Volks Dolpa - Dolls Party in LA 2017

Oct 10, 2016

    1. Yeah, like the secret location of my money tree!!

      • x 4
    2. Yes, yes ... @St. James that is a problem that troubles us all. I'm convinced one of my Dollshe boys have hidden mine. :sweat

Looks like the shop for LA Dolpa is up :

Dolls Party in LA 2017 | VOLKS USA,Inc.

DearSD is lottery. And geez! $20 a game for the cap gun! Whoa! A little pricey! :ablink:

    3. @St. James :lol::lol::lol:

I'm really glad that Volks seems to be making an effort to offer a wider array of resin colors in the U.S. Yori is not my favorite mold so I don't think I'm going to try for Vanessa, but I'm really, really glad to see her, and I hope some more sunlight / ebony / shadow DearSDs are offered in the next online DearSD lottery! Ebony DearSD F-67 would be my ultimate dream. So cute with her little pout! :D

I'm very excited for outfit shopping. Someone else mentioned the option hands, I hope they bring some of the new SDGr girl hands! And I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone's adorable dolls! :D :D :D

    4. Oh my goodness, they have so many beautiful dolls up for the lottery!! Two F-39's? An Minie Dollfie Dream Arle? I love those girls.

I'm so jealous. I hope that those attending will take LOTS of photos for all us poor souls who can't go :D

    5. @snowgray Vanessa is a F-45 and not Yori (F-23). Someone asked on FB and Volks replied with the FCS numbers. :)

I'm wondering if we are going to see any Btssb outfits seeing as the DearSD have made their way to Dolpa?

    6. Hello The Beautiful Doll I remember you, I bought a suit from you several years back. I tried to make Reisner wear the suit but he looks weird. I won't be bringing the suit. My Reisner might go naked, I agonize over his wardrobe for the dolpa.

It would be great to meet you in person, wear a name tag with your DOA name. I will bring my name tag.

I am really excited over the dolpa.....getting close.

    7. I'm totally screaming internally about MDD Arle. Is it funny that I hope to see some drawing wins from some DoA peeps? Haha, have fun, you guys!

    8. I just saw Vanessa. I want her so much.

edit: I wrote the wrong name... I'm rushing today already.

    9. Vanessa is gorgeous, I definitely don't need another doll, but I will be super tempted to enter her lottery once I see her in person!

    10. Sasara Kusugawa??? Oh no......Both my boys Isao and Christian (F38) are crazy over her. They are shell shocked and angry that Reisner Yo-Midi is coming to join them instead of Sasara DDdy.....If I had known about this earlier......sigh....what is not to be is not to be......anyway, the 2 boys would fight till death for Sasara if she came home....just comforting myself....

    11. Looks like we have a small update on the VolksUSA Dolpa site. They've updated the Shop and the Workshop section. Looks like this time they are bringing the Btssb outfits to buy!

Shirring Baby Doll Jumper Skirt Set (Black) and the Millefeuille Jumper Skirt Set (pink) ones as well as the rabbit bag but not the cream one. And looks like there will be the opportunity to get some Silver Oath character goods.

And it looks like Volks is bringing the gacha machines for DD items like shirts and outfits.

    12. hahahaha! Better be careful they don't slip your name in for her drawing!!

    13. Yessss!:D I need these 2 dresses! This is so awesome. :cheerHope I get a better place in the entry line this time.
      Getting so hyped for Dolpa.

    14. I don't even have a DearSD but I need those sets!
They'd be fabulously funny on my Kei...

      • x 1
    15. I own both those BtSSB sets, but now that I have two DSD I need new sets so they can match! Also, those Oath of Silver Coin books are a must!

And hopinghopinghoping for a DSD Tiffany so I can turn her into a Gr lovely (and then maybe turn my Saki into a DSD).

    16. Do you remember how much you paid for the sets? Trying to gauge how broke I plan on being after that weekend. ;)

    17. @positivespace the pink one I bought secondhand off Yahoo!Japan. The black one I bought at Tenshi-no-Mado last October. You have to buy the sets that have the shirts with them as well if you want the full outfit. I bought one black set, one white shirt/bloomers set, and two usakuma bags and I think I spent around $200, give or take.

      • x 2
    18. @positivespace The retail prices on the Btssb pink and black outfits were 16,000 yen + tax (each), the white shirt/bloomer sets were 4,400 yen + tax and rabbit bag was 4,500 yen + tax. I would expect the US price to be around $150 USD and $50 USD? Depends I guess on what sort of exchange they offer. I usually find prices higher when they come to the US.

      • x 1
    19. Ah,yes, I only paid for the dress and the shirt set at once, the usamimi I had enough cash for so I didn't put them on the Visa. That explains my math @pris84, thanks!

    20. @InvisibleWings I have to look at packing to remember prices! haha I'm guessing they'll probably be around $150 for the dresses and $50 for the blouse. Probably $50 for the rabbit bag. But I guess we'll see!

I hope they bring lots of the outfits for everyone so that even people at the back of the line get a chance to get some good stuff. I know last time, they brought the dress boxes and they sold out so fast! It's too bad there aren't hand parts this year. But maybe they'll keep adding some items as we get closer?

    21. I'm hoping hoping hoping for hands. Whiteskin Gr boy hands, esp. My Cain didn't come with his form so I couldn't order extras.

    22. Are there any others that didn't get tea party but plan to go anyway? It would be my first time going, so I'm not sure what to expect. I would like to do some shopping and just meet new people.

    23. @Royalrosalie I think you'll find that there is going to be a lot of people, regardless if they got into the Tea Party or not. There will people hanging out in the lobby on Friday and Saturday, between the workshops and all day Saturday. The Tea Party (which is fun) is really only from 3-7 pm so as soon as the Tea Party is over, people will be back taking over the lobby with their dolls. Or that's what happened last time. And on Saturday night, we had a very informal swap and sale which was just another excuse to see and talk dolls. Hope you can make it! :)

Mods, would it be okay (or a good idea) if we started a LA Dolpa 2017 Swap/Sale thread, something like the Dollheart Fubukuro ones so that people could plan what to bring to swap/sale or what they are looking for?

      • x 2
    24. A swap/sale thread would be awesome, good thinking @pris84! I have some larger things I'd like to sell but only want to bring them if someone is going to buy them!

      • x 2
    25. @positivespace @pris84 Swap threads for in-person meet-ups don't exist on DoA.

We can say we are having a swap at a set time, we can generically say "I am bringing some mini size doll clothing" but it's up to each person to bring things or not.
You can't get into specifics of what exactly what you are bringing, nor request specific things, ie "I am bringing the Volks limited set Blahdy Blah and I am looking for a Switch So and So wig."

Any chat about it stays in this thread~

      • x 1
    26. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before, but for those of you (like me) who are wondering how the heck they'll get doll boxes home (the SD17 box is 1in too long for my suitcase.... sob) the Marriott has an on-site FedEx with shipping services that is open during the weekend and Sunday. :) I was very happy to see that!

Now that we're closing in to Dolpa time I've been dreaming about what One-Offs Volks will bring.

I'm crossing my fingers and toes for a lovely SDGr Amakusa, but I'd also love to see an SDGr Kohya, SDGr Hasekura, or an SD17 Williams (because I can't get enough).

      What are everyone's One-Off hopes?

      • x 1
    27. That's convenient! I'd be curious to know if they will have enough boxes for shipping in a satellite location. I know a place that's about 6 miles directly east on Katella; it's a box store that ships.

One-offs....oh my. Up until I got my Cain recently I was wanting there to be a Cain in the one-offs. Who don't I have that I'd dearly love? I'd love an SDM Mamu one-off (or if they have any of the Mamu available for limited entry). I am always on board for a Shinku (so I can lose again!) or a Gr Charlotte. But in keeping with the Oath of Silver Coin theme, how about a Gr Lady Sylvie or a Gr Cyndy? Or a one-off Lady Reisner?

      • x 1
    28. Thanks for the clarification @idrisfynn!

I'll have MSD-sized clothing and shoes for the swap after the tea party (it'll be after the tea party, right?), but I'll hold off on bringing down the MSD-sized furniture since it's so bulky.

      • x 1
    29. Thanks very much @idrisfynn !! This is why I ask before I do! :cake:

    30. We had originally discussed having the swap meet on Saturday night, is that no longer the case? There will certainly be more people around then.

    31. @St. James As far as I know it's Saturday night but I'm half expecting to find people and dolls taking over the lobby on Friday too. Maybe some people will be going home on Saturday night? I think the swap on Saturday worked out last time pretty well.

@KeiCai_Ayan A FedEX in the hotel is welcome news to some people I'm sure! Volks might bring shipper boxes that people can buy? Might be worth an email to them.

As to one offs ... my guess is they will all be dressed as Oath of Silver Coin. Last time it was an Alice theme and all the one offs were in Alice attire. @InvisibleWings I'm with you ... Shiniku please so that yes, I too can lose again! haha But yes, Resisner, Williams, Cyndy, Lady Sylvie and maybe the YoMidi's for one offs. I bet the boys will be in dresses and the girls will be dressed in clothing that they liberated from Reisner and Cecil's closets ... My guess is that we will get about 6 one offs (like last time) but I'm really hoping for more because that means more people can go home with hopefully a dream doll. :)

    32. They did say that the theme for the One-off dolls was the same as the Cruise (Oath if Silver Coin Masquerade) so I expect SD17s in dresses again.

    33. I am officially dead. DEAD.

    34. I was wondering if she was going to be the Charity Auction doll. Ciera did a lovely job on her! :love

    35. i apologize if this has already been answered, i admit i only skimmed the past pages. I've never been to a Dolpa and this would be my first time attending. Is this event free aside from the tea party? From what i can see from the website it looks like the workshops and beauty shop is free but i am not sure how this works and i would hate to arrive and not have a ticket. I am hoping to take one of my boys to the beauty salon as his faceup was slightly damaged in a fall during an earthquake. I am too afraid to do anything with it in fear it will damage him further.

    36. @Shirayuki Yes. Everything but the Tea Party is free to attend and no reservation required. Sorry to hear about the damaged face up! The Dolly Doctor does charge a fee for most services and has a limited service menu. They don't repair face ups at the dolly doctor. Only restringing, KIPS replacement, tension adjustments, etc ... If you need his face up repaired, you'll probably have to commission someone to do it or redo the face up. If it's a Volks face up, you could email Volks and see if they would redo the face up? Good luck!

    37. Ooooh, And dress by Klesis too! She's beautiful. I always love the detailed manicures on the charity dolls, so lovely.

    38. @pris84 great! guess i'll definitely be attending :) but im a little disappointed i wont be able to get him fixed. It isnt severe damage or anything but its a rub i'll probably bring him anyway i only have two volks to bring, him and his brother are both YoSDs. I'm excited to see all the dolls :) and hopefully meet some friends

    39. What I find interesting (and good on Volks!) is that the bidding for her is going to be in the main Dolpa area and not just the Tea Party so everyone can make a bid! I'm curious if we will have Japanese collectors come over and bid on her.

And FYI, her WS twin sister was auctioned off at Dolpa 36 (Christmas) and went for 3,120,000 yen.
      VOLKS ONE FOR ALL ~それはみんなのために~ | ドールズ・パーティー36 ドルパ36 in ジョイフェス4|株式会社ボークス

@Shirayuki Great! Hope you have a great time! See you there! :)

    40. She looks lovely. But thank goodness I'm not a big Suigintou fan.

    41. That charity doll is lovely.

As far as one-offs go, how about that SD17 Tsukasa they've been tormenting us with for years now? XD Actually no I want that as a general release more people need to be able to have Tsukapyons. *cuddles Travis*

I'm pondering trying to re-create my Tsukasa outfit from years ago for the tea party. Off-theme, but... XD And this time I have a Tsukasa with his original outfit to match me! I'll probably not do it because of lack of time, but it'd be fun. X3

Actually. A Link one-off. I'm so sad they discontinued his headmold. I miss mine. ;~; A nice subtle white-skinned F-24... *sigh*

    42. If Volks continues this trend of releasing darker skinned girls (I see you Dear SD Vanessa) my wallet will seriously be in trouble. I LOVE this charity doll design, and while I know I won't be able to afford her, I'm so happy they went in this direction!

    43. Well, now that my hotel and airline reservations are made, I can definitely say I'm going to be attending the LA Dolpa and Tea Party! ^_^ Lol, I wasn't originally planning on attending, since at first it looked like it was only going to be a one day event and half of it would be admission by lottery.

Flying in from Hawaii is kind of a long and expensive trip for just a maybe one day, maybe half day event. ^_~ Of course, when it got closer to the Dolpa date, Volks finally released more info, and I started thinking "Aww shoot! I should have known there would be more to it than just the tea party and maybe some limited items for sale., but I figured that the lottery deadline had already passed, that the hotel was full, and it was too late.

Then the email arrived announcing the tea party lottery was now open, and I figured "Oh, what the heck, it can't hurt to enter, even though I probably won't win."..... except I did win! Hooray!

I see a lot of new faces here on DoA.... lol, I guess it has been awhile since I was last on here. ^_^ "Hello Everyone!" I'm looking forward to meeting all of you, and hopefully matching some usernames to the actual person rather than their avatar. ^_~

So, about this masquerade, I've been checking the info site, but I haven't really found too much information. Are there some rules posted somewhere that I've missed? Such as, does the costume have to be homemade, or can it consist of pre-made clothing that you purchased, or can it be a commissioned outfit that you had made by a 'professional' seamstress? ^_^

Also, just exactly what is the theme of this masquerade? Is it modern cruise ship, classic piratical, old time golden age nautical exploration, steampunk piratical....? Does anyone have any clues they could share, please? ....or even best guesses? ^_~ Because quite frankly, I'm totally stumped! So I'd really appreciate any help about the theme. ^_^

I'll be bringing my MSD/SDC Kohaku, Lue, and even if I don't enter him in the masquerade, I would like to have him at least somewhat dressed in keeping with the masquerade theme for the tea party. Lol, if I can't give him a definite costume theme, who knows what he's apt to decide to wear! ;D

    44. @JRyu The theme is "Oath of the Silver Coin and Steampunk", so I'm assuming it is basically steampunk pirates (or steampunk and/or pirates).

    45. Thanks eleniel! ^_^
I thought I'd read something about steampunk, but then couldn't find it of course, when I went back and re-read the info about the masquerade.

Lol, I think we'll try for something nautically-ish, swashbucklely, steampunk. Not sure we will actually enter the contest, I'm still trying to puzzle out the contest rules on the email that I just received from Volks.

This is the bit I'm wondering about:
"*As long as your SDs and DDs are following the theme, they can be entered with their default VOLKS make-up or custom make-up. (Dollfie® entries with no make-up, sanding, and putty will not be accepted.)"

Not sure exactly what they mean by the "entries with no make-up, sanding, and putty will not be accepted". The no make-up part I get, but the sanding and putty bit is what concerns me. I'm interpreting it to mean that Volks does not want a doll to be entered in the contest if it has had any permanent modifications done, and Lue has had his ears modded to be pointed.... like a proper demon's. ^_~

    46. The one doll limit for the tea party has me so stressed out now lol. Who do I bring?!?! Should I bring multiples for the next previous day and see if I can check them? Just bring one period? But whoooo? Ahhh!

    47. Yup me too. *Died*

    48. I know, Ian-KunX, granted it was several years ago, but I remember several people having two, maybe even three, dolls at the tea party that was held during that last big two or three day Doll's Party in L.A.. Most of the larger dolls, the SDs and the MSDs sat quite comfortably around the floral centerpieces that were in the middle of each of the tables. The YoSDs, and the one or two Sei Tenshi that attended, I believe either sat with their bigger 'siblings' in the middle of each table, or hung out in their owner's pockets, purses, or carriers. ^_^

There were also a few people with three or more dolls during the period that was set up for getting acquainted, photographing dolls, shopping, etc..

I imagine those who had multiple dolls out earlier, probably just secured the extra ones away in their hotel room when it was time for the tea party. I've left Lue and other dolls in my hotel room, usually packed in his carrier and locked in my suitcase when I'm going to be gone all day. For short periods, I will stash him in the bottom drawer, usually in his carrier and under some clothes. Of course when I do that, I also leave the tv on just loud enough to be heard through the door, and I hang out the "do not disturb" sign as well. ^_~

That one doll limit at the tea party, for me anyway, is another reason to not enter Lue in the contest. I'm bringing Lue along to hang out with me and enjoy the party, not be stuck on a stand displayed somewhere. ;D Lol, having to lug a doll stand with me to California is yet another reason to skip the contest, I'm afraid. I have a feeling I'm going to need as much extra room as I can manage in my suitcases for potential purchases. ^_^

Lol, I am so not looking forward to arguing with Lue about all the unnecessary junk that he always insists he needs to bring! Not to mention all the clothes! Lol, that boy packs enough clothes for a weekend trip, to last him for a six month stay! ;D

Maybe someone could call and ask Volks if it's okay for the people who are going to have a doll displayed for the costume contest, to bring a second doll that they can hold and carry around during the tea party?

    49. I can't wait to hop on the plane. I'm so tired working. I plan to sleep late Friday morning, enjoy a late breakfast in the hotel alone with Reisner. Get back to sleep or go for a massage before attending the workshops at 3pm. I have agonized and resolved my wardrobe and Reisner's wardrobe. My dolls' wardrobe is primarily Sadol and Volks so its no surprise how Reisner will be dressed.

I am deeply troubled by Sasara Kusugawa DDdy being offered at this dolpa. Isao and Christian (F38) will not come with me because they will force me to bring home Sasara. As far as they are concerned, Sasara is THE Goddess. I already spent the budget of Yo-Midi Reisner......oh Sasara................what am I to do?????? I might as well be dead also![IMG]

    50. I'm re-reading the tea party event info email I got the other day and just now realizing that in addition to the doll dress up contest there is a separate owner dress up contest. I think I will definitely have to try to find a way to fit my pirate garb into my luggage now. Is anyone else dressing up for the tea party?

I won't be entering my doll but plan to have her in 'Alice and the Pirates' all weekend, in keeping with the theme.

    51. Fortunately for me, the Dollfie Dreams being offered are all girls, so currently they aren't even a temptation. Although if Volks ever releases a DD boy's body that's available for unlimited purchase from their U.S. Webshop, I'm in big trouble! So... No, TOO many wonderful DD girl faces that would make absolutely beautiful boy DDs. ^_~

I think I'm fairly safe this Dolpa, unless there's a boy or two in the One Of Models. Even then, knowing my luck with Dolpa One Ofs lottery drawings, I'll still be safe..... drooling and disappointed, but safe. ;D
Although, I may enter the DSD lottery for Vanessa....she'd make such an adorable little boy. ^_^

I'm just hoping for some nice MSD/SDC boy's outfits that don't look like they are meant for four or five year olds. More MSD/SDC size Japanese style clothing for boys would be wonderful too!

    52. Aaaa, I'm super excited~ I'm only able to attend one day so I'm bringing my MDD because she's the smallest (and lightest) Volks doll I have.. Hopefully I'll stick to my plan of buying more MSD sized clothes, but judging from the list there will be a lot of temptations. I'm going to enter the lottery for Takane, she's one of the girls on the top of my wishlist haha:chibi I wonder if there will only be one of each doll or multiple available...

I asked Volks about when we can pick up pre-ordered dolls. They said that pick up starts at Salon 4/ the Cloak Room from 10am till 4pm, which is when the doors to the Tea Party closes. ( The email also mentions that if you have too many things to carry, you can ask a staff about picking up your doll later on. )

    53. I was wondering if the one doll limit was for how many we can enter into the competition not necessarily meaning you can't bring more than one through the door into the tea party. I am going to find out.

    54. @Nell Nope. I'm not dressing up. If I had something I would but sadly, I don't have anything that fits the theme. But I'm sure there will be a number of people dressed up especially in some Lolita wear!

@Ayuuya I think there will be only one each of the limited DD but multiples on the DearSD. Or I think that's what I read over on FB. And also from LA Dolpa 2015, any of the limited dolls for lottery were one of each. Good luck with trying for Takane!

I can't believe how close Dolpa is now! I fly out on the 23rd because I'll be doing some visiting with friends before Dolpa but I feel like the last few weeks has really crept up on me! *_*:ablink:

    55. The days sure have rushed past! Seems like it was only yesterday when I looked at the calendar and had like over a month and a half! Now it's like I only have roughly a week left to get everything done!

Lol, I really need to get it in gear! I'm so behind in the laundry, I've got to get some clothes washed so I have something to pack in the suitcase! Otherwise it will just be Lue's clothes and and all his "very important" and "extremely necessary" junk that he insists on bringing. 9_9

On the other hand, not having any of my clothes to pack would sure leave me with lots of extra room in my suitcase to bring stuff back. ^_~ Hmm...nope....bad, tempting, train of thought there.... Must. Get. Clothes. Washed! At least enough for L.A.. ;D

Of course, be it fur-kids or the human kind, it never seems to fail that something will come up with at least one of them right before you are due to leave for some special event or trip.... So, I know it's a bit OT, but please could all of you think positive thoughts and good wishes on the August 24th, for my smallest fur-kid, Peewee? He will be going in for surgery that day to have a small growth/tumor removed off of his tummy. Peewee is the smallest in size, not age, although he is still pretty young too, so putting him under the anesthesia is a bit more risky than it normally is for dogs. There is always some risk involved with pets and anesthesia anyway, but for tiny dogs the risk is even bigger. Also, the vet is going to send the tumor off to be biopsied, so everyone please keep your fingers crossed that biopsy results come back with good news! Thanks!

    56. I definitely hope to see some Lolitas in attendance! I used to dress in the fashion occasionally but quit a few years ago. Now only my doll wears it :XD:

    57. I wonder, is there now actually a subcategory, or a style of Lolita, called Steampunk Lolita? Does anyone know? I think it would be interesting to see how people would merge the elements of the two styles.

    58. I checked Google, and I actually found some photos of steampunk lolita

    59. Finally Found this thread.

As always my plan did not work so nothing prepared for the pirate boys.... I think I will bring one doll for Friday and a different doll for Saturday...... Debating debating debating.... SD13 is lighter than SD17 but William is asking to come as this is his event.

I plan to bring some of my YoSD who is looking for new home with me for the swap meet.....
