Volks Dolpa - Dolls Party in LA 2017

I haven't posted in here again in a while but I'm leaving really early tomorrow morning I'm nervous
about the long flight and taking a doll on the plane for the first time and leaving my kitties home for longer than they
have been left before (we'll be gone til the 10th). But anyway I know it will be fun to meet a bunch of you! I'm taking my lovely
Grimoire who just arrived back from his amazing face-up last week:

I'm sure it has been talked about, but I couldn't find it, I'm freaking out over the Coordinate Models... Does anyone know exactly how that is going to work??? Also there are Coordinate models, One-Offs, Dear SD...and these are all lottery dolls? Can you enter for multiple? Or??? Help...also I can't believe I'm actually going to this event, I've wanted to attend a Volks event since I was 13! I might cry.

 

RE: Tell me about it. I'm curious as to what clothes and shoes they'll be selling at Dolpa, and with all the sightseeing through the Fashion District and Little Tokyo, I'll wonder if I'll have enough for any of the One-Offs. Regardless, the event should be a fun experience.

I leave tomorrow afternoon, I regret not preparing for the costume contest, I did not know there's a contest for owners although I knew about the contest for dolls. Anyway, costumes take up a lot of luggage space, it won't be easy to carry so many things in the luggage. I'm bringing only SD17 Reisner. I have to bring home Yo-Midi Reisner. so, I need to make room for him. I will be staying in Clarion Hotel. I always worry about security when traveling with BJDs.

Oh.....My puppy is also going to the doggy hotel and camp tomorrow. I just groomed him with a spa treatment, make sure he look his best among peers during his stay at the doggy hotel.

 

From what I remember of what was shared earlier, the DearSDs and Coordinate Models are lottery dolls that anyone can enter during the Dolpa event, and you can enter for multiple dolls one time. The One-Offs are lottery dolls available for Tea Party attendees only. Most likely they will only be displayed during the tea party for party attendees, and most likely will be entry for one doll only. Congratulations for attending your first Volks event! Will you be attending theTea Party too? I remember when you used to work for Kerbey Lane; I hope this will be an amazing experience for you.

Same. I thought of dressing up myself in theme, but I'm a lot older and don't want to buy clothing that I don't want or need later. I will just be dressing in light formal wear, like you'd wear to a recital. Plus the sales event is right fore the tea party, and who wants to wear a suit all day in this heat.

 

Awesome! Okay cool! Thank you Daniel. :] Yes, in the 5 years I worked with Volks/at Kerbey Lane I was never able to attend a Volks event, but FINALLY MY TIME HAS COME! I'm seeing a lot of familiar usernames on this thread who used to buy from the store a lot. I miss corresponding with y'all! I'm in for all of it. I'm going to the Tea Party, got a Yo Cyndy coming my wayyyy. WOO!

 

Eleniel and I arrived at our hotel. Yahoo. It was such a long hot drive (115f while crossing the Mojave desert).

 

Hey, can anyone bring some Tamiya gloss and a small brush? One of the dolls we brought didn't tolerate the 115° weather.

 

This is going to be my first ever doll event! I hope I make some friends and get some cute stuff for my doll

 

Heading out to the airport soon. See everyone at Dolpa tomorrow and Saturday! We'll be staying at a nearby hotel a few blocks away for the overnights, but plan to hang out at the Marriott as much as practical otherwise. We'll have the Silver Coin dolls with us that we bought for delivery before Tea Party - nothing from home this time.

Hey guys! I'm hangin with @pris84 and we left this morning for Dolpa with a stop at Hearst Castle. Can't wait to see everyone and their dollies!

 

Just landed in Los Angeles! *Phew* Now to find out shuttle info?!? Since my hotel is in Anaheim.

 

Ahh! How exciting! Does anyone know when or where the swap meet will be held?

 

@orangediscord Last time we just gathered out in the hotel lobby a little after the tea party ended.

 

I got in to LAX just before 5:00 am on the 30th. Reached Anaheim, checked into the Marriott, and promptly crashed for a few hours. Today, I'm just hanging out in the room with Lue and Tristan, sort of unpacking and watching anime.

Mostly, I'm trying to rest my foot, and keep it elevated. Stupid foot! Of course it picked the perfect time to start acting up, right when I most needed to be up and on my feet, rushing around packing and getting all those little last minute things done!

Probably should have gone to see my Doctor about it, but wasn't going to risk having her tell me I wouldn't be able to go to LA for the Dolpa. No way am I missing this! I'll go see her about it when I get back home, if it's still acting up. Resting it does appear to be helping, it doesn't look quite as red and swollen, and doesn't seem to feel quite as hot today.

Has anyone else arrived, and checked into their hotel yet?
Anyone here at the Marriott?

 

Friday is gonna be the hottest at 107 degree per my phone forecast.
And Saturday is gonna be a bit better like...down to 99 degree....
As a Southern Californian myself, I honestly can't tell the difference between 99 and 107 since to me, they are both just HOT!

 

I'll be leaving tomorrow morning and driving down from NorCal. I'm looking forward to it but I still haven't decided who to bring! XD

I guess I can bring 2-3 and check the ones I don't take to the tea party? But that's kind of a hassle...

My Isao who's gone to every event I've been to? My Tsukasa, the finally-obtained grail doll? My F-40? My F-59? The just-arrived Link? Aghhh! And I'm picking up Yo-midi Williams and Reisner and a SDM boy body... I'll have to roll dice or something to decide! XD

We had the head wrapped up for transport, and the gloss melted a little. So the wrapping left a mark

I was just snooping around google maps to see it there were any interesting restaurants near the hotel and found that there is a The Cure tribute band playing at House of Blues (about 15 or so min. walk away) on Sat. night, also featuring a Billy Idol and a Duran Duran tribute band. I kinda, really want to go.
Anyone down to come with me?

 

Tribute bands, melted lipgloss and heatwaves, oh my! Hello lovely everyone, I fell off the world for a few months (extended tantrum over Photobucket ruining my 12 years' worth of DOA), but I'm in Anaheim now.

This Marriott is effing SWANK. And I do not want to set foot outside, I mean sweet merciful crap, this heat. I was on the shuttle with 4 people who are running a freakin marathon in this smoggy inferno (*cuckooo*). So.. I'll be resting and enjoying the air conditioning and eating dinner, then wandering out to find who else is here.

I've got Laika with me, in his tough-lookin new corset... and Kaga the little Yo-Megu, who is living with me now, representing our dear departed Kellyhime. OH! And of course Jimmy is here, so now it's a party.

 

Good to hear the Marriot is swank. I was concerned that it might me a little dated and funky. Hard to believe that Dolpa is "almost" finally arrived. So excited. Stay cool, if you can.

 

Well, the carpeting in the room is a bit weird, at least the one in my room is. From a distance, and at first glance, it looks like something all worn out and threadbare that they dug out of a dumpster somewhere. Then you look closer, and realize it's not threadbare spots at all, it's actually this sort of random lighter colored pattern! Lol, only thing is, who ever installed it did a pretty darned good job of placing all the light patterning exactly where a Capet would be likely to get the most wear and tear, like right in front of the closet, and the door to the bathroom, and where most people would tend to put their feet every morning to get out of bed, etc.

I haven't quite decided if I love it or not, but it's kind of a neat optical illusion, and definitely quite amusing.
I actually laughed out loud when I first noticed it and found myself having to look twice to make sure.

Oops, almost forgot what I wanted to ask, What time is everyone planning to get to Salon G and H tomorrow? Also has anyone run across a hotel map anywhere, that shows where all these Salons and Ballrooms are?

 

I kinda really love the faux-threadbare carpet design! Most hotel carpets are so tragic. But this place keeps revealing these odd little bits of interestingness at me. Like the buttonless pre-order elevators, and the oddly sexy floor lamp.

The industrial grade AC is my favorite thing right now though. Pleather doll outfit is safely cool. ^^

 

Yes! I love the AC, I had a look at the ten day weather forecast for LA while I was packing. Usually, LA is a few degrees cooler and a heck of a lot less humid than the Big Island, so it's usually a pleasant relief to come here for me, but this time LA is actually just as hot or hotter!

 

Oh drat, I should have checked this thread! My husband and I went there too! (Hey free dessert is free dessert). We were probably there around the same time as you and St James.

And Nell, I love love love the tribute band idea. What time does it start? Need to talk to husband about it...

Gonna bring the Tokyo Boys. Even if Ephram's faceup is a hot mess nowadays, it just isn't a Volks event without Ephram for me, and Travis is awesome.

Arrived yesterday night after a very tiring journey from Toronto Pearson. No joke, the checking in, security, delayed flight, etc etc etc....jet lag...could not sleep. Forgot my contact lense solution. Now walking to Walgreens or CVS to get a bottle. Hot outside...ah....I won't be surprised if I sleep till this evening and miss the afternoon workshop. I am at the Clarion Hotel, the place is very dated, a bit creepy but I am too tired to notice anythin. Oh...I only brought Reisner, he is in desperate need of a pair of Volks shoes. My resin boys somehow don't look right in non Volks shoes. No kidding, I often blame their outfit.

 

Good morning everyone! Anyone want to meet at Denny's for Breakfast? I'm staying at the Travelodge next door. 2060 S. Harbor Blvd. Definitely nothing to rave about in comparison to the Marriot, but it will do the trick. I'll be walking over at the Marriot later for the workshops and hopefully introduce myself before the festivities tomorrow!

 

This is so exciting to hear about everyone's trips to Anaheim and all the planning. I am so so disappointed because I am super sick right now. I am not going to make it today. I am hoping I can make it all day tomorrow. I have to at least drag myself in to pick up my Cyndy. I don't know if I can give away my teaparty seat or not. I will look into it and if I can someone is welcome to it if I am unable to make it that late.

 

@caddyvamp , so sorry to hear your are not feeling well. I had a horrible migraine yesterday and had to sleep a few hours to battle off the jet lag. I definitely want to check out the packing district before returning home.

@Nell , the coverband idea at the new house of blues sounds like an awesome idea! Sounds more practical to me then hitting the Whiskey-a-go-go in Los Angeles. Just so little time.

 

I haven't been on DoA for awhile, but I'll be there later today and tomorrow. Working a half-day, then it's home to get packed and going, I'm hoping to be there around 4pm, if not earlier. I'll be bringing my Ruby and my Sei See you all there!

I'm totally up for a swap/sale on Friday evening too! If I can sell some stuff before Saturday, maybe I can actually afford to enter for a DearSD.
I decided not to drag any big dolls with me, so I'll be walking around with my tiny pocket goddess.

Sort of the visual equivalent of a burly dude walking a Pomeranian.

 

I got to LAX early this morning (after a 7am EST flight from Indiana) and I'm so thankful the Marriott was doing early check in. Now for a nap before maybe hitting up the SD body maintenance workshop.

I'm super down for a sale/swap tonight! I need to make room in my suitcase haha.

 

I'd love to look at what's available at the swap tonight if people plan on doing one.

I'm hitting Savers Thrift store in a bit. I can't help myself. I love hunting for treasure at thrifts stores. Kind of goes with our Dolpa pirate theme.

*UPDATE* Savers is closed but I found a couple items at Anaheim Thrift Store! Not to also mention a walk to the In-N-Out Burger!

 

I don't have anything to swap or sell, but I haz cash money. Yes to swapmeet!

I honestly don't need the workshops, because I've already taken both the faceup and body classes, and don't have a DD, so... even though I know they're fun, I'll leave those workshop seats open for others. But if the sumika will be open during workshop time, I'll be there whetting my shopping appetite.

I'll check back in this thread for further swapmeet details!

I'm going to go poke around in the lower levels in a few minutes and see if I can scope out an unobtrusive spot for us to spread our wares this evening. I need to make room in my suitcase too! Damn floating heads!

 

There's a perfect spot in the center of the ballroom area ( right behind the Starbucks ) for the swap.

 

I brought lots to swap - lots of doll heart and Volks goodies.

 

I won't be there tonight, but will you guys be swapping tomorrow after the meet as well?

 

It's all very exciting We have anticipated this event for so long it's hard to believe it's really happening. I can't wait to go and hopefully meeting some DoA members in person.

The atrium of many ballrooms that @idrisfynn mentioned is a HUGE area that looks just perfect for gathering and swapping.... I'm cleaning myself up and bringing the dolls down in a few.

What exactly is the Cloak Service? There's no link with info about it, and I can't remember mention of it from the last Dolpa.
