body.
I thought it'd be ridiculous but actually not bad at all? Also, if looking to rebody a yellowed volks head, light tan seems to be an option that requires only slight blushing to match!

If anyone has any other relevant requests, gimme a shout! I'll gladly play musical bodies again

 

Great photos. Can you please take a photo of Dollzone 045-002 body without clothes with Msd head and Sdc head? People are always looking for hybrid bodies ideas. I should take measurements of all the SDC girl heads. They appear to vary quite a bit, Ren is a bit of a melon head compared to Kaede. My Kurenai even struggles with 6-7 wigs sometimes. Would that be helpful to anyone?

 

I'm waiting on my first Super Dollfie doll, an MSD Schulze! I'm so excited for him!!

Arashi needs a lot of neck help (hot gluing the neckhole and the neck to raise the head higher), MSD looks very bobble-headed and Kaede is a pretty good fit.

I think collecting head sizes is a great idea @RamenDoodles ! If I remember right, Arashi is 20cm in circumference and Kaede 18cm.

 

Done! Here's what I got in inches (my tape measure doesn't have centimeters unfortunately):
Kaede - 7”
Kurenai - 7.25”
Ren - 7.5”
Sora - 7”
Gretel - 7.25”

I put this info on the Wiki under the Wigs section, hopefully it'll be of some help to someone. I always knew Ren was a melon head, now I have proof!

 

My MSD Schulze arrived this week! I named him Isshō. Right now he has on a temp wig and eyes, but I'm really excited for his outfit, eyes, and wig to come in soon!

I finally dressed up my SDMs today after they've been in their summer vibes for the last few months! I've not had much time recently to dress my dolls and take pictures of them but I've really missed them!

Outfit I created today for Mako. I've been obsessed with the idea of making her some brand dresses ever since Volks announced the Baby, the stars shine bright colab. I think lolita suits her.

I got these wigs for another doll- they are supposed to be 7-8 but don't fit any other MSDs! Then I remembered SDC have smaller heads, so Charlotte and Edwina got new wigs!

Aw, she's so cute! The bodice style is just like those old school dresses. Did you use fabric from an old headdress/katyusha?

 

Thank you It's actually a tiny replica of an old school dress, Baby the stars shine bright border op. I used photos of the dress to recreate the pattern in photoshop, and then printed the fabric myself.

 

This is so amazing! I love lolita and this is so spot on. I hope you continue making replica inspired doll dresses because this is absolutely gorgeous!

 

Can anyone confirm if there's SDM size "praying" hands? Mandarake uploaded a set labelled as SDM, but I can't find them elsewhere. I suspect they're the SD ones and have been mislabelled.

Did you print the fabric yourself or get a commercial printing company to do it? I'm very tempted to make some mini Sugar Bouquet dresses for my girls...

 

I think they might be mislabeled SD hands because SDM-H-08 look like this and they seem to be the exact same sculpt as the SD praying hands, which are SD-H-08. It was probably together with the two pairs of SDM hands that were listed at the same time, hence the mix up? Mandarake does mislabel and put things in the wrong category sometimes. SDM praying hands would be super cute though!

 

I have a friend who has a wide format printer that printed it for me. I had to use water soluble spray glue on thin cotton then added paper to get it to go through. I pulled off the paper after. If you can't find a printing service, you could look into getting rolls of printable fabric. If your printer has a spooling feature you could probably get enough length. I tried making sugar bouquet for a petite Blythe, before I had any bjds, but it didn't turn out too well because the scale was too small. I hope you get to make it eventually, a mini sugar bouquet would be adorable!

 

Shulze is my favorite MSD mold! He reminds me of a School A head almost. The wig is definitely giving Howl vibes, I think your girlfriend is onto something! Maybe he can be a part time wizard? Lol

 

That's because Schulze is a little School A! Schulze (and Maria) were the first MSD sized school heads and have been available for Volks' painting class

My sister-in-law and I were lucky enough to get to the Harajuku Angel's Window while we were in Japan, and we bought an SDM coordinate model each.

I can't lie, it is very satisfying and exciting to be able to go into a store and buy a cutie straight off the shelf.

 

Such dreamy dolls! Congratulations on acquiring an amazing souvenir and having the experience of buying a BJD same day from a store!

Ah yes you do love those older Volks if I remember correctly. Thank you for the sweet comment! Maybe I can take a photo of them all together wearing the clothes I made for them if you’d like me too. Most the clothes I made back around 2012-2015 life has been hectic so I never had a lot of time for them for so long now. Older Volks and Dimdolls are my all time favorite dolls made.

I’m stuck on the older MSDs but that’s nice to know Volks USA has opened a preorder.

 

Nice to see that there is another FCS opportunity! I was hoping to see a bit more variety in sculpts, though - everything but F-48 seems a bit of the same genre of face to me... They are all cute nevertheless, though, I hope to see some of them here if anyone is ordering :3

While it's nice to have 5 face-up styles to choose from, and head decorations, thankfully I'm not inspired to order anything this time.
