Volks Dolpa - Dolls Party in LA 2017

As CathyM said, Steampunk Lolita does exist. It was quite popular for a bit. I'm sure a few of the big name brands did some pieces back in the day. My sister would know more though.

 

Yeah, I googled it too after CathyM posted. Lol, most of the costumes in the images I saw, appeared to me as either Classic Steampunk with a bit more fancy lace, frills and furbelows... or as typical Lolita garb with gears, goggles, and gadgets added on. I was sort of hoping for something a little more unique and creative.... like maybe lacy goggles, or clockwork Teddy Bears that turn out to be mysterious Steampunk devices.

For Dolpa Attendees who are from out of town and would like to ship their Dollfies® back home!

There is a FedEx located inside the Anaheim Marriott Hotel. They will be carrying packaging tape, bubble wrap, and other packaging materials. FedEx will also carry boxes that can fit Yo-SD, Dear SD, and SDMidi sizes.

VOLKS USA will be selling boxes that can fit DD and SD sized Dollfies®. Each box will be $3. They will be available for purchase at the Cashier in the Tenshi-no-Sumika Shop.

Hooray for shipper boxes!

 

I really hope SD17 sized shippers are also included on that list. Especially since I'm picking up R.G. Williams! I would love to bring my F16 Sdgr sunlight boy, but I would be too stressed out about his safety on and off the plane. So I'll owe him some suprise goodies when I return home to the east coast!

I'm super curious who and what the SD one-offs will be in the tea party? Perhaps a Shinku, and Michele? The Charity Sugintou is drop dead gorgeous! Seeing her in person will be very cool.

So excited! I'll be arriving on Thursday! Anyone interested in meeting up? Disneyland, Drinks? I'm up for anything! Yay, Cali! LOL!

 

I was wondering the same thing. I remember when I went some years ago one (I went for shopping only) of my favorite parts was getting to look through Gina Rolo eyes in person.

 

You are correct. Volks didn't have a dealer room at the 2015 LA Dolpa.

 

When I went years ago, there were 3rd party sellers - I can't remember the year - maybe 2010 - but the hotel it was held in was near the LA airport.

u wu I'm also hoping that by SD they also mean SD17 haha;; My current plan is to bring back my R. Williams with me in my carry on & put any purchases I might make into his box and ship that home ^^;;;

 

I think perhaps you're thinking of the BJD Convention hosted by Ms Cholong, who was the US dealer for Elfdoll. I think this was held in 2014 at a hotel near LAX.

I believe the SD shipper boxes fit the SD17 boys. I think Volks has standardized all their SD boxes (SD to SD17) a little while ago to the same size. Probably easier for Volks and made financial sense instead of having a variety of sizes of boxes. And I think they know lots of people will be picking up the SD17 Williams and will want to ship boxes home so I am sure the shipper boxes will accommodate the SD17.

@MacaronTea Sounds like you were thinking of something different. Remember in 2015 LA Dolpa, I swapped numbers in the Summika line with you so you got a better number? Volks will bring a table of 3rd party Japanese seamstress items that they normally sell in their Summikas just like last time :

Edit : Did anyone else notice that Volks took off the schedule their Meet & Greet for Friday night? That's too bad because I was really looking forward to it!

 

@MacaronTea I re-read my comment - I didn't mean to come off as a jerk! Sorry! I apologize if I did. I know you appreciated it. I just wanted to jog your memory of the event. My mind has been all over the place lately too! I don't know about you, but I am blaming that romantic glance Williams! He's very distracting! I'm looking forward to playing some of the games too! They look fun! Looking forward to seeing you at Dolpa! It's getting so close!!!

 

I can't wait to see the one offs. I hope to find some boots (SD17 and SD13). My resin boys are fussy with footwear. Many non Volks shoes/boots bought over the years had to be sold or given away because they either don't fit or look weird on my dolls. Olivia Morgan, my only girl is different from the boys, she wears any brand shoes as long as they make her look good, she's a relief to my wallet. The boys very strongly prefer Volks footwear.

I'm trying to negotiate with spouse on wearing Captain Jack, it isn't going well. Though I suppose luggage space for his hat and wig means less luggage space for doll things.

It sounds like most people are looking for small things for the swap/sell, which are much easier to bring.

I'm still debating on just who to bring. Cain, definitely. DearSD, maybe. Belldandy? I want to, but I'd want to put her in the goddess dress and it's so delicate. Help? Any requests?

The one offs are out!!!! Faints - Faints......Michele has freckles. That sunlight Cecile, sigh......I think Volks really outdid itself this time. Strange that in the end, my favorite is still the two Reisners. I love the outfits.

I think the answer depends on how Volks does the lottery entries on the day-of. Will we be able to enter drawings for more than one of the 14 one-offs? Or just our #1 top choice offering? I'd love this Shinku, but at the same time she is not the only one of the 14 options I like! If I had to pick just one, I'm not sure yet who it'd be!

Past experience suggests that it very well could be single-entry only, if they do this drawing like Japanese dolpas I went to have done. At those, only one entry form is included in the dolpa guidebook, which you fill out, clip out, and then place inside the drawing box for the doll of your choice. As you have just the one form for one-off models, you can only try for one of them.

Edit: Think hard, everyone, just in case you have to choose! (decisions.. o_O)

Dolpa Hunger Games will commence post-tea party and end by daybreak. The lone surviving doll owner who is not dead by daylight wins Shinku.

I have to weigh my life versus Shinku, but the Cyndy and Cain are also appealing.

I think Sylvie is quite pretty (wig color mix is very nice) and I love Cecile in sunlight skintone. Both Reisner's faceups are a bit dramatic for me or else I might be more tempted but Williams is pretty cool. I couldn't pass up a chance for Shinku though.

 

Hi everyone! Time has flown by so fast, can't believe the much anticipated event is coming up next weekend.
Looking forward to seeing familiar faces and making new friends.

The charity auction SD16 Suigintou is just STUNNING. A true goddess in every sense of the word. Good luck to those trying for her!

Nice amount of One-Offs this time, do appreciate the limited outfit coordinations. And that Scarface Reisner... Never thought in a million years would be tempted by this mold, fingers crossed he's not as amazingly handsome in person as in the photos, otherwise, I'm doomed.

Still haven't decided who to bring to the Tea Party, but it will be either a F-35 girl or one of the SD17 boys: Kiriko, Amethyst, or F-38.

 

Well, no worries about any competition for Shinku from me. Now if she were a boy.... That might be different.

As far as the "One-of" boys are concerned there is only one that pushes all the right buttons for me. That would be the Sunlight skin Cecile. First of all he has the sort of eyes I like, which is fairly large, and nicely shaped, with the outer corners slightly upturned.... lol, even if he's only got the one. He's also got a great expression, with a decent mouth, not too smiley, and not super puffy pouty. Plus, he's Sunlight skinned, which I really love.

So Cecile will be the one I'm going to try for, even though I really shouldn't since I've spent so much on dolls already this year... Lol, but what the heck, it is a long shot after all, and I've never won a "One-of" lottery yet.

 

If this is like the last one, it will be single entry. I believe the only thing that wasn't single entry was the special doll, but I could be incorrect.

 

Williams and Sylvie are both poking me, argh.

 

The one-off models look amazing! Great job Volks! I was guessing or more like wishful thinking that there would be a Shinku and Michele! I'll have to really think about my one entry though.

 

@Nell One total entry makes sense, yeah. I was originally hoping that the One Entry Form might contain a checklist so you could apply for one-off Doll A, Doll B, and Doll E all at the same time in hopes of maybe getting one of them, but of course that would be a harder system to implement with paper forms. Volks' schedule says the winners drawing is to be held only 15 minutes after the close of the entry window, so yeah that wouldn't be enough time to reconcile checklists. Probably will be one box per doll then. Darn.

On the upside ideally each one-off would then go to a person who thought it was the best one out of all 14 contenders.

I'm liking sunlight Cecile, Shinku, and Sylvie the most thus far from the pictures. Looking forward to seeing them in person to help decide who to ultimately try for.

 

Shinku is super cute! Sylvie looks great too, but that pale Cain boy and Williams are my weaknesses this round...

@InvisibleWings you know if P comes as Jack, he's gonna win the Best Dressed contest, no doubt. I wonder what the prize is for that?

The Jack costume is in the suitcase! I think he's going to carry my Belle in the Captain Sylvie costume with him. Me, I'm bringing Var (Reisner) in the Lady Reisner dress. Now I just have to find an outfit to wear....

I think due to luggage space the main things I'm bringing are smalls.

 

Another reason for being able to enter for only a single one of the "One-of" models, is to avoid the possibility of the same person winning more than one "One-of" doll.

Even though you'd think the odds of that happening would be like a million to one, it has happened, not with Volks I don't think, but with other prize lotteries and drawings. I've seen people win two or even three or more prizes in the same drawing. Lol, fate apparently has a wicked sense of humor, tempt her and you're asking for trouble.

Imagine the potential uproar there might be if the same person were to win say three "One-of" models at a single Dolpa!

Shinku and Chloe....I love the costumes they've chosen for everyone this time around! Absolutely gorgeous. So thrilled they even brought Shinku back?!

Things are looking exciting~ I am digging the theme...
Its been a LONG time since I've been to an event and the last Dolpa I went to (in Osaka) has now reached the double digits. Going with out too much expectation and just gonna let it all wash over me. Excited meet people and see what everyone brought. Pretty sure my wallet will be weeping come the end of it all.
Now just to finish furiously sewing! (and pack. and pick out what to wear for the tea. and what my little one will wear....opps!)

 

Was there just the generic confirmation number or was there a full ticket issued that needs to be printed out? Any idea what the email was named if there was?

 

No ticket needs to be printed it out. It was mostly a generic email with instructions to bring a photo ID for the Tea Party entry and a few details on the days events. This was the title of the email I received, 【VOLKS USA】Event Information of Dolls Party in LA 2017 Tea Party.

 

Thank you, I was concerned I had misplaced some ticket for a bit there.

 

I leave tomorrow evening, and I'm still trying to finish packing!

Lol, doesn't help that I've got seven little four legged monsters who keep trying to 'help' me by jumping up on the bed and walking across my suitcase to come see me, then they turn around and hop back in my suitcase, and try to 'helpfully' fluff up the clothes I just carefully packed in it! I think they think it's some new kind of dog bed! ^_~

I need to especially keep my eye on the youngest one, he loves to steal little things like doll wigs, doll shoes, pens, etc. to play with and/or chew up! He even occasionally steals not-so-little things, to chew up too, like MY shoes!

I've still got to get all their stuff ready too, and fill out their forms for 'doggy camp'..... and the 'camp' director is coming at 10:00 am tomorrow to pick them up! :-D
