Volks Dolpa - Dolls Party in LA 2017

I hope so too. I'd really like some SD-17 hands. Those are also ones that Volks normally only lets you buy with the order forms.

I'm really looking forward to this. I've been to some of the Japanese Dolpas, but never one of the US Dolpas.

 

I hope they bring more hands too. And replacement ball joints. I was so glad to get those last time (I gave a bunch away, so I need more).

Wow, that's pretty crazy, having to wait so long. But maybe they've opened up more spots OR some people have contacted them to say they aren't going. Whatever it is--great news, @Nell !!!

I hope more people receive invitations. I don't think I noticed too many that hadn't got one, though. It seems Volks tried to accommodate as many people as possible...

Hey everyone! I got an invite to the tea party so I'm definitely going to Dolpa again this year. Going to the last one and seeing a few people's Williams is what made me finally try for my own after pining for him for 10 years.

I can't wait to see all the different dolls people bring again.

I wanted to join in here because I am so excited about going and thought maybe I could meet some people before hand as I don't know anyone. I got in and was able to get a YoMidi Cyndi. I live in Riverside which is not too far from Anaheim so will drive in each day. I already have a Williams I am planning on bringing with me.

Do our dolls need to wear Volks cloths and shoes also?

 

That's awesome @caddyvamp ! and no, Volks only clothing and shoes aren't required. Congrats on your Cyndi. Do you have a name picked out already, or will you keep it as Cyndi?

caddyvamp I am also excited to be going. I live in Ontario Canada, far away, got to fly. I also don't know anyone, I don't get to meet Volks fans. This is my first time at an all Volks doll event. I have Reisner, I was able to get YoMidi Reisner, it would be very good if we can meet with your Williams and YoMidi Cyndi. I too am wondering if the dolls need to wear Volks only outfit. My Reisner does not have a lot of outfit, he's very much still in his original outfit although I can easily put together some simple casual outfit for him.

My Reisner looks very weird (out of character) when dressed formally or elaborately, he's a simple dresser. I am getting worried about the outfit, if everyone else is dressing up formally, he would have to dress like wise for the cameras.

 

You don't have to dress your dolls in Volks outfits. I only had one in Volks clothing at the Dolpa in 2015. The rest wore non-Volks clothing.

 

And when they hold costume contests, they couldn't expect any of them to wear Volks clothes (well, depending on the theme, I guess). So don't worry about the clothes! As everyone has said, it's just the dolls themselves--those they would prefer would be all Volks.

As for not knowing folks... everyone is pretty friendly and we all have dolls in common, so don't be afraid to talk to others about their dolls or ask a question or introduce yourself. It's sort of like just going to a meetup... just all Volks, and a bit more formalized and structured.

 

Sure @stargazer_i ! We can meet up to get started. Congrats on your YoMidi Reisner. He looks like a cutie. I thought about getting him - he is my favorite of the boys. I had to get Cyndi though because she captured my attention the minute I saw her. Looks like our dolls can wear what ever they want!!

 

It might take a LED powered sign! I've tried some sort of badge or button before, but they are still hard to see. And someone made a cool badge template for one event--the last Dolpa??? --which made things a bit more recognizable-- BUT people still forgot to print them out and wear them!

 

At the very least we should throw down for some "Hello, my name is" stickers for everyone who doesn't manage a custom label.
@caddyvamp @stargazer_i Seconding that it will be great to put faces to names!

I think I've settled on just bringing my Sei-Tenshi since we'll be traveling a bit after Dolpa and hauling away an SD17 box is enough already! She's tiny and she can't stand up anyway, so I think I'll just dress her as a mermaid.

I have a name badge, but I think I need to make it double-sided. Somehow, it always gets flipped so the blank side is showing.

You actually printed out one of those name badges for me last year. I was one of those who had totally forgotten to do that...
Is that file still around somewhere? (I'm not sure I can find the one you made for me... I put it somewhere SPECIAL, which means that I might not be able to find it again...)

Hi everyone, thanks for the responses. I will make a name tag for myself. Conference organizers usually provide them. On the name tag, I will put my DOA ID instead of real name. Name tags are useful. I remembered in the IDEX doll convention in Florida, I wished people had name tags with their DOA names on it.

Hihi, I started dressing up my Reisner in formal clothes belonging to my other dolls, he hates it. He screams...."Take this off me!!!! Don't you dare enter me for any contest in this!!! Let Christian (F38) face the cameras in this silly outfit." My Reisner is informal, relaxed, chill-out, easy going type.

 

I'm all for creating a DOA name tag for myself to wear to the Dolpa. I probably should include my avatar picture as well. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and their resin companions!

 

I'll be attending as well with my husband! I'm hoping to have a lot of fun and take lots of pictures of beautiful dolls. I want lots of new clothes for my girls. Not sure who to bring with me just yet.

 

I think I might turn my old DOA T-shirt into a bag and put my screen name on it. It's from the first run of DOA shirts ever and it's now too small for anything else. It can be my shopping bag for the Dolpa!

I booked my hotel today and there was a countdown saying my reservation is in 42 days. Dolpa is in 43 days! Holy dolls! There's so little time left.

Here I was thinking I'd get a few things to bring for my new Williams to wear besides his default outfit when I get him. There's no time left to order any goodies. Poor Prince Buttercup, my one-off Michele, is sitting around naked waiting for me to make him an outfit for the Masquerade.

 

I can't believe how close Dolpa is either! I was hoping by now that we'd have a bit more information up but alas no. Maybe beginning of August? Or not. And after struggling waaaaaay too long with that kimono they released at Christmas, I wish Volks would offer a kimono dressing workshop. Ugh.

I'm leaning towards bringing my sunlight F-42 as she was one of the last FCS done at the LA Store before they moved. Plus, I was thinking if I could get her a bathing suit, then she could lounge by the pool and work on her tan.

 

I tried to order a last minute item from Iplehouse for Reisner to wear during the dolpa but my US credit card was rejected again and again. It looks like that last minute shopping is not to be. My dolls' wardrobe is predominantly Volks and Sadol.

My mom who is suppose to be travelling with me suddenly decided not to come with me. She suggests that I take the F38 with me along with Reisner. If I enter for costume contest, I should enter 2 dolls and not just 1 because they compliment each other. I am reluctant to bring the F38. Unlike Reisner, Christian is highly competitive, if he enters a contest, he must win. Very stressful having him around. Reisner is carefree, easy going, he care less about contests, he can go naked and don't care.

 

@stargazer_i Last time, I believe people were only allowed to bring one doll into the Tea Party. So if you choose to enter the costume contest, your one doll that comes into the Tea Party will have to be your contest entry. Or that's what it was last time. Space was limited and I guess they didn't want people bringing multiple dolls into the Tea Party were space is limited.

 

I though there were people who had contest entries on the table the whole time and could still have a doll at the table with them during the tea. I'd have to double check my pictures but I'm sure there were a few people who hat two doll each with them while they sat.

 

Pris84 and Senko : Bwah haha,,,,,so 1 doll (contest entry) per person attending the tea party. Now, my mom commented that if both she and I attended the tea party, she can enter 1 doll and I enter another, so we still can have 2 dolls at the contest. Anyway, she's not coming, this is just an "If" comment. I am already enjoying myself learning all the rules of the dolpa. I am not in the mood for contest. Reisner and I would like to relax and enjoy the dolpa - sleep, eat, shop, meet people and dolls. I am excited to welcome the Yo-Midi Reisner.

 

I'm sure some people brought multiple dolls. I never noticed myself if people brought more than one or not. And as I didn't see a Volks bouncer at the door, I'm sure no one was turned away for bringing more than one. Maybe if you were pulling a wagon or pushing a baby carriage with multiple dolls they may have said something. I just remember it listed on the page last time and it was probably more for consideration to others rather than a strict rule. Last dolpa was a total blur so yes, I guess that's why we take pictures - to remember what the heck happened.

@stargazer_i I wouldn't put a lot of effort into any sort of rules until just before Dolpa as things always seem to change. I feel like the VolksUSA website will probably get updated in the next couple of weeks or well, I'm hoping. It's a new venue so maybe they won't have a restriction on how many dolls to bring to the tea party? *shrug* I guess we'll see. I'm not very ambitious this time around for the costume contest either and even the decision of who to bring is going to be very last minute. Congratulations on bringing home a Yo-Midi Reisner.

 

I saw some updates today from San Diego Comic-Con about what Volks is bringing to the Dolpa. There are two new Dear SDs, Vanessa and Tiffany, which are actually of FCS sculpts F45 and F73. One appears to be sunlight skin. VOLKS USA, Inc.

Excitement!

Also, my Buttercup is naked still and I'm lost as how to dress him for this. The problem grows.

 

@FunnyLori I saw that too! Someone in another Volks thread pointed it out. But I think it's ebony or shadow skin. Looks too dark for sunlight but yes! Pretty exciting!

 

I can't believe I missed this thread haha..... I didn't make it into the Tea Party but I got in as a guest with a friend of mine that did actually get in. So excited for this event and to see everyone, I haven't been to a Volks doll event since the days of the NYC Tea Parties

Soooo....I emailed Volks about the new DearSD dolls. Their answer:

Dear Cathy,

Thank you so much for taking the time to contact Volks USA!

The Dear SD dolls will be available for everyone for purchase – it will not be limited to only the Tea Party guests. The Dolls Party in LA 3 will be part of their grand debut!

Details on how to purchase the precious Dear SD’s will be released at a later date, so please keep an eye on our Newsletter and our Facebook page for the official announcement!
